Cascaya

This is a perfume I had been told was no longer available in any form. To discover it still exists is a beautiful shock! I first purchased it in some tiny shop in Europe, back in 1995 on my Senior High school trip! I was four days off a breakup that had hurt badly, and idly wandering through the shops to pass the time. The bottle grabbed my attention at first because the cap is my favorite color. Then the SCENT! Tingly, gloriously rich and exciting florals met my nose and filled me with sense of joy that had been sorely lacking in the previous few days. I promptly purchased the bottle, wearing it every day for the rest of the three week trip. I babied the bottle home in my carry on (as liquid restrictions were much more lax back then) and continued to wear it until the bottle was completely empty. I went to the local shops to purchase a new bottle, only to be told that it didn't exist! That "it must have been discontinued, so sorry, can we interest you in..." I was heartily disappointed. I consoled myself with sniffing the bottle for another couple of years, until it was lost in a move. To have it come to light now, literally 30 YEARS later, is once again filling me with an unexpected, but very welcome, sense of joy.

Ugh I've got so much to learn XD I thought this will be in the oriental group... It definitely reminds me of an oppulent Arabian night.Hehe...

The opening is very bold with a lot of woody scents and a touch of citrus, lovely. Then it turns bittersweet and warm, wonderful balanced. The dry down on me is unfortunately too sweet to wear again but it's a very nice perfume!

My mum, who was obsessed with Gabriela Sabatini and Priscilla Presley perfumes then, had this one. I remember this one as a strong and heavy floral perfume and that a single spray would last all day. I can compare it to Yves Rocher's Pivoine, but Cascaya is a lot lighter. The chypre notes were hardly noticeable, therefore it cannot be compared to "real" chypres. The scent was fresh in the opening, but looking back it must have been the aldehydes. I loved it on my mum!
