A Reason To Love

So I'm a newbie to the world of exclusive and niche perfumes. In fact I barely know my high street perfumes. But I wanted something special for my birthday and A Reason To Love was the latest in the Alchemist Garden Collection and had just come out before my birthday. It's a lot of money and I couldn't really justify spending that much except it was for a milestone birthday. All I know is I was sold at the Gucci counter at Harrods after sampling the whole Alchemist Garden Collection. If I could I would have bought all of them... I'm so in love with the other worldly enchanted magical Alchemy style bottles and names and the world they transport me to. So hooked I bought it ( and Nocturnal Whisper). So yes rose and oud has been done a million times before but I don't care because I love it. It's not as skanky as Voice of the Snake but id say it's a slighter lighter but still animalistic scent that makes me want to keep sniffing it as the day goes on. I layered it with the Nocturnal Whisper perfume oil I'd also bought and I just have to say omgg woww... I want to make love to my skin. It's such sexy combo... Just dark and erotic. This now my signature scent combo that I don't think I can ever be without.

A Reason To Love is the perfect floral oud. In some small way it reminds me of Chelsea Nights minus the harshness in the drydown. ARTL is a soft floral oud. The initial hour or so is more oudy and then the softness in the floral takes over and it becomes a soft romantic fragrance. For us living in the western world, this is the right amount of oud. Comparing it to LV Les Sables Roses - they are somewhat similar but LV is more masculine to me. Also, more powdery and less sweet in the dry down. They both perform similarly. LV bottle is better (LV makes the best bottles). This is not like Ombre Nomad until you get to the deep deep dry down and Obmre Nomad's floral/fruit notes appear. But even then, not similar. I find this NOTHING like Radical Rose as at all. Radical Rose presents with an earthiness and something very sharp. ARTL is much softer and feminine. Anyway. I love it and it has been my go to colder weather fragrance this year (displacing Le Lion!)

One of my favorite Oud rose scents I’ve smelled, there’s something so sexy and alluring about Gucci’s A Reason to Love. It has good sillage but it’s not overtly intense or obnoxious to suffocate others. I have had many compliments while wearing this, though I try to save the juice for special occasions since it’s pricier and Gucci doesn’t offer refills. Wear this scent in more cooler climates or for indoors, I wouldn’t wear this in a hot climate or to work out. I also think this fragrance IS slightly feminine leaning it can very much be a full unisex offering to whoever wants to wear it.

Soft powdery rose with an interesting drydown. Overall very pleasing but extremely overpriced for the experience that it offers. Blending is smooth and smells natural and sophisticated. Performance is average. Worth a try at a discount. Unisex with slight feminine vibes. More for cozy encounters. Shukran Habibi!

I layer it with The Voice of Snake - result - True Alchemy. This is a beautiful rose-forward rose-oud fragrance which is sweet and slightly powdery. Unisex and very nicely done. Shukran Habibi!

Rose oud combo’s done time and time again but it still wins me over all too easily. This one is animalic towards the dry down, which makes it all the more special because it’s not overdone.

It's like a more rose forward, sweeter LV Ombre Nomade. It has the same style of oud which i really like.

The opening is like stepping into a garden just before dawn. A damp oud accord first emerges as a deep green shadow. A heavy, quiet and commanding entrance. From the very first moment, it signals that oud is the heart of this fragrance. Before long, Damask rose begins to breathe. There is no sharpness, just the texture of dew-kissed petals. The soft sweetness of peony and the subtle spice of cardamom overlap, creating a top note that is floral yet not overly cool. The sweetness is restrained, and the contours are distinct. As we enter the heart notes, the relationship between oud and rose becomes clear. They do not clash, but run parallel. The darkness of the oud enhances the brightness of the rose, whilst the rose’s moisture soothes the roughness of the oud. The smokiness is minimal, like a wisp of smoke drifting faintly deep within the forest. In the base, turpentine comes to the fore. The sweetness of the resin and a roundness that faintly suggests vanilla. The centre of gravity remains low, and the scent settles gently against the skin. It is not a strongly diffusing fragrance, but rather one that lingers gently at close range, like residual warmth. This scent is not merely ‘oud and rose’; it is a fragrance that paints a story with intricate shades of light and shadow. At first, I was taken aback by the weight of the oud, but as time passes, the rose that gently emerges captures the heart, leaving a deep, lingering impression where complexity and warmth intertwine. A scent with a mature charm that is particularly suited to the colder seasons and evening scenes.

Testing Gucci A Reason to Love on one hand and Louis Vuitton Les Sables Roses on the other reveals two very different interpretations of rose and oud. A Reason to Love opens much louder: intensely rosy, almost screeching at first, with peony-like floral brightness and considerably more sweetness than the Louis Vuitton. As the initial blast recedes, the floral dominance loosens and a dusty woody-oud accord begins to emerge. A balsamic base follows, softened by a mild trace of vanilla. After about ten minutes, the sweetness continues to fall away and the composition becomes much more balanced, rounded, and mysterious. Rose, oud, balsams, and vanilla share the foreground more evenly, and what begins as loud and distinctly feminine settles into a calmer, more compelling unisex fragrance. Les Sables Roses is a completely different experience. The rose is present immediately, but it is restrained by minerality and the dry sparkle of pepper and saffron. Ambergris feels like the structural column of the fragrance, with the rose, spice, and saffron radiating outward from it rather than competing for dominance. It is more linear than the Gucci, consistently unisex with a masculine lean. After about fifteen minutes, however, the soapiness becomes a little too pronounced for me, recalling a heavily scented rose bar soap. I prefer the opening of Les Sables Roses, but the mid and drydown of A Reason to Love are more satisfying: less sweet, more rounded, more unisex, and ultimately more mysterious.

Promiscuous dense rich rose opening, not sure if it's me but again I get the plum rose edible jam on skin, misses the sweetness, just that quality utter caramelized rose petals true confiture. Fresh in that manner too, get the amber, get the fine oud, don't get the powdery, no spices. This was supposed to be 'another oud rose' for me, went straight for the Alchemist's Garden blind buy, from the first wear on and then every time sprayed, remember, hits and realize that this must be one of them few best rose ouds out there. Impeccable galore. Say that because am not familiar with a lot of the greats out there for now, for sure, but the highest quality in this is what I'm talking about. Get the assorted abundancy, depth, constant swing between ripe dark rose and separate pleasant woods, stays solid throughout and still has the most ideal generous atomizer.

I love roses but have a very difficult time with oud. Only very rarely does an oudy rose work for me. ARTL is one of the few that I like. It's beautiful and long-lasting. Still don't think it's worth the price. Need to get a proper sample to give this a full test! Edit: Sample acquired. This fragrance is so beautiful, and has reconciled me with oud roses. Gorgeous fall/winter scent.

Tried this and loved it however I've got several in my collection that are similar enough I didn't need this one. Truly it's lovely though. Sweet fresh rose and medicinal clean oud stand out and really shine. It's very well done and if you don't love either rose or oud this puts them together in such a way you may be surprised.

Not unique at all. Smells like: Armani Rose d’Arabie Initio Atomic Rose Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud I guess this is a trend. It does have higher spillage than Jo Malone, but not more than Initio. Armani is in between. Its a quality scent, but for its price, I’d purchase another rose oud scent.

Oud and Roses. The rose is slightly fruity, candied. Linear, soft, pleasant. Similar to many other scents, like Nina L'Extase...it also seems like something made by Montale/Mancera. You can have this aroma for much less money. I am tired of the lack of creativity in the perfume world.

A feminine twist on "The Voice of the Snake." Rose oud goodness. Rose oud done relativity right. Gothic, dark and brooding, a strong touch more unisex and feminine than Voice. A touch lighter. But from the same garden. 🐍 Gives me Mancera vibes.

Slightly dark, solid oud, floral with the Tolu Balsam base. Not too familiar with that, new note to me and works so well. Definitely a home bringer, sometimes pair it with The Voice of the Snake, really loving these two lately.

So looking at the notes this is probably going to smell like Jo malone Velvet and Oud why is Gucci selling this for almost $700 ? Cmon now what’s going on with these perfumes that are getting more expensive and expensive.

This is a very wearable rose oud. Great technique with nothing overdone. Smells really wonderful.

Beautiful but not unique. Its hard to outshine the other oud rose fragrances and become unique.

Is this just another Rose & Oud frag for almost $600? Seriously?
