Verano Porteño

One of the most beautiful jasmine perfumes I have ever smelled. I wore it day after day, then week after week, and I finally had to spring for a full bottle. There is quite a lot of citrus, to the point where I was surprised I liked it. I never wear citrus perfumes. I wondered what made this one so different that I would reach for it daily. It was probably after my 6th or 7th wear that I noticed a heart of the freshest jasmine. The citrus and jasmine are amazing in this perfume. Together they are blindingly bright, sunny yellow, clean and fresh. I was so glad I brought my decant with me for a month in Napa—in June’s dry, blazing 100 F heat. By the time I returned home, I had a full bottle on my doorstep. I have barely put it down all summer. Lasts several hours with light sillage, even in the heat. Truly mesmerizing!

This is such an elegant, beautiful fragrance! I love the juice, the bottle, the concept, the house of Frassai and Natalia the owner. I mainly get white flowers (jasmine being the dominant note followed by magnolia), citron (gives a slightly tart lemon note) and some green, 'tea-like' notes which I assume comes from the yerba mate and vetiver. Although I bought this for summer, I think for Australia's intense, humid summer heat (average 32 degress celsius +) I might save this one for spring or drier summer days. Personally, I find jasmine fragrances to be too heady in humid summer heat - due to the indoles, they can sometimes smell a little poopy on me. I also bought this on the Frassai website and it arrive from the USA to Australia in less than a week, which is impressive!

The initial citrus notes are as fresh as fruit being squeezed before your eyes. While the sharp opening of jasmine may surprise, as your body temperature rises, other notes emerge, transitioning into a gentle floral composition. The ambrette in the base presents itself exactly as one would hope — a textbook demonstration of excellence. Beyond the perfumer’s evident skill, the quality of raw materials must surely be exceptional. The refinement of each note suggests this is no ordinary fragrance. Though it’s premature to draw conclusions with eight fragrances still to explore, I’m already envisioning a bottle of this creation. This promises to be the beginning of a remarkable journey.

A happy fragrance. A beautiful blue sky, the scent of fresh lemons swirls through the cobblestone streets, a light breeze sparks the white flowers, youth, dreams and leisure time. The heaviness of a humid and bustling city contrasting with little pockets of paradise. In Buenos Aires you can always find a place to escape. The clear jasmine pairs wonderfully with the citrus, creating a clean fragrance, a “fresh out of the shower” scent. The dry notes stay in the background, they are noticeable but not predominant. I’ve been looking for a while to try this fragrance. I’m very happy to finally be able to enjoy it. Thumbs up!

Exquisitely pretty opening. Although Verano Porteno is not a lily of the valley scent it really reminds me of the fresh greenness that Diorissimo had before the lotv aromachemicals were banned (so probably 10+ years ago). Green, citrussy jasmine. Tones down quite quickly and lasting power is not great either. Really expensive. Still - I think it's worth it!

This lasts surprisingly well and I smell it around me after several hours. My favorite from the house of Frassai. I never made the connection to cristalle, it’s definitely got more Jasmine, but I can sense that now. Have and love both!

This is white floral fragrance blended nicely. Citrus is hiding on the back of white floral bouquet. Slightly female leaning, but I can wear this one easily as a male.

A beautiful long lasting citrus...yes, long lasting CITRUS. Shocking, I know. Clean, bright and very elegant. Worth every penny!

Amazing! It's classy, airy magnolia which makes me happy suddenly when I smell it.

We've all seen a movie where the starring actor is overshadowed by another actor in a supporting role. Not overshadowed in terms of screen time, but overshadowed in ability, presence, and delivery of the character. Verano Porteno is one such movie, where the star, jasmine, finds that ambrette and magnolia are able to do more than it can. It's a great name for the perfume too, a summer according to a citizen of Buenos Aires; there is a languid, summery quality to it, which leads me back to first statement. Throughout the perfume's life jasmine is front and center, but through the perfume's stages quite a few characters pop-in around it, create some sparks that catch your attention better, before fading away to let another character come into play. In the opening it's ambrette seed. Tight, oily, musky, and woody, it gives a beautiful sensation of sunlight and heat. But light and heat by ways of the laws of physics are highly energetic, yet somehow in Porteno they don't have any energy. The ambrette here feels... lazy (no offense, Portenos). It is content to lay around on a pool chaise and soak up the rays and the smells of a very pretty jasmine wafting on the breeze. When the ambrette dispenses - or are we to assume that the sun is going down - and our surroundings seem to cool off, magnolia enters the screen frame to outshine the jasmine in the way the ambrette did. The magnolia here is very rich, heady, just-on-the-pleasant side of sweet, and pumped full of fleshy mandarin oranges. The juxtaposition of the magnolia accord makes the jasmine's indolic side more noticeable and palpable, but there is a lot of overlap between the jasmine note and the magnolia note - so much that it's difficult for my nose to truly separate them. But the feeling imparted is clear: you've had a long, hard day laying around in the beautiful Buenos Aires sun, now it's time for a snack and you gorge on fresh oranges, the sticky and sugary juices running down your chin. Rodrigo Flores-Roux loves his florals, and it shows in his compositional history; he's a master of them, particularly when 1) he is allowed to give them some sweetness by way of fruit or something else, and 2) he is allowed to play with light. He was granted both in Porteno, and he puts his skills to full use particularly in creating an effect of bright, languid summer sunshine in the beginning then cool and indulgent dusk at the end. Verano Porteno is far from treading terra incognita, and I couldn't really argue with an opinion that it’s a bit pedestrian or mundane, a simple and pretty jasmine, but I will say that at the least I believe it has been handled and delivered quite well and in a memorable enough way that I will be happy to frequently revisit it - especially during those languid summer days.

I agree with @evarosa here. The jasmine note has a definite fresh greenness to it on opening that reminds me more of a lily of the valley or lilac. This is probably because of the influence of the magnolia, which would add creamy, greenness to it. I recently invested in a full bottle of Ineke "After My Own Heart", because I loved the hyperrealistic fresh lilac note in that one and, for a second, got my niche houses mixed up thinking this perfume belonged to them because of the initial similarity. Once it settled down, it took on more of a clean, green jasmine/magnolia blend. By contrast, Frassai's "A Fuego Lento" is a carnal, indolic jasmine. I solidly like Verano Porteño, but don't love it on me. This one could grow on me. The scent evokes the scene of languidly laying on a plush porch swing in spring, a floppy brimmed straw hat tipped on my head as I fall into a nap. A single sandal balancing off my big toe. A pile of hand-picked flowers in a pile near my head and cool breeze carrying the smell of fresh cut grass and turned earth. Calm, cool, casual and unhurried. Something to add an air of sophisticated back country sexiness to cut off jean shorts and buttoned down shirts tied at the waist.

I realize all of our noses are different but for Diorella lovers who may buy this thinking it smells like Diorella, to my nose, and someone with multiple bottles of Diorella from different periods, it literally smells nothing like it. You can look at the notes and see why it may not smell like Diorella to everyone. The notes are entirely different as is the style. This fragrance is not a chypre at all, it doesn’t even have oakmoss. Cassiano below me describes exactly what I smell and better than I could so I see no need to elaborate. But to my nose, it opens incredibly, a jasmine dominant citrus summer cologne style fragrance. Jasmine, bergamot and citron is the focus. It’s refreshing and “fresh” but with some white floral heft, it’s not all citrus and feels more like perfume than cologne. But I most definitely consider it a warm weather fragrance and despite the heavy jasmine, it’s quite unisex. The opening on this is very, very nice.

A pretty, green, contemporary chypre with a dominant magnolia note. It conjures the "white flowers meets moss" sensibilities of Eau de Magnolia, Jasmine + White Moss, and Ormonde Jayne's Tiare. These scents, of course, look backward at the likes of Diorella and Cristalle. Straddles the lines between fresh, floral, and earthy really well. Hard to dislike and would feel at home on skin in April when the magnolias are blooming all around in the northeast US.

This is a happy and luminous scent, perfect for summer and sunny days. To my nose, it smells like a nice bouquet of white flowers. It is fragrant but not headache inducing. I personally can smell a tuberose note and to my nose the citruses are fruity sweet rather than green and fresh. Definitely feminine leaning.

Opens soapy, clean and refreshing with sharp citrus. It smells like the cleanest soapy citrus. Classy soap. Jasmine comes through later for a nice finish but the citrus never disappears. Very nice. Not convinced I need a bottle for the price. -

Sugar Magnolia with a dollop of lemon- nice!

Agree with most of the reviews below. It opens like a promising summer day, bursting with a generous splash of freshly squeezed lemon. Soon, it settles into the scent of clean laundry billowing in the breeze across a vast green lawn. The journey ends all too quickly beneath a delicately scented magnolia tree, lying on your back where the grass melts into the vetiver. Sadly, this summer is short-lived on my skin.

Verano Porteño is a perfume from 2017, created in collaboration with the perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, who has also used his talent in fragrances of brands like Arquiste, Calvin Klein, Dolce&Gabbana, John Varvatos, Tom Ford, among others. The starting point for the creation of the fragrance was the summer of Buenos Aires when the smell of jasmine invades several streets of the City and the tango awakens the lovers' imagination. Officially, the fragrance of Verano Porteño has notes of Calabrian bergamot, cardamom, clementine, and Sicilian Cedrat; Southern Magnolia, Imperial Jasmine, and Alhelí; Vetiver, ambrette seeds and mate from Argentina. Verano Porteño has no mystery, as it portrays the hottest weather of the year through a vibrant and cheerful fragrance. It is the kind of perfume that conveys joy and that has color, like walking through a garden of yellow and orange flowers on a very green grass. On my skin, compared to the fragrances of Tian Di and Blondine, this is the least innovative and also the one that less evolves. Although it carries essential oils of strong citrus fruits, it is a floral-fresh scent, in which the jasmine brings a greener and brighter nuance and the magnolia complements the daytime aspect. In the output, the mix between flowers and sour fruits takes us to a path similar to that of neroli, but it is possible to perceive that there are less brightness and juiciness. Although it exhales well in the first few minutes, it suffers from the volatility of its raw materials and consequently loses power faster, staying close to the skin. Verano Porteño seems to me to be a "made in Argentina" version for classic colognes of the past that carried a lot of petitgrain and that ended up receiving the feminine touch and the modern vision of Natalia Outeda, founder of the company. It is not surprising, but it is that kind of fragrance that everyone wants to have in the collection and, perhaps, is even the best-seller of the house. It is a light and refreshing floral that combines with the sunny mornings of South America.

This is a dupe for Diorissimo from the Les Creations de Monsieur Dior line. They both are BEAUTIFUL and photorealistic white flowers with lots of rich, earthy and mossy botanicals with absolutely no heavy musc smell to ruin it. This is a beautiful fragrance that almost comes across as an ultra, ultra light version of Gucci Bloom - if Gucci Bloom had a L'eau version of itself this would be it. Bravo!

Omg, I am from Buenos Aires and I haven't lived there for many years but there is one thing I vividly remember from the city: the intoxicating smell of the flowers coming from the gardens in the old big houses at night in the spring and summer, which is something impossible to describe in words. I can't believe there is actually a perfume born out of this!!! I must absolutely try it!

To my nose, it's white florals that are clean smelling enough to verge into shampoo territory. it's pretty and feminine, and I can smell that it is objectively good- I can't imagine anyone finding it offensive or distasteful, but of course there's something boring about being inoffensive, isn't there? It's nice and I'm bored. It's boring.

This to me is not a citrus. It is a Jasmine dominant frag, lovely jasmine, very hyperrealistic, but I don't get any citrus at all. I have been trying lots of citruses recently so probably my nose is blind to more subtle citrus nuances. This is a jasmine bomb. Very springy! **175 samples up for swap UK - get in touch! **

This isn't making any kinds of waves. So far, I've really enjoyed the specificity of the Frassai scents in the discovery set. Verano Porteno doesn't cut it for me though. You can find something far more discounted for this pretty generic scent profile.

Not sure why people are calling this a long lasting citrus as it's mainly a very musky white floral with a pop of citron opening. Unfortunately it becomes more and more generic as it dries down. Smells like a designer scent.

this was a nice scent as an idea, and execution in the first year...today cheapish designer scent with a huge price tag on, and slap in your face when you realize the bottle is smaller than the 50ml, just 40 ml. SO LOW

Trully, when i sprayed this on all i got was the formula of "Diorella" by Christian Dior with that sour jasmines and vetiver drink. Bits of musk, allot of magnolias, and chunks of citron. Impressive but done before.

This is a stunning fragrance. Unfortunately some reviewers have either bad taste, cold personalities or enjoy talking badly about other people’s success and business. Gorgeous happy classy smell ! Thumbs up!
