Ambre Soie

Ambre Soie is really a exquisite composition in this genre. It's seemingly simplistic, a bit linear, yet does not affect its marvelous aesthetic taste nor harm the balance of its structure. Ambre Soir opens with a preserved plum flavor, soft, smooth, sweet and sour. If you have ever smelled Tom Ford Black Orchid EDP , you might get some connection between those two, but it should to be noted that Ambre Soir is, of course, nowhere near as oversaturated as Black Orchid. Just in a few minutes, there comes a layer of dried mandarin peel, aka chenpi (陳皮), with a hint of spices, and surrounded by amber which in turn provides more depth and extends a rich, rounded and heady dimension to it. Soon, I detect incense in a quite concretized way that bears some resemblence to Bois d'Encens , which overall express me a image about breeze blows the sands into sky in a desert. Anyhow, it's not a typical amber perfume that used to emphasize the carnal or sensual aspect of the accord, say Amouage Interlude Man , Dior Ambre Nuit and Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan etc. Instead, the amber note is somehow rather subdued and restrained here and made to be more low-profile and of wisdom in terms of its temperament. Since I've not yet had a chance to sample Fendi Theorema , so I do not know the comparison. But I can still say that Ambre Soir is solid, versatile, and definately worths a try. Rating: 8.5-9.0/10

Totally agree with Little Prince...this juice is bold. The high quality amber with a sharp vib of cloves gives it a animalistic quality. After your partner smells this fragrance she'll be so horny...very sexual aroma. There's a smig of pepper with patchouli brings this fragrance together beautifully. Longevity and Silage is excellent lasting over 8hrs on my skin. Finally, When you try this juice, you have to wait for the oils to settle letting the strong aroma of herbal/spicy notes give way to the amber. The amber in this fragrance is SEXY/DIRTY. Am I glad I bought this fragrance, I have no regrets. Too bad Armani discontinued this blast of a real attractive amber. No doubt this juice is a 10/10. Highly recommended..a very dark/mysterious fragrance.

This is a very bold amber scent although underplayed and quiet. Rich amber with a heavy anisic element and spices that make it very intriguing. The patchouli is also prominet and makes the fragrance radiate with a very beguiling dusty earthiness. The fact that the usual suspect of ambers, vanilla, is absent makes things even better for me. Actually, I happen to prefer this over other amber scents that tend to get very sweet and bombastic and although they are nice I simply can't wear them everyday. Also their vanillic softness usually makes them somehow boring after repeated wearings. This unique composition is drier, darker and the woody dustiness it exhibits satisfies my tastes much, much better. As of 2015, discontinued.

Re:review on this one and it's impressive. Great take on amber....Ambre soie is really dirty, like unearthing a chunk of amber from a dirty, peaty soil but with a slight sweetness. I get a peculiar liquorice vibe from the combination of ginger, cloves and pepper with a slight creaminess of patchouli it's really good I enjoyed it the first time and my second try of this has made me realise just how good it is. Very masculine on my skin, not the longest lasting or best sillage but not bad. I have lots of Amber fragrances already but yet again this one brings something totally new to the table. The entire Privé collection are really special.

Really people? 150 euros for such a thin smell?? My bottle doesn't say Cologne, it says Eau de Parfum, but the longevity is disappointing... I fell in love with this last year, i adore the strong anise, amber, clove, cinnamon and patchouli, but no matter in which season and in which weather i've tried it, it's gone within a couple of hours.. Only i can then detect it vaguely on my skin... Am I the only one here who feels deceived..?? PS I went through the first bottle quickly because the scent is gorgeous but i kept reapplying to be able to enjoy it. Verdict: i still adore it, but feel underwhelmed by its sillage and longevity...

Must say I was quite impressed with these Armani Prive collection...only tried three or four so far but the one's in this collection and despite being pricey are pretty good value for money given the quality and the amount of juice you get compared to other high end collections or niche perfumers. The ones with the gold tops however are a little extortionate! This is a nice amber scent with warm accompaniments which make for a very good fragrance on the whole. Seemed potent at first but didn't last too long on my skin.

Had this for quite a while, I get the comparison between other amber scents, but this goes off in its own unique direction; it's a spicy peppery scent, wrapped in amber that pokes through a bit :) An overall very strong, very beautiful yet unique scent. This is one for the adults, not one for the weak, and one that I appreciate in my small collection, and I realise now how rare and hard to find this has become. Extremely rare, a gem, and like many it's a shame it's discontinued :(

Does anybody know the difference between perfume in wooden boxes and that in ordinary box? I had a sample for a years and now got a bottle (modern version, without wood) and it seems to me that my little samples was much more long lasting than liquid in modern package. So when I saw a comments about weak longevity I find that may be it's about those new bottles...Am I right? Or is the chemistry of my skin makes me feel this way?

the longer i have this one, the more i really appreciate it. it seemed quite simple & linear at first but repeated wearings (across all seasons) have slowly revealed a very subtle yet complex interaction of amber, anise & patchouli. very classy, low-key and cozy as hell. has overtaken bois d'encens as my fave armani prive and borneo 1834 as my fave patchouli (cuz it's SO well-blended!)

I have close to full bottle in canada for sale. Now onto review, Its one of the most artistic ambers i have ever tried. The amber here is very decadent. Cloves give it the necessary spiciness and woods in the background elevate the whole composition. Great longevity with mediocre projection.

Despite his being gay this is the best chance I'll ever have of being jumped by Rupert Everett. It's got to be irrestible and if I am lucky he won't have his glasses on.It's warm and what is that awful phrase ?It is skanky as anything that is skanky on skanky day.

How can this be compared to Yves Rocher Voile d'Ambre is beyond me. Besides, YR VdA does not even have a proper amber note. If anything, Ambre Soie is similar to Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan.

80's Vogue. It was a golden age of haute couture and then, Armani was on the top, with andronigous and the most elegant, chic models. This is true Armani style. Sexy, but discreet and elegant, sophisticated perfume. If I have to choose between Ambre Sois and SL Ambre Sultan - my vote goes to Armani because of more modern and sophisticated interpretation of amber oriental perfumes. Amber and creamy labdanum with fresh ginger and anise/licorice notes, with musk and patchouli waves, warm all of your senses. It is playful fragrance and always on the verge of animalistic, but never crosses that line. At this point I'm a little bit confused with myself, because, sometimes it is too polite for my (amber) taste, but on the other hand it is also the first amber perfume I can really enjoy also in the morning, not only in the evenings. Longevity is aweak side of this beautiful perfume, so: 3,5/5

Love this fragrance its warm, dark and spicy. very well done, you can smell the quality of the ingredients, just brilliant. its a light ginger, amber scent with a mix of dark earthy spices. Ok longevity and projection. lovely bottle design its like a decoration. It is expensive but not a waste of money in my opinion compared to some other 'niche' fragrances.This is my first purchase from the prive line will definitely look at the others hope they do not disappoint. overall a great fragrance especially for winter 8.5/10

Lovely stuff! My male pal bought this recently, but I think it's pretty much unisex depending on your taste. It's a slightly smoky amber, very slightly sweet though not obviously so. The hint of spices is lovely, the patchouli is subtle too, you can't particularly pick out the notes as it's very well blended. Quite classy and elegant, I'd say it's verging on niche style, intriguing and different but not challenging. It's quite distinct and persistent though, and I'd say best suited to evening

The warm spicy opening is wonderful; a juxtaposition of ginger, clove, and what seems like a cinnamon-nutmeg cross. A bit later, a clear anis note comes forward then blends with the spices. As the dry-down continues, the amber note comes to the fore, while the spices still linger. Sillage is limited, and longevity is acceptable. It would be on my love-buy list, except I find it has just a shade too much of a masculine touch for me. A wonderful fragrance experience.

less resinoid Ambre Sultan to me. very dry and dim, and light.

Mild soft amber& patchouli duet. I like this silent combination a lot. Intelligent and cozy fragrance (I'd suggest it wearing during daytime), quite linear, but still very likeable. The note of cloves is composed very nice, it is not cloying. And I prefer this over Fendi Theorema - they have some similarities but Ambre Soie doesn't have a note (I couldn't find out what exactly it was) which annoys me in Theorema. Longevity is medium only.
