Unknown Legend

First caught wind of this perfume through an influencer; not how I typically encounter a fragrance, but it was described as a *budget friendly* (rare for me) buy where one will essentially 'smell like a spa'. Herbal, clean, soapy, citrus, woody? Hello, right up my alley--so I invested in a travel size to give it a fair test over a week. First impression out of the atomizer, it actually hits me more like a mens' blue freshie (think the greatest hits: Dior Sauvage, Versace Eros, Bleu de Chanel). But when the carrier dies off, it reveals way more than meets the scent pyramid's eye: a sweetness in its lush and low flower beds, a proto-apothecaric-herbs-to-salves garden, a fruitful rue-rich orchard, and the blackened purity of charred sandalwood in its soil to keep it all healthy. Like a number of comments, bang on with how not every fantastic note is listed. If you've visited any Aire spas, this captures its candlelit pools and steam room + L'Occitane hair and skin repertoire in the showers + the Middle Eastern inspired decor + obligatory leather statement sofa in the lobby. An immediate love especially for all its notes; but despite how picturesque it is to breathe in, I only wear this juice for me. Why? It lasts all of 2-3 hrs. If that. For an EdP. Very intimate sillage to the point where a gf had to hug me to realize I was even wearing anything. I went so far as to switch up my full body skincare routine to invest in the body mist (~11USD 150mL) AND a FB (~27USD 50mL) from Target, and sandwich all of it in an effort to maximize its longevity--maybe clocking in at 4 hrs max after over-spraying. But when it's gone, it is GONE. What I'd give to always smell freshly bathed... like I use fancy French soaps in my fav bathhouse just to shower before work is very worth it to me esp at this price point. Certainly not for everybody with these stats, but maybe the price will entice you to try!

Personally, I really love this. It's fresh, clean and calming. I agree with the others who said it sort of smells like a spa. BUT, I would absolutely say this is not a safe blind buy. I think many people will not like this one. It leans masculine in my opinion. It's a bit sharp at first. There is no sweetness in this scent. This scent is my favorite scent from Good Chemistry. I find this scent addicting, though I can't pinpoint why b/c this is not my usual prefernce in scent profile, but this one is so much different than any other fragrance I own and the price is right, for sure! I thought this might be a dupe of Missing Person by Phlur b/c of the name, but it is not at all the same.

I am so impressed by this. I picked it up for $26 at Target and it smells much more expensive. It reminds me so much of Gris Charnal, which is one of my personal favorites. I personally get pretty strong fig and sandalwood notes as I wear it. Love!

This truly is an unknown legend! Who knew I’d want my signature scent to be something so affordable! It’s woody, clean, and just a fantastic fragrance. If you like woody, santal but also fresh and clean.. this is the perfume for you!

I really enjoy this; though it's not my typical fresh citrus woods. Good Chemistry never lists all of the notes in their creations, and this is no exception. If you dig into the ingredients (and watch some of the promos), you discover this is tart woodiness with an abundance of botanicals. Elemi and wild sage, fig, saffron, clove, nutmeg, and burnt wood vapor. Cardamom adds a layer of spice without being heavy or assertive. Orange and eucalyptus are bright and sparkling. This is a beautifully balanced adventure, and I dig the notes. It reminds me of Henry Rose's Char, and PHLUR's Hanami; but fresher and aquatic. It feels nice — totally free and vibrant and bright. The brand's imagery of wide open dusty desert, fresh pops of persisting life and green and untamed winds is the perfect representation. No gourmand or floral notes to muddy or cloud its brilliance. Just fresh greens and grounding woods. Confident but casual, natural but distinctive. A wonderful wear and a true woody aquatic. My favorite from the line.

The opening is very citrusy, almost too much so, followed by the smell of eucalyptus. I enjoy the hints of spiciness/smokiness in the undertones. There is almost a sweet note to it that is more fruity or nutty than floral. Maybe a hint of coconut milk or a couple of figs. It is slightly more masc leaning as others have said. But I think a femme person can still wear this. She's a sister of Work from Home by Memoire Archives (not on here) except instead of the setting of idk working from home lol. She's a kind of cool girl who wears thrifted leather jackets, has long unruly curls or waves, and is known for her beautiful mane. She smells clean like shampoo but like she briefly popped in at a bonfire party. She drinks red wine for sure. Has tattoos, and maybe is even a tattoo artist herself. She's a night owl and occasional club rat but she's the more put-together mom friend of the group. I like her. She's very modest but fairly distinct.

This is almost an oxymoron of a scent: a soft(er) eucalyptus. As many reviewers have noted, this fragrance has a spa-like green freshness, and is truly unisex. The violet leaves must be blunting the astringency usually found in eucalyptus, but make no mistake- if you hate the camphorous smell of eucalyptus, you will likely still find the dominant note too sharp. Since the dill pickle brigade is out in force (and rightfully so - they need to warn others with the same genetic quirk that this will read as pickles to their noses) it obviously contains sandalwood, which adds a creamy woodiness for those of us who don’t perceive santal/sandalwood as pickle-ish. Overall, this is surprisingly niche-smelling considering the extremely affordable price. Not everyone will love it, but no one can accuse it of smelling “cheap.”

So for no definitive reason at all upon hearing the name and seeing the packaging I immediately thought: this is going to be a rendition of Father Figure by Phlur (cool ambiguous name, that marine teal packaging ect) then read the notes and was like hmmm, no fig. Maybe I’m tripping. Only to learn I am NOT tripping and there is fig in this fragrance it’s just not listed. It has that warm lush smell you get from FF. Not necessarily green or aquatic but...cool. Androgynous. Sexy. Kinda has a catnip quality. I dig it but I also knew it would smell like FF so I figured I’d like it lol

Pleasant overall. Light airy, fresh, aromatic scent. I pick up a bergamot like smell for most of its life with a subtle eucalyptus and sandalwood in the background. Sits close to the skin. People under here are saying pickle, but this is no where close to the pickle of Santal 33 or other clones lol

Bought the body spray for my boyfriend. It's unisex, but I don't personally find it feminine. This scent profile is not my preference for myself, but nice to smell on someone else.

Love the actual scent, but it only lasts about 30-45 minutes on my skin and clothes, even with heavy application. The sillage is decent at first, then fades away as quickly.

I wouldn't say this fragrance has any distinct notes as much as it smells like the concept of clean. The feeling of taking an everything shower and then sitting around in a robe with a face mask on. The eucalyptus lends no minty undertones whatsoever, which is a good thing for me personally, and I detected almost no woodiness. It's a sweet, light green scent. Maybe it's just the sample I have but it lasted not even two hours on me. Still lovely though!

I haven’t tried this on the skin and plan to give it away, it smells a little too masculine to me in the bottle :( I really like this as a cologne scent though! I’d love to smell this on my boyfriend or something, it’s a quite woody and aquatic masc scent, and as much as i do like the smell, i’m much more a fan of sweet and soft hyper femme scents.

I smell cardamom. Like that one Commodity perfume ("Book" or "Paper"? I forget) or Neon Moon by Pacifica- it's giving pickle. I always related that smell to being cardamom but it's not even listed as a note here... what gives?! Now i own 3 scents that just smell like pickle chips to me.

I don't care for this. It has a cloying santal scent that is off. I love eucalyptus and santal, but I get no eucalyptus scent at all and the santal smells like fake santal. If you are expecting a Le Labo vibe you will be disappointed.

Very masculine. I gave it to my husband. Something about it reminds me of Replica By The Fireplace, but I could be off.

This had a sharp green note that I found really off-putting on my skin. It was reminiscent of when my mom would use ginger in rice porridge (arroz caldo) and I accidentally ate a huge chunk of it. I wanted to wash this off immediately.

In the same way that cilantro/coriander tastes like soap to some people, there are certain sandalwood extracts that smell like dill pickles to some people. I'm one of those people. This fragrance contains that certain sandalwood. The Fine'ry "I'm a Musk" is the same way. Unbearable dill pickle smell that doesn't go away in the dry down. My husband doesn't get the dill pickle smell and thought they both smelled wonderful. So it isn't a body chemistry thing. It's a personal olfactory thing.

This is one of the worst things I have smelled in my life. Sharp, Makes cough and gag. Why? Why make this? Vicks vapor rub smells better.

I was so doubtful when I saw the reviews comparing this to Gris Charnel, but this is totally a light-performing freshie version of it! I was shocked to smell similar notes of fig on top of a rich sandalwood. I have a decant of Gris Charnel and have worn it recently, and comparing the two is not a stretch at all (coming from someone who likes to argue about sandalwood and is typically dubious of the "reminds me of" section). It's androgynous in the same way as Sel Santal is due to the green, herbal sandalwood, but there's a subtle powdery sweetness due to a light background floral like iris or violet, which I am sure is also some unlisted note.

Really nice unisex scent here from Good Chemistry! As a male it’s my first bottle and scent I’m familiar with from them and I’m quite impressed. Clean and versatile for any time yet overall a unique profile, it really has some similarities to le Labo Santal 33 with the violet leaf and sandalwood the way they are presented but is still overall a good bit different. Definitely softer and lighter which some may prefer, and for women who like more characteristic scents this could be a nice option!
