Mitsouko Eau de Cologne

This is the stuff that demonstrates to me why Mitsouko is eternal and a masterpiece for the ages. I'm not sure when mine was produced but I seem to recall the montre bottles being in stores in the 80s and 90s. It absolutely blows the more recent, post IFRA EDP I also have, which to be honest, sort of left me shaking my head and wondering what all the fuss was about. The EDP is just so dry and austere. While still a very dry fragrance, the EDC provides little snippets of sweetness from the peach and florals, more bittersweet, not unlike the doomed tale of two lovers that inspired the fragrance. Now excuse me while I drown myself in it!

I own 90’s bottle and I easily spill the juice everywhere. Damn, it so hard using splash bottle... I swear I love L’heure Bleu” but.. At very certain time.. that I don’t need anything tuff. I normally pick Mitsouko. A spices that cool, mossy labdanum. Quite, It’s my quiet place, like a pawn in a dark forest. I often rest my journey here. I feel a peace.

I've heard tell that the EdC is the penultimate Mitsouko variation; it's round like the EdP and airy like the EdT. I hate to say "the best of both worlds" but it sort of is. And it has good lasting power for a cologne. Nice!!

Hooray! Finally! An entry for the EDC. Of all the formulations (the 7 or 8 I have sampled) the current EDP is my favorite to wear. However, the cologne is an important piece of the puzzle and my 200ml montre is the prize of my collection. I own and have sampled the cologne in two formulations: both screw top, one from the 90s and one from the 70s or early 80s. The 90s cologne has held up very well and is wearable. It compares to the current EDT (but without any sesame oil/bread note present in the '00s EDT) and remains for about 4 hours. The older EDC is more complex and tenacious. My bottle is a 200ml with about 120 remaining, and it's been used with abandon (i.e. there's plenty of dust floating around in it). The opening is dull and the aroma is muted but the tenacity is incredible. I applied some with a cotton pad and left the cotton pad in a cupboard. The cotton pad gave off a distinct chypre aroma for weeks, and the pad continues to hold the aroma MONTHS afterwards. The cologne lacks the presence and depth of denser concentrations. But sometimes that dark whisper is just what the occasion calls for. In short, the older EDC performs as a vintage perfume with distinct top middle and base phases and a prominent oakmoss drydown. It's not as rich as the vintage parfum, but also escapes any mustiness that the parfum exhibits. In my opinion, current formulations are more wearable but are admittedly less congruous (perhaps less brash?) than vintage formulations. Would love to try the 80s spray cologne.

Having sampling many Mitsoulos over the years, in all concentrations. I have found my love! My glass capped montre flacon has say for many years on my home vanity, far away from the competition it would have with those cramming the shelves at the shop. On a whim, on a warm summer’s evening, with a tinge of forest smoke in the air, this presented as the most balanced, wearable, and inviting of all her incarnations. My vintage splash bottle opened with a harsh alcoholic vintage bite. Within the minute, citrus was and Vetiver came alive, swarmed by a spicy peach True Oakmoss anchors this fruity chypre. Brilliant in this affordable and often found composition

Masterpiece of Masterpieces! It’s a beautiful melody of fruit floral spicy woody mossy. People nowadays try to looking for something beautiful at the front. Definitely Mitsy inpired heaps of creations. It’s beautiful perfectly and no gender.
