Mythos Hommage a Greta Garbo

Contrary to previous reviews, I honestly don't think this smells cheap at all! I love it! From start to finish, hours after applying, this perfume is a joy to wear. Husband likes it very much too! I would love to buy a 60 ML bottle but am having a hard time locating it. Sadly, it doesn't last more than a couple of hours on me. The sillage is also more like a skin scent, which with this particular perfume, I love.

It's a pleasant youthful fragrance. It doesn't bring pictures of Greta Garbo to my mind howeverThis opens up with a blast of orange which sadly dies within minutes. Then I can smell the freesia, rose and peony. I don't know why but the apple comes out on me after I smell the florals and then after a while I smell the florals again. I can only smell the teeniest bit of musk at the end. The only real drawback of this is it only lasted about 3ish hours. I think it's best for spring ad summer daytime use. Age group: for younger people, or the young at heart. :) Edit I did notice a slight soft powder too it, I think it's from the sandalwood.

Well, I might be called a person with no high expectations from house of Gres, but heck...previous guys-reviewers then might wear a title of people with high expectations) Its generic and cheap smelling, been said..hmmm...if to compare with some classic and Malle frags?.. Might be so. Otherwise its sparkling, happy, feminine, clean, shiny, absolutely not trivially so fragrance, that I find enchanting and easy to wear, - good mix of fruits with flowers, I do smell beautiful freesia with pineapple in it, it has softness and zest at the same time, and its like vacations in Roma to me, - lovely!

This is a delightful, simple, airy and light fragrance. Admittedly, the connection with Garbo is tenuous, but the connection with Madame Grès' couture is less problematic. Her floatimg, goddess-like gowns float upon the flimsiest of architecture. Mythos is similarly floating and ephemeral....., barely there,but intoxicating. Lovely. Of course, its a very feminine fragrance, but I don't care. Garbo smells!

This perfume is the perfect day-wear scent. Very light and refreshing, you will never tire of it. Flowery, sweet, earthy, and not to mention great value and lasts long too. I have 100+ niche samples for swap within Europe - updated spreadsheet of samples on my profile, get in touch!

Soft, fresh, fruity & light, good for summer or everyday wear. Not terribly special but cheerful & pleasant. Bottle is attractive. I think it's nice, but my younger daughter (aged 13) thinks it's LOVELY. I might just give it to her.

When Greta Garbo famously said she "Vanted to be alone" it's likely out of embarrassment at being caught wearing this. Seriously, let me first say: I'm a big Gres fan. Cabochard is imo one of the finest perfumes ever created. Yes, I'm a vintage fan, too, but I admit they did a good job with the latest ( be-bowed version ). I also think some of the recent creations have been good as well ( Piece Unique and the Les Signes range ) . Their price belies their quality, I'd recommend them highly. Gres still can clearly produce the good when it wants to. Sadly it's not the case here. It's a poor copy of some already nondescript 90's frags such as Clinique Happy ( another brand that went from the sublime to the ridiculous ). Like Happy it adds insult to injury by going off pretty quickly too ! Best I can say is: they stick it in a reproduction of the famous "dimple" designed bottle. Worse I can say: it's cheap, watery rubbish and an insult to to use the name of a great star of the golden age of Hollywood. I don't know about "Garbo talks !"; She be crying if she smelled this.

The pineapple in this is really strong. It's not very pleasant, but it is longlasting. If you like very fruity florals you might like this. The bottle and packaging are very good looking though.

I bought a nicely presented box of 5ml x3 samples of Hommage to Garbo by Gres for £2.25 (and another for the same price for Dietrich). Such a low price, I had no expectations and decided anything which is good enough not to be instantly scrubbed off is a bargain. Mythos is better quality than its bargain basement price tag suggests. I get no progression over time, it stays essentially the same for hours, but it has a layered structure you experience simultaneously. Up front it has a sour, thin, sharp edge which reminds me of a 1920s cocktail or a cologne but it also has a thicker, oilier under-current which reminds me of the smell of the ink in Bic pens. The oily under-current broadens out the fragrence and makes it more complex and voluminous so more of a parfum than a cologne. I suppose the sour top note could be green apple and the high-to-middle notes freshia. I have no idea what creates the Bic pen base note. I get no musk, no sandalwood, and no iris. I guess the base note oils are mixing with the oils in my own skin so maybe it's me that smells like a pen(?!?) This has low to moderate sillage and is a long-lasting skin scent, lingering for over 24 hours (in cool weather). My description might sound unappealing but actually I like Mythos. The Queen of the Night screachy top notes are a bit off-putting but tolerable and I like the oily base which intrigues me and keeps me entertained. I think Mythos is a good portrait of the Garbo mystique - the top notes are the icy 'keep-away' star of the silver screen exterior and the mysterious base notes are the concealed, private, desireable but unavailable 'I vant to ve alone' real woman inside. Okay, not a masterpiece but not bad. For it to be a masterpiece you'd just need better quality ingredients because the structure is sound. This fragrance has a coherent 'narrative' and that is actually very rare even in far more pricy smells from the likes of Penhaligans, Hermès or Creed. So, good try Gres. If you see a discounted sample, buy it :-)

More herbal or aromatic smelling than fruity. Even a little masculine in the opening. Kind of sour too. A little in it gets sweeter, primarily from the freesia but still with the blackcurrant lingering, so sweet n’sour. At first it smells a bit invigorating like it was meant for the gym or for a young male high school student overspraying his deo to hide his body odour. At this initial stage it also smells kind of cheap. Then it takes on a more female scent profile with some peony and a lot of rose as well. Dry down is more subtle with a good dose of iris and an almost fatty feel to it. A weirdish creation, but also somewhat interesting as it develops quite unexpectedly. From cheapish aromatic aftershavy over sweet(er) female frenchy to less airy and much more mature. And kind of fresh all the way through. However, I struggle to see this having anything to do with Greta Garbo and do find it to be an odd hommage to one of the most iconic actresses ever. One could argue she had a colder stage presence as opposed to her more private persona, but she also eluded an air of sophistication that is lacking in this. This has a very young scent profil until you reach the final stage. However, I feel I have to give it a full days wear to truly appreciate it as it is interesting indeed. I think, there maybe more to this than a confusing development and it may just take a little time to make itself feel more present. I’ll re-test another day with more time on my hands.

Not really sure what to make of this. There are elements I like and elements I don't. The freshness of this is lovely, it kinda sparkles, it smells clean, like roses and an airy freesia. The bad side of it is that it's verging on being too sharp, nose tingly and quite cheap smelling (sorry). The rose is the main thing here, with some clean...shampoo kind of tones backing it up. Simple and pleasant enough but not one I'd rave about or rush out to buy.

Nice and refreshing, but not very original. I usually avoid floral fruities, but this one is not bad, taking its low price into consideration. Orange, peony and rose are distinctive here and the fragrance has a pretty good sillage for a modern product. It is very feminine and springlike, but I am not sure Greta Garbo would find it inspiring and sophisticated enough. Still, a good option for a daily, office use.

The notes listed here are so unlike what I'm smelling when I wear this. It's quite fresh... green and a bit shampoo / soap-like. I'm guessing it's the freesia. However, the opening was strong and quite sour; not pineapple sour but almost pickle sour. Thankfully, that didn't last long. I like this, don't love it, but it's a good, clean change-up scent for when I want to wear something out of the ordinary.

I don't want to say bad things but... basically it smells like shampoo to me. I don't mind the smell but it doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing perfume frankly. It's inoffensive, light and I do smell some pineapple but I think it's the freesia that kills it for me, it always smell cheap. Fine for the office I guess but I see no connection to Greta Garbo.

I really like it : inoffensive , tender , refreshing and really sparkling ....What else do you need :-) ?

Sharp and cheap. Goes off really quickly too. Not good. Gorgeous bottle though.
