Purple Suede

Purple Suede was launched in 2022, and its fragrance was created by perfumer Ilias Ermenidis (DSM-Firmenich). It translates into olfactory form the aromatic landscape of Tasmanian lavender fields warmed by the sun, reinterpreting this classic ingredient from a contemporary and surprising perspective. Purple Suede is part of the Exclusive Collection called Botanical Series and is the second creation in this line, following the iconic Silky Woods, which inaugurated the proposal to highlight Australian botanical raw materials under a sophisticated and modern approach. And it's worth remembering: it has a 25% concentration and also comes in a bottle created by the master glassmakers of La Glass Vallée (France), lacquered in 24K gold, as a tribute to the Australian Gold Rush. It's pure luxury! Purple Suede is classified by the company as a leather-floral perfume, and to that end, notes of pink pepper, lavender, leather, Indonesian patchouli, civet, oud, moss, cashmeran, and amber were combined. I have recently found out that I really like leather / suede fragrances. I love Tom Ford's Ombrè Leather (both EdP and Parfum) and Tuscan Leather, and I also adore Marc-Antoine Barrois' Encelade and Ganymede. Purple Suede by Goldfield & Banks is really, really nice as well, and I find the addition of lavender quite original. All these leather / suede fragrances get quite sweet on my skin and I find them very elegant and comforting at the same time, but also with quite some character. On my skin, the lavender in Purple Suede is quite subtle and delicately powdery, it is definitely stronger on clothes, but not overpowering. This fragrance, in my opinion, can be worn all year round, with exception of very hot weather, and it is perfect for both work and more formal / elegant events. I am a woman, and I think this is perfectly unisex, as the others I have mentioned above. I understand that for some people these can pull more to the masculine side, but do not overlook them as women, since the smell can be different on men and women and, in my case, they become quite sweet on my skin, while they smell definitely less sweet and more leathery on my husband. Last, I do not find any of these scents to be animalic. The civet here is certainly contributing in making the smell sweeter, but I cannot say it smells animalic or skanky.

My 3rd favorite ( beside silky woods & sunset hour) from the brand! Gorgeous, smooth, musky & powdery almost photorealistic suede which is animalic but possibly in the best deep & sensual way. And this tender suede note is gently surrounded & embraced by lavender which with the soft feathery-powdery musk ( and a hint of aromatic and also purple hyssop) turns the scent into hazy dusty mauve color. The additional woody notes in the background are beautiful. They supply a deep warm dark brown (oud) and soft taupe (cashmeran) base for mauve color. The cashmeran is warm, snug & wool like, whilst the divistive Oud what is often could be really opressive or sometimes a harsh note, well here it isn't that. It's still potent, and prominent in a gentle, deep & heavenly balsamic way. And It doesn't supress the other notes, instead of that it just accompany attends hand-in-hand the other notes. And gives majestic warm almost opaque aura to the composition. A very impressive, ( in my personal opinion one of the best) sofisticated & delicate leather fragrance !<3 It's totally unisex! But i'm surprised about gender votes here, because feel that it slightly lays on the feminin side. But it's just my very personal opinion. :D

Purple Suede is a well blended and very smooth leather scent. On my skin, Purple Suede opens with dry lavender and sparkling pepper, with a minty nose feel. There are gentle, savory spices here, in addition to the pepper, that add complexity and interest. The scent warms up and becomes drier, half-way to pleasantly acrid, as the main accord of leather is built by woody aromachemicals. The leather here is a familiar construct, but smelling much more refined/natural compared with something like Ombré Leather. The leather has a dry tobacco quality that is warm, woody, earthy and rounded. Along with the fading lavender, the overall impression is somewhat masculine to me, yet fairly restrained & well blended. Purple Suede offers a smoothed and refined experience of leather, not as loud or aggressive compared to most. I feel like this could be an unisex leather that ladies might like to wear on a night out, or a more polite daytime leather for a man who might favor heavier, skankier leathers after work. This is a very beautiful and elegant smell. The overall energy is quite calming and grounded. Purple Suede should definitely be sampled, and, along with Silky Woods, one of the best releases from Goldfield & Banks.

First of all, a mistake to compare it to TF leathers. And i am glad that it is different. Second, I think people are focussing to much on the leather. This is a masterpiece, the beauty is in this lavender/smoke dry airy note. not the leather aspect that so many are placing as focus. website description: "An olfactory imagination expressing the scent of aromatic fields of sunburnt lavender, where blossoms are crisped by the fierce heat of the sun. " This sunburnt dry air is simply breathtaking, its so imaginary stimulating. The suede/leather oud/civet accord makes this niche and the icing on the cake. If you cant appreciate it..... Good more exclusive for the real lovers. But if you want to sample be mindfull of the unique experience you are getting.

I love this. It has some similar DNA to Silky Woods but it's bolder, stronger and more masculine, yet with a juicy, floral edge rather than the sweet muskiness of Silky Woods. This one doesn't change much on me as I wear it. For the first few hours it's strong leather and lavender/floral notes. After that the florals wear off and it's mostly leather. Definitely smells like you're sitting in a new leather interior car with a floral air freshener. Reminds me a bit of my favourite men's scent, Dior Fahrenheit! This one is long-lasting and has strong projection. It's masculine-leaning, but the right woman can definitely pull this off. I actually find it quite nice for the summer because it has a certain "juiciness" to it that makes it refreshing. Especially nice when it's a hot sunny day outside but you're sitting inside in the air conditioning. What can I say? If you love leather you'll love this.

I think the best way to describe this scent is cool. And I mean like a cool breeze (which I realize is ironic given the description from the house). Only on the last of the dry-down does this get warm. Also this does not get animalic on me. I’ve used civet heavy perfumes and this is nowhere close. It is super lavender heavy, so if that’s not your deal, do not buy. It’s quite prominent throughout. The suede and leather are, as everyone says, very smooth and silky. This smells unisex to me, and is floral enough I think you could wear it year round... but maybe leans a touch more cold weather. My warning: this scent is nuclear. One spray on my chest and I can easily smell it 8 hours later. I literally try to not use a full spray. I rated it good value because at 100ml, I will never get through the bottle. Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede is a 2022 release that is part of the botanical series (that also includes Silky Woods and Island Lush), an aptly-named suede-centric fragrance that has sweet, dark, and floral qualities, conjuring its purple name. It’s rich and smooth, easy to wear despite being very interesting, with a lot of nuance, like resinous and slightly smoky touches, all with a bit, but not too much sweetness. Additional notes include lavender, pink pepper, patchouli, and oakmoss. Purple Suede, as with the rest of the Botanical Series, is priced at $240/47 for 100/10ml, so not cheap, but I find it’s very nice to have a 10ml option for both a more extended trial and for travel, so props to the brand for that. It’s sold at boutiques like Perfumology and Luckyscent that carry the brand. 8 out of 10

The opening of this one is completely herbal -- more than just the lavender listed. Then it gives way to heady florals with a strong green note. I don't detect leather or powder like many mention. There is a sort of ambery background, but it's mainly just floral and green. I think this is one of the prettiest Goldfield and Banks I've experienced. Every time I wear it, my husband asks what it is (a rarity for him), and I love the scent it's left behind on my clothes, which is a soft ambery floral. I currently have just a sample, but I'm sure this is going to end up having to be a rare full-bottle purchase for me.

This morning I poured a whole vile of Purple Suede from LuckyScent on me. Not sure why this is marketed as a woman’s fragrance when it’s more of a masculine scent. It’s very good though, I love it. I own Ombré Leather and I do see some facets of that fragrance in this one. This one is softer and lighter, more smooth. The lavender is an interesting touch. It lasted most of the day and I could smell it on myself all day too. What a gorgeous dry down. Going to buy a full bottle once my ombré leather is empty, which will be soon, I like this more.

I didn’t think I would like this fragrance but man this stuff is good. The oud and animalic notes are likeable, not very screechy and loud. The feeling this gives me is elegance, buttery smooth, masculine, musky, a little musty basement scented masterpiece. For me it doesn’t wear heavy at all (I assume because of the lavender and hyssop) perfect for more professional events or even everyday winter/fall wear. I just received my sample today and I'm enjoying this so far. At first sniff, it's quite heavy on the oud and leather, but the oud is sweet and not skanky. After a few minutes the lavender and a faint floral note that I'm unfamiliar with come into play. Longevity is good, as is projection. I agree with Raffi below (or maybe it's the power of suggestion) that there does seem to be a slight hint of Dior Fahrenheit in the dry down. It's far too hot where I live to wear this right now, but look forward to wearing this more in the autumn.

I have been looking for a lavender scent. The top hits you with lavender and fruit. It’s got a damp side to it, but also a flowery quality due to the lavender lead. It settles into leather over anything else. I find it pretty addictive to smell. On a personal note, it’s not one I think I can pull off, but it’s not one that I will forget. The leather ends up being too much for me, smells like a car, but I can see people absolutely loving this. Edit: I intend to test this again. I think it's a very interesting fragrance.

I’m gatekeeping this beauty which has definitely flown under the radar. Smells nothing like ombré leather, there is nothing like this it’s so unique. I’ve only tested it once so need more time with it as blind bought 100ml, but this is art in a bottle - how the perfumer has managed to create something that smells exactly like the name is mind blowing. It lasts forever too. Avoid getting on clothes as it won’t come off 😂 first impressions - 10/10

I got a sample of Purple Suede, and I didn't know what to expect. After trying it, I love it. This is a very sweet leather which, when combined with lavender transforms into a very very nice perfume. On my skin, cashmeran is king after the main notes (lavender and leather), and kind of "tames" the leather note (which on my skin stays forever). Longevity is very very good, sillage is good too. Big love, and a very nice surprise.

Supple leather, lavender, raisin, vanilla, amber, violet pastille. Cozy dance party, soft but badass, snuggly but playful, sexy, tough, sweet, evocative, fun. 'CEO'? Maybe the nonbinary CEO of a restaurant group but not of the Fortune 500. 'Breezy'? Maybe if the breeze is blowing lavender petals through an urban cemetery in winter. Potent but not synthetic. Lasts and lingers. The name fits. Crushing on this. 9/10.

Such fine perfumery coming out of Australia lately! The mixture of lavender with leather and civet produces a striking accord, both calming and animalic. Although this is unisex, I could particularly imagine this being worn by a lovely mature woman in an authority position wanting to project confidence. The oud adds a nice deepening touch. The drydown is heavenly--this is really a wonderful fragrance.

perfect soft flowery suede, powerful, sexy, luxurious, bold... an instant mood lifter. purple suede is such a perfect name for it too, wearing this while wearing some of my purple suede wardrobe items is.. an experience. just one of my favorite perfumes ever. 100% unisex, I would not call this masculine leaning. does require some maturity from the wearer, would not recommend for anyone under 30

Absolutely beautifully made. Masculine leaning leather suede scent. The lavender does make it smell purplish, hence the name. Very good projection. I own both Tuxedo and this, they do not smell similar at all; zero similarity. This is a delicate balance between an aromatic lavender and a suede leather. It’s great to have a fragrance in this genre with such strong projection. Well done.

Love at first sniff! This captures both the power and gentility embodied in masculinity. A scent that makes me a proud Australian. I get the comparisons to YSL Tuxedo, i happen to own both. This is more darker than Tux! I love how loud this is, you get your money’s worth. It demands good attention in a room. Goldfield & Banks if you are reading this please don’t ever reformulate this!

Purple Suede doesn't get as much hype as tales or silky woods but it should! Its creamy, powdery, floral and an absolute joy to smell. The leather notes don't come through enough for me but there's certainly hints of amber and civet that come in from time to time and the agarwood runs like a bass in the background. There's definitely similar vibes to this and perfect oud by mizensir

This really nails the 'lavender drying under a hot sun' deal. Does not read as feminine at all which I love in a lavender I must say! Very soft and smooth leather - doesn't read as very animalic to me and works with the lavender to create the impression of a sunburnt lavender field. Despite that outdoorsy description it can easily be worn at a fancy indoor event.

Purple Suede is a stunning, smooth, musky, and distinctly masculine fragrance. I have only a sample, but it has been a remarkable find. The blend of oud, leather, civet, lavender, cashmeran, and amber notes is masterful, resulting in a seamless floral suede aroma. It's a sophisticated, elegant, and masculine scent with outstanding performance and longevity.

Sweet lavender syrup poured over leather like a hot wax. A fair bit of animalic touches to it too. First time I sniffed it gave immediate associations to Ombré Leather Parfum which I own. Also has something reminiscent of Tuxedo, but really it’s doing its own thing. Strong, long lasting, but somewhat limited in wearability.

This is the sexy woman at the bar with the great hair and leather jacket smiling at you. This is the knight in shining armor. This is the CEO with the suit and leather briefcase. It lasts forever and it doesn't take much to feel like you are the most powerful person in the room. It is confidence in a bottle.

Lovely fresh and tart opening of a green resinous pine cone. It’s refreshing but still has a rich and deep base with warm woods (cashmeran and oud) and leather softened with some sweetness from amber. This is a very gentle leathery and oudy scent. Not an Oriental one. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Tried it today,and love it!It has that little funk that i love in the perfumes,i love that little twist that separates it from some middle of the road releases.The composition is very well blended and oud and leather work very well,together...i’m very close to buy a fb.Great stuff.

If the color purple had a masculine smell - this would be it. Damn, this is a really good fragrance. This is my first bottle of G&B. I feel like this is the first time I can actually smell every note on paper. I love the pissy civet and leathery drydown.

Amazing fragrance! I bought a backup bottle! The fruitiest lavender I ever smelled .. the dry down it becames more smoky leathery , a little bit animalic and the lavender still in the background but less sweet. 10/10 8 hours longtevity

Man, I cannot stop smelling this juice. The blend and performance are excellent. This is a showstopper for me. Suede, Leather, and Lavender. Black tie and formal events worthy. Reasonably priced and worth pulling the trigger.

um, this is not animalic at all?? This is a GROGEOUS fragrance, a sweeter and more playful version of Tuxedo. Definitely smells like purple. Like someone below me said, this just smells like money.

I'm getting Tuxedo mixed with a little bit of Rehab and Althair. Basically a more vanillic, musky, sweet, playful/youthful and feminine Tuxedo. Lasts longer than Tuxedo too

Smells like a dark syrupy/inky sweet oud with some luxurious florals, this smells like money. I do get faint resemblances from tuxedo, this is much more unique though.

This is a nice fragrance. Buttery lavender and polished leather. Smooth and at the same time masculine. Suitable for winters, especially in a formal setup

This is definitely a man’s fragrance. And wow - it smells really good and intense. This is a very bold fragrance and I don’t say this often but probably not for every day wear unless it’s winter. It smells expensive, smooth, all the notes are well blended. I sprayed it on a scent card and it is still so strong hours later so I know the performance in this would go crazy. It smells very middle eastern esque - it reminds me of flying with Oman air but in a good way. It’s dry and smells expensive. The lavender is very well blended and not fresh or aquatic, but rather adding a coldness to the fragrance. The dry down is woody and aromatic, but the oud is blended and not barnyardy. I genuinely love how this smells but I would never wear it as it’s very masculine for me. Wow wow wow... this is so good. If you’re a man looking for a going out/bold/winter fragrance you definitely need to try this.

The name nails it: a dignified, refined suede with a powdery lavender alongside it and many addictive subtle notes in the back to explore. I can see an executive wearing this. You are called into their 60th floor office (so far, the fantasy setting of many men’s designer fragrances) but you note that, yes, they exude wealth and competence, but there is a private aesthete side as well. This person (man or woman) is so comfortable with themselves that they let leak into their corporate identity the fact that they passionately love chamber music, or wine, or Japanese poetry, or whatever. You notice an artifact on the shelf and it comes out in their side remarks. They might feel slightly remote and intimidating but you have to admit the discomfort is on you - this person is a gentleman/woman. I use Purple Suede to scent my much lowlier car, using a clay disc.

Got this today and giving it the initial test drive. The opening is that Tom Ford Ombre Leather but swap the raspberry (yes there's raspberry in OL) with Tasmanian Lavender. I do like it, but that wears off pretty quick & goes into a 'thick' suede-ish leather. In the mids the lavender moves to the background & I get a slight petroleum vibe of Dior's Fahrenheit which feels like it's coming from the leather and civet combo. There is a slight floral nuance here (perhaps the Hyssop Flowers...I don't know what they smell like). There's also some oud in here to beef it up, but it's not the skanky barnyard type, it's the more woody sweet type. Overall not bad, need to give it a proper few wearings to know it more, Thanks to G&B for the free sample

Opens nice and sweet and smoky. The sweetness reminds me a bit of the of the fruitiness uptop in TomFordsTuscanLeather/WidiansLondon/AtelierColognesOudSaphir. The sweetness I do find intensified a little in the opening, but so are the smoky leathery (animalic) notes so they are still somewhat balanced. I find it dries differently depending on skin type. On my friend, the smokiness completely envelopes and it becomes a smoky leather bomb with not much of the other animalic notes. On another individual, they noted it became much sweeter in the dry down. However, on my skin, the smokiness does indeed dominate. Definitely feels niche, worth it if you like smoky fragrances with some sweetness.

Excellent fragrance, the combo of florals, spice and leather makes this an incredibly versatile fragrance. The smell opens with the unmistakable scent of lavender, but of axis just a bit by the inclusion of spices. As it dries down you notice other purple flowers and a berry like sweetness, just before it burns away leaving a powdery leather reminiscent of suede. This is one of the most versatile fragrances that can be worn casually or formally, and with a subdued projection and excellent longevity can last all day or night.

I usually avoid the word interesting because it’s a non descriptor for me, but it’s the word I’ve been I’m muttering to myself throughout the development of this scent. The opening is a bright, spicy lavender, and the dry down is an oily patchouli. It’s a synthetic oil, but it’s super interesting. I’m not inclined to wear this again, but I wouldn’t mind smelling this on a man (sorry to gender this perfume!) for what it’s worth, it’s a manly man smell. A guy who works in an motorcycle shop. Pushing the like button.

Lavender leather with a sort of syrupy sweet, tropical fruity undertone. Easygoing, all-occasions fragrance with a balance between fresh lavender and darker base notes. Reminds me of this lavender-flavored honey I had once where it was this purple goop smeared over my food, except with leather and I'm not eating it. Honestly, I don't have much else to say about it. And despite Fragrantica's note pyramid, officially this doesn't have oud in it. Moderately strong projection for 3-4hr, longevity 10-12hr.

Everytime I smell this and look at the notes I get so confused. Even wonder if they put the correct fragrance in the bottle when it was in production. When i spray it, all i smell is fruity pebbles! It is actually nice. But i dont get anything even slightly resembling suede or leather. Just a really fruity fragrance. I like it and will always keep it. But i am wondering if this is what it is supposed to smell like haha
