Guess Man

OLD SCHOOL! And yet so dang charming... That pine note, overused for so long in the 80's and 90's, instantly makes me think "old man", but yet this is one pine scent that I really like! I'm pining over it even... ;D When I first started sampling scents, this was one of many that I bought tester vials of. Surprisingly, I feel the same way about it now as I did then: I loved it, but almost felt guilty about loving it, because of that old school reminiscent pine note. But the nutmeg and ginger (both old school notes, again) add a very soft powdery aspect that melds very well with the sandalwood. And I agree with everyone else - the sandalwood drydown might be the best part! Somehow it all comes together to be fitting for the time it was released and still modern enough for today. Im really surprised this goes for $15 a bottle and has so much dislike. I mean, I guess I can see WHY they dislike it, but it's a really charming scent nonetheless and I actually like this more than Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme and many other designer for men signature scents. The only thing I dislike is how much it reminds me of the original Grey Flannel, which is just old school and not charming at all. Then other times, it reminds me of Antonio Banderas "Antonio" for men, which is classic yet youthful, and shares the same "fir" note. Here's to hoping I meet a 30-something woman with daddy issues, because I'll be wearing this scent from time to time, and ain't none of you gonna talk me out of it!!! It may not be a crowd pleaser, but it's very charming. Plus, let's face it, I couldn't resell this one if I tried! :)

This review is based on first sniff after spraying on my wrist and wearing it for an hour or so. It's a very nice fragrance for man/women of all ages to place in his/her rotation for the upcoming warmer seasons. There's a good reason why Guess Man is one of the best sellers on Amazon... it's a great value and it smells incredible for the price. I blind purchased it for my summer rotation, but the moment I smelled this juice it reminded me instantly of Spring with its green/herbal freshness, fir and wormwood notes blended nicely with lavender, woody notes, and a touch of musk. It's not uber-masculine, but it's clearly a man's fragrance IMO. I loved how upon first sniff it immediately brought me back to a spring day in New England. However, it's not a so-called panty dropper by any means, and probably won't please fragrance snobs that think high price means higher quality... typical sheep. Pour this juice in a Creed or Dior bottle and it will become one of those houses best sellers. I'm really looking forward to Spring 2017 so I can rock this juice a few times during the season. It's a 100% day time fragrance and ideal for casual occasions. I'll update this review in April on its projection and longevity, or lack thereof. But I might have a long wait because today is Groundhog Day and Punsxutawney Phil saw his shadow. So I suppose its another 6 weeks of winter. Oh well... give me a beer!

The third fragrance I ever purchased (right after Hollister unisex cologne and Hollister Jake). I was 19, and found it in the Guess store in Honolulu which I’m guessing doesn’t exist anymore. It will always be associated with Hawaii when I took a school trip there my senior year of high school. A year later I was 20, in college, and thought I was too cool and mature for this cheapie when I was wearing stuff like Chanel Allure Sport and Silver Mountain Water. I gifted it to a friend. Repurchased two years ago right before another Hawaii trip for nostalgia, and I’m thinking I was such a silly guy to have given my first bottle away. Sure it’s cheap, but it just smells great. Clean white musk base with a fresh green aromatic melange on top, faintly linear, consistent. A little piney/woodsy without ever approaching that dated vibe you get from Polo Green, for example. Loved by women. Great warm weather choice. And still reminds me of Hawaii.

This for some reason I will always have in my collection. It was probably my signature scent for years before I really got into fragrances. This is a green, fresh, woody musky fragrance that’s nice. But performance is weak as hell. 1-2 hours. But for 20 bucks I can’t really complain. Guess is one of my favorite brand for clothes and jeans which is probably why i got into this. It’s a nostalgic scent to me and I give it a 7.5/10 since I’ve had it in my collection since I can remember. I’ve lost count how many bottles of actually have got of this lol. If this lasted longer it would be a 9 but its still a banger to me personally 🔥

Fragrances like Guess Man, Chrome, CK One, Drakkar Noir, and Nautica Voyage, all deserve a spot in everyone's collection. They are perfect for a casual, out of the shower pick me up for your run-of-the-mill day. The price point is great. The smell is pleasant if not complex. They are what they are: serviceable, safe scents. I personally enjoy wearing them from time to time. Another casual, affordable and fun fragrance you might want to try is Get Up! by Samourai. It smells like Coca Cola in a bottle. Don't you love all the choices in the fragrance world? I know I do.

Picked this one up years ago since my curiosity took over and it was worth it for the cheap price! Fast forward years later and I have another bottle. I'd say this is an aromatic, cozy, musky, sweet, and spicy masculine fragrance that fits in with casual clothing and the spring and summer seasons. I'd consider longevity for me as a bit more than the average moderate level but not long-lasting. Overall, 8/5/10 👍

This is ideal for fall, winter, or maybe spring; it is a very nice fresh and aquatic fragrance that is worth buying. You won't be disappointed if you like aquatic fragrances with hints of herbs and the good thing is that is not so expensive compared to other junk that are not so good like body sprays and other things out there, I highly recommend this one

Guess Man is one of those timeless cheapies that never disappoints. Fresh, green, and slightly spicy powdery, it’s easy to wear, and always feels clean. For the price, it’s a steal and easily one of my all time favorites in the budget friendly category also it has okay longevity and projection for an edt 6h+ 8.0/10 (2009 batch)

My husband wears this one often and I must say, WOW. It works well with his chemistry. A few of his patients even made comments about how great this smells on him. I don't smell the citrus when he wears it, and not really an overpowering spice or musk scent. It blends to a clean, yet totally masculine scent for him.

I don't know why people don't like this one. It reminds me of versace man eau fraiche and Nautica Voyage. It might smell a bit synthetic but it's fine.I really love the smell.Very good fragrance especially for the price. Rating longevity- 7/10 Projection- 8/10 smell- 9/10 Overall = 8/10

A very pleasing fresh and sweet musky fragrance with some woods. In my collection, it's unique. Longevity and silage both are OK. Very safe to wear anytime really. I just got a 50 ml bottle and I think I will buy another 50 ml. Update....This has grown on me - I love this.

I really like this scent. I don't use it for myself, but I want my own bottle for sometimes enjoy scent. I think it smells like a natural, mature, not too flashy but slightly sexy man.

Just purchased my first bottle today. I am glad to have decide it rightfully. The smell is so fresh and looks like a smooth trace after about 6 hours.

Just bought another 75ml bottle - I love this perfume. Easy and pleasing to wear anytime. Very versatile and it's in my top 20 ever.

does smell very powdery and yet has a nice citrus smell that slowly turns sweet , lasting power isn't bad got a good 5+ hours .

Sweet, fresh, woody, herbal with moderate performance. Very pleasant and you can spritz this on anytime.

DeMercado, generally more adept at female fragrances during his tenure, had two large mainstream successes in the male market with the fruity Calvin Klein Escape (1993) and the long-successful groundbreaking celebrity fresh fragrance Michael Jordan (1996). Those familiar with both with find some similarities in the heavy reliance on synthetic ingredients that blended together seem to overcome their limitations rather well. At the time this version of Guess Man was conceived, Guess had been slowly reestablishing itself in the department store clothing market after peaking in the late 1980's and early 1990's with massive international acclaim and record sales. Guess Man starts off very green upon application, with fresh green apple and just a touch of bergamot slamming the senses with an overload of hard to pick out garden spices and aqua/ozonic synthetics that come off quite heavy on first impression. These disappear very quickly, moving toward the middle notes with excessive impatience. The ginger, white pepper, nutmeg and lavender blend into a rather non-descript ginger heavy sent within five minutes after clashing with the top. The white pepper shows early in the middle and within minutes recedes quickly to the background. Guess Man leans strongly towards the fresh spicy category, with the ginger asserting itself the strongest the whole way through once the middle flushes the quick citric opening away with ease. Around the twenty minute mark Guess Man becomes more musky, blending early with the balsam fir, ginger and sandalwood with little to no trace of the amber and suede. All the ingredients seem like accomplices to a party missing a head-turner or more assertive personality to make Guess Man standout from the typical fresh ginger spicy fragrance. After another 10-15 minutes the fir receedes and the ginger and sandalwood pretty much close this one out. This is a rather standard release that offers little in originality but does a good job of balancing rather synthetic ingredients into a fairly attractive, youthful scent perfect for wearers 25 and under. If you like ginger over musky drydowns, this is something worth your while. Inoffensive, fresh, spicy and warm, Guess Man is harmless in its projection, fading to a skin scent rather quickly; but makes up for it with surprising longevity, often going 5-7 hours on average. Far more interesting and subtle than Big Pony #3, another popular ginger scent aimed at the youth market, Guess Man is ceretainly worth the low MSRP asked for it at most retailers (ca. $19.99 a bottle). A musk and ginger fragrance at its core, Man is perfect for spring, summer and early fall and generally leans towards daytime use.
