Aqua Allegoria Ginger Piccante

I was underwhelmed when I first tried this from a decant swap. It was more a rose perfume than a ginger perfume. I put it away for awhile and pulled it out this summer and plowed through my decant in a month. It's still promarily a rose perfume to me. The ginger is most noticeable in the beginning, as is the bright lemony citrus. A light, bright rose joins and remains til the end. Very refreshing and perfect for heat and humidity, like a ginger rose tea. It's very linear on me and soft and not long-lasting. Stays close to the skin for most if its life. But I like perfumes that fade after after a few hours (I tend to not tire of my shorter-lived perfumes as I do with those tenacious powerhouses). I think this perfume is balanced nicely. It's not too sweet or too sour or "too" anything really. I can wear it when nothing else seems to appeal to me. It uplifts me when I'm feeling tired and refreshes and calms me as a bedtime scent. It also layers nicely with other roses or citrus perfumes. Happy I didn't give away my decant as I was thinking about doing that!

I think the creators were looking for the scent of ginger flower. An ingredient used in cooking. On first spray, this smells like ginger juice (grated ginger and squeezing the juice). Young ginger and spicy. Then, the English rose peaks through becoming stronger merging with a white musk base. A pretty perfume. One of those scents which barely says anything at all (not because you can't smell it) but, because it becomes one with you and the environment. The ginger stays crisp through the dry down. Unisex. I would love to smell this on the chest of a man. Another winner from the Aqua Allegoria range. I'm so happy that this range of fragrances while marketed to a younger market, are packaged in classy, stunning packaging and the scents are artfully curated for all to enjoy. Something lovely to put on everyday. My last ginger fragrance is from Origins, almost 20 years old. That one opens strongly and it's empty in the middle like a merlot. Ginger Piccante smells nothing like it.

I had a quick sniff and a spray in the store, and decided it would suit my partner well. By the time I could afford it, it was discontinued and sold out everywhere — except for astronomical prices online. To my great satisfaction I recently aquired an almost full bottle second hand, and it arrived in good time for christmas. I sprayed it on my hand, just to test it was okay... What happened was love at first sniff. An opening firework of lemony ginger quickly gave way to a buttery gingerbread cookie. The sweetness and warm spice released a wave of endorfins in my body, just pure joy and happiness! In the dry-down it reveals a cool, woody note — yet the ginger lingers on top. Beautiful! I don’t really get the rose in this scent, but it might be just the ingredient to make it light and comforting. I will keep this for myself, and start a campaign to make Guerlain restore it to the AA line!

Spicy, fresh, uplifting, and subtly sexy. I sprayed this on before bed, which I thought might be a mistake given the citrus notes, but it didn’t keep me awake. In fact, to me, it is a comforting scent. I woke in a delicious cloud of fragrance. It may be responsible for a sudden craving for Thai food though, lol. It seems to last longer on me in cooler weather. When I tested it several months ago, it faded too quickly. It was a hot, humid day. I cannot give you my husband’s full review just yet. He does like it, but I don’t yet know how much. He tends to prefer vanilla based fragrances like a lot of men. Edit: He says it smells like dryer sheets. I love dryer sheets! 😂 Another edit: Now he likes it a lot. Not a “sexy” like, but a aromatic, pleasing like. I’ve figured out that it reminds me of lemon ginger tea, which is something I love. Now my teenage daughter is stealing sprays from me.

Bought for me (thanks honey!) in January 2020, on holiday in the canary islands before Covid hit international travel. My nose tends to pick up singular notes, so I get citrus, ginger and rose. Thankfully the old olfactory workings do not pick up cedar, because generally cedar bases disagrees with me, mostly emitting 'back of the wood shed musty' type smell,I'm normally very agreeable so I don't know why cedar doesn't like me *sob*. but on this scent, cedar is unnoticeable. It's light, but stays quite a long time. I personally like spraying just on top of my chest, so when I flap my neckline I get a sweet ginger rose tickle. it's a favourite as it reminds me of my holidays and the fun Scottish couple we met there plus dark skies trying to keep above 19 degrees and generally having (and continuing) a relationship with a very nice man.
