Goop Edition 02

Can you call Goop a celebrity designer fragrance? Same as the Olsen twins and their brand? I feel that while both (or all three rather) are probably better known for their work on the screen, that their brands deserve to recognized separately. However I guess they are both different beasts, one being a designer and one being a collaborative lifestyle brand. This fragrance is spicy, quite resinous and very vegetal. It’s not what I expected at all and for that I’m really thrilled. In the winter it leans more spicy and almost leathery. In the heat of summer it smells of dark leafy green vegetables and herbs with just a touch of smoky resin. It’s maybe a bit loud for some but I like monsters like this. I recently purchased Goop Edition 4 because I enjoy this fragrance so much and look forward to future purchases from the Heretic line.

I like Douglas Little, the nose behind the Heretic and Goop fragrance lines, and I love natural perfumery. Edition 02's claim of being all-natural is dubious considering the low price point, but 02 is nevertheless really beautiful. It's peppery, resinous, and herbal. It smells like freshly gathered spices with the dirt still clinging to them. Scents like this usually don't translate into summer, but this one does thanks to the juniper, bright ginger and shiso, which is sort of reminiscent of mint and basil. It's almost like a cool, gin-based herbal cocktail. I'm sure Gwyneth drinks just such a concoction and touts its spiritual and health properties. About the Breath of God comparison: Insofar as both fragrances are simultaneously fresh and smoky, it makes limited sense. BoG is a grilled melon shish kebab and 02 lacks the prominent fruity note and is generally more seamlessly blended. Edition 02's smokiness is closer to Palo Santo than BoG's temple incense. The two scents aren't quite siblings, but perhaps cousins.

Love this! Evokes a walk through a mystical forest in very early spring, with all the flora and fauna just beginning to awaken. Smells very herbal, woodsy, a little smokey and just a bit dirty/funky. The notes are so seamlessly blended it's hard to pick out individual ones, but the shiso, ginger, and labdanum are most prominent to me. The most perfect perfume for very early spring. It's completely unisex.

It's really, REALLY good. Whenever I wear it, little spicy tangy wafts go right up through my nose, into my head and put an instant grin on my face.
