Gentleman Cologne

We all know how it is with “Cologne”s. They dazzle you with their bright fresh uplifting openings, and then they vanish into thin air leaving you begging for more. This is no different. Gorgeous, bright, clean opening that thanks to the Iris smells unique and interesting among fresher scents, fresh yet refined, with very little alcohol hit. Smells high quality. Hard to say a bad word about the opening really, it’s so so nice to smell. This soon transitions to a more subdued and not quite so exciting (though still pleasant, could be worse) base note that hangs around as a skin scent for a while. It’s probably quite un-exciting for most fragrance enthusiasts, but I imagine most average people will still think it smells good. Wouldn’t have minded if the Iris stuck around a bit longer personally. Prada L’Homme carries it deep into the dry down so it’s definitely possible, and that alone would have taken this fragrance to another level. Almost a masterpiece... so close... Still, it’s a fantastic dumb-reach office fragrance. It’s become my go to “white Tshirt fragrance” for when I just want something simple and clean and pleasant to wear around the house and my wife personally loves it on the opening and through the drydown, so for me, I’m glad to own a bottle. Also the bottle itself is gorgeous, love that white cap and label, just looks so nice sitting on a shelf. You can find this discounted a lot these days and I think for a cheaper price (I found it £40 for 100ml), it’s a fantastic little mood-lifter and day freshener. Makes me smile each time I spray it on. Don’t be overly put off by the bad performance (after all it never stopped us all buying and loving D&G The One, Mugler Cologne or Dior Homme Cologne did it...?), I would definitely recommend giving it a try/sample if you haven’t already... if for nothing else, just for that gorgeous, gorgeous opening.

Light, airy & comfortable fragrance for Gentlemen. Inoffensive and pleasing though that individual(s) will have to be pretty close to catch a whiff of this scent. We'll put together fragrance that just announces a freshness that is very welcoming. To my nose it has that slight clean iris with a citrus nuance at the top that as it dries down gives me an aromatic flair from the Rosemary combined with a woody musky vibe that is smooth. Maybe 45 mins to an hour of soft projection then a total skin scent for about 5-6 hours on a good day. My Mrs gets very light smells of it after an 8-9 hour work day on occasion so, body temp & skin ph may have something to do with that. I go completely anosmic to it within a couple of hours but, it has teeth and lingers on skin for some time. It really is a beautiful fragrance that encapsulates linen pants & shirt vibe having a light brunch or casual dinner date out in the opening at a favorite bistro on a nice warm evening. Great for the office as it won't permeate to another's nose where you might catch a side eye (I can give 2 craps if it offends or not) from those that are sensitive to fragrances. If I were to stay exclusively to the Givenchy Gentleman line up, it would be Gentleman Cologne, Gentleman Intense & Gentleman Boisee. These 3 would cover a Man year round with class, taste & sophistication....

Givenchy continues to impress with another solid release in the Gentleman lineup, one that pays homage to the classical concept of men's eau de cologne. Much like last year's Gentleman EDP, this cologne is drastically different from the 1974 original and the 2017 re-release. Gentleman Cologne is incredibly light, green, and fresh. It brings into perfect balance fresh citrus, powdery iris, and aromatic rosemary. Every note is entangled in a dance: the simple and airy composition allows every element to shine through, none overpowering the other. Following a fairly linear scent progression, a woody ambroxan/vetiver base with a tea note gently reveals its presence. With a lot of eau de colognes released recently, the aldehydic/citrus facet is overplayed and goes into cleaning product/air freshner territory. Gentleman Cologne completely avoids this issue; it's unbelievably smooth, an extremely safe wear for men of any age in the warmer weather. Not groundbreaking by any means, but a flawless execution nonetheless. Despite carrying the name of cologne, this is an EDT concentration. But, as expected for this kind of scent, longevity is not the best (4-5 hours) and projection is quite soft. Carry a decant and reapply if you want to smell fresh all day.

Amazing blind buy! Get it while you can! Off the top, I get a bright and juicy bergamot note with a floral component from the petitgrain and iris. As it dries down, the citrus loses just a little bit of its potency, and it reveals a fairly standard but very pleasant floral/woody dry down. Even though it's just a citrus fragrance, it actually has a surprising amount of depth. Sometimes I get florals. Sometimes I get citrus. Sometimes I get soap. Sometimes I even pick up a green tea or bamboo note. It's just a wonderfully crafted fragrance. Also, don't worry about the ambroxan note if you're not a fan. It's basically only there to lay down a solid foundation for the rest of the notes to sit on top off. It doesn't smell like a woody shower gel. It just smells clean. The same thing applies to the iris note. It's not waxy, just fresh. Overall Score: 9/10 Strong Blind Buy Recommendation! I'm pretty harsh when it comes to giving scores, so a 9/10 is actually really good. It's nothing terribly unique, but the citrus, iris, and green notes are blended to near perfection. Performance is really the only negative (it's extremely weak), but I don't really care about that. Based on scent alone, this has instantly become one of my favorite fragrances ever.

So happy we got another day in the 90’s so I could wear this gem one more time before the freshie season comes to a close. This stuff has a GREAT opening! That is essentially what this is all about, and let me tell you it nails it. Fresh, clean Iris with some light citrus and that greenish/white pettigrain...it’s just such an uplifting scent in the opening alone that it justifies the purchase of the bottle. Others have said it, and it’s true. This is not a beast, nor should it be. Not everything has to punch people in the face or last for 3 business days. This lasts as long as it should, maybe a little less. Dry down is nothing more than a clean smelling skin scent, sometimes I can pick up just a a touch of that Iris lingering. After 3 hours, I can’t pick up much of anything a have to spray again, which I don't mind at all, because as I said...one of the best, most uplifting openings in men’s fragrance, and all without much complexity whatsoever. I spray this now and then, on my arm, on my hand, when I just need a little something to boost my spirits. Do yourself a favor and at least put your nose on this to see for yourself!

Very nice spring / summer scent. This is one of those fragrances that's way nicer in the air than directly on skin. When I smell up close on skin, it smells very dry because I mostly pick up on the petitgrain and vetiver. But when it wafts through the air it smells very, very nice and balanced. A bit of sweetness from the bergamot and lemon, with hints of petitgrain, vetiver, and iris coming through. I do get the similarity to Lalique White, because the very first time I sprayed this it immediately came to mind. But after a few minutes the similarities are gone. Lalique White has that lemon leaf note, along with the pepper and cedarwood that dominate the life of it. Gentleman Cologne is a much smoother fragrance, but I feel it leans slightly unisex because it doesn't have much spiciness or a woody component. Longevity is average and sillage may be a bit below average, so you'll have to spray heavily or carry a decant with you to reapply. Overall I'd give it a 7.5/10. Solid fragrance and easily a "dumb reach" in the spring and summer, especially spring.

When it comes to Givenchy, it is impossible to go wrong. I was in need of a perfect, sharp-citrus fresh scent. 'Gentleman Cologne' gives positive and clean vibes; the excellent amount of citrus mixed with vetiver and a hint of rosemary. I was so happy to have bought this, since it was a blind buy. I own much of the Gentlemen Only line-up and was very pleased with each of them, I knew 'Gentleman Cologne' would not disappoint. One of my most cherished Givenchy colognes, I love to use it after a shower or for a cold sunny day out. I actually wear this on colder days rather than warm, the petitgrain and iris notes blend a lot better and won't smell too sticky together. It's moderately strong, which is exactly what I was looking for; great projection for about two to three hours, then becomes a nice musky vapor scent while remaining true to its original form. It will last for most of the day without any hesitation.

I absolutely adore this scent!! I can't say the same for everyone, but this fragrance evokes some deep memories of my childhood; specifically from my mother. It does have a slight makeup vibe, obviously provided by the iris, but it's a clean iris with so much more to it! It starts off with a bright blast of citrus, which only sticks around for about 30 min, after which quickly transitions to the iris and a backbone of rosemary with a slight tinge of vetiver lingering in the composition. The drydown comes off soft, classy and billowy from the musk and ambrox. It's quite a unique fragrance for what it is, and can be worn in just about every occasion, barring any super cold weather. Front to back, I enjoy just about every aspect of this fragrance and I'm so glad I was able to pick one up before stock has run out (apparently discontinued). Try it if you can, but I can almost guarantee it will not offend anyone!,

A cross of Varvatos Artisan Pure and Escentric Molecules and even Atelier Iris Rebelle. Reminds me of Artisan Pure most obviously for the citric/petitgrain vibe with a sweet/soft (almost carrot-like) vibe that I get from Iris Rebelle. I see the likening to Escentric Molecules. This is Givenchys best summer offering for men imo and my best designer purchase this summer. A safe blind buy for the summer; citrusy with petitgrain off the top into light musk/vetiver at the end. If youve considered this slightly generic, it might be for the hint of ambroxan which I actually find very attractive. If Dior Sauavge was to have a summer/neroli-ish flanker it might smell kinda like this. EDIT: This has been the best release imo for the Spring/Summer of 2019 EDIT2: Its December...not really meant as a winter scent and yet Im still absolutely loving this scent. One of the designer scents that makes my top 10.

انيق رائع مبهر جذاب جميل باهي منعش لطيف رهييييب.. يا جمال ويا روعة هذا العطر، حقيقة الرائحة جداً جميلة، فيه شيء يشدني تجاه هذا العطر، يسبب ادمان.. العطر باختصار، حمضي حمضي حمضي عشبي بالإضافة إلى الأيريس أو سوسن، من يحب العطور الحمضية الصيفية مع لمسة ايريس هذا العطر هو العطر المناسب.. يقولون الزين ما يكمل، أنا شخصياً ما عندي مشكلة مع الاداء المتوسط، ٤-٥ ساعات راضي فيها جداً، لكن هذا العطر صادم في الثبات والأداء، ساعتين ٣ ساعات بالكثير ويختفي، لا يقلل من جمال الرائحة ابداً، ولكن نقول عن العطر أن اداءه ضعيف لأن اداءه ضعيف رغم حبي له، ألاحظ في الحر الشديد فوحان العطر أفضل نوعاً ما.. العطر كرائحة بالنسبة لي جميل جداً، وسعره مقبول جداً، وهو عطر كباقي العطور بالنسبة لي للاستمتاع الشخصي، من يبحث عن أداء وحشي أنصحه يبتعد عن هذا العطر، ومن يبحث عن عطر رائحته مميزة جميلة وجذابة، هذا العطر هو العطر الذي يستحق أن تقتنيه وتضيفه لمجموعتك.. يستحق التجربة وفي نظري يستحق الشراء وبجدارة..

Think I may have found my summer scent for 2019. This cologne version is actually very good. I've criticised the last 2 gentleman releases. The EDT is dominated by pear and the rich vanilla in the EDP is too sickly and cloying. Im not a fan of overbearing lemon but givenchy got it just right in this. The combination of the other notes are just fantastic and help to prevent things from getting too citrusey. I love that this has iris in aswell, a note im becoming more and more a fan of. Some people would say the ambroxan in this is unnecessary but we all know ambroxan extends the life span of a fragrance, but again it dosent dominate the dry down like in some other frags "cough cough, sauvage" The balance of this juice is perfect. Refreshing, invigorating, sexy and inviting. In my opinion the best release of the new class of gentleman. 8.8/10

Used to like it. Now I am doing clearing in my collection and just tried this in a very hot day. Beautiful opening with lots of interesting citruses plus some green nuances with it. The some iris appears ever so slightly with some woody aromatic vetiver, and then the AMBROXAN is talking over... And that’s it with my interest. Not interested in paying £40 for 50ml, having 3-4 hours of longevity and smelling like let’s say Versace Man Eau Frauche which I bought for £32 for 100 ml and lasts double time and it’s not that ambroxan heavy. Overall this could be an amazing fragrance if they amplified the iris a bit more, put some different notes instead of this heavy ambroxan and made it longer lasting. Wouldn’t give it more than 6/10. And honestly, at least one point is coming just because I love iris accord .

The house of Givenchy seems to never disappoint, here we have another beautiful fragrance from the house. Givenchy Gentleman Cologne is a most have for spring and summer, very versatile, compliment getter for sure, very natural smelling, smooth, high quality ingredients “no alcohol blast” this is one that everyone would enjoy including niche lovers like my self. The only complaint I have with it, is the longevity which is very poor on that aspect. You will need to spray heavy if you want longevity, that been said it’s versatile easy going you could dress it up or casual, 5 to 7 sprays give me about 6 hours, projection is about 1/5 to 2 hours, it sits close to your skin people would need to get close to you to smell it.

Beautiful green citrusy fresh cologne. The opening reminds me of a Mexican green (cucumbery?) agua, very refreshing, and then it dries to a somewhat powdery and mildly soapy (musky?) green freshness. It does dry down quickly though, and rapidly becomes a skin scent. I see some people are reminded of Encre Noire Sport, but to me ENS has a much more bitter afterscent, whereas GGC has a little sweetness at the end to balance the opening citrus greenness (which is certainly a little bitter). Also, the aquatic notes of ENS, which help give it a much welcomed lightness, are entirely absent from GGC. Can't wait to wear it in the spring! (And to overspray it, several times during the day!)

Absolutely fantastic summer scent. Original and daring in its category. Citrus cologne style is elevated here with grassy, almost carrot-like, clean vetiver and of course gentle floral iris. In a way I see this as modernized DNA of Eau Sauvage. If I could pick only one cologne for summer, this would be it. A true modern classic for a gentleman. In case you cannot find it the closest fragrance would be Lalique White. It gets you similar feel, but White is more spicy and you get more green petitgrain. There is also Gentleman EdT from 2017. But that one is much sweeter, but it keeps the fresh iris. I hope we get another fresh release from this line.

This does not have weak performance. I get a good 7 to 8 hours, for a summer fragrance that is a cologne concertration, that is brilliant. I get whiffs of this throughout the day. The opening is beautiful, further into the dry down I get the IRIS, that lipstick vibes. The packaging and bottle design are beautiful and fit the fragrance composition. The IRIS in this is smooth and good quality. It's a must have in my opinion. Scent 10/10 Sillage 7/10 Projection 7/10 Longevity 7/10 Versatility 10/10 Packaging/bottle 10/10 Value 9/10 Season to wear is Spring and Summer. One word to describe this fragrance - summer..

I really do enjoy this perfume and its so suitable for the hot and humid weather where I live. The citrusy opening reminds me of Lush's Dad's Garden Lemon Tree which is a linear citrus+petitgrain scent. Bought Givenchy Gentleman Cologne because firstly I always enjoy such fresh citrus scent on a hot weather it feels so thirst quenching. And secondly I love the clean sleek look of the bottle design. Thirdly, iris. Longevity is definitely and issue here I couldn't agree more which is why I bring this bottle with me when it's the scent of the day to respray and overspray. :)

Having got the rather excellent edp for winter, i thought i would try this for summer. I am a fan of Dior Homme and ithe iris note. I think it an excellent summer daytime scent. A quality citrus and a clean iris note, like prada lhomme is without the soap or lipstickiness of DH. This is sitting in the shade of a lemon tree with the smell of sweet pea wafting by. So I am very happy with the purchase. For a summer daytime fragrance its 7.5/10 (added 0.5 for not having aquatic notes). Ps, longevity is 8+ hrs and you keep getting citrus mixed with iris for most of it.

It starts off soapy citrusy with notes of Petitgrain and bergamot. One minute later, the Iris shows his facet giving a little bit of powderiness and elegance. At one hour mark, the Iris almost disappears and rosemary takes the position giving a aromatic vibe. The drydown brings a little bit of Ambroxan. Just to support the whole composition. It gives a Mugler cologne vibe sometimes. I really like it. It has great performance for a freshie and brings some nice elements to the table. Have to try a little bit more but first impressions are very positive.

This is gonna be my #1 summer freshie for the year. Magical opening and then the end!! If you are kinda guy who appreciates smell and can buy a poor performing frag just for the scent then this is a gem. It is refreshing and a work of art, the citrus is really nice. I checked the perfumer as soon as i first sniffed it and no surprises there it is Olivier Cresp. The god of citrus himself. Really nice uplifting summer fragrance. i do not get any vetiver but there is musk in dry down which is nice. Can be bought definitely for the scent alone.

More of a sophisticated summer fragrance. It has that lemon scent, but has more depth and the Woody base comes thru after Abit to combine with the lemon that makes it more masculine and pleasant. Not just heavy lemon and citrus scents that wear off quick or make you smell like a household cleanser a day. A 10/10 for me. Maybe could last longer, but summer frags seem harder to get longevity out of without those deep Woody, leather, heavier ingriediants. I find just carrying an automizer around for a refresher thru day works better any way.

NICE! Powdery citrus up front for an excellent opening. So Clean! Dries down to a light, powdery iris that's also excellent. Performance with 6-8 sprays was disappointing with endurance waning as early as 4 hours. Around 6 hours later ... nothing. Projection and sillage are also moderate at best. Still, this smells so good it's worth a respray or leaving it for shorter outings. A very safe blind buy, especially if you like clean, light powdery citrus and iris.

Got this on a whim... I agree with the other reviews that the opening is outstanding. You go nose blind to the smell after a while, but the dry down is equally lovely. This doesn't last more than 5 hours, but that covers most situations. If you are looking for a green summer scent this is your stuff. I almost get pear in the opening, but it isn't a note. Maybe it is grass with citrus? This is a great alternative to Aqua di Gio or Y...

Fresh burst of a very high quality fragrance to start. Petitgrain and neroli together and maybe with some crushed waxy iris ❤️.Then gradually becomes a slight woody musky scent. A prefect fragrance to wear during the daytime without being loud. Stays on a hydrated skin for a decent duration. 4 to 5 hrs .Overall a great quality Cologne in edt concentration for the summers.Ideal for office and causal settings.

Really love the bright and lovely citrus blast at the start! It's a pity it disappears in 15 mins, how I wish it could last a little longer. The vetiver and musk are nice but it's nothing too extraordinary. Overall, you need to go crazy with the sprayer (10-15 sprays) on skin and clothes to have a full experience of this beautiful fragrance.. i.e. you need to find yourself the biggest bottle on the shelf.

Spring! Easter! Everything in Bloom! To me, this is very specifically an 'April' scent as opposed to a full blown 'spring' scent. Can be worn casually or dressed up...if, say, you were going to a garden party. If you enjoy scents that evoke a certain feeling and if one of those feelings you want to evoke is a pastel bloom in a large country yard on Easter, give this flanker a try.

It's beautiful, a complete knock out very unique. Think of a Caribbean vacation in a bottle. The wife loves the stuff. You can rock this anywhere and it will not be offensive. This is a modern masculine scent. Projection isnt the best but its not terrible either. Don't mix this up with the OG Gentleman Cologne that stuff will grow hair on your chest! The Gent approves 10/10!

Sublime opening with a note of pencil shavings, citrus and musk, I'd give it a comfortable 10/10 opening......but it doesn't last too long and then settles down to a vetiver musk with hints of wood. One of my top 5 , if they could have made the dry down as good as the opening then it would remain a 10/10 but as the dry down and longevity suffers then I'll give it a 8.5/10.

I absolutely adore this fragrance. It smells like Dior Homme cologne mixed with the original Dior Homme with the iris toned down. It's so fresh, but it's also seductive. This fragrance isn't very original, but the lipstick iris will always make me happy! Longevity and projection isn't the best, but I don't mind carrying a decant with me, or re-spraying.

This is a banger for me. Yes, it might not have good projection and might not last that long, but my goodness I have to come for a whiff of my wrist every time I can. I actually feel like I get more of the aromatics than the citruses but never feels unbalanced. I got for $48 or something like that so, I definitely am extra happy about my purchase.

Bought this to replace my L'Homme Ideal cologne, and while they are similar I'm leaning much more towards this one. Performance isn't great and neither is longevity, but as a fresh, clean and very elegant summer cologne it is really beautiful. For the very low price I paid, I'll be happy applying this a few times daily during the warmer months.

Best spring/summer fragrance release in past year so far. Well done givenchy!!! Do bit like other gentleman released bit this od summertime monster. Gentle and pleasant. Lasts very long on my skin. Something new and could je also god matere man 35-45. For Real gentleman in white suite and casual. Iris is very unoffensive and light. 10/10

I remember when i bought this, I was so disappointed because of the poor performance. Yesterday however I tried it in the heat in Spain and THIS WORKS! It performed well for 6-7 hours. Giving me a super fresh and comforting aura around me. Love it now. Sadly is veen discontinued and now they released a feminine society flanker 🤬

Unobtrusive blast of freshness in your face with hint of sweetness. Ambroxan is very subdued here so those who hate aquatic sea salt (like me) will enjoy this very much. Doesn't project loudly but that's not a complaint. Perfect scent for summer office, especially when weather is 90F+ degree (30C for the rest of the World).

Awesome fragrance! Great fresh opening (very similar to Dior Homme Cologne) which develops into a very pleasant dry down. perfect warm weather option. works equally well at play as in the office, but not really a night time option. Agree with others on weak performance, but the scent makes it worth getting.

Lively citrus opening drying to a musky, powdery iris. Hot weather, daytime, white linen shirt etc etc. Performance isnt great so expect to respray but I really like this, £40 for 100ml is decent value. Versace Eau Fraiche 'feel' but lifted by the zest/sparkle up front. 4/5

Sniffed it at Bloomingdales I love this fragrance. Pettigrain, iris, vetiver and ambroxan is the scent. Its light but not super light. I'm gonna pick this up out of all the three gentleman fragrances this is probably my favorite.gonna pick up a bottle .ASAP!

i’ve been rocking this masterpiece! the opening is beautiful clean fresh very easy to wear . it’s discontinued now so i have a backup. i’m waiting for the spring and summer to wear this more often works great with me , i get 7 hours on my skin maybe more .

A citrus with substance. Supported with an iris heart, this discontinued gem is basically a simple twofold scent. Bright citrus notes play against the floral background throughout the entirety of the fragrance. Get a bottle if you still can find one.

One of the most unique freshies I own. It performs like a freshie. If you love Iris like I do, get your nose on this stuff. The Pettigrain shines up top with the citrus then that Iris comes in as it dries down. A perfect office scent as well.

A masterpiece when it comes to the actual scent I prefer it over both the original and the edp which i both own and it really is very fresh and citrusy But the disaster is the longevity 15 sprays and it couldn’t stay there for the third hour

Absolute banger. Great office freshie, bitter dry citrus and smooth Iris. I think the vetiver and musk mixed with the Petitgrain is what sets it off. So dang good, my bottle is half empty and I’m sad I won’t be able to replace it. 😢

Amazing scent and ridiculous longevity and projection... From Givenchy have to refund all of us who bought this fragrance... Very very very disappointed... How you can create so amazing summer fragrance and completely ruin it 😤😤😤

well, uplifting citrusy cologne for spring/summer as we all know it already. but the hint of rosemary, i guess, gives it a different twist for a while. 10/10 soundtrack: mahler - adagietto (from the 5th), von karajan version.

Oh yes, when the weather gets really sticky, dirty and hot and you still have to perform, this one is perfect. - Oh ja als het echt klam vies en benauwd warm weer wordt en je moet toch presteren is deze perfect.

I am wearing this at the moment and can't stop enjoying how the lovely sillage moves around me 🤤 Well... Better enjoy it cus it won't last for long 😓 Unfortunately can't get lot of longevity and performance ....

Very fresh and light scent. Reminds me very much of Banana Republic Linen Vetiver. Very similar and I think BR might last longer too. Still, this is a great freshie with the performance as expected for its use.

A fantastic gentleman's cologne 😍. Heat makes this beauty perform much better. Watery fresh and woody making it suitable for most of the day settings. Overall 9/10

so they discontinued this outstanding fresh and original gem, but keep releasing every year another sugarsweet cold weather flanker. world gone mad.
