Glowberry

I don’t even like mass of fruity-florals that started early 2000’s! And the rose/pepper combination perfumers keep trotting out as original and groundbreaking is an irritating yawn. But this. Is. Gorgeous. The through-line for Gallagher fragrances is ‘Excess of goodness is never too much.’ Take Glowberry: if you’re going to have a fruit, why not raspberry? It’s complex, with floral, fruit, and tart notes. But, it can be tart. So let’s add strawberry! - also floral, fruit, but more creamy/sweet than tart. But... well, we don’t want too tart. So a little sugar. But maybe that is too much sugar... apricot! Really floral - heart, dense floral with a top of aromatic high floral. But is it too sweet, or too tart? OK black current! Rich, dense, great balancer. And mandarin, because, delicious! Oh, yeah, floral. Rose is gorgeous. A big hank of beautiful red rose. But Daniel Gallagher would never stop THERE! No, he wanted to include floral, so he’s going to add another floral facet - magnolia per notes in Fragrantica, per my nose a light jasmine/lily combo. And then patchouli because, Gallagher. Not a rank, off-notes patchouli. For this fragrance it’s a dry, light, almost whistling patchouli which conjures (along with the magnolia) a great big hank of delicious and soapy Egyptian musk - because it’s so absurdly beautiful, that’s why. Egyptian musk done right is such a clear angelic note of beauty in anything. But, we’re not going to let that floral-fruit thing go incomplete... flowers, fruit, they have leaves. So there’s gonna be a ripple of green too well chosen to be either bitter or clunky vegetal. Green. Clear, light, green leaf. Anything that smells good, that pulls your head up because you notice something that just smells wonderful? Gallagher house will use it. So this ‘yawn-fruity-floral’ is: really delicious berry jam, a snap of orange peel, apricots in sun. Clean soap and skin Egyptian musk. A stupidly abundant, rich, yard full of red roses in the morning complete with their leaves. And that’s how Gallagher does it. But I don’t LIKE fruity-floral! Except this. Here’s what the idea of fruity-floral was supposed to be but in excess.

Gallagher aptly describes Glowberry as luminous. Like Crimson Veil, it's bright, green, and fresh, a lovely summer perfume. If Crimson Veil edges on the masculine side, Glowberry dances along the feminine. It's not as delectably sweet as Tonkazure.. It's less gourmand, blended beautifully without any sharp edges. This would be a great daily driver. I kept noticing as it shifted during the day, wondering who smelled so good, until I realized it was me. Green and bright with champagne-like nuances.

I mostly smell sweet strawberry - which is exactly what I hoped for. Every time I wear it, people compliment me, and that says a lot about how pleasant this perfume is. The longevity is strong too.

Sampling Glowberry, one of the two most recent releases from Gallagher Fragrances from early 2025, part of the Pearlescent collection. It’s a vibrant, fruity blend dominated by a mix of tart berries, citruses, blackcurrant, sugar, and perhaps most significantly, magnolia, a lovely fresh fruity/floral blend that, to me, indicates spring or summer, but is pleasant and robust enough for wearing on any occasion. It definitely deepens the house’s catalogue that is frankly already rich with fresh/fruity/floral fragrances, offering something a bit new, like a ripe summer berry to complement the aquatics, florals, and spicier blends in the catalogue. It’s not among my very favorite freshies from the house but it’s quite nice and I’d absolutely recommend that everyone try it out. Glowberry is part of the Pearlescent collection and as such is very reasonably priced in extrait concentration at $125 for 60ml, sold both via the house website and boutiques like Perfumology. 7 out of 10

Opening is very green, not sweet or fruity.
