Fleur de Feu

Hello all 👋 Unsure why there are no reviews for THIS beauty? Have communicated w/several fellow perfumistas whom HAVE tried & whom, like myself, find this particular Guerlain positively AMAZING & bewitching 😀! Whilst I DO HAVE quite an extensive vintage (mostly parfum) fragrance collection, I DON'T generally write or leave reviews anywhere because I ALSO possess quite a deficiency in a particular department I feel may be necessary for the authoring of a review: * gulp * I simply can NOT detect or distinguish most specific notes contained within these olfactory lovelies 😞 I know, I know, I know ..... talk about a deficiency, right? *sigh* Sad, but very true. Now, I'm not a TOTAL skill deficient admirer of scents, lol. I CAN seem to (always) detect an (extremely) limited number of notes here n there: iris, vanilla, anise and leather. Thats about it tho. Hence, am confident others can understand my reluctance to pen on what/how I PERCIEVE fragrances, eh? Still? Only because at the time of THIS writing (July 2022), there is ZERO a review for Ms Fleur de Feu, and because I feel she deserves SO MUCH BETTER, I shall make some attempt to share what/how she makes her statement in this, our fantasy, fervent and let's face it: FUN fragrance world 😉 First of all, one thing I have noticed among the rather undeserved lackluster descriptions of her, is how she seems 2B written about as if a mere floral. Such a fundamental layer to all its characteristics, I, personally, find to be NOT accurate? I'll explain my meaning here, just so as to make that aforementioned statement more clear. To call Fleur de Feu a mere floral is, to me, about the equivalent of calling Shalimar a mere Chypre, sans any mention of its spicy characteristics. YES! Actually, I just surprised the rookie frag reviewer in myself for that spontaneous, yet dead-on accurate descriptive statement! LOL Fleur de Feu is, in MY opinion, SO SPICY, that I have ALWAYS relayed that characteristic first & paramount to those questioning. In fact? I find her 2B equally full of spice as Shalimar? In even greater fact - for myself? I find her 2B ONE SPICY 🔥 MAMA! Thus, to call her a mere floral is a GRANDE injustice to her fiery beauty! Indeed, as of our representative assisted, Feb 2020 bi-annual homeowner insurance policy updating of household valuables inventory lists, my collection is comprised of ~1800 DIFFERENT fragrances. Further, at LEAST 65-70% of those are VINTAGE parfum/extrait formulations. Lastly, of those parfum strength lovelies, IF I HAD to come up with a weaned list of only my ten most favorite, Fleur de Feu would absolutely make the cut 😃. She'd likely make MY top 5 even! Yes, THATS HOW GORGEOUS SHE IS! Regarding Guerlains specifically, I should confess I've NOT much of an elaborate diversity, for reasons likely attributed to my inability to first locate & then afford more flacons of extraits than currently found in my collection. Therefore, tho I say Fleur is MY ABSOLUTE TOPS among the Guerlains I've experience with, it needs mentioned my experience is NOT as broad as my collection numbers may lead one to assume. That all being said, I'll inform of those I DO find her standing on the shoulders of > insomuch as I have either extensively tried * via purchase of at LEAST a 2ml decant .... or currently own regarding Guerlain scents in extrait/parfum formulation: • Shalimar • Mitsouko • Chamade • Chant d'Aromes • Atuana • Jicky • Vol de Nuit • L'Heure Bleue • Apres Ondee • Gardenia • Chypre • Pois de Senteur • Bouquet de Faunes • Belle Epoque • Bouquet du Roi • Kadine • Cuir de Russie • Ode • Imperiale Russe • Eau de Tubereuse • Champs-Elysees • Chypre de Paris • Rue de la Paix • Fol Arome • Djedi • LIU • Nahema • Parure • Samsara I've ALSO several rather common Guerlain scents that are NOT in parfum/extrait strength or concentration such as Mahora, Habit Rouge, Imperiale, Eau de Guerlain, Coq, Shalimar Initial, Shalimar Ode de Vanille, Philtre, etc etc etc So? You see altho I've a decent amount, I've FAR FROM an extensive Guerlain collection & thus, perhaps another Guerlain DOES exist for which might topple what, to me, is a sheer Masterpiece: my beloved Fleur de Feu ❤️ ? IF she exists, I've not yet come across her 🤷🏽♀️❓️ Oddly enough, I'd NOT seen the Guerlain ad for Fleur de Feu until AFTER I'd owned my first (of what would eventually be four *gulp*) Ciel de Gratte Flacon of Fleur. After seeing the ad, with the depiction of a Phoenix arising from a former self, I understood PERFECTLY the sentiment both in the Guerlain mentality upon its initial release in the early post WW2 era AND in its literal scent: think fiery as in spicy! Apologies for my albeit boring review - deficient in actual notes. Those you can read & I'll leave to the lucky ones of you whom are capable of olfactory detection of notes & their perception/depiction, those duch explanation(s) 🥴 I shall leave you with one idea, if any: if you enjoy that special somethin which somehow, as if magically, assures one whenever a Guerlain fragrance is experienced > > > that it IS a Guerlain *giggle* .... coupled with the pleasure of veritable spicy-ness which is present upon the initial spray & continually evolves into different, yet distinctly present spices, as if also somehow magically .... THEN you MUST TRY Ms. Fleur de Feu 👍❗️ I cannot imagine anybody NOT thoroughly enjoying her ? And I don't say that of many frags as I'm well aware of the simple fact of human differences. However? There ARE those very very rare & unique scents which touch on what I can only percieve as "divinity" here on Earth. Ms Fleur de Feu is indeed among those Grande Dames! To experience her is to adore her 🥰 💖. I only warn against any assumptions what you will experience will be a (pffft) "Floral" bcuz she IS ohhhhh, so (very) much more ! She IS a Phoenix in EVERY sense of the iteration. I shall leave you with a wish 🤞🏼: that each & every one of you, my fellow fragheads, have an opportunity TO experience her 🙏 . I wish as much for all bcuz I believe we ALL deserve to experience ... ** even if possible only by means of treating ONESELF 🙄😏 ... to some, if even only a little, of Life's greater pleasures ..... and again .... that glimpse of "divinity" 😌 Be well on your journey fellow fragheads 👋 ~ Lu ☮️ ✌️ NOTE: ALSO: I forgot to mention I've ALSO bottles of Fleur de Feu in its EDT & Cologne iterations and all I CAN say about those ❓️ 😝 Pffft Save your money Really ✋️ The weaker formulations do not .... ... and I repeat DO NOT 🚫 parlay MUCH OF ANY resemblance to the "divinity" contained in her extrait form 😔 At all Tis as if they are completely different scents even 🤷🏽♀️❓️ As they say , take your pick: Either • "YOLO" 👌🏼 🥳 or • "Go BIG or go home " 😅

Fleur de Feu, from a love that cannot be told to the world. In June 1940, Paris was at war. Jacques Guerlain's beloved son Pierre is critically injured during a border mobilization. In 1949, Guerlain's storefront sold Fleur de Feu - the flower of fire. In memory of Pierre. Deep, reserved and gentle. A cluster of fire that does not burn the soul, shaped like a bloom. A few drops of 1950-year EdT. Violet, mimosa, heliotrope, iris, before the standard ylang ylang-jasmine-rose harmonies are laid out in powdery textures, with an oriental touch of tonka bean inserted, the nectar is slightly sweet, and the vanilla is as soft as usual. In the end, the sandalwood silences the floral fragrance, and Fleur de Feu becomes more and more peaceful. There is really some Coty Muse meaning. Fleur de Feu borrowed from Coty Muse and changed Muse into an guerlain interpretation, planted the logo base Guerlinade on Fleur de Feu, completely remodeled its gene as a member of the Guerlain family, replaced leather with violets and mimosas, eliminated the smoky effect, and reduced the weight of sandalwood . Needless to say, whenever Jacques Guerlain recalls Pierre who died young, and looking back, does Jacques think of the warm moments he spent with Pierre? Clumsy in words, Jacques Guerlain conveys his mood through Fleur de Feu.

Didn't blow me away. Nothing really "fiery" about it. Opening with a lovely but standard with aldehydes, jasmine, lily of the valley and a hefty dose of sweetness from the slightly synthetic honey note. As it dries is opens up to more florals; mainly violet, acacia, ylang-ylang and iris; which is where this perfume is at it's best. Not unique but still great. It has that amazing vintage sandalwood and tonka bean with some vanilla in the end.

The synthetics make this a hard no. Natural honey extractives are divine, but the synthetic honey, heliotropin, and synthetic lily of the valley make an acrid combination. This smells more like something poisonous than a perfume. A scrubber all the way.
