White Sandalwood

After reading all of the other reviews, I wondered if I was missing something with this perfume, or if my nose was out of kilter. I've tried this a few times, and have come to really appreciate this fragrance. When it is first sprayed it does have a briny, almost animalic scent, likely from the saffron, thyme and rose. But most of this dissipates fairly quickly, and the floral notes shine through. Then, after a while, the soft, warm, luxurious sandalwood comes out to play. I really think this fragrance needs time to come to its fullest.

On me, the dominant accord here are rose and saffron, with the Australian sandalwood providing a beautiful creamy base for this floral heart. I get very little if any spice and a light amber deep in the drydown to stop things from ever getting to heady. The quality if evident here as it smells very natural and longevity/sillage exceptional. It is unisex with a slight feminine lean. For those who like something like Chanel's Egoiste without the heavy spice, i would recommend.

The saffron, pepper and thyme make this perfume fizz in the top, which keeps it fresh and light. As it dries down, it gets more and more milky/creamy/soft and the rose adds heart in the middle. Anyone can rock this, especially in warmer weather when it really sings, but it's probably a fair analysis to say that it leans more feminine in a Western context. GREAT product quality, beautiful composition, wonderful longevity and moderate-to-heavy sillage.

A ScentXplore sample. Not sure if it's a reformulation as I don't get any of what the past reviewers claim. No leatheriness or soapiness at all. This is soooo sophisticated. The classiest spicy saffron perfume for me with a hint of rose and woodiness. But saffron is all I really get and nothing else, everything else is in the background, woodiness and all. Got compliments straight away, it's just so well blended and unique.

I know the notes are way different but i sprayed this and it reminded me of something... not exact but in the realm el haramain excellent meets adp colonia leather... i know it may sound crazy but thats what I get from it

Oh the smooth sandalwood is divine. I love all G&B frags. Good value for price considering the lasting hours. Quite Aussie smell - unique ingredients and blending. Another local brand to love!

I am in love with this scent! Slightly spicy, slightly sweet and soooo smooth and creamy. Fantastic longevity. I am chasing a decant, so if anyone wants to sell or swap some, hit me up!

I dont hate it, but i dont love it either. Still I cant stop sniffing my wrist. So the whole fragrance is quite intoxicating, opens with a rather punchy dose of saffron and pepper but i cant separate the rose as a note on the whole life of the scent! And I am a rose lover! I think you really need to concentrate to pick up the flower. Then sandalwood comes up and smoothens the fragrance otherwise all over the place. Very soapy and woody. Super vaporous! I think it's a nice white colored scent without white florals, which I am not a fan of generally. A blend of ingredients where you cant pick up the ones, and this is a point where a fragrance gathers interest in my opinion.I dont get any vintage or grandma vibes nor I think its feminine. Unisex and clean. Its a completely different scent but it has some similarities with Lyric Man by amouage, that same freshness obtained without lime which tickles your nosetrills! Interesting! First time i smelled it I really didnt like it but after some months of tries it grew on me!

Goldfield & Banks White Sandalwood is part of the earliest 2016 releases of the house, a robustly sharp and spicy blend with sandalwood at the center, albeit with pungent notes or rose, pepper, and saffron, a borderline savory ensemble that fits together pretty nicely despite being quite intense. White in the sense that it’s sharp and bright, but sort of dark in its layered richness, a very nice blend overall, the combination of notes of which makes it somewhat unique, with a lot more going on than just the sandalwood. It’s predictably a bit sharper and stronger at the opening and bit mellower and smoother as it dries down, but it retains most of the same character after several hours. White Sandalwood is priced like most of the collection, at $190 for 100ml, and sold in the US at boutiques like Perfumology. I think the value is quite good given the performance, uniqueness, and overall craft. 7 out of 10

I get a lot of saffron, some rose, layered over and unconventional woody amber base. Normal wood and amber conjurers a different theme... So far, this reminds me sort of like a soapy lotion perfume type hybrid. Reminds me of MFK Satin Mood. Not challenging on my skin. Being that it is rather unconventional, I can see how some may not like or understand. This thing marches to the beat of it's own drum, and up close it's an real curveball. I have received compliments so the impression in the air must be good or I was lied to. There is a slight hard to identify floral component. Does have a slight resemblance to MFK oud satin mood and Byredo's rose. It really doesn't smell 1x1 like anything else I've tried in perfumery. ------------------------------------------------- Conclusion: Not your typical sandalwood. It's different but pleasant. Another fragrance from G&B that screams high quality . I shouldn't like this but I do . The sandalwood is obviously front and center but the light rose, saffron and thyme mellow it out and give it this powder almost a little creamy characteristic. I don't get much pepper but I catch the bits of amber . If I were to paint a picture this makes me think of being in the middle of a dessert dry grove with a fire going in the middle . Surrounded by dry sandalwood trees. It's a pretty strong scent but it's not nose piercing , it's really smooth . This layered with something that has strong orange would be fantastic. This could be a layering monster . Overall I like it a lot. Compared to the rest of the G&B native collection this one is one of the better performing fragrances. You get a out 2 hours of good projection and it will stick to the skin for about 5.

I think this one is .. ok.. and that’s about it. I do like it myself but will never wear it out again. I can always tell a scent is good if I get a compliment or two but this one felt like it was making people stay away. Probably because it’s a pleasant scent to some and for others, smells like a bathroom. My nose smells spicy sandalwood on the top and the dry down is more like “the cool girl” scent kind of vibe which I liked but that didn’t last long at all. The longevity is crap and thankfully not a large sillage either. I don’t think it’s worth the money at all for the reasons listed above and would instead recommend Desert Rosewood or Bohemian Lime instead (not similar smells to White Sandalwood but the value is better!)

Do not blind buy like I did - but I don’t regret it. Cannot stress how much of an acquired scent this is, with only one compliment in about 10-12 wears. If you’re someone that’s after something that isn’t mass appealing this is great for you. It’s a very nice almost ‘royal’ scent in my experience. Spicy strong opening yet into a quick dry down of a turkish delight rose with soft sandalwood in the background. A lot of people tip this for a summer/spring scent, whereas I believe this would shine in the colder seasons. 8-10 hours longevity with my wears. Smelling it on myself even after a shower. 7/10 - hated too much on, give it some time and get past the opening, the dry down is amazing.

Cooee, this perfume from 'straya is fair dinkum choc a bloc with soapy florals and will have you gobsmacked how much it's just like a platypus who has sussed out whether there are any soft blankets to veg out with. You'll be in a good pozzie and having a ripsnorter, as when it drys down it reminds me of a time that this one sheila and a bloke were looking for a new roomie and considered a copper. Av a go of this one if you would chuck a sickie just to eat some fairy bread at a 30th birthday party. Bloody oath I don't want to rev you up too much, but if you prefer sitting on the patio with a book then you better take a squiz. 8/10.

I do not understand why people hate this fragrance so much. To me, it smells quite pleasant, a good balance of creamy, woody and powdery. It is quite soft and elegant, in my opinion. Definitely a different interpretation of sandalwood. I have never smelled real sandalwood of any kind, either Mysore / Indian or Australian, so I cannot make any comparison, but to me this one smells quite interesting, unique and wearable. I have heard somewhere that in Australia if often chosen by brides and I kind of understand why.

Decant. A rich rose and saffron scent that’s really nicely blended. The rose isn’t over powering or obnoxious. I don’t really get much sandlewood to be honest. The lack of sandlewood makes it a strong floral scent that’s more fenimine than unisex IMHO. I couldn’t see myself wearing it but would love it on my better half. Great feminine fragrance.

Goes from 'sandalwood (oh god what have I bought)' to 'sandalwood! (what an underrated scent!)' pretty quickly. Doesn't smell like real sandalwood, a little more reminiscent of root beer. Sillage and longevity was pretty abysmal for me, and I ended up respraying multiple times throughout the day to keep the scent on at all.

rose sandalwood and a dash of spice. i understand why some feel this rather synthetic, that little spiciness! this is a proud sandalwood, not creamy/lactonic. first timer to the brand, do get their discovery set first. take your time with each vial, they do evolve on the skin differently than in paper strips.

This stuff is STRONG you guys! It fills up my nose with roses and sandalwood immediately. Too much off this gives me a headache. Wear this perfume while sitting in a car for hours and it makes me sick. It’s beautiful but potent. I wish it was more airy and soft instead of a punch in the nose.

Am I nose blind lmao I actually didn't hate this at all. I don't think I'd buy it for myself, as it isn't quite my vibe (I'm more of a girly girl) but I could definitely appreciate this smell.

A blast of leather with a dash of rose and a sprinkle of spice. Not overdone. A good for daytime frag. Able to go anywhere with anyone. Not a stand out but perfectly pleasant.

It’s ok, but not anything to write home about. Very much a clean linen scent in my view, reasonable projection, but just not with enough legs for me. Longevity is average.

This smells like leather, roses, and wood. Heavy on the leather for me. It's very soft too. What a unique combination.

It's OK but much too floral for my tastes. A very feminine interpretation of sandalwood.

Reminds me of Lychee on the dry down (at least on a tester strip).

My sample set just arrived in the mail, and all these reviews had me curious. I had to test this one ASAP to see what the big stink (lol) was about. This seems to have the worst reviews out of the whole line up. The insert describing the perfumes said that the opening of this should be "soft, delicate and bright." It's definitely bright... but i would say it's actually quite sharp and harsh for the first 15 minutes. I sprayed directly on the back of my hand in a fairly cool temperature. To me... it's just a really strong baby wipe / disinfectant wipe. My husband remarked that the sandalwood is giving it the tiniest hint of "beach air" in the background. So we came to the conclusion that this smells like a freshly sanitized bathroom in a beach resort, right after staff had to compensate for a very sick guest that just checked out. Slightly bleachy and ammonia-y, with a little something fresh outside the window (maybe even aldehyde?) The soapiness does fade with time. It's actually not too spicy - thank goodness because I am hyper sensitive / aversive to spicy notes. I think this is actually much more 'cool spicy' than 'warm spicy'. I REALLY have to work to find the fleshiness of the rose and the warmth of the sandalwood. I think because I'm generally hyper sensitive to spices and herbs, all I can pick up on is the aromatic thyme and sharp pepper. Insert says the dry down ought to be; enveloping, powdery and sophisticated... I can sense the powder coming through, and yes I suppose those aldehydes remind of a 'mature' scent for someone older and perhaps more sophisticated. But it's leaving a bit of a cotton-mouth feeling on my tongue and throat. If soapy, aldehydey, aromatic, cool spicy frags are your jam, you'd probably dig this. It's not great, it's not even good. But it's not egregious either. It's just weird. EDIT: after sampling ALL the G&B fragrances, this is the only one that gives me a little hit of salt. Still very soapy and aromatic. It's reminding me of a focaccia bread gone wrong- way too much rosemary & sage and heavy on the salt.

It took me a little more time than usual to make up my mind when sampling White Sandalwood, and that's because it's such a shapeshifter of a scent. My first impression was that it was definitely not for me: the opening is very woody in a rather sour or even pungent way, which is a little startling at first, and very much on the masculine side of unisex as well. Not bad exactly, but far from what I prefer for myself. But soon it settles down into a much softer creation, focused on a lovely saffron note as well as the titular sandalwood, and made sweeter by a very nice rose. At this point I start to enjoy it very much, and I can also see why other reviewers have called it more feminine than masculine, contrary to my own first impression. All in all I don't think I need more of White Sandalwood now that my sample is gone, since in practice I tend to avoid perfumes where I don't altogether love the opening. But I still appreciate it quite a lot - and I certainly vastly prefer this one to the only other Goldfield & Banks I've tested, the more popular (or at least more controversial) Pacific Rock Moss.

This one confused me quite a bit. At first I didn't like the first spray but the dry down became very nice but at the same time, it wasn't anything that extravagant. Certainly didn't hate it either but just rather... meh. I would still wear this on me because I feel people would love this sort of thing on me but my own tastes to it differ unfortunately. This feels like it'll get very mixed reviews but it depends on how you view sandalwood on its own I think. That came across here much stronger than I anticipated for some reason despite its name.

I love this pefume. It's sexy, edgy, flowery, woody and incredibly rich and unique. I do not understand the criticism it gets. I do not smell the lactonic nature of it, or milky or ripening accents. Unfortunately, for me, this fragrance is a bit redundant, as I already own too many sandalwood-based fragrances, like SANTAL 33, or MEMO's Quartier LATIN (sweet and "rubbery" sandalwood), etc. So for me, it's a pass, as I prefer the other sandalwood masterpieces.

A big pass for me. I have the Goldfield & Banks discovery set. There's something in the opening that I can't put my finger on (as someone else said, it's something metallic/artificial), but it ruins the Turkish rose note; and I love Rose, with Rose 31 from Le Labo one of my favorite perfumes. First sample from the discovery set that I don't like.

To me this is an Autumn scent. It reminds me of rummaging through the old cedar chest for those stored away winter clothes. The sandalwood gives me that faint camphor, while the rose comes off like an old Bulgarian rose perfume still clinging on from some far gone season. It begs to be layered like those stored away flannels and sweaters.

To my nose, this smells predominantly like soapy roses and sandalwood, like a rose scented bar soap. This is my first time smelling Australian white sandalwood and I find it soapier clean than traditional indian sandalwood that Im used to that smell dense, buttery and creamy. Interesting different scent profile.

I'm not really feeling this. It's musky rose, but like stale and potpourri. +Soapy yes, also soapy. Metallic and sour. Yes to all that, as other reviewers have noted. I get the theme that it's trying to create, airy beachy vibes, but it's not really all that pleasant. 5/10

This one has strong rose smell throughout. Sandalwood is there somewhere, but it plays second fiddle. Well blended, strong but not enough to give me headache. I do however think that there are much better rose scents out there.

To my nose, this is a fresh leathery rose. I'm surprised that leather isn't listed in the notes, perhaps that's the combination of pepper and thyme throwing me off.

when i first got this, i couldn't figure out what it reminded me of... something antiseptic, but still weird, woody and salty. and today it hit me: witch hazel.

I've smelt straight-up rose and sandalwood. And I prefer to add citruses, fruits, sweetness, spices and mossy woods where there are better ones everywhere.

The saffron in this is strong. Someone mentioned witch hazel. A distant cousin of witch hazel mixed with sandalwood. Don’t blind buy. A pass for me.

The dry down is fine but the opening is somehow extremely medicinal to me. Reminds me of buckley’s cough syrup.

Wow. I have a box of samples from Goldfield and Banks I’ve been ignoring so I thought I’d get something out that looked restrained and calm and put just a spray on before I went to the dentist. I sprayed this and thought my mind was playing tricks on me because...- it smells like the dentist. Like I was already there. And getting some tangy anesthesia after having my mouth washed out with antiseptic. Bizarre. Needless to say I scrubbed it immediately and put on a spritz of This is Her.

Most Goldfield & Banks scents that I screen out of my collection I do because they lack performance or projection. Not the case in my test of this scent. Scent was somewhere between nuclear and strong, and although I could certainly pick out the sandalwood note, it was disappointingly less bright than just about any other santal that I have in my collection. I really love Ingenious Ginger and Bohemian Lime, and am looking forward to trying other frags, but this one I will pass on.

The opening of this perfume is pretty screechy and obnoxious and yet cloying at the same time? I think the sharp edge I'm picking up on is in the way this Sandalwood is peculiarly blended. It aint pleasant. To my nose it's very sandalwood, thyme and black pepper forward. An hour in and the fragrance is more tolerable in the dry down. It's bit more creamy and musky and way less potpourri meets barbie's plastic car. I don't have much more to say here, why bother with this one?

I'm really struggling to detect anything "spicy" or "woody" about this fragrance. I've had it on for almost an hour and still all I can smell is scented baby wipes. It's a very sterile, powdery smell. I can see why other reviewers have said it makes them nauseous. Fortunately it doesn't make me ill, but it does give me a very strong association to diaper changes. This is exactly how I want my baby's bottom to smell. Me, not so much!

This is a woody rose at first, that soon morphs to a fresh spicy rose. While I traditionally enjoy most of these notes together, after it dries down I think the thyme really throws the overall fragrance off for me. It just ends up as a "weird" rose, not a particularly good one on my skin. It's not bad, and I own and love several woody and/or herbal rose-heavy fragrances. But this is not my jam.

Sour woody rose. A fresh, airy rose surrounded by a medicinal bubble of saffron and thyme atop a sweet sandalwood base. Doesn't improve in the linear drydown. Moderate projection for 3-4hr, longevity 12hr+. Despite the linear drydown it only sickens me more over time, like when you're slightly ill and the nausea slowly creeps up on you. Also, I find this more rose-dominant than sandalwood.

Dont get much sandalwood or spices. Just a bitter rose with vintage vibes. Not my cup of tea. Have tried this whole line and supper dissapointing. The notes pyramids dont match actual scent. Price is so high for very generic scents. Also I really dont get any Aussie landscape vibes, just cheep bargan bin scents in fancy bottles

I got the Goldfield & Banks discovery set and this was the only one I genuinely hated. The sandalwood is nice enough but I also get this really sour, metallic smell come through, almost like cat wee. I can see others like it so perhaps it just doesn’t agree with my body chemistry. Won’t wear again.

This is giving me strong baby wipes vibes. So if you're into that kind of powdery scent, you might like it. Not my cup of tea though. Someone compared it to Jardins de Misfah by Une Nuit Nomade, I disagree. The latter is a much prettier sweet rose scent, without the baby wipes scent.

White Sandalwood smells of synthetic woods with a pine note. This does not smell like any Sandalwood perfume or essential oil I've smelled. Perhaps this the Australian Sandalwood? Or perhaps just what synthetic Sandalwood aromachemicals smell like?
