Le Frenchy

Is it the price of timelessness ? This new edition of century old Eau de Verveine from PFP Guerlain, which itself was somewhat one of the first perfumes for men (very very revolutionary in 1908 ! ) as a more masculine (today we'd say unisex) interpretaion of the already by then perfume monument Cologne Imperiale is indeed quite pricy. It actually is a purist's frag, living history, probably not more expensive than the original version was at the time ... the price to pay for first quality natural ingredients. This frag is a lot more affordable when layering with it's female counterpart Cologne Imperiale : I sometimes spritz ECI first and add Frenchy 2 hours later - a great kaleidoscopic citrus verbana unisex scent l like a lot, underlined by Frenchy's original salty (ambergris) & woody base notes still enveloped by Guerlinade. Comparing this with a nude verbana scent like Couvent des Minimes' recent release Verveine (also first class ingredients), I can see the artwork of the true perfumers, past and present, and this may have a price tag, indeed.

A true underrated gem, this fragrance is now my go to for daily wear. The opening is a bit harsh, with verbena and citron giving a slightly citronella smell, but this quickly gives way to the vetiver and lavender, along with sage and neroli to give it depth and a woody freshness. The (I believe real deal) ambergris gives it a slight musky salty feel, that makes it cozy and ever so slightly warm. Tonka bean smooths out the base and you’re left with a perfect, classic citrus aromatic that takes the best from the past and brings it to the present. Many people complain about the price, but $250 USD for 100ml retail isn’t terrible, considering what many people pay for Creed fragrances. It is quite versatile, holding up to the hottest of south Louisiana days. I hear rumors this is moving into Guerlain’s new exclusive line and will be renamed “Frenchy Lavande”.

For a cologne Le Frenchy is one potent fellow. Just the other day I sprayed it on my chest before I went to bed. On the verge of falling asleep, yet still awake, a sense of despair overrun me as I detected my dog trying to turn my dream experience into a nightmare by shooting one of her killer silent farts straight at me. Le Frenchy came to my rescue and pushed away the wave of horror. Ah, the relief. But my dog is a fighter. A second round soon followed, not that silent this time, yet again Le Frenchy stood tall and quickly beat off the assault. It made me smile and appreciate this beautiful fragrance even more. I fell asleep safe in my Frenchy’s arms. I love this perfume. Le Frenchy is a prime Guerlain, evocative and wonderful. And for once I was reminded why people started making fragrances in the first place. *****

On my skin, it is a zesty citrus aromatic leafy green floral fragrance with an ultra clean and elegant vibe. It opens with zesty lemony Verbena leading to a fresh, clean, slightly soapy leafy floral heart of Petitgrain, Neroli, soft Lavender and sage. The base consists of Vetiver, slightly sweet Tonka and very realistic smelling and somewhat salty Ambergris. The scent smells very natural and the different notes that fold out one after another are very easy to identify. It has moderate sillage on my cooler than average skin and quite long lasting. I would say it is excellent if the price could be more user friendly.

Very Satisfied with this expression. I put two sprays on my clothes this morning at 9h40. I traveled from Yaoundé to Kigali for about 13 hours arriving at 2h00 and smelled good the whole time. I was well received by airport staff; got a deal on extra luggage; had a nice conversation with an older gentlemen that set next to me on the Addis Ababa - Kigali leg ;and had 6 women stand around me on the shuttle bus. I find that there are some similarities to Guerlain Homme L’eau Boisee and L’eau de Guerlain but I would rate Le Frenchy higher. Most importantly my wife loves it.

One of my instant crush fragrances. First time I smelled it, I got addicted to it. On the long run, I wear it every once in a while but it's not my most worn fragrance. I do think I might be a little young to pull it off but I also think that it calls for at least a smart casual kind of outfit. I still do wear it as it is so elegant and enjoyable but only on days I want to have that intellectual but sexy vibe I sometimes like to have. The composition is incredible and you can instantly smell the quality of the ingredients used in this one.

Simply beautiful. A masterpiece of perfumery which is now still available at an even more extortionate price as Frenchy Lavande (addendum: in the boutique they told me the new version has an added "touche de lavande", but to me it's identical). Worth it? 🤷 I bought a 2/3 full bottle from Etsy, the only cheaper option I could find on the whole internet, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to let go when it's finished. I'd better start saving!

A classic French masculine aromatic scent. The perfume opens with citrusy notes and verbena. The heart is lavender, sage, neroli and petitgrain. The perfume settles on an ambergris bed surrounded by hints of tonka bean and vetiver. Crisp, clean and fresh and most beautifully natural. Sauvage has a similar vibe but just can’t hold a candle to this beauty because of the synthetics. Enjoy!

This is fabulous. Found it on line for a decent price, knew it was being discontinued so had to get it. It is listed as a masculine fragrance but it is really unisex. Fresh initial blast but mellows into a warm comforting scent, true Guerlain. Not sure how to even describe this but if you love Guerlain, you’ll love this. Grab a bottle before it’s too late.

A fresh and clean, yet robust masculine fragrance. It has that neroli cologne vibe that Guerlain totally rocks with this gentleman vibe too. Very mature, if you like to dress well and have a smooth and confident personnality, this is perfect. It's perfect in every sutiation but I like wearing it in a suit in the spring. Classic and wonderful.

I just love fragrances with harsh top notes but a gorgeous dry down. Just wait for the top notes to calm down and you will discover one of the most comforting dry down. Performances are moderate. I would buy this in a heartbeat, but the price is just too high. Exquisite fragrance.

This is wonderful. Simple, bright, green, herbal, then softer and magical. Ingredients smell freshly picked and still green and wet. Groundbreaking and unique? No. The shining example of this style? Yes. Masterpiece. Update: the best citrus aromatic I've ever smelled. Period.

The opening is bracing, by the dry down! Gorgeous: citrus, green, with a touch of warmth that develops continually. I feel like it bears some resemblance to Jicky, which I also think is heavenly. I would love to smell this on a guy, but until then I'll wear it for myself.

Tried this at the Guerlain Boutique in the Bellagio in Las Vegas. A wonderful, fresh citrus scent - that actually lasts! Elegant, zesty and classy. Great stuff!

A supreme summer delight, citrusy musky goodness, absolutely fantastic.

Le Frenchy is an elegant, classic citrus scent, with slightly herbal rather than floral character, touch of ambergris, and sub-average longevity for an EDP. According to Guerlain, this is, allegedly, a re-orchestration of vintage Eau de Verveine. So there you have it. There is nothing more I can write about this composition, and the real reason for this review is a different one - something that’s been puzzling me for a long time. Namely: why does Guerlain (and many other houses as well) keep duplicating its repertoire with increasing force? I mean, Le Frenchy is essentially L’Eau Boisée’s flanker with a higher price tag! When it comes to citrus scents, Guerlain already has a whole array of those, including Eau de Guerlain which is absolutely genius and simply cannot be beaten, certainly not by Le Frenchy! So this whole thing doesn’t make any sense to me, other than fulfilling some “quotas” when it comes to number of yearly launches, in the endless market battle for customer’s attention. This is simply insane, and it happens more and more often. It leaves me perplexed and sad, because Guerlain means a lot to me. I’ve been familiar with their fragrances from my early childhood, and have been their customer and follower for nearly 40 years now. I hope this mad “rat race” will finally come to an end, and Guerlain goes back to the quintessence of what made the house great in the first place: quality, not quantity!

Not a big citrus guy until recently; not sure if it's the California summer (3 out of 4 seasons) or because niche houses are upping their citrus games—no longer are they boring, "sour" or overly bitter, instead fresh, lively, and sometimes with a twist. This is such a case with its classy yet modern masculine interpretation with strong herbal qualities! Once the citruses fade you're left with an almost-spicy lavender & sage, along with the almost-bitter remains of citron & verbena; unfortunately, not much after that, and it only lasts 2 hrs (4 if you count gluing your nose to the skin). *I don't smell much neroli

I like how the name perfectly evokes what this perfume radiates - it is the classic French school at its best. To my nose, this is very close to YSL Pour Homme, but has the vibes of Channel Pour Monsieur. I’m really surprised there is no moss listed as the drydown is quite mossy. This is old-fashioned, so won’t garnish compliments with young folks, but does not feel dated and being classic style gentleman cologne it also will never go out of fashion. If you are ready to pay the substantial ask price for what it is, you won’t be disappointed.

Guerlain Le Frenchy (2017) - verbena vetiver - This discontinued, relaunched & renamed to Herbes Troublant by #thierrywasser is a refreshing aromatic fougere. Starts with Verbena, Bergamot and Lemons - soapy, green and tart. At its heart, Clary sage’s duality comes into front - animalic yet herbaceous, combined with Neroli creating an uplifting yet floral heart. As it dries down, I get Vetiver and the clary sage smelling more amber-like.

This is the most overpriced/overhyped perfume in the market. It is very good quality yet simple citrusy, herbal & very dry perfume. But does it worth the asked price?

Hotel lobby smell! Pleasant but not for a perfume!! It literally smells like a nice hotel lobby!!

Le Frenchy is a great citrus herbal cologne with healthy longevity. Silage is not that great. However price is a bit too high for the cologne

Works wonders to keep mosquitoes away from biting you. It reminds me of strepsils Lozenges so it’s giving me sore throat vibes, I hate it.

I’m not amazing at recognising notes. In fact I’m quite poor at it. Maybe better than your average muggle but certainly it’s not my super power. I particularly struggle with differentiating herbal notes. So as soon as I smelled this I was pretty pleased with myself as the tarragon note was so obvious. It’s got a herbal greenness to it but also an almost aniseed note. It’s unmistakable. It immediately conjures up memories of cooking with my mum when I was a kid and using tarragon. Of course tarragon isn’t listed. So much for my self congratulation. But whatever. To me this is a citrus and tarragon fragrance. Verging on aniseed. It’s very polite and dries down to a pleasant ambergris and earthy vetiver base. Very very classy as you’d expect from Guerlain. Not beast mode. But ideal summer wears

I tried this on my skin and on paper the other day at Guerlain counter in Saks fifth avenue. It opens with crisp and sharp citrus notes. The dry down is a mellow and somewhat comfy floral-herbal-citrus scent. Clearly we have a classic citrus scent here. They say this is a reinterpretation of Guerlain's classic fragrance Eau de Verveine. I totally see that! In dry down it reminds me of Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Essence Aromatique from recent launches. This one is more rounded and more mellow while Bottega Veneta creation has more texture and is a bit sharper. Overall Le Frenchy is a very pleasant classic citrus scent which can be interesting to Guerlain collectors.

A very, very nice, herbal, green, slightly soapy top-shelf Citrus Aromatic that stands on the same lofty shelf as Dior Eau Sauvage EDT. Eau Sauvage is my favorite Citrus Aromatic ever, but Le Frenchy is on that level. Le Frenchy is in the same wheelhouse in scent profile as the great Eau Sauvage, but is even more herbal, green, and maybe a bit more tart and soapy. Eau Sauvage is brighter and more effervescent. And I love that Les Parisiens collection Le Frenchy bottle design!

Smells good enough to buy, especially if you love your citruses. Its a Fresh, Citrus, Spiced pungent scent. it has a once its in the air, it'll slap you in the face notification

It smells good. A comforting verbena citrus cologne. Performs like a cologne too. But is a simple citrus scent worth this "exclusive" price of 215 euros? You know my answer.

Riiffs does a clone of this fragrance and it's called Freshly.
