Eucalipto

It may sound funny but for me it smells like the Hills of Rio de Janeiro. An eucaliptus forest in the Drizzle. Yess, it does have a Sauna scent, of course, but it also comes with the wood chalet, garden and forrest on the background. It's great for a Summer night out. not overpowering, and an earthy kind of fresh, like summer rain.

In Brazil, summer lasts almost year long, and it never really gets cold. But even so, men wear winter fragrances in the dead of heat, and it is very overpowering! Many brazilians never wear fragrances as they associate it with cloying, vintage winter powerhouses being used in 30o+ degrees (90F) summer. Polo green is one of the main offenders in brazilian summer, as it is very succesfull in here. Men wear 10+ sprays in the dead of summer, and it has gained a bad reputation due to being oversprayed and wrongly used. Well, Granado Eucalipto has come to rescue those who love old school fragrances but want to wear it on the summer without being cloying. It has been very much inspired by Polo green, but adapted to very humid heat. It opens with eucalyptus, a lot of it. For the first 5 minutes, that's all you can smell. I was put off by it when tested, as it smelled initally just like bathroom cleaner. So, after testing it on my hand, i walked away. But after only 10 minutes from the first spray, the eucalyptus note has become very subdued, although stil present, but now in combination with oakmoss, lavander and geranium, and although not listed, I can smell a lot of pine needles. This creates a manly, classic accord, reminiscent of the drydown of Polo, and other chypres, but very much brightened by the eucalyptus and bergamot notes. I'd picture this being released as Polo l'Eau, or as an Aramis release, as is a very american type of scent. But the eucalyptus, bergamot and lime are very present, granting this scent a summer twist. Imagine a gentleman, an 80's, hair chested type of gentleman though, there is a lot of raw masculinity about him, spending his vacation in Rio de Janeiro in the dead of summer. This is it! This is what he would smell like. Although it is remeniscent of Polo, this is more refined, more gentleman-y, but sill a green, piney powerhouse. This is part of Granado's Vintage line, and very much so, it smells like it's from another era. If you are young and like it, wear it for sure. I am in my 20s and rock this easily. But this has a very old school aura to it, and the eucalyptus adds to that aura. Perfect for those who love powerhouses but can't rock them year long. Buy it, but try it first, the eucalyptus might remind you of saunas and cleaning products, but please, get past the first 10 minutes, as this one changes drasticaly. We grow by stepping in the shoulders of giants, and by doing that, we are able to have a strong foundation to our creations. This is true not only in Physics and Maths, where great discoveries lead to another great development, but also in perfumery. In 1917, Coty lauched the first Chypre fragrance, and that popularized the use of the Chypre structures, with citrus + oakmoss. Carlos Benaim, a master perfumer, in 1978 took that structure and added a whole amount of notes, especially tobacco and pine, and created a masterpice like Polo, which set trends for the whole perfume industry. In 2018, Granado is stepping on this giant's sholders, just like Polo stepped on Chypre's shoulder... A must try for any Polo wearer or powerhouse lover!
