Galimar

A spicy, spirited oriental fragrance which has staying power, but does not overpower. It is distinctive and not too sweet; for all occasions. Galimar will make you smile. It is truly a lovely perfume! I am so happy I found it in the US at the Village Parfumery; look onlinefor contact info!

After a blast of citrus (bergamot and orange), Galimar gets warmer and spicier: each hour it gets better & better. A perfect fit for the time of year: dreary, rainy and grey December weather. The scent would be cloying in summer, but right now it feels oh so cosy! A wonderful cosy scent draped around you like a warm winter coat. I'd have sworn the warm scent is amber but that note is not listed. Galimar is claimed to resemble Shalimar, but without side-by-side comparison I can't compare. Longevity is totally awesome , well over 12 hours.

Galimar is often compared to Shalimar, but at most they are merely similar, creatures of the same genus of oriental perfumes heralded by Émeraude de Coty and perfected by Shalimar (and perhaps, for us gents, Le Galion's Special for Gentlemen). I would actually throw men's fragrances like Zizanie de Fragonard and Royal Cophenhagen in the field of comparison. Galimar is not unlike those two, and maybe even slightly closer to Zizanie than Shalimar--I really don't see this as an exclusively feminine perfume, and I'm not in the business of pretending anyone can pull anything they like off. Galimar opens with the same muted, rounded, powdery citrus this species of perfume usually starts with, but soon blooms with spice and flowers--no flower screams out, but the texture of the drydown makes me think there's a bit more rose in the blend than in the formulas of Galimar's cousins. The base is creamy, woody, musky, ambery, and soft. Nicely done. But like I say re: all Galimard fragrances: get the very affordable parfum or eau de parfum to experience the polished Provençal je ne sais quoi of Galimard's offerings, which doesn't really shine through at all in the eaux de toilette.

What a great perfume this is! One of the better ones in the Galimard female line to be honest and very close to the well known "Shalimar". It has a masterfully blended powdery character and it embraces the wearer and supports her personality like only a few other fragrances can. It creates a distinct statement and is quite memorable! Goes well with all ages as well. A note: 1. This is not a morning perfume. 2. This is a "Shalimar" (read my review) I can stand.
