Shalimar Eau de Parfum (2009 Limited Editions)

This review is for Shalimar edp concentration. I did not like Shalimar at all until fairly recently. All my life I've heard of the legendary Shalimar. Over the years I would go to the perfume counter and either sniff the spritzer or test it on a paper strip, not being brave enough to spray it on my skin. Each time I can clearly recall my reaction of "that is horrible! Why would anyone buy that?" Years later after learning some things about fragrance, I ordered a sample. When I got it in the mail it took me a couple of days to work up the nerve to actually spray it on. When I finally did, the first few minutes where bad, I mean really bad. I had to restrain myself from jumping in the shower and trying to scrub it off. I'm glad I found the restraint that day, because about 7-10 minutes in I was in love! I am now obsessed with Shalimar! This is the most beautiful fragrance I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I now even enjoy the opening, I suppose because I know what comes next. The opening can be a little harsh and somewhat medicinal, but it does not last long. The heart of this fragrance is pure sensuality...like being in a cloud of hazy, hot sexiness. The dry down is still sensual but in a cozy, comforting way. Like being snuggled up in a blanket with someone you dearly love. Now that I have experienced Shalimar, I cannot imagine not having it in my collection! *side note* the notes listed above are not all of the notes in the edp. Also, as another person said, the juice in this bottle is the same as the regular edp, the bottle is just different.

I wear this quite often and I'm always in awe of how quickly my idea of what this scent is - I've not even tried a version older than 20 years. It's an elegant woman, a classy dame, and a classless flapper all at once. I may not have lived in the 20s, but this beautiful parfum makes me feel like I could. I don't know how much it's changed but I'd love to know. The bottle no longer screams art decor, but the juice inside is avant garde and totally in your face. Not pink, not pretty, not sweet. Heady, intoxicating and perhaps a bit like a cleaning product. It opens very strongly, with a strong citrus blast. Light lemon rind surrounding a very creamy bergamot cocktail. Dries down with vanilla, leather and iris. I'm sure there's more to it but I've never tried to decipher it. It's so meticulously blended that it shouldn't be dissected to much, lest it lose its mystery. The mood it creates is one of sensuality, you're a sexy being with one that you want. To be worn with cigars, or a cigarette on one of those cigarette sticks, with a nice gin drink. Still a complete 10/10

This is a slightly different from the day version, but in my opinion, not so nice. it did not stay for a long time on my skin as the Light Shalimar, which i , personally, absolutely adore.

Bug spray, vanilla, and powder. This is a disappointment. Sorry guys, but this isn't at ALL what it is cracked up to be.

Shalimar is usually instantly recognizable; a cavalcade of notes that somehow manage to synchronize perfectly. But versions of this scent tend to vary quite a bit, and in this particular one there’s a medicinal, metallic effect that cuts through the standard citrus to meet with a powdery vanilla, producing what I'd describe as redolent of effervescent candy. It reminds me a little bit of sherbet lemons—the same candied sweetness that walks a fine line between sour and sugary, only here the sour notes are rendered in a more industrial, disinfectant style. What’s strange about this version, though, is that it doesn’t bear much of a connection to the Shalimar that I’m more familiar with—that civet-y, marzipan-style scent that’s top loaded with crisp citrus notes. This version is gaunt by comparison, and seems to veer more towards clinical sterility than confection. I don’t dislike it (I actually don’t like Shalimar very much, so this might even be a step-up for me), but I’m not entirely clear what its aiming for or how this version wandered so far away from the original fragrance.

I went through a phase when I was checking out all the "older" fragrances I'd heard about in this forum in the store. I only sprayed them on the little paper testers and thought they smelled absolutely horrible. I had no idea how or why someone could actually wear these scents. This included Shalimar. After reading a review about the experience of another sceptic who sprayed it on her wrist and loved it I wanted to give it a try as well. And what can I say... It's absolutely gorgeous! I'm not hugely into the vanilla scent but this smells very subtle like vanilla and lemon with a hint of leather. During the wear it reminded me of the American Cream conditioner by Lush at times (whose scent I love). I am definitely very interested in acquiring a bottle for the fall/ winter as I've heard that it's the best time to wear this gorgeous scent. So for any skeptics out there - please give it a try!!

Just bought first bottle of Shalimar and have fallen in love with it. If you like a blast of heavy Indian scent changing to a beautiful powder like smell which lasts for hours this is the one. Sprayed it on about 5 hours ago and I can still smell it. Gorgeous Perfume

I have loved this perfume for many years now....delighted when I discovered it in USA...when I met my husband to be in England I was wearing a fragrance that had the same lovely fragrance...it was called Pagan, by Lentheric.

This is definitely the prettiest perfume bottle I have ever seen!! simply gorgeous. Not to mention that the fragrance inside is such a classic oriental - gourmant. A must for all of you fragranistas out there ;)

I finally smell this perfume, and exactly smells like the original Johnson baby powder. nothing else.

It's the same scent as the regular shalimar edp.. it's just in a limited edition bottle =)

The fragrance is astringent, sweet, spicy, elegant and classy, for evening application.
