Rose Noire Absolue

Just received this in the mail yesterday. I usually don't write about fragrances soon after I get them, as I need to have a period of time to reflect and understand it's sum parts. But I bought Rose Noire Absolute thinking it was going to be an old fashioned, English rose type of scent which would be fitting of my personality. I have been spoiled by Joy and Tea Rose, which both are fleshed out and realistic as smelling rose as in nature, thorns, stems, rainwater and that cold, fresh chilly freshness that reminds me of a rose covered in rain on a cold spring morning. This fragrance is different, more like smelling rose on body or face powder. It would be too easy to resign myself and say I am disappointed, but I don't give up like that. I defy myself to discover what it is about this fragrance that make others enjoy it. For me, that is part of the game, the intrigue involved in becoming acquainted with something I don't yet understand. My nose is confused at the moment as I have been wearing a really powerful Orchid scented oil for about a week now...To be continued

I received a sample with a swap and I LOVED this scent! When I ordered it and smelled it from the bottle from the first time...it was a HUGE disappointment. While it's okay smelling, it wasn't at all close to what I smelled in the tester bottle - which was sweet, rosey and almost gourmand. I don't know if I got a crap bottle from eBay or maybe the sample vial had something sweet in it before, but now I'm trying to force myself to love this...but I don't. Guess I'll keep trying - but if someone is interested in swapping for another inexpensive rose...PM me :) UPDATE 10/6/15: I don't know what it is...this "bad" bottle with the interesting smell...is really starting to grow on me....I started a return to eBay, but I'm thinking of just keeping it and buying another bottle just for a comparison. Another update when I get the new bottle...

This is a very nice, slightly complex rose perfume with top notes of apple and citrus, and musky, powdery base notes that complement the rose really well. I find myself reaching for it often, especially because in addition to being a very versatile daily-wear scent, it doesn't trigger my allergies at all. This is probably the best scent in its price range that I've ever found. It's easy to underestimate its longevity because one tends to become nose-blind to it, but close friends tell me that I still smell lovely long after I think it's worn off. A great scent at a great price. What's not to love?

Very fresh apple opening, so pretty... followed by the palest of pink roses. Lots of them. Very shampoo clean and refreshing. This is a gorgeous little treasure for pennies, and she holds on,gently, all day. I layer with this one a lot. Very versatile and the total opposite of the Powder Bomb that is the original Rose Noire. I imagine a sparkling pink bubble bath with this perfume, so softly sweet and clean is she.

I really like this fragrance. It's a sweet mix of rose and apple with hints of other notes. It lasts for about 5 hours on me. I bought a big bottle of it years ago and have not once regretted it. I'll definitely buy it again when I run out.

Another blind buy for me as it was on special from an already low price point. I have been consistently impressed with this fragrance. It's extremely versatile, it doesn't scream any certain time of day, or even season. For its' low price it presents as a remarkable, sophisticated, if simple, frag. A lovely, apple fresh opening quickly morphs into a delightful, clear rose. The drydown is stellar, with the rose lasting beautifully and remaining clean and glossy, with a warm, dry, but still light-handed sandalwood rounding out the base. That same sandalwood helps prevent the rose from becoming too 'fluro pink' during the heart too. A surprisingly well balanced scent. Whilst I agree totally that this is a 'pale pink' type of scent, it's not a bubble-gum, Barbie pink. This is a dusty pale pink, low on saturation and without much smoke. Clear, sweet - but not sickeningly so. Old world rose in colour, but utterly contemporary to the nose. It certainly leans feminine, but, as a man I have worn it solo on the occasional crisp, spring day - especially if I'm going to be outdoors, picnicking or enjoying a day in the park. The real value for me as a man, is that I find this layers in a spectacular fashion with some of the bone-dry, bitter mens' fragrances I inherited from my father. All of which have that signature bitter, herbal spice that was so prevalent in the 70's/80/s. A dash of this over the top of them adds a glorious, singing, floral sweetness - just enough to offset the chemical bitterness of some of the more severe mens' offerings. Longevity is remarkable, sillage is on the softer side of moderate, but never feels wanting. This is a light, spring morning, not a incense-filled, red wine monster.

I tried this fragrance for the first time today, and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I LOVED the initial blast, which to my nose, was nothing but rose. I'm talking in your face, getting thorn scratches on your nose, overwhelming in a wonderful way, rose. Sadly, that faded away within about a half an hour. Somewhere in that half hour I smelled a distinct hint of smoke(?). I don't know where that came from...smoke isn't listed as one of the notes. Other than the predominant rose and hint of smoke, I really couldn't identify any other notes at all. I'm not very disappointed about that since what attracted me to this scent was the rose, but it is odd that I can't smell anything else. The huge disappointment with this for me is that my skin ate it so fast. I got about half hour to one hour of being able to smell the rose. After that, for a couple of hours I could smell it faintly if I held my wrist up to my nose, but after the two hour mark, I couldn't even smell that. Overall, if the sillage and longevity improved, I'd be happy with this, but as it is, I'm very disappointed.

I had tested this at the mall in 2011 and wasnt head over heels for it, BUT I still remembered that I liked it, it was basic yet pleasant. So 2017 now and I finally decided to buy it LOL cuz I wanted to remember the scent that got stuck in my head but wasn't too crazy for it to buy it. I instantly smiled when I sprayed it. YES! I still like it. It is def borderline 90s to me, ya know most 90s perfumes were 'dusty' florals mainly with rose. But you get the fruit here too, adds a modern twist and saves it. I get the tangerine, the rose and some apple. I like the opening for sure, also sillage is good. I wear it when im out running errands no makeup and in sporty attire. Beware its an oldie and cheap quality so it might go bad in the bottle. Mine is headed there so ill try to use it up before it starts to smell like sour dust lol (thats what perfumes gone bad smell to me like.)

The description of light pink scent is exactly that. I just got this and all I can add is that, this is a serene, dusty, peaceful rose. It's calming and I love the dusty smell. It takes me away to an attic in an old abandon home. The memories of people you might not even know hurl about as you move objects and stir the dust, at the same time, smelling a fragrant rose bush from outside the broken window drift in. This is a very faint rose and it's a great addition to any collection because the bottle and box alone are worth having. This isn't a diamond and will never shine, but it's sparkle brings a smile as genuine as a dime store bargain.

This perfume has a very pleasant scent. I agree with previous reviewer - it's very simple (in a good way). I can smell red apples, morning rose and some peaches. It's very clean, light and delicate. This perfume definitely worth the money I paid. Great for spring and summer. Very feminine and airy. It is a light pink scent (if you know what I mean). :) I'd recommend it to buy for young women. You will not be disappointed.

I really like this one. The rose mingles very well with the tangerine and cedar to make a soft but very noticeable scent.I also love the way the jasmine and freesia smell together in this scent. The sillage and longevity are great and so is the price. It makes me curious about the rest of them including the original. Great blind buy!

it smells very similar to Dior`s Jadore,average lasting power

It's pretty amazing to me that you can purchase a full 3.3oz bottle of this eau de parfum for about $15. If you like rose scents, you really need to get it. The opening is all roses and apple, then after drydown it's rose, fruit, peach and a hint of musk. Pretty good sillage and longevity as well. A pleasantly complex surprise!

This smells like a light version of Nanette Lepore (pink bottle) this is more subtle, light & airy. A nice inoffensive sweet scent. Lasting power actually pretty good. Sillage O.K. If you like Nanette Lepore why not give it a try.

This perfume is pleasant but somehow it smells like Febreeze on me. I just bought it from Amazon today along with Rose Noire but I'll return both unfortunately.

A little upset due to purchasing it at a mall and the price was way more than the ones online. I really like the scent on me, it is simple and refreshing. .
