Ummagumma

I am a novice when it comes to fragrances. In general, I smell like nothing. I find scents to be overpowering and distracting. My sister, however, is a new collector and introduced me to the world of Fragrantica. I stumbled across FZOTIC, and I appreciated the deviation from department store colognes that give me a headache. The reviews for Ummagumma were so compelling, I couldn’t resist. I had no expectations, only curiosity—and a hope to be disarmed. I’ve always loved vanilla, smoky scents that don’t lean too sweet, and musks that stay grounded, avoiding spices that are too peppery or patchouli-like. I sprayed once on each wrist, and I paused. Not in awe, at first—but in confusion. This did not smell like any conventional perfume I have ever come across, it smelled like a place. I couldn’t name what I was smelling at first, only that it felt nostalgic I had expected mystery—a winter evening in a bottle. Cold nights warmed by a shared flask with friends. But instead, on otherwise unremarkable day in May, Ummagumma offered me something far more personal. Before it settled, it smelled like graham crackers around the memory of campfire. And then it unfurled into the steady idle of a truck cab heated just enough by the midday light, the kind that makes you drowsy, eyes fluttering closed, as paper receipts on the dashboard stir in breeze just enough to keep you from drifting off. This is exactly the scent of my grandmother’s old Chevy—the one she used to haul horses, where I rode in the back seat, legs sticking to the vinyl, heart content. I haven’t sat in that truck for over a decade: the faint sweetness of cherry ChapStick, the worn leather of bridles, the musk of sun-warmed dust, and that ever-present smoky-sweetness I could never place as a kid. When I was older, I recognized that vague, elusive vanilla scent as the faint residue of Swisher Sweets, enjoyed in solitude on long drives when she was finally alone. Ummagumma is a spell. I just have a sample of it but will be purchasing the full size, and I hope it is never discontinued. I am so grateful that I get to experience a reminder of my childhood in a bottle.

This takes the sweet golden incense of Amber Absolute as well as the smoky tobacco leaf of Tobacco Oud (without the dirtiness) and drowns them both in pure cocoa powder. I cannot express how much I love this. The cocoa somewhat fades with time but it's always there in the background, making this fragrance uniquely compelling. I see it has been compared to Slumberhouse Ore - they share a similar cocoa note, but instead of incense, Ore mixes that cocoa with dry woods. They're both great but I find myself more drawn to Ummagumma, perhaps because it's the stranger of the two (though reminding me of two of my favorite Tom Ford fragrances doesn't hurt). It performs a bit ambiguously though: it has great longevity, but it can be fairly airy with sillage that fades in and out. Perhaps I'm experiencing olfactory fatigue, but my impression (unlike some others here) is it has intimate projection after 20 minutes or so. Of course, you can always just spray more - with a fragrance this addictive, it's hard not to. Edit: This lasts for more than 24 hours on my skin, though it's mostly a tobacco leaf accord by that point, very similiar to that of Tobacco Oud's drydown. There's still a touch of chocolate, but it's very faint. And upon further testing, it seems the projection is not as close as I thought - olfactory fatigue definitely plays a role in making it seem that way but others can smell me for some time. I'd say 3ft or so for 4-6 hours, not bad at all. This is an incredible fragrance!

Deja Vu. That's my first impression. I feel I've smelled this before, but I can't remember the name. It is somehow reminiscent of a lot of incense-themed scents (Heeley, Tauer, Mandy Aftel, Sonoma Scent Studio) thrown in with some chocolate Bond-T, and a resinous Serge Lutens. The familiarity however, does not breed contempt. This is luscious. While it is not exactly like any of the above, I'm trying to recall where I smelled something similar. But what do I smell? Chocolate (Boom!) followed by pipe tobacco and flanked with a delicious Vanilla Tonka (not gourmand somehow). This is the 90% chocolate, dark, rich, lush, barely edible chocolate. Within 10 minutes, those three predominant notes comingle beautifully with woods and incense, almost smokey, but not like cade, more beautifully sweet and fragrant smoke. This is a well-balanced, deep dark fragrance that after the first hour lightens into a more amber-incense themed scent, a bit sexy but also comforting. The silage is moderate, not particularly great after that 10 minute opening, but the longevity is moderate to long. This is a hit! I wasn't keen on the name though I love Pink Floyd, but the scent is quite good. Thumbs up here.

Ummagumma is surely Bruno Fazzolari's most delicious composition yet, a mostly-gourmand blend of cacao, labdanum, vanilla, tobacco, and woods. It's sweet, creamy, resinous, and woody. Quite likable for lovers of sweet and gourmand fragrances, similar but not as a sweet as Kyse Perfumes Oui Plus as Ummagumma lacks the graham cracker vibe, it's also a bit like Slumberhouse Ore but without Ore's signature pepper strength. Tobacco gives Ummagumma some character, as well, rounding out the sweet/woody pairing with a slight edginess. Carnation and leather are listed notes, as well, but I don't really detect either. Perhaps the leather just mixes well with the tobacco, though. Performance is very good, strong in both projection and longevity. Based on the performance, the $125 for 30ml price is more warranted for Ummagumma than perhaps for any other of the house's offerings. This very well might be my favorite release from the house to date, along with Five. Very impressive, a gourmand creation that is nonetheless sophisticated and even restrained in certain ways but certainly amounts to an amalgam of interesting notes, expertly blended. Bravo to Bruno! 8 out of 10

I got this a few years ago and it's a TOTAL love. It's so weird, so left-of-centre, so PECULIAR. I get Sahara Noir vibes -- I tried to add this to the 'this reminds me of' section, and it instantly vanishes, suggesting someone else already did this, and it got voted down. Dark, stinky, resinous, balsamic, chocolatey. Love. It's different to Ore -- more resin depth. It's different to Pale Fire -- more umami / gourmand elements. Look, it's not an easy wear, I probably couldn't wear it in the office without getting side-eyed, but I do indeed love it, and it's such a great addition to my collection. Definitely for the colder months, and more of a day use scent -- I wouldn't want to go to bed with this cloud around me, I wouldn't sleep too well!

Superb. Ummagumma is a slang term for sex coined by a Pink Floyd roadie in the late 1960s—and yes an album title too. This perfume with the same name is a beautiful chocolate incense number, and yes it does make me think of the late 60s and early 70s in the best possible way. There’s sticky resins and vanilla in the base of this inspired composition, making for an intoxicatingly addictive scent experience from start to finish. Although not the most original scent I do get great performance— more than eight hours and even longer if sprayed on clothes. Personally, I love Ummagumma, and after one wearing it went immediately on my buy list. For cold weather months, and perfectly unisex.

Just like all of Bruno's work, this one is odd, endearing, and different. There is the chocolate, that first powdery and bitter bite of cocoa. Then the saffron and the vanilla. Making this gourmand. But then there are the diaper cream notes of labdanum and olibanum. Balanced by the mature, comforting, relaxing tobacco and amber, just autumnal enough to introduce wood notes of sandalwood and cedar. Would I buy a full bottle? Probably not. But maybe that's because I already own Feu Secret and Untitled, two of his other creations. LIke everything he does, there is happiness and festiveness in the fragrance, never any note of sadness or apathy.

If you are the sort of perfume lover who only wants their perfume detected when someone hugs you, then this scent is for you. My experience of this scent is very different from other people: On myself, all I am smelling is a sweet version of Satya Nag Champa Sandalwood Incense Stick. If your body chemistry brings out other notes, good for you. However, just smelling sandalwood incense is not a bad thing, either. I like it, but there seems to be very little sillage. My nose is a centimeter from my forearm, and it’s pretty faint. I suggest that if you are curious, buy a decant of this perfume before buying the whole bottle.

I got a sample of Ummagumma in the portfolio set that Bruno Fazzolari sells. I highly recommend getting it so you can try all of his fragrances. It is one of my favorites. It includes scents of sweet tobacco, with hints of chocolate, and wood. When you smell it, there is almost a warmth behind it. I like to wear it during the Winter or Fall. I enjoy smelling my wrists when I wear it. I got caught at work once smelling myself. It was awkward, but I don't care it smells that good. After I ran out of the sample I purchased a full bottle and I can't wait until Fall arrives to wear it again.

***My review is for the 2025 - Ummagumma - EXTRA version*** Welllll Bruno has hit another home run...I did NOT think this fragrance could be made better & it has been, yet the original DNA is still very much intact, which makes me EXTREMELY HAPPY!! I am still in my chocolate incense like heaven...soo DIVINE & perfect for chilly days/nights in Georgia. I paired this with a body oil from Brown Sugar Babe, the HOT CHOCOLATE fragrance, & I smelled soo RICH & DECADENT...even my Sister in Law, who rarely gives me compliments, told me I smell FANTASTIC..trust me that’s HUGE!

WOW! I got a sample of this a few days ago and I am completely enamored. The cacao top note reminds me a lot of Cadavre Exquis, it's rich and rummy, and fades into a gorgeous amber with whispers of myhrr. Today I applied ONE SPRAY at work, and a few minutes later, a co-worker separated by a hallway and two closed doors asked if I'd put something on, because something "woody and green" was drifting into her office,(and she didn't mind a bit) :-) meaning the sillage is at least eight feet, but somehow it's not overpowering, even up close.

Opens with dry unsweetened cocoa... deepens, warms, grows spicy and friendly and playful but still with a dustiness. My mental image: drinking cinnamon mocha in a wealthy eccentric's library filled with creaking wooden furniture and moldering leather books, clean and organized, yet the aftersmell of tobacco and exotic incense still lingering in the shelves. Unfamiliar and a little weird, but so cozy.

this is so akin to slumberhouse’s ‘ore’ it’s hard to understand how anyone who’s smelt ‘ore’ before could not be overwhelmed by the comparison. is it necessarily a bad thing? no, i adore ‘ore’, but i do wish i’d gotten more of the earthy spice from saffron and carnation to differentiate the two. i would be interested to see what a non-black pepper spice hit in ‘ore’ would do for me.

the same chocolate/cacao as the one used in corpse reviver. this one has some amber-like resin backing it, i'm thinking it's a muted 'amber absolute' working here, but i can't be sure... the chocolate is not the usual 'edible' chocolate scent i've smelt elsewhere; this one is dry, unsweetened and not as palatable as others. a very VERY intriguing mix, that's for sure!

Guess the site took off the original name ( which had my review ) of this and kept this new label one. This one, for the dark, chocolate, smokey lovers, is a must have. I can't remember my detailed review now but, I remember loving this one. It's excellent for the cold/winter maybe even fall weather. A must have in the collection.

Ummagumma is a finely crafted late night love spell. Comforting dark chocolate, mysterious resins, and a cozy wood cabin dry-down. The smell of candlelight, engaging conversation, and enduring long-term love. I sprayed a little sample of this on my partner and was completely mesmerized.

Incense and dark chocolate. I love this one. The incense really kicks in during the dry down, at which point it reminds me a little of Rundholz's 03 April 1968 - but swap the lychee for chocolate. I can't stop sniffing my wrist when I wear this. Really beautiful for fall and winter.

Wore this for the first time while eating messy, fresh chocolate chip cookies alone in my apartment. Perfect. It smells like eating the cookies on a leather couch. Maybe in a log cabin. I want to buy a full bottle and wear it all winter.

Maybe I do like gourmands. This is intoxicating - a warm, winter scent. One that can brighten up a cold night. Vanilla that isn't cloying or overly feminine. A very gender neutral scent for rainy days and steamy nights. Cozy. I love.

Ummagumma is a rich, dark, sweet contraption with an unusually salty-animalic underlayer. Yes, there’s chocolate in the opening, but it’s not dominant; Ummagumma is all dark resins and woods and leather and tobacco, with that little thread of salty gold at the heart. @noseandnous had a great mental image of Ummagumma as an stray cat brought into a cozy book-lined study and fed sardines. all the tropes are there (the dark wood paneling; the leather armchair; the crackling fireplace) but Ummagumma is saltier, furrier, and wilder than you’d expect from the usual “Dad’s study” sort of Oriental. By about 2 hours in, Ummagumma transforms completely. It’s shifted to a warm reddish-brown spicy incense base, almost like cinnamon candy, or like the spicy incense of Lita, but here it has a wild, roaring, crackling texture. It feels like flame and booming drums, like some kind of crazed Samhain bonfire dance. We’re not in the cozy study anymore; we’re rocking out, and the thunder is rolling in. This fiery incense phase is extremely potent — it lasts at least 18 hours, sending up tendrils of warming spice all day long. I’ve encountered Ummagumma’s satisfying salty-gold-animalic chord in a couple other rich dark indie perfumes: Pryn Taiga is salty-gold + pine-sap leather, and Slumberhouse Sova is salty-gold + cloves. Ummagumma is in the same rough, potent indie style as Taiga and Sova, but more multifaceted and chaotic than the other two; it’s salty-gold AND dark resins AND chocolate AND spice. Is it a hot mess or a reckless delight? I’m still not sure.
