Bourbon Eau de Cologne

Bourbon EdC by Hans Hendley is divine. Honestly, I can't think of how it could be better. A 10 out of 10 for me. Thank you Hans!!!

Fantastic scent i can't get enough of this!!

I bought Bourbon Eau de Cologne blind because the extrait version of Bourbon was too strong on my skin. I liked it, but I didn’t feel I could wear it as it leaned too masculine. So I decided to try out the edc 15ml size. The notes are less complex, most notably missing are the strong boozy note, the animalic vibe of Castoreum and the guaiac wood notes. And because of their omissions, I do think the edc leans more unisex. I would file this scent as a more traditional amber with vanilla and musk. Bourbon edc is more wearable, and I can’t help but think it should have a different name as the edc has nothing to do with the original version. I won’t buy a larger size when this bottle runs dry, but I still like it and will wear it. I’m also curious to see if I can eek out better performance as the mercury rises.

It starts sweet with cognac, vanilla, to settle woody between aged barrels with hints of grape, dry oak and sour and smoky notes. It has a soft, soft, light, airy vanilla and tonka sweetness. Benzoin and labdanum give an amber, oriental and relaxing touch. I also have citrus in the background that keep the woods fresh and bitter. It is exactly what the name implies and it is executed with refinement and taste. Alcoholic only in the opening, this is woody with a raw and stripped sweetness. The drydown is dusty, soft, with musk and oak moss, still slightly animalic, smoky, smooth, with an intimate, sober and relaxed aura. Tested the edc version. Nothing new, but simple and refined.

I can see the connection to the OG Bourbon, and for the most part I can appreciate the similarities, but there is something about this version that doesn't sit well with me. Something that I (almost) don't like. Can't tolerate. Feel uneasy about. There is an off-putting side-accord that I really don't like -- vanilla, oakmoss and benzoin perhaps? I'm not sure, but I don't like it. The original version was a little too harsh and dry, but I like this version even less. It smells like farty-bile, and I know that I'm probably the ONLY person on earth who thinks this, but it's just too much for my weird nostrils to take in. The musk comes out a little later and tames the above notes, but it's a lot to go through...
