Cravat Noir

This is a very good fragrance in its own right! Consider the price per mil, quality of oils, blending technique, concentration and overall scent profile. Then you will find that Happyland has an A+ rating in the Indie market. Grand Slam Home Runs Every Time!

YSL Tuxedo amped up! I have the solid. The solid is a perfect texture, maybe a tad thicker than Vaseline. IMO, better than Tuxedo because this is a pure perfume concentration without any alcohol. Longevity and projection are good.

The violet on top reminds me of Ganymede as well. Love this fragrance.

Happyland Cravat Noir is a sweet-and-spicy resinous blend of amber and patchouli, colored by vanilla, bergamot, black pepper, and violet, per the official website note listing. The amber/patchouli blend is certainly at the center, with added spiciness from the pepper, a decent amount of sweetness from the vanilla, some sharpness from violet, and a pinch of freshness from the bergamot. Cravat Noir is interesting and idiosyncratic in a lot of good ways and, like Blue Fire, feels really unique and does not remind me of anything specifically. But I do get a bit of déjà vu with it—I feel like I’ve smelled it before, or perhaps that it’s something I’ve wanted to smell. It has a funny effect on me like that. Like many fragrances in the Happyland catalogue, Cravat Noir feels a bit more suited for colder weather but could also work for a summer evening, but I’d probably avoid wearing it in the extreme heat. It incorporates a very interesting blend of notes, curiously balanced between something outstanding—literally, something that makes you stand out from the crowd—and something that feels timelessly fitting for someone in an office or in a crowd. It’s not among my very favorite fragrances in the line but it falls into the category of innovative and interesting while not one I’d personally wear a lot—at least not as much as my “big four” (Se7en, Happyland Signature, Homme for the Holidays, and Barbershop) as well as the two new recent releases, Amberland and Hommeland, both of which I find to be highly versatile—but I could see Cravat Noir being a signature scent for some and the go-to night-out scent for others. It has merit in lots of different ways. Cravat Noir shares the same pricing of most of the house, at $50 for 50ml / $35 for 30ml, very reasonable for a high-performing product and unsurprisingly is one that I recommended everyone try. Every day, the sample pack deal looks better and better, as it includes more and more fragrances and 5ml per fragrance is a great sample size. 7 out of 10

I have a decant of this fragrance that I received with about 5 of E.J.'s other offerings. At first, I got the same feeling reviewer "landshark321" had with the deja vu phenomenon. However, then it came to me. I haven't gotten my nose on Tuxedo so I can't compare the two but Cravat Noir gives me some slight YSL Ultime vibes. There's no ginger in this and the two only share rose but the similarity is pretty striking side-by-side. I'm still new to note and accord recognition so I honestly can't go into all that but I enjoy both fragrances very much. Cravat Noir has more depth and can provide more versatility over multiple seasons while Ultime only works well in Spring/Summer. In my opinion, it's occasion versatile as well. Thanks.

Aquatic? Ozonic ? Where exactly? I'm not familiar with Tuxedo so I can't speak to that comparison, but I can say with certainty that I do not at all perceive some of the notes that are listed as most prominent. Off my skin, Cravat Noir gives strong dried herb, dark floral, and slightly spicy sandalwood effects. Maybe a bit of patchouli and leather as well. Performance is subdued, long lasting but never loud, for something claiming to be an extrait, though to be fair, the spray residue is characteristically oily. That said, this is my fave Happyland of the 7 or so I've tried. Others seem to lean heavily on a single note or accord, while CN seems well balanced. It's a nice smell, priced appropriately.

Strong patchouli-amber with a piercing violet leaf opening and a sweet vanilla base. It's a clean and smooth patchouli, but the longer it dries down the more that vanilla base begins to dominate. Like a scoop of vanilla cream infused with patchouli, sprinkled with violet powder, add a dash of black pepper. Moderate projection for 2-3hr that settles into a surprisingly consistent and long-lived scent bubble for 10-12hr. A sweeter, less violety YSL Tuxedo that somewhat better fits my tastes.

My favorite Happyland with Green Irish Tobacco and Foux du Fafa and the best Tuxedo dupe/alternative in the market with DUA Tux. Tuxedo is more refined and classier but it's pretty close. If you like Tuxedo but don't have the budget for it get Cravat Noir. Good stuff ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

I don't know why I keep accepting clones in trade as they always disappoint. Cravat Noir is no exception. As someone else mentioned there is that faint underlying several days old water soaked medicated bandage smell. Definitely lacks the refinement and smoothness of Tuxedo but that is to be expected. Maybe in the air it smells closer to Tuxedo but off the skin it smells synthetic and cheap which always diminishes the experience.

I love Happyland and EJ. I do not like this fragrance. At all. Watery earthy bandaid smelling. Like a medicated bandaid. It's the violet leaf with some ambergris but not in an aquatic salty way. I am willing to sell if anyone is interested.

This one goes a little “out of the box” for Happyland Studios in that it isn’t a Gourmand or a blend of far out notes that other perfumers are afraid to try. It’s not daring, but it has an elegance to it that makes it a bit on the classy side. That being said, it’s a very nice blend that gives you a warm,rich, sweet-leaning and spicy comfort scent that is very pleasing and people friendly. It leans masculine, but ladies could wear it. Definitely a sweater weather and winter fragrance. It’s a very good blind buy because it smells nice. As per most Happyand Studios frags, it lasts.
