Idylle Eau de Parfum

The first Idylle I got was gifted to me by a lovely neighbour with whom I became good friends after chasing her down the road to ask what she fragrance was wearing. She so kindly bought me a 30mL bee bottle, which before long I needed to replace with a 100mL bee bottle. As that one is now getting on the low side, and seeing that the new version in the 75mL bottle pictured was on sale, I’ve bought two more, just in case it’s on the chopping block (I’ve lost so many beloved fragrances to discontinuation). This fragrance smells identical to my bee bottle versions, which was a huge relief to me, and hopefully to anyone here who might be hesitating based on the bottle change and slightly different note structure from the other Idylle entry on here. My review on the original still stands; this is just such a beautifully blended and balanced floral musk, with a hint of bitterness in the opening, and which dries down to the most gorgeous, slightly sweet fragrance. I absolutely love it. Occasionally I layer it with Glossier You, and sometimes I add a couple of spritzes of Waterlily Tea Dress (Jo Malone for Zara) when I want to smell like a garden just after the rain. But Idylle doesn’t really need anything else; it’s perfection on its own.

I walked through the Marais streets and found the Guerlain Flagship store, what a treat! Wanting a Guerlain fragrance for years but had not been able to find it. Also the prices were high. In Paris I tried L'instant, Lui. Both really beautiful scents, but not for me. Back home I discovered Idylle, actually through this site! By the decriptions I figured it might be something for me. The notes, the Chypre. I ordered a miniature of the golden teardrop bottle and fell in love. The opening of Lily of the valley, the beautiful chypre in the middle and beautiful drydown. Very mature, almost niche, sophisticated. Now hoping it will be in stock again where I live in the reformulated Legendaires version. I do see the resemblance with Narciso for her, but for me Idylle is more chic and soft. More subdued. The bee bottle though.... Just gotten from my husband! A gem! I finally found my Guerlain! Longevity is very poor, but the gesture of him giving me this makes up for it. And maybe I can layer it with Narciso or with a good lotion. I think the new bee bottles have been watered down in formulation, so maybe when I finish this I will get the 2021 bottle. The Beebottle is gorgeous though!

Excellent projection. Soapy, clean, wet! A beautiful and lush dewy garden. You meander through in a white linen nightgown in early dawn light. You follow an organic path that is lined with lily of the valley, peonies, rose, and jasmine. The pale pink glow of the rising sun greets you and there is birdsong bidding good morning. This is... beautiful. It would be wonderful for a bride. It is not a synthetic perfume. Idylle is exactly that: idyllic. It reminds me of the ending scene in pride and prejudice, when Mr. Darcy makes his way across the field to Elizabeth and they both confess their love. You can smell the white musk and jasmine in the background, but I don’t get the white lily scent. I’ve been seeking out lily of the valley fragrances, but have been left... somewhat wanting. I’ve realised after this that it’s because they have been somewhat one-note, whereas this is a symphony. Lily of the valley is a star, for sure, but it is bolstered by a blooming orchestra behind it. This is also a much, much more elevated Dior Blooming Bouquet with better longevity and a lily of the valley focus.

What a pretty perfume. A Very crystalline bouquet of pure white florals,. White lilac, Lily, lily of the valley, white roses, white peonies, freesia, jasmine. Yes, there are fruits here but they are added to enhance the bouquet instead of standing out on their own. The florals are lightly enhanced by a soft musk and very soft patchouli. This is very strong IMO and very little is needed, could become a bit overwhelming if over sprayed but if applied with a light hand this is such a lovely and feminine perfume. Extremely ladylike. I see this as the perfect garden party, bridal shower, wedding, Easter Sunday type of fragrance. It calls for a very formal daytime spring early summer setting. IDK if I will spring for a FB I need to wear it a bit more before I make that call but it is so lovely, feminine, and ladylike that it does register with the clutching my pearls side of myself lol. I do love the 1950s style and this perfume smells like something Grace Kelly or Doris Day would have worn. Edit: wearing this now I want it. Pair it with Beekman 1802 lilac body lotion absolutely beautiful!

Bitter, green, musky and floral. Nothing creamy or noticeably powdery here (to me), but that doesn't lead me to call the fragrance 'fresh' necessarily. Yes, it has a soapiness (almost shampoo) to it, but, crucially, this perfume feels humid. Even smelling it from the bottle conjures a sense of someone's body heat warming up the smell- if it is shampoo, the shampoo has been used, rinsed, and the scent is lingering in a living person's hair... Recently, this humidity has led me to associate the fragrance with the idea of clean warm skin under a knitted jumper. Or giving someone a hug when they're fresh out the shower. An interplay of wet and dry- clean and lively. Maybe it's a little fizzy, perhaps it's springlike, outdoorsy, green, or a little earthy, but all of this is carried through by a marked human presence. Floral notes are finely blended- I don't detect a single dominant flower. I think Idylle is genuinely a joy to wear- something a bit different.

It is a realistic perfect bridal bouquet of opulent white flowers. Romantic, whimsical,innocent, very sophisticaed and to some extent naive, as its creator Thierry Wasser pointed out. The composition is so good that I am just enjoying the scent of the bouquet rather than trying to identify each individual note. It is a very tiny bit soapy. Still, I would say that the most prominent in here is lily of the valley and a subtle non-sweet lily. The notes don't mention lilacs, but I think the combination of flowers gives some hint of lilacs too. The perfume is not heavy or oily, it is strong, but more watercolourish and airy. I believe it is extremely underrated. Not sure about the sillage yet, but the longevity seems to be great!

Imagine a calm, beautiful spring morning where sun is shining and birds are happily twittering. Soothing, comforting and joyful, isn’t it? Idylle gives a similar feeling :) It’s a beautiful bouquet of realistic white flowers. Incredibly feminine, lovely and delicate, but also with a character. Lily of the Valley is a leader on my skin, but the rest follow her gracefully and together they create a beautiful, floral symphony. Very well blended! Patchouli is giving a bit more power, but it’s not too strong. Musky base makes the composition to be even more feminine and soft. If you like floral perfumes and are looking for a fragrance that will take you to the most beautiful garden ever - look no more, Idylle is your girl! :)

I love it cause there is a bit of bitterness,just the right amount, which makes me go back wanting more wondering what is it. I absolutely love this scent but I really would like if they hadn't reformulated it so much. Something is missing which thr older versions had but I can't pin point it. Plus I wish they hadn't made all the bottles the same. I miss having the old bottle.

Classy, gorgeous, and timeless. So clean and effortlessly chic. There is something that reminds me of Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger, I guess it's the jasmine/rose/musk, but Idylle is less exotic, more linear, and cleaner because unlike Fleurs d'Oranger, there is no cumin in Idylle (thank goodness). IMO, a beautiful white floral never goes out of style.

i usually dislike "fresh" florals. they give me a headache. but idylle is so soft, so beautifully blended that i cant help but love this. it reminds me of spring in a city frozen in time, very elegant. it may be boring to some or not have that classic guerlain dna, but it just evokes so much joy in me. had to get a full bottle simply because of that.

Edit: a couple weeks later. The bottle has been sitting in the box and in cupboard. It settled. When I got it, it came straight from the airplane and maybe this had altered the molecules a bit? Idk. It still isn’t a loud fragrance but has more depth now and better longevity. Has anyone experienced this before? I love this fragrance!

I smelled this one at Sephora. It smells soo good. It gives me that sophisticated adult messy french woman vibes in a kind way. Its not average. It reminds me of something but i dont know what that is. It lasts long for me but it does not have that good silage. I want to have that one so so much. It can be so good signature scent

Love this perfume so much! It gives me sunny feelings, joyous and hopeful. Even though no linden listed in the pyramid, it smells very much linden on me - which I truly enjoy. Have been wearing this for years. Many different bottles have come and gone, but boy Idylle is always there. Many more years to come!

This is a beautiful fresh, white floral perfume, reminding me of me walking through fields of lily-of-the-valley on a sunny day, wearing a white linen dress, not a single worry on my mind. A clean girl perfume, but with an edge. What a meadow fairy would smell like.

Gorgeous fresh floral, the white florals are quite indollic, not for everyone. Smells luxurious and femenine. The musk here gives a warm sensual feel. Mature, womanly and reminiscent of other time... 10/10.

I get a delicate white floral bouquets inc Lilly of the valley, jasmine & peony but the rose to me is tea rose ( with an ever so slight bitterness- this is not a negative by any means )

I find this opens sparkly and slightly sweet while carrying gentle musky moss notes. I crave it as a morning scent. On me, it becomes a soft floral skin scent that is very feminine.

Beautiful, balanced and elegant. Just pure bliss and sophistication. Interesting soft blend. I see a lady in long trench, heels, hair open wearing this.

I adore this one! ❤️ one of my favorites! It's elegant, classy and delicate! But the longevity on me is disappointing. I wish it could last longer!

This is what an angel smell like I imagine

A soft, delicately subtle and, above all, clean perfume. It’s as comforting as getting into a bed of freshly laundered pure linen sheets, but I wouldn’t call it fragrant in the sense of something so delicious that you want to smell it again and again. Unlike several others in the Légendaires Collection, there isn’t a harsh, jarring or cloying note in it. It is floral without being in the least bit sweet. Its very neutrality, bordering on blandness, makes it perfect to use first thing in the morning or to the office. It not heady, or even beautiful, and it doesn’t draw attention to itself. It is not interesting enough for evening wear but perfect for default daytime use at any time of year if you want something pleasant and unassuming. It’s the equivalent of dressing in neutral colours instead of brilliant ones. I imagine it was called “Idylle” on account of its peaceful, unassuming nature. But if this were your only perfume you would in time become frustrated, as you would realise that, all around you, there were far more beautiful and head-turning scents than this one. It’s a nice addition to one’s collection, being something a little bit different from most other types of commonly worn perfumes, but I can’t help feeling that it’s missing an extra note that might make all the difference between the “nice to have” and the “must have”.

I am as guilty of blind buying as I am of sampling fragrances I never go on to purchase, so today I decided to sample several perfumes I'd been on the cusp of a blind buy and Idylle was one of them. Idylle is a spring princess - she is a freshly cut bouquet of freesia, muguet, lilies and delicate pink roses with musky notes that could be pitter patters of baby breaths inserted here and there for interest. Although she is lovely (no one can deny), she truly does not belong in my collection.

What a beautiful smell of flowers and especially of roses! Intense, imposing and graceful at the same time! Ok, it's pretty classic, but I love rose. It's the only flower that can make me fall for a pure floral perfume. So, I love it. Not the kind of perfume I would buy often but still, I keep it in a corner of my memory... A magnificent perfume for lovers of flowers and especially roses, perfectly executed and not too sweet at all. Thank you Guerlain!

The opening notes of this reminded me of YSL Champagne / Yvresse - there was an evanescent fizz followed by a brief boozy fruity note before it settled down into a floral musk affair. I'd probably wear this in the (British) summer. I don't think I'll be buying a full bottle as a own vintage champagne and Yvresse.

There are some late 90s -2000s vibes in this one Very elegant fruity floral Yup, I can see it's a floral with no fruity notes, but my perception says the opposite:)

A very sophisticated clean floral scent. The flowers I associate with spring in a bottle - lily of the valley, peony with a base of clean white musk.

A nice musky floral bouquet, nothing more, nothing less.

Pretty, delicate, and soft flowers with a classy transparent top. Flowers and fruit but old fashioned French style, not the oughts. Several steps down in oomph from current reformulations of classic Dior. But pretty. Half the price online than in high street stores. Yet there are equivalent pretty fragrances for another 50% off this one at its discount price. 30 dollar sale bottles of Chloe for example.

I thought I was going to looove this especially seeing a lot of great reviews, but no...😕 there’s some flower in the mix that I don’t like, smells “old style” “cheap”. I left it to macerate for a bit thinking it would change or maybe I may end up liking it... but no... I will come back to it in the colder season she how I feel then about it

I still smell the fruit that was in the orginal EDP, even though it is not listed on the notes here on Fragrantica. However this Legendaires edition is not a good performer, at all. This entire collection is hit and miss. Sure they all smell like quailty but this version of Idylle is a miss. Find the original.

It is elegant and refined, clean - tenderness and crystal freshness of lilies of the valley in the bottle. Some green bitterness is there too. Upd: Can be suffocating in a warmer weather. And can cause headaches too. Alas.

Not bad but not special like a soft somky floral cotton

This smells shrewd, passive aggressive and cold. I think it's the biting, bitter greenness that isn't particularly pleasant to me. It reminds me of a compulsive, malevolent manager who desperately tries to present restraint and control but she's seething to sabotage and you sense a venomous nature from her energy. She maintains a clean and polished image presented by the layer of soapy white florals, but they cannot mask the deviant nature that continues to re-emerge.

This fragrance gives me french woman who hasn’t showered in a week vibes, to me some white florals have a “clean stink” which I’m not a fan of. I have the old bottle (frosted glass), I blind bought this fragrance and wouldn’t recommend doing so unless you know for sure you like all types of white flowers and don’t mind the “clean stink”.

I really wanted to love this fragrance. I appreciate its bright, luminous character and the presence of white florals I understand the intention behind it. However, for me the patchouli is the most prominent note from the opening, through the development, and even into the dry down. It feels strong and persistent within the composition, ultimately dominating the blend in a way that doesn’t align with my personal taste.

Can't find a difference from NR For Her EdP.

I'm not sure about this pyramid. I've tried the new edp version (the same bottle depicted above in the page) and I smelled quite prominent fruity notes, which I clearly distinguish as litchee and raspberry. However, these two are not in the new edp pyramid (but they were in the old formulation, the one in the drop - shaped bottle, which I never tried). Beside this, I really enjoyed the overall fragrance. Fruity note isn't too sweet, floral boquet is luminous and delicate, musk is not so prominent (my skin reacts badly to most of the musks, including Narciso Rodriguez's ones, but not Gueralain's version). I wish I'd able to detect lily of the valley, one of my favourite flowers, but -a part from freesia, peony, rose - I give more a feeling of an abstract floral boquet. Nevertheless, I like it.

Smells exactly like it did 10+ years ago. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL fresh floral opening...but the musky drydown is not so pleasant...it’s musty and sweaty, not a clean musk. I would feel self conscious wearing this. The opening is deceptively clean, romantic, and refreshing. It’s probably better for cool weather. I can see how that musky drydown can be mistaken for BO in warm, humid weather. It does remind me of Narciso Rodriguez EdP in the light pink bottle, same fluffy floral musk drydown, but that one has a cleaner musk in the drydown, and Idylle has a more beautiful opening. Not sure what’s causing that stink, maybe it’s one of the floral notes combining with musk and patchouli.

I just got this newer version today after having the original gold bottle years ago and I am happy to say it is as I remember. The fruit notes aren’t listed in this version but I still detect them there. This is floral with a hint of fruity, juicy and fresh, clean and elegant. It’s definitely the same genre as narciso but I never liked that one as much, it’s denser, muskier and doesn’t have the golden, sun-drenched feel that this one has. Might come back to say more but for now I still love this like I did years ago.

Mature and very poised. Beautiful and classy, soft and musky. You could compare it to the minimalist musks from Narciso Rodriguez, but this clearly comes from a high-end house with heritage. It feels like it has history, depth. I don’t love the phrase, but some would call it “old money” vibes. At the same time, it’s innocent and crystal clear, but also mature and a little mysterious. An interesting duality, definitely something I’m looking to add to my collection.

Idyll, both past and present, is a nice enough, pleasant fragrance, but is it a "legend"? I don't think so. Same with Champs Elysee, though I am happy that fans of these fragrances get to experience them again! Oh how I wish they chose Mahora!

This incarnation is absolutely beautiful! I’ve just tested it again after years of not having it and it’s a gorgeous spring flower bouquet. I can distinctly smell lilac, roses, lily of the valley and freesia. Spring in the bottle!

Delicate, beautiful, pure floral. Idylle smells like a pure lilacs and Lilly-Of-The-Valley bouquet. It's a very linear perfume, it smells the same as the time passes.

Very natural floral with musk, something Green and the realistic smell of white florals that grow in cold weather it’s pretty not sexy or fresh just floral musk

A powdery and soapy rose, quite forgettable. It's pleasant enough.

No lilac, litchi, and raspberry as in the original version.
