Ambre Iris

An absolute beauty this one, from my point of view! It is very buttery. We can really feel the iris and the leather - this is the core of the perfume. It is very similar with Moroccan Leather from Memo , just that ML is more green than Ambre Iris because of the galbanum note. Ambre Iris is more potent on the heavy notes and I agree that you need a certain mood in order to wear this perfume , because it can induce indeed a head ache. But if you are a leather and an iris lover, go for this beauty because it is a stunner!! A very elegant creation in a vintage way, proper for moments with style, not for everyday use. I am really surprised that Galimard is asking only 70 euros for this refined creation.

I don't usually review ladies scents as I'm not really interested in them, but I received a sample (a perfumed strip) from Galimard for subscribing to their catalogue while attending one of their "create your scent" workshop and upon opening the plastic envelope, it was impossible to ignore it :) Off the tester strip, considering time spent travelling by post which may have weakened and probably burnt off all the top notes, I really enjoy Ambre Iris. It is sweet, but not heavy, refined and powdery. I get a touch of almond but it might be because I'm wearing Guerlain L'Homme Ideal and the two are mixing up in the air (if so, I would really recommend layering this with an almond/heliotrope-focused scent, because it smells really good!), or it may be some facets of the vanilla/leather accord. I feel this would be a wonderful date/reception/evening scent more than an everyday staple and I kind of picture this in my mind on a lady, with a long evening dress, or a man in a tuxedo. Despite missing one third of the scent (top notes, as mentioned above) from the olfactory experience, I would almost say this ventures on the unisex side of things as the iris doesn't come across particularly feminine here. Galimard has some great stuff out there, and should get out of their turf in Grasse with a bit more confidence.

294 Besides the pleasant vanilla citrus note, I found this herbal, touch soapy, and vegetal, rooty. Must be the iris. 2/10-not a fan of this. Would not repurchase.

For me unfortunately this is unwearable, the saffron, lavender, sage and ambergris combine to make what is to my nose a very masculine scent, almost reminds me of mothballs. Hopefully it works better for others.

Very much in the same vein as Nicolai Amber Cashmere Intense. Which is to say, wonderful...expensive and mature smelling. 3.5 out of 5.
