Cabochard Chérie

First test review, may add to this as time goes on... I just received as a blind buy and couldn’t wait to test this. It’s one I’ve looked over for some time but finally decided to get. I was concerned if it might end up being too Vintage smelling for me... it’s definitely not that. At first spray I was in love, I didn’t find it very strong initially so I oversprayed a bit. At first I felt this is not close to anything I own, very chic, fresh and lightly sweet, a lovely mix hard to distinguish at first separate notes all blended, then I get the bergamot, pear, narcissus and light sweetness, it’s warm late spring/summery day and it feels so very uplifting it really boosted my mood 😀, as it developed a little if feels cosy and comforting and really delicious but getting sweeter. I hit the love on this page immediately! But... I have to say it has really adapted over 1/2 hour quite a bit now... it quickly became very patchouli heavy on my skin and also praline forward, it very quickly then seemed more caramel scented and 100% reminiscent of Orissima to my nose! The patchouli caramel and orange blossom are there but I’m not getting leather at all. I’m not mad about it as I do love orissima but it’s a real shame because I was expecting something different ... and now I feel it is getting sweeter and sweeter very quickly like sweeties and patchouli only and slightly overpowering and yes I get what a below review says... a teeny bit nauseating... so now for me it is not chic anymore in the way I felt initially / or in the way of lovely Orissima. I’m sad I’ve lost the fresh citrus, can’t find basil or narcissus orange blossom anymore at all... I have left it as a love for now, but maybe need to experiment with this a little more. My nose is a bit confused what has happened right now in such a short time 😂! Maybe it’s the warm weather or lotion I have on my skin, definitely going to try this in other circumstances . Right now I have a real itch to add something to it though... to bring back more balance to it.

This fragrance and its bottle are literally the embodiment of French charm. The beautiful bottle made of heavy glass, the beautiful bow and the lid could not be more French. The scent itself is sweet chypre, sweet pears, bergamot, freesia, daffodils, pralines, leather notes and good amount of patchouli. I also smell quite a strong incense there, although it is not mentioned in the composition. Modern yet vintage. This is the scent of a young Parisian woman who lives in an historical apartment with high ceilings, has artistic friends, goes to chanson clubs in the evenings and is terribly chic. I have read this fragrance compared to Miss Dior Chérie, but the similarity is minimal. This fragrance is much more original and captivating. Edit 06/16/2024: Surprisingly delicious in the summer heat. I don't even know how I thought of trying this perfume on my wrist in the hot summer. I originally classified it as a spring perfume, more suited to the cooler spring. I had the spontaneous idea to try it in the heat and to my surprise, it unfolded as beautifully as never before. I've found with a number of winter-heavy perfumes that they work surprisingly well on me in the summer and even better than they do in the winter. I'll probably start testing more winter fragrances in the upcoming hot season.

After smelling this for the first time, I thought it went wrong and badly! I really couldn’t comprehend what they has been sought with this? and to whom is this being marketed? I allready had orginal Cabochard and this was soo far away... I couldn’t have guessed that one day I would consider back up on this. 😝 I'm probably the wrong person to recommend this, my taste may be a little "on the edge", and someone else can smell this completely different, but... For me this opens with a cool, almost cold herb note with a natural pear. That pear quickly turns to like emaciated champagne when that "on praline drowned Cabochard" attacks the rings. The scent dries into a very playdough, waxy praline with cleanliness Cabochard and fluffy pear champagne. This stay near to skin, but leave trail and the longevity is just great! I think that this is easy to use, office friendly and unique, but not necessarily a compliment collector. I love it.

Finally decided to buy this as I had my eye on it for about 2 years. All I can say is that this is a wonderful fragrance, so elegant and feminine. Gres is a wonderful perfume house that should get more love, their perfumes are outstanding for the price you pay for them. I would say that Cherie is similar to Christelle Eau Verte but with more florals. I think this fragrance would be wonderful in spring and summer but you could wear it at any time of the year. Edit: I have now used up most of my 100ml fragrance and I still love it! I have literally used this every day for a month and am going to be buying a new bottle very soon. I agree totally with the reviewer above mine. It is french sophistication, signature scent worthy and the bottle is just gorgeous too!

Okay so... yes I love it! But also... I was surprised to love it because the original Cambochard is soo different. The one thing they do have in common though is the orchestral symbiosis within their notes. This has better lasting power and sillage, but even then I had to spray the hell out of it (I used it on my fake flowers). I think I’ll be getting this and the original formulation again. My Mum, who is my second nose (birthing somehow gave her the nose of bloodhound) has commented on how dated my recent purchases have been. But I like this. I like lasting power and staying power, that has to do more with quality than technology... That said, this really is the ‘ féminin ultime’ when it comes to perfume. Hm... I think I like Gres.
