Fairway

I don't know how you can spray this and not immediately enjoy it. Just a refreshing, bright hit of citrus and ginger - probably what Zara is trying to do with Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes, but their pungent synthetic ginger hit out of the bottle totally misses....Guy Fox gets the balance right. I also don't get the synthetic complaints from another reviewer. It has a better quality than most mid-range EDP's with this DNA. I thought the "iced tea" notes they provide on their website were silly...but I definitely can pick up tea leaves in the dry down. There is a sweet note to it as the synthetic reviewer points out. I'm guessing there is some tonka bean or something similar in there...it's not an overpowering vanilla, but something is in there giving it a sweet kick. And perhaps this is where their attempt at "iced tea" is coming from. The dry down balances nicely with a woody/musky accord and has more staying power than I anticipated from a DTC company. I also have received more complements with this fragrance this summer than I have any other, for what that's worth. I feel like there's some brand bias here in wanting to discredit this fragrance. This is my first purchase from them and while it isn't enough to woo me to try their regular line up, I do appreciate the attempt at making this a high quality limited run. I think they nailed a refreshing, enjoyable summer fragrance that I enjoy smelling most of the day.

This is one helluva spring/summer time fragrance. It lives up to its name Fairway. Imagine standing on a golf course with a sweet tea in your hand. People around always identify the sweet tea note, or the grassy note. It’s a very calming smell that makes you wanting to keep smelling it more and more. It also seems they are taking the feedback from their Founder’s Line and applying it to the their next releases. They kept it more simple with the note break down in this release, and honestly it works. I’m a huge fan of this Founder’s line and I have 3 of the 4 fragrances from the collection. And when they re-release fairway I will definitely be buying another bottle because I find it to be that good

Very refreshing fragrance. Has a bright sparkling green opening. I do not smell the OUD but this is well balanced/mixed fragrance and turns creamy like a lotion feel, maybe from the orris. Woke up the next morning with hints of the fragrance as a skin scent. So staying power is pretty good. Not a projection beast and its a safe fragrance to wear in almost any setting. It does have a country club vibe to it. A bit like a modern classic country club green fragrance with a lotion touch.

This is a great clean smell. Nothing jumps out to me as an immediate "smells like" fragrance. It does its own thing, citrusy tea and green. To me, this fragrance can be worn year-round. Obviously, winter time is most fragrance lovers favorite time to bring out the code profumo's and PDM big hits, but this is a freshy that can roll into the colder months, no problem.

I was hesitant in my approach to Fairway. In general, I'm not a fan of heavy green fragrances - you know, the ones that smell like your hands after weeding in the garden or the scent of grass clippings. Having a grass note and a name like "Fairway", I prepared myself for a roll in a pile of grass clippings on a golf course. But no, that's not what Fairway is. It is, IMO, one of the best Guy Fox fumes, just below Nightcap. Fairway opens with a really nice ginger/citrus combo that's refreshing. As it dries down, a definite tea note appears that's slightly sweet - no diabetic attack. As its evolution continues, a woody accord begins to appear that gives it a solid, masculine grounding, along with a slightly musky and spicy feel. It's at this point where the contradictions appeared for me. Is Fairway really a green freshie or is it a heavier fragrance suitable for winter? It's actually balanced so deftly, that I think it would work both in summer heat as it works now in winter cold (I'm testing this in winter). It's fresh and green, but not overwhelmingly so. OTOH, there's some heft in the base that makes it perfect for winter. How's that for versatility? Longevity is quite good, still having a strong skin scent at 9 hours. Projection is more moderate - about 3 feet out for a couple of hours. Guy Fox has a real winner here and am looking forward to purchasing a FB. UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes: First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best: 1. Nightcap 2. Fairway 3. Vince 4. Nelson Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB: Aspen Primo Mikul Jefe Preston Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some: Palmer Tyler Marra JP Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me: Riviera

This is my first Guy Fox fragrance. I blind bought a bottle because I had heard very good things about Founder’s Reserve Nightcap, the Founder’s Reserve line sells out quickly and Fairway’s note breakdown sounded good. The dominant note in the opening is ginger. It smells very generic, synthetic and main stream. A little too sweet for me. On a positive note, the cheap smelling, synthetic and mass appealing aroma chemicals are well blended. And taking into account Fairway's average to slightly below average price point relative to most designer houses, it is a decent fragrance. My nose has changed a lot over the last few years and perhaps a more novice me would really like this, I don’t know. It does not smell bad, it just does not smell particularly good or great. And I've got a large number of similar smelling fragrances that are just simply better. I would not wear this. I will give it to my young son, maybe he will wear it. 6/10

I blind bought this one because I liked Nightcap so much, but this one was ok for me as I think it is a bit too sweet for my taste. I have to agree with a previous review below, if I got this earlier in my fragrance journey, I may have rocked this a lot more, but with much more distinct citruses in my collections (Perseus, Elysium, Mephisto, etc...), this one just doesn’t get any wear time at all.

I'm in Los Angeles. Willing to trade a full bottle of Fairway (complete with golf ball) with someone who has a full bottle of Aspen. Please DM.
