Les Voyages Olfactifs 02 Paris-New York

I am head over heels in love with this fragrance--it has all the elements I look for. Simple, layered, strong ingredients blended with a gentle hand; clean, a little dry with a natural, wooded sweetness and soft spice. Somewhat of a skin scent that amplifies my being. A departure from Guerlain's classic hallmarks, New York is minimalist and modern, yet has enough body to satiate my senses. Equally as impressive as Les Voyages Tokyo--Guerlain proves to be a master in the art of simplicity as well as complexity made famous by its more popular, early creations. There's probably nothing more to be said as I really don't think it's necessary to overthink this one for me. I just know that I have an affinity with it and would perhaps consider buying the 8.5oz jug (which appears to be the only size available), because personally I find this very wearable, comforting and versatile--a Les Voyages I could get a lot of mileage out of.

I'm not sure why this fragrance doesn't receive much love. It is much more interesting than the notes on Fragrantica would lead you to believe. I own the original large bottle and it included a list of "ingredients". It actually is meant to smell like Christmas in New York and has a roast duck accord and notes of cherry blossom and toasted hazelnuts. None of these are listed in the Fragrantica notes. I think it smells amazing and totally unique. My bottle will finally be finished this holiday season and I am so sad because I will not find a replacement for this one-of-a-kind smell.

I'm not sure which note is coming across as sweat but I'm lovin' it! I love everything about this one. Silly review but I don't want to forget this one!

Guerlain Les Voyages Olfactifs Paris-New york (2009) - cardamon-vanilla cigar box - Discontinued. #thierrywasser combines the fresh yet creamy Cardamon pods and a well-balanced Cedar accord. Starts with the usual Guerlainesque Bergamot top, but that morphs quickly a spiced Cinnamon and Cardamon heart. At this stage, I already get pencil shavings, florals, spicier notes of black pepper apart from the aromatic heart. As it dries down, the Guerlain vanilla-amber becomes fuller and richer and becomes a beautiful veil to a traditionally masculine accord.

I received a decant of this in a swap, and I am really enjoying it. It's a scent for getting things done at work, going to a business meeting,or maybe going shopping, running errands in the city. I think that the notes make it very versatile in terms of seasonal wear, you won't suffocate anyone if you wear it in the summertime, although it is maybe more suited to Fall weather. It has a sophisticated, quintessentially Guerlain backbone, but it's a bit modern and not at all edgy.

I find the opening very interesting.Resembles the initial notes of many Guerlain's classic frags, but milder and gentle.Then quickly turns to a very elegant vanilla -cedar combo with just a hint of cinnamon and cardamom.Surely, it is a cold weather perfume because of the woody base with a hint of spicy sweetness.

14. October 2021 My review is for the original release in a huge 245ml bottle. Always kept in the dark inside it ́s box, so the notes should be intact. First of all, like Tlund said already, the notes are incomplete: the original release has a leaflet in the box, and i am not sure if those are the notes, that are drawn in that leaflet, or just a source of inspiration for the composition, so i will just name them (in french, as they are written over there, not to mislead anyone with my translation). Promenade olfactive a New-york: cerisiers, pruniers, feux d ́artifice, roses, petits pais italiens, laque, narcisses, jonquilles, cedres&pins, orange, canelle, canard, cardamome, epices, humus. (cherry trees, plum trees, fireworks, roses, Italian rolls, lacquer, daffodils, cedars & pines, orange, cinnamon, duck, cardamom, spices, humus.) If you look at these notes and smell the perfume simulatenously, then it makes more sense, than the notes, that are listed above. Upon initial application it smells like a nutmeg, but i guess it is a either note of actual hummus or combination of notes, that indeed makes it smell like hummus ( if you have been eating it, then you know what smell it has). I really do not like the opening at all. It kind of smells like Christmas table (one should have a wild imagination to get it), due to spices and wood combination, but after the opening phase is over, then you get to the very linear and basic scent itself. Some say it ́s a famous trademarked Guerlinade accord, but i do not anything about that, as i am not a huge Guerlain fan, so for me it is just a boring scent. Daffodils/narcissus, very faint plum/cherry mix and that artificial note, that i would also name a lacquer accord. At certain point it actually smells sort of "La petite robe noire" due that cherry/lacquer accord. I cannot say much about this fragrance rather, than it is simple and quite linear. It does not worth the money they ask for it for sure. I remember i have paid bit over 100 euros for it back in the day, but now the prices are ridiculous for this bottle. Very basic, inoffensive, linear fragrance with low projection. Do not remove this comment because it is not praising something you might like. I strongly believe negative comment is as useful as the positive one, especially for those, who are buying blindly, based on reviews.

the beginning is retro, but pleasant.. definitely not old-lady-like.. but then it quickly turns to something in between rubber and plastic, yuck .. definitely nothing feminine about it.. and a definite no-no for me :(

Guerlain NEW YORK opens with just a flash from Guerlain's past--a touch of powdery vanilla that evokes memories of some of their great classics. From there, the smokey, ashy, even burnt wood takes over. This stage lasts quite a while and reminds me of a smoke-filled upscale bar. The drydown eventually becomes a slightly sweet, less burnt woodiness. I am unsure as to why this would not be equally appropriate for gents as for dames, as the middle, staid, burnt-wood stage is rather long, and there is no point at which I would describe this composition as "feminine". I like this creation. I was relieved and am hopeful that Guerlain has finally abandoned its ill-conceived quest to fill the olfactory world with candied raspberries and plastic violets. However, my relief notwithstanding, the price of NEW YORK seems entirely too steep. I have a decant, which I will indeed use, but I have no intention of adding a full bottle to my collection. Update: I just discovered that the cost per milliliter is quite reasonable ($1), but they are selling this series in the perfume equivalent of gallon jugs: 250ml, which is too much, unless one happens to be enamored of the scent, which in this case I am not...

To me this smells nothing like christmas at all. I am quite shocked by the suprise that practically arrested me in the most brutal fashion. I have tested around 1200 fragrances over the last 20 years and I do like the Guerlainesque perfume character, but this is disappointing in a league of its own. I do not, by any means, recognize any of the notes that the fragrances is supposed to be mede of. I have never smelled a worse outcome in my entire life. This is absolutely horrible.

Tigerlillian said it so well I won't try to re-invent the wheel. I will only say that there is a bow to the classic original Guerlains in the topnote of 'New York' and then the fragrance moves on to much more modern notes of cardamom, bergamot spice and wood. The final effect is of a rather dry cool but spicy fragrance. I don't really get Christmas from this, but it is modern and sophisticated and definitely a Guerlain scent. It is my favorite of the Guerlain Voyages series.
