Primo

This cologne is a lot softer than its listed notes might have you believe. I was anticipating this to be a sort of dark, smokey, almost astringent kind of smell when I first purchased a sample of it. Instead, this is primarily a cream scent; All the other notes are simply steeping in the brew. Imagine if you took all of the harshness out of the woody, smokey, tobacco, leather, and booze notes. What remained would be a his fragrance. I like this a lot more for that. I got a sample kit of Guyfox’s other fragrances as a gift. I tried all of them. Some were good, but all of them I had smelled before in something else. This was the only one that was completely unique; I’ve never smelled another fragrance that was quite like this one. It starts off a little green (the black tea is very strong at first, but fades away within minutes) and then you’re left with hours of creamy goodness. It’s a lot of dirty notes without the dirt...if that makes any sense. For whatever reason, I think this one works BETTER on a Summer night rather than a cold one. This fragrance doesn’t really make sense. And that’s why I like it.

Middle aged Georgia cowboy here: Just got in my fragrance sampler (10 samples in just 3 days across the country - impressive) and Primo is the 5th one I'm trying. Really smoky and woody out of the decant then dries to a more even leathery mossy scent with a hint of rum. Similar to Tom Ford in a way but not as in your face If I were to buy it I'd save this one for winter/fall. For me 9/10. Of those in the sample I've tried so far from fave to least: Palmer (9/10) (piney/woodsy) Primo (8/10) (smoky/leathery) different from the others so far, very manly Vince (7/10) (limey/woodsy) Marra (6/10) (limey/woodsy) Tyler (6/10) (citrussy/coconutty/woodsy)

Creamy and smokey I don't really care for s33 so this is a great find for me Its a little light more intimate not loud at all but overall good scent 7.8/10

Just got mine in the mail. Smells good. Would buy again. Picked up a bottle for a gift too.

I'd like to start my review by saying that is Primo is not similar to Nightcap. While they share notes, Nightcap is rich, deep, heavy and dark with superb performance. I have a FB and enjoy it very much. Coming into Primo and expecting a similarity, I was very surprised. Primo is almost the opposite - it's light and brighter, almost fresh. While I get some of the notes upon application and initial dry down (maybe about 5 minutes or so), the final dry down is a creamy, lightly powdery, unique scent. It's rather difficult to describe - somewhat woody but with a light topping of amber, rum, smoke, tobacco and suede all mixed together such that no note seems to really stick out. The overall impression is of a creamy, woody scent that is mildly powdery, emphasis on the sandalwood I guess. Projection is moderate while longevity came down to about 8 hours or so. Another way to look at Primo is if you feel that something like Nightcap is too heavy to even consider it for summer, you could try Primo which brings similar notes to the table but in a very light and almost fresh way. While nice, I like Nightcap too much to really bother with Primo and wearing Nightcap on a warm, summer evening doesn't frighten me. UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes: First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best: 1. Nightcap 2. Fairway 3. Vince 4. Nelson Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB: Aspen Primo Mikul Jefe Preston Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some: Palmer Tyler Marra JP Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me: Riviera

Nightcap was my introduction into Guy Fox. I picked up a bottle along with the Starter Kit so i could sample all of their fragrances. Because I loved Nightcap so much, and with it being a limited edition, i was excited when i saw reviews saying Primo was very similar, so I blind bought it when I redeemed my Starter Kit code for a full size bottle... Primo smelled nothin like Nightcap to my nose. Absolutely no resemblance for me at allll. Felt more like a possible flanker to maybe Nelson, another dry woody Guy Fox fragrance. My bottle of Primo was nearly all sandalwood and smoke, mixed with a super dry Cuban cigar note. Very very woody fragrance, almost gives me sawdust vibes. Bummed that i dont really detect any booziness with Primo, mostly just a creamy, slightly sweet sandalwood, with a dry, brittle cigar vibe. I get the smoke, but not the rum, more of a smoky, woody rum barrell. I definitely get the Santal 33 comparison. If you've ever smelled Commodity Book or Paper, to me Primo is closer to Book+ mixed with Paper+. I like Primo enough to keep it, but I'm gonna have to snag a backup bottle of Nightcap, cuz Primo isn't gonna be a substitute for me unfortunately. If you like dry, woody fragrances, Primo is the one.

I’m very sad. I just bought this cologne and a day later it shows up as an instagram ad. Now I’m expecting the worst hoping for the best. I will update this review when it comes in as the notes are exactly what I wanted. Very masculine. Edit: initial spray and first 5 mins actual 1-2/10 After dry down 8.5/10 will probably wear this all summer it’s not overwhelming like Chanel Antaeus it’s very new age but pretty good. To me it’s a sunny day masculine fragrance. Just wait the first five minutes before going out.

This is so close to their limited run Nightcap that I'd call it a flanker. Smells very very similar, just missing the overly tangy note that Nightcap has and instead just slightly creamy. And many of the notes are similar too. I like it, I like Nightcap and I really don't need both. I was expecting something a little more unique. Long lasting and very aromatic. Probably not a good summer heat choice.

Does open to a smooth black tea, with a cashmere-woods bias, it’s more of a bright, fresh profile to start in the same manner @Smirky is describing (so not a steeped tea but tea leaves, in a similar understanding as petitgrain), then develops into a smooth lactonic, suedeish cigar facet. It’s not a smoking cigar that’s in your face, but rather comes as an unlit cigar, ever so slightly more vulgar than unlit tobacco leaves but not by a large margin at all compared to something like Tabacco Toscano by Santa Maria Novella. The cigar is the most forward element, followed by some abstract suedeish-leather that is barely present, an oakmoss support with a lactonic undertone. It was pretty difficult to make out these nuances because the perfume profile is barely there. Maybe olfactory fatigue kicked in? Maybe my vial somehow spoiled? My Metal Hurlant vial is still good even though it’s almost empty and thoroughly used on my skin before so I’m not sure what the issue is here. It has about above average longevity, so maybe it’s because it’s an extrait? I’d expect something like this from an EDT. I would have really preferred if it projected just a bit more, so while I can say the profile is well done, this probably would be fit for those with sensitive noses and as much testing I did now and before, this really isn’t it for me, as much as I had wanted it to be.

I would agree with JLH76’s review that this is bery similar to Nightcap. I would even say that this is probably an early iteration they made when trying to come up with Nightcap. Although it’s good I still think Nightcap is much better, it’s a little smoother and creamier.

I have nightcap for trade and its nearly full (from the first batch months ago) I was excited about the primo launch but since some say its very similar to nightcap, i'll pass. NC is good, but I want something that screams tobacco
