Petit Guerlain

Okay this is insane I shouldn't be this enamoured with a perfume created mainly for young children but here I am. The first spray from this vintage 100ml bottle that I've just acquired was meh, but after mixing with some fresh air, the next spritz on my skin was a lot more pleasant. I wasn't expecting the scent to last any more than a couple of hours but it's still going strong on my skin and I catch whiffs of lavender and mimosa in the air as I move around. It's a cosy, pleasant little scent bubble that reminds me of the part of my childhood that I'd spent with my younger sister. Going forward, I might spray this on my linen instead of on myself because I prefer different scent profiles on my body but am not opposed to being enveloped in this when going to bed. Dreams of innocence and simpler times in life are a very welcome respite from the chaos of modern living.

The other day I bought Yardley's April Violet without expecting anything. I put it on my wrist and casually blew on my wrist...! It reminded me of this Petit Guerlain! I'm surprised, but I'm happy. This Petit Guerlain is an old one, and I have the one in the picture above and another one in the same bottle as the current LES EAUX series. Compared with April Violet, these are naturally different scents, but I think they are very similar.

This fragrance reminds me so much of my childhood. When i couldn't sleep my parents gave it to me and for whatever the reason is it helped me to sleep. So this reminds me of my bed and my bears. Now when I look at the shop of Guerlain they made one for girl and one for boys wich is kind of heartbreaking because i'm quiet sure that the scent of my childhood has disapeared.. and they look hard to find so yeah, that's really sad.

Today I tried this fragrance and I like it a lot. I used the EDT and, on me, the citrus predominates. I was looking for a light powdery citrus scent for summer and this one seems to be just right.

I have a vintage miniature of Petit Guerlain from the nineties. Scents created for children are a curious idea, but this one is so lovely that it would be a fitting albeit unusual gift for a newborn. A calming scent, very soft and tender, this is indeed a comfort blanket in a bottle, to paraphrase venussansfurs below. Alcohol-free and natural-smelling (as to be expected from such a product), this is ideal for « les petits » of all ages! PG opens with a soft hint of aromatic lavender, reminiscent of Sudocreme (an Irish nappy cream staple) with some violet and the merest hint of citrus, unusually soft and blurred. It becomes akin to baby powder, with some sweet mimosa and soft, powdery vanilla notes emerging. There is a hint of rose in there if I look for it, and something akin to anise - which together with the vanilla is a nod to the famed Guerlinade accord. As it develops, a touch of musky, slightly lactonic baby smell joins the soft powdery floral-vanilla accord. It fades to a powdery whisper after about two hours. This is a delicate skin scent with intimate sillage and fleeting longevity. Best used when unwinding - for example in an aromatherapy context, at bedtime, as a pillow spray etc. Or, of course, as a gift for a baby. Wonderfully soothing and beautiful in context. 3.5/5.

Composed by Jean-Paul Guerlain with Olivia Giacobetti. A soft mimosa-floral, with a bit of Guerlinade from the tonka and vanilla. I find it thin and sharp in the winter (I thought the EdT had gone off, it smelled so weird), but a little warmth brings out the whole chorus of notes, so for me it is a three-season scent. I've never had anyone ask "what smells like baby powder?", but your mileage may vary. The citrus and lavender seem to be fading--I'm guessing the vintage bottles that are still out there will only keep for so long. Those looking for a replacement might enjoy Bvlgari's Petits et Mamans. The Bvlgari is more orangey and adds peach, but they are both soft and inviting "hug me" scents, easily wearable by adults. The two scents share soft citrus notes, lavender, chamomile (I think), rose-vanilla, and a sort of fatty, milky, baby's head accord that's hard to describe. I'm guessing the new Petit Guerlain (composed by Thierry Wasser in 2014) isn't much like the old one--the listed notes are very different--it keeps the mimosa but not much else (and adds orange blossom, pistachio, honey, and musk). Perhaps Guerlain was unable to continue offering original Petit Guerlain on account of the coumarin/tonka bean and other notes, following restrictions by the IFRA.

There is a milkiness and spiciness to this scent that predominates in the opening, the combination of which I don't like. After the drydown the lavender is soft and it becomes a sweet fragrance. The citrus tames the lavender, and tonka and vanilla tame the citrus. It makes you smell cleaner than you are! I think the mimose takes the dirt out of the jasmine, which is faint to begin with. This would be so sweet for my neice, who is two months old, but I don't know if my sister, who is sensitive to perfume, will let me apply it on the back of her daughter's neck and underarms, considering it's a used vintage I got in the mail and the bottle (not the juice) is discoloured, lol! Maybe if I told her a vintage full bottle costs over $200... sounds like more of a prize that way. Update: My sister let me put it on my neice! It *is* for babies. :) Just smells divine on her. Clearly, there aren't many more sophisticated things in the world than Guerlain perfumes, because my 2 month old neice just became worldly and elegant, lol. She smells like expensive lemons and fresh lavender.

I have a 50ml of this wonderful vintage and a generous 4ml sample of the modern Petit Guerlain. The vintage is more floral; mimosa dominant with a touch soapiness which makes the fragrance feel clean but not shampoo-y. The citrus notes add a soft tartness to the overall scent but they’re quietly humming in the composition, so is the lavender. I do pick up the Jasmine but everything is soft and sleepy-hazy. It’s a sunny day with fluffy clouds passing by. Whereas the modern Petit Guerlain is clear skies and sunny. The modern is orange blossom is dominant. There is a verdancy to the composition. Sweeten by filtered honey and a barely perceptible pistachio. It’s also clean and fluffy from the musk. If the two fragrances were colors: the vintage is muted yellow like maize and the modern is pastel yet soft yellow like canary.

May have been intended for children but for me this works as a comfort scent when I'm home and want something calming. It's a skin scent, very soft, and wraps itself around you like a warm blanket. It doesn't smell like a baby scent to me, I wouldn't want it if it did. The thing I like most about it is that it is natural-smelling, unlike some newer skin fragrances I've tried of the more synthetic laundry variety, which seem to be released at dime a dozen these days. This is older and I made sure to get the EDT rather than the non-alcohol version for more longevity. I don't want to smell the current version because I'm sure I'd be dismayed.

Odd, soapy-milky fragrance in the ugliest bottle Guerlain ever released. Not my taste - I much prefer the various Eaux de Cologne - but I can see how this would be pleasant on a child. It's supposedly an Eau de Toilette strength, but it's not particularly tenacious.

For those who doesn't know yet: Petit Guerlain is back... and dressed with the marvelous bee bottle... now it has two label colors... light blue or light pink! I LOVE YOU GUERLAIN!

It smells to me like milk, babies' bottoms and talc. I was hoping for something with light citrus, which is Tartine et Chocolat, but not this scent.

I smell mostly chamomile with mimosa

I received a 1996 vintage sample coffret bottle of this along with other Guerlain fragrances. Reading the notes listed on the box (orange, tangerine, lavender, mimosa, violet, and jasmine), it smells very different than I'd anticipated. This fragrance is extremely soft, but very approachable. It has the same appeal that Love's Baby Soft and Skin Musk have. Soft, young, powdery. Although I don't have an affinity for those scents, I find that I do appreciate Petit Guerlain and wondered if it might be a good introduction to fragrance to my 4 year old daughter. I don't pick up the orange or tangerine, I do get a soft whiff of lavender, violet, and mimosa, although it smells different than the mimosa in Champs-Elysees. It's mostly mimosa, but it does smell musky.

Petit is a French word for small and when you take a whiff of Petit Guerlain, you actually git why it has been named so? My first impression of the fragrance is innocence, and you get this feeling when you smell small children and babies who have just been dressed their best by their mums. Small children smell so lovely and so is Petit all about, light, airy, powdery and brushed with a hint of musk. If you ask my personal opinion on buying Petit Guetrlain, I would rather stick to my most favourite baby fragrance that's Johnson's baby powder as I feel there's no better fragrance has been made as yet.

This was actually designed for children. I worked with Guerlain at the time and it was mostly sold in an alcohol-free form for them. I love it still to this day and it's wonderful as a linen spray or if you ever miss the smell of a clean baby's bottom!

I have had this perfume when I was in gradeschool and yes, it is really for kids. For women who like to smell like innocent, school children, this scent works everytime. Best for sunny weather! I love it. :)

This one has unfortunately been discontinued, hasn't it ? :-/
