Untitled

Maybe the quirkiest performer of the lot in my sample set of 7 from Hendley. Fascinatingly peppery notes in the iris and vetiver give a prickle of intrigue against the powdery-sweet-backdrop of mid-range, light, fragrant sandalwood. Smells dry, pastel, tinges of hay perhaps. Another scent where Hans Hendley makes me adore something I often abhor - here it's vetiver, so often dirt and mud, but his hands turn it into something far gentler, more herbal, almost citric. It's a little weird but unfailingly interesting. Longevity not quite as strong as some of the more barnstorming products of the house though; on me this only lasts the course for 3-4h, which is a bit of a letdown. Always classy, true unisex and somehow you can feel a real intelligence to it. Would love to know it better.

The vetiver used here is coming across like some kind of turpentine. That’s creating the signature resin base I smell throughout the Hendley lineup. At first I was thinking Untitled was a pass, but the longer I wore it the more interested I became. Into the drydown, I’m getting a smooth, more dominant sandalwood and a dusty iris. I imagine this might be polarizing but I’ll echo others in saying give it a few wears and wait for the initial 20 minutes to mellow. I’m not saying those 20 minutes are bad, but it is incredibly strong. In fact, I found Untitled intriguing, so much that I bought a small 15 ml bottle through indiescents in Canada. If your a Hendley fan, they sell the smaller size.

I really like this utterly strange perfume, even through the harsh weird opening. My husband detests this. He says it smells like cleaner. I get where he's coming from because the vetiver opening of Untitled is definitely harsh, but underneath it the iris, sandalwood, and musk are just so breathtakingly beautiful, you get swept away when smelling them and keep hunting for them underneath the abrasive top. It's the most gentle iris woody musk, sweet and softly powdery. I am oddly drawn to the scratchy vetiver as well, it's like the juxtaposition of the rough with the delicate is so addictive. It smells like hay and straw and stables, a lovely woman with delicate skin cream standing amongst that earthy environment. So excited to try the rest of my samples from Hendley if this is kind of artistry is in store. This one hangs around quite some time on me.

Gluey vetiver. Earthy prestigious vetiver with that glue note, and slightly iris musk. I sense fruitti note but in a haze. Very earthy but not that animalic, wearable to those who aren't into risky blends. It reminds me allot of "Turtle Vetiver Back" by Les Nez with less earthy. Nice. Edit (12th June 2019) The more i wear it the more i get attached to it! It resembles a worker stranger! a construction worker like the ones in "Work From Home" by Fifth Harmony but of course minus the makeup, the cheap flexes, and the strippers workers outfits. It is a sticky gluey sweet blend. Very amusing.

Hendley's huge aromachems scent, a-la santal 33. The vetiver I smell has less to do with the EO and more of the vetiveryl acetate in scents like Encre Noir. The buttery iris and dry sandalwood pair well with the sharper vetiver, but this scent is simply not my style.
