Bay Rum Cologne

People seem hung up on the clove note in this one. While I agree it is prominent, it is offset by a massive bay note that dwarfs the clove 15 seconds after application. The rum is always there, but acts as a minor player, more the corona to the spiced bay than a blatant accompaniment, a gentle tinge of sweetness that follows through to the dry-down. In the far dry-down the rum comes forward more as a very refined, expensive, not overly-sweet liquor, and is very soft. I agree with those who wish the rum were more pronounced, but feel the argument is splitting hairs, especially in a casual fragrance of this nature. If you enjoy Pinaud's Virgin Island Bay Rum, but want it done on a higher budget, Trumper's delivers. I would note, however, that it is likely for fans of the "bay" aspect more than those seeking the "rum," and it is also true that you must abide quite a bit of clove. Ingredient quality is strikingly high, so to my nose it works.

I'm not the expert on Bay Rum scents, but are they supposed to be just clove? Not that I mind clove, especially when it's so accurate, but this is like an entire meal of clove soup with clove sticks, clove salad, roast clove with a side of mashed cloves and iced clove tea, followed by a clove pie. I doubt that I'll be dining here again. I'd like a word with the manager. And it's pink. I don't get it. That being said, what's presented here is subjectively a clean and clear, airy spice scent with implicit wood notes, and it's fairly refreshing and ethereal when you sniff it from right up close.

This stuff reeks of cloves. There is a bit of bay, but it seems almost completely overpowered by the clove scent. I like to wear it when I'm feeling nostalgic, as it reminds me of my clove cigarette smoking days in college. Most people I know, though, don't like the scent, so I wouldn't really recommend it unless you happen to be a big clove fan.

People seem bent out of shape over the clove, but when I tested this I got 90% bay leaf and not much clove at all. Maybe it’s been recently reformulated.

Cloves and smoke. Very dry. I would say no, but...it dries down much more pleasant.

I can only recommend it for the clove fans, that is the overpowering note in there. No complexity, just CLOVE...and CLOVE, and CLOOOOVE!!!! Can be sprayed several times a day, it is gone within 1-2 hrs, personal experience.

I got this because I wanted an original and authentic spicy bay rum scent. What? I wanted to smell like a pirate... Anyways, if there was any bay rum in there it was completely deafened by the clove. It is really not pleasant.

See and hear me crying with laughter. Bay Rum smells like....I thought for ages it smells like Bacardi or Havana Club or Captain Morgan, funny, I know... But...Quoting Justice Glaster its "Clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove Clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove Clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove clove..... thats all you get" Take it or leave it, just do not call it Rum and Bay, please!

It is hardly unusual that clove would appear in bay rum, as it has long been regarded as a key component. What is sad is that it has become a one note song in this cologne. Bay rum is supposed to have at least some component of West Indian leaf in it (not to be confused with the bay laurel that is used in cooking). It is also common to expect lime or other citrus to be present. I suppose Trumper is entitled to at least one dud!

"it smells of cloves! “ they all wailed. Erm..... Yes because West Indian Bay smells similar to cloves and nothing like the bay that we use in the kitchen. So it's an authentic Bay Rum.
