Guess Man

OLD SCHOOL! And yet so dang charming... That pine note, overused for so long in the 80's and 90's, instantly makes me think "old man", but yet this is one pine scent that I really like! I'm pining over it even... ;D When I first started sampling scents, this was one of many that I bought tester vials of. Surprisingly, I feel the same way about it now as I did then: I loved it, but almost felt guilty about loving it, because of that old school reminiscent pine note. But the nutmeg and ginger (both old school notes, again) add a very soft powdery aspect that melds very well with the sandalwood. And I agree with everyone else - the sandalwood drydown might be the best part! Somehow it all comes together to be fitting for the time it was released and still modern enough for today. Im really surprised this goes for $15 a bottle and has so much dislike. I mean, I guess I can see WHY they dislike it, but it's a really charming scent nonetheless and I actually like this more than Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme and many other designer for men signature scents. The only thing I dislike is how much it reminds me of the original Grey Flannel, which is just old school and not charming at all. Then other times, it reminds me of Antonio Banderas "Antonio" for men, which is classic yet youthful, and shares the same "fir" note. Here's to hoping I meet a 30-something woman with daddy issues, because I'll be wearing this scent from time to time, and ain't none of you gonna talk me out of it!!! It may not be a crowd pleaser, but it's very charming. Plus, let's face it, I couldn't resell this one if I tried! :)

This review is based on first sniff after spraying on my wrist and wearing it for an hour or so. It's a very nice fragrance for man/women of all ages to place in his/her rotation for the upcoming warmer seasons. There's a good reason why Guess Man is one of the best sellers on Amazon... it's a great value and it smells incredible for the price. I blind purchased it for my summer rotation, but the moment I smelled this juice it reminded me instantly of Spring with its green/herbal freshness, fir and wormwood notes blended nicely with lavender, woody notes, and a touch of musk. It's not uber-masculine, but it's clearly a man's fragrance IMO. I loved how upon first sniff it immediately brought me back to a spring day in New England. However, it's not a so-called panty dropper by any means, and probably won't please fragrance snobs that think high price means higher quality... typical sheep. Pour this juice in a Creed or Dior bottle and it will become one of those houses best sellers. I'm really looking forward to Spring 2017 so I can rock this juice a few times during the season. It's a 100% day time fragrance and ideal for casual occasions. I'll update this review in April on its projection and longevity, or lack thereof. But I might have a long wait because today is Groundhog Day and Punsxutawney Phil saw his shadow. So I suppose its another 6 weeks of winter. Oh well... give me a beer!

The third fragrance I ever purchased (right after Hollister unisex cologne and Hollister Jake). I was 19, and found it in the Guess store in Honolulu which I’m guessing doesn’t exist anymore. It will always be associated with Hawaii when I took a school trip there my senior year of high school. A year later I was 20, in college, and thought I was too cool and mature for this cheapie when I was wearing stuff like Chanel Allure Sport and Silver Mountain Water. I gifted it to a friend. Repurchased two years ago right before another Hawaii trip for nostalgia, and I’m thinking I was such a silly guy to have given my first bottle away. Sure it’s cheap, but it just smells great. Clean white musk base with a fresh green aromatic melange on top, faintly linear, consistent. A little piney/woodsy without ever approaching that dated vibe you get from Polo Green, for example. Loved by women. Great warm weather choice. And still reminds me of Hawaii.

This for some reason I will always have in my collection. It was probably my signature scent for years before I really got into fragrances. This is a green, fresh, woody musky fragrance that’s nice. But performance is weak as hell. 1-2 hours. But for 20 bucks I can’t really complain. Guess is one of my favorite brand for clothes and jeans which is probably why i got into this. It’s a nostalgic scent to me and I give it a 7.5/10 since I’ve had it in my collection since I can remember. I’ve lost count how many bottles of actually have got of this lol. If this lasted longer it would be a 9 but its still a banger to me personally 🔥

Fragrances like Guess Man, Chrome, CK One, Drakkar Noir, and Nautica Voyage, all deserve a spot in everyone's collection. They are perfect for a casual, out of the shower pick me up for your run-of-the-mill day. The price point is great. The smell is pleasant if not complex. They are what they are: serviceable, safe scents. I personally enjoy wearing them from time to time. Another casual, affordable and fun fragrance you might want to try is Get Up! by Samourai. It smells like Coca Cola in a bottle. Don't you love all the choices in the fragrance world? I know I do.
