Jicky Eau de Toilette

Whilst Fougere Royale was the first fragrance to incorporate a synthetic material - coumarin - it was Jicky which took this idea and transformed perfumery as we know it. At the time of its release in 1889, most of polite society would have worn some sort of basic eau de cologne, and so the introduction of Jicky was truly outrageous and initially was too revolutionary for many. Jicky has a pronounced Cologne style, made up of hefty amounts of bergamot, lavender, basil and bay, underscored by a dominant note of rosemary. The lack of a central heart note creates a strange paradoxical effect, as though the entire composition is made up of radiant citrus and aromatic herbal notes. But after some time, you begin to detect the softness of the sandalwood, complimented by the sweet creamy nature of the coumarin and vanillin - delicately bolstered up by hints of civet. This is the first time a perfume would become sexual, abstract, and no longer would make the wearer smell like lemons or a bouquet of flowers. I absolutely love it. My bottle is only a few years old so I can only imagine how enchanting the original formulation must have been, but smelling this truly feels like experiencing a piece of history. The first ever fougere for women, but easily unisex by today’s standards. A staple lavender in my collection.

Jicky Toilette reminds me of my Mini of Ma Liberte by Jean Patou. A beautiful combo of bright refreshing lemon/citruses and aromatic rosemary and lavender w/ warmer deeper resinous notes and warm comforting spices. It is like warm meets cool, and they combine to create the perfect temperature on skin and in the mind. The only downside here is this has to be reapplied to keep that feeling going. I think I would opt for the perfume instead because it would be stronger. I wonder if the difference is that great? I do like this and was thinking of buying a full bottle of vintage Patou Ma Liberte, but I hate buying full bottles of vintage stuff online, there is always the worry that it has turned or that you are buying a fake. I would opt for a new bottle of this instead. If you like a refreshing tonic type of scent. One that will put a spring in your step, wake up your mind and clear your head, clarify thoughts and ideas and refresh the body this is that type of perfume. A woman on a mission, who can achieve her goals, reach her destiny. Also, Jicky can do the same for your boyfriend or husband as well. A fragrance to share w/ your partner.

It is a masterpiece and not because people tell you it is. At the same time it does smell like a farmyard, it just does. Maybe that's the part of the appeal. I smell hay and a lot of lavender and a big dose of civet up top which gives it that unmistakable fecal note that this perfume is a bit notorious for. There's just nothing quite like this perfume. It can make you feel as though you have spent most of your life on the back of a horse or hanging around your stable block. If that doesn't scream old money, I don't know what does. An innovative unisex perfume that smells just as wildly niche as it did when first made. The English Soap Company's English Lavender is a very close dupe but is a lot more vanillary rather than farmyard up top.

The bee bottle edt was love at first sniff. Beautifully aromatic, herbal, zesty, airy and refined, and with a vanilla to die for. The only downside is I wish it were just a little bit stronger and longer lasting. Still, I find it refreshing and invigorating, and so full of sunshine and happiness that I don't mind reapplying when needed. For me this magic elixir is like an antidepressant in a bottle whose scent makes me feel very upbeat and happy. And what could be better than that?! I absolutely adore this fantastic scent.

This smells like a bespoke perisian lemon candy nestled in the warmth of a woman's satin panties, whilst she's wearing them...after sex. I would add that it strikes a perfect balance of fresh, creamy, and powdery. Perfectly blended creation. Definitely the daytime younger sister to Shalimar.

I bought a sealed 3.1oz goute bottle that dates to '80-87. Chosen to celebrate my birthday ('84). Reminds me VERY much of Shalimar. Sillage is moderate and fleeting, 3 hours or so. I want the EDP or extrait now, too.

I was lucky enough to score two bottles at chemist Warehouse, one for me and one for my friend. Haven't seen any more for a back up bottle. Australia.

I guess fragrantica decided to add a page for the now discontinued EDT. I managed to get my hands on a bottle today, I found it at the bargain price of only $70AUD. These must be the last bottles left in Australia, if you live in Melbourne you can find them at Chemist Warehouse Plenty Valley (Mill Park). Call ahead, they'll put one aside for you. Honestly it's not something I would wear every day but I wanted it in my collection because it was the first perfume ever to use a synthetic molecule (vanillin) and is also the oldest perfume in continuous production.

A potent and all-annihilating ‘sugar’ note in Jicky sets in on the opening and never leaves. It is reminiscent of that kind of lemonade that is so sweet as to be undrinkable - or a particularly tooth-breaking synthetic-flavoured lemon candy. It is so potent on me that I semi-consciously worry about my teeth rotting, and just can’t relax with it on. On my skin, there are no herbs, or other aromatics. I am at a loss. If I were to be asked to name it, I would have called it ‘tooth breaker’ or ‘sugar-bomb’.

I tried this one at the airport the other day. I was reminded of Third Man by Caron in terms of scent. And also a touch of Pour un Homme de Caron. Third man has that understated raunchy civet quality, and Pour un Homme has the lavender vanilla. I think if I spraqyed them both on top of each other I might get a very close Jicky fragrance. Anyways, I think this can kinda be worn as a guy actually. I sprayed it on my wrist to try it. It does not smell obviously feminine, but it does lean and begin to be more feminine as the minutes go on, but still it is not dramatically obvious. It is on the feminine side though, so for me I might like to try Muchoir du Monsieur, but have yet to see that one. Think for Kiels original musk, and that is somewhat how it smells feminine vs masculine. That one also leans feminine, but is kinda unisex. but again it does have a feminine scent to it. Jicky is like that. By the way, I feel also that Kiehls has civet in it, it also has that dirt rauch kinda smell in it. I would possibly buy this if a women, if they like that somewhat skanky dirty unassuming sort of civet with lavender vanilla fragrance. It is not a sweet fragrance, but there is a touch of it. I think there was a touch of spicy and a touch of floral powderyness as it developed into the later stages. I thought it was a pretty nice fragrance really, but may not be as feminine as women may prefer.

I was gifted the 1988 rare flacon bottle with amber cap from a friend who was visiting Paris. I never really was into fragrance much until the last few years, and had never used it. I've had it since then and had just been sitting under my bathroom sink. I thought, surely, after all this time it would have gone rancid, but I just got it out and dabbed a few drops on and it's heavenly! Complex and long lasting, so well blended it almost brings tears to your eyes. It puts the fragrances of today to complete shame! THIS is the way all fragrances should waft - literally like flowers caught in the breeze on a mountain hike - but the aroma is not cloying or noticeably floral - the citrus, lavender, jasmine, rosemary, sandalwood, amber and benzoin in one glorious aromatic waft-so well combined the individual notes are not obvious - but the overall composition just radiates with subtle warmth. It is surprisingly modern and easy to wear. You need only a few dabs , and even with just that it is long lasting. Not my normal scent profile (clean, soapy, fresh laundry) - but THIS! it's divine.

Jicky has been out of reach for a very long time and finally its here. First thing to say is that i cant associate it to shalimar like at all. I do have latter, albeit in extrait, and i simply cant draw parallels between a semi sweet oriental and a funky fougere. I understand that both might share some notes, but proportions are waaaaay different. If anything out there that Jicky is related to it would be Eau d'Hermes. I know one was before the other, but Hermes seems to be an improved version. As for perfume - truly hard do describe it, its like a slightly dirty skin thats refreshed with a lemon juice. Like a scene from Malena, where Monica Belucci squeezes lemons over her body. Not repulsive, rather atractive. Not a BO or sweat note, but there is a touch of dirty. It is gender neutral, and would suit business casual style well. I see it tottaly appropriate for a daily wear anywhere anytime. Glad i finally got to try it, and i wont be chasing a bottle, neither edt not extrait. Eau d'Hermes is the one for me.

The most optimistic Jicky under the citrus sun, which shines more brightly in this version...the civet cat lounges relaxed. The animalistic is physically close to the skin. The old vanilla moss swirls in the summery powder mist. The tweed jacket is airy, woven with lavender linen. Throughout the day, a breeze of Jicky wafts through the white, unpressed shirt collar. I used to always wear the Eau de Parfum or Parfum de Toilette until I discovered the lightness of the Eau de Toilette. It feels more casual & relaxed for everyday wear, with the invigorating freshness of a classic eau de cologne without losing its known poise. A delight. Unfortunately, it is now only available directly from Guerlain boutiques in Paris, in the classic bee bottles from 125 ml upwards.

//Jicky edt// Well... :] This is my very first blind buy, I bought it online, aand my first impression is when I spray it, smells more masculine at first, and something here reminds me soo much at powder scent Felce Azzuro. After few minutes, it is real unisex, and after time became more warm and sweet. My edt doesn't last longer than few hours unfortunately, but it's lovely.

I love the way this bad character, bitter and enraged, who fidgets in the corridors leaving his angry and vengeful mark is overpowering my senses to eventually calm them down. Jicky is my substitutive father figure, my giant dragon mother, my weapon and my stormy refuge. Omg what would I become without this? I would be orphaned, harmless and fragile. But I’m not.

I wanted like this but there is a lingering smell of cat wee that ruins it all. I think I will have to go for a blend myself solution of something soft and leathery and some ambery lavender. It won’t be guerlain but it won’t be wee either. Edit. I have it- Shalimar and lavendula- perfect

My dear Jicky, my signature scent... I wore it when I was 20, I still wear it now many years later. Might be the oldest truly unisex perfume, like wearing a vintage haute couture dress, but still very modern.

Discontinued gem ( in this format, bee bottle 100 ml) complex, refreshing, deep, meditative, an experience one of a kind! Very few offers and very expensive nowadays.

I am not getting a “fecal note” from this perfume AT ALL. If anything... maybe saliva? Then it dries down quite pretty. Yall are weird
