Roi Sans Equipage

When a fragrance is blended this well, picking out notes is nearly impossible for me. What I get from this long lasting, moderate projecting thing of beauty is impressions. The first is an impression of green fresh notes that is somewhat spicy and somewhat bright. There is a definite hesperdic note or notes in this opening mix and it is lovely. The second impression that presents itself as the first drops back is warm and rich and impossibly deep. There might just be a moment where I discern patchouli at this stage, but it is a fleeting assertion before the blend subsumes it. So to, a rich tobacco might just be part of the blend, but overall, it is simply one player in this exquisite blend. Here, it is already clear that the quality of the components used in Roi Sans Equipage are the very, very best available and that they have been compounded with skill, Grace and restraint. The final impression is the best. Leather, smooth yet animalic, warm and resinous and rich. The king may have no clothes here, but his boots are spectacular. This may well be the best leather scent on the market today. Overall, this fragrance is extraordinary. Is it worth the price? I thought so and bought two bottles, one in each of the available concentrations. You may well agree, but at this price point, I strongly suggest that you try and sample the scent before making the financial commitment. Recommended for leather scent devotees of all genders and for folks looking to expose their noses to the pinnacle of modern leather-forward perfumery. Stupendous.

I've worn this off and on for the past two weeks and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm not sure my nose is mature enough to appreciate the quality ingredients and how well they are blended. Throughout the day I pick up a wonderfully aromatic, almost spicy scent, from what I believe to be the jasmine mixed with clary sage and pepper along with the woody, leather and slight tobacco undertones always present. I can't think of anything this reminds me of and I like that. Longevity is above average and sillage is average. It's not an "in your face" scent but certainly noticeable. I believe it to be a very versatile scent that can be worn on many occasions. This is my first experience with a Henry Jacques fragrance and it leaves me wanting to try more. I highly recommend you give this one a try. Edit: the review above was for the Parfum spray. I just ordered the Parfum oil.

A masterpiece. Henry Jacques manage to blend their fragrances so well that their notes are not as important in the big picture, yet you still smell individual notes that are the best of the best in terms of quality. This craftsmanship made other fragrances that I neglected based solely on notes become very pleasant once smelled for the first time. If this is your case, and you would not look for a tobacco/fougère fragrance, I urge you to smell this. Roi Sans Equipage has a sparkling peppery, amber quality to it with a distinct patchouli note and a clean amber and tobacco trail throughout. It is sophisticated, powerful, and very long lasting. This is my signature scent. A true gem.

This is probably one of the perfumes I like the most. It was love at first sniff, and since then I tried to convince myself not to get a bottle since it was so expensive, but I succumbed to my love for it and got one today. It's everything I wanted it to be. My only criticism is that this new reformulation is not as thick as the one before, thus lacks a bit of oomph. I wish I could still buy the old bottles. I honestly don't understand why brands reformulate something that was so great without any reason other then cost EDIT: This has become my favourite perfume of all time. Managed to get 2 bottles of the old formulation and I will cherish this forever.

All fragrances make statements. Some say a lot. Some say little. This fragrance says a little and a lot at the same time. It simply says “if you aim for the king, you better not miss”. This is a fragrance that a king would wear to make exactly that statement. I prefer to describe scents by the emotions they convey and the thoughts they provoke. For those that still need more of a description - it’s sweet and woody and smells at times like pheromones/sweat, but in the very best way - and that description does even less justice to it than my opening statement. Yes it’s expensive. Just buy it. You won’t regret it.

Amazing! Another gem from Henry Jacques. I have both the oil and Brumes versions. Deep, classy, versatile, so broad and complex... No equivalent Also note that like a lot of HJ scents, the scent changes after you open it up It matures and the peppery and leathery notes come out more and more later, a few weeks after opening the scent. Also, the Brumes and oil versions are quite different. I would get the oil first.

I didn’t think I liked leather or tobacco as notes. It turns out I do, as long as they are content to converse amongst themselves, enriching each other with the assured sophistication of their arguments. This perfume starts bittersweet and ends sweet-bitter. And along the way, it asks you what a man should be, and accepts the embracing confidence of your answer.

A true masterpiece that exudes opulence and confidence. I wouldn’t say this is “fire” as this is more “walking on the surface of the Sun”. I also own and adore “Blue Vanille”, but “Roi Sans Equipage” is next level by comparison. Henry Jacques has easily earned it's place as my favorite Luxury Niche Fragrance House.

You can buy one of these more affordable perfumes and they will have some of the same notes and be okay. But this stuff is fougere heaven. As smooth and well blended a perfume as I’ve ever experienced. A year round signature scent.

A very beautiful fragrance if you love fougere style perfumes. Smells a bit like Mr. H and Monsieur Bouquet had a baby. Its very luxurious smelling and worth every penny spent.

Easy to use leather and tobacco. Well balanced. Sophisticated but airy gentlemen fragrance. Best of the best.

Roi Sans Equipage makes Creed Aventus smell like your 6 year old daughter's fragrance. Amazing!

My favorite cologne that I’ve been searching for since getting into fragrances 6 years ago.

Very nice blend of a staunch woody base (kind of iris feeling to me, like that "paper" note from Dior Homme) but with a bright fizzy clean amber around it and a mild leather note. In the drydown I get some of the floral touches, I see jasmine is noted but I get almost a violet feel here. Really nice, somewhat herbal too so I see where people could be thinking about BdJ when they smell this but I'd say this is more like a woodier and nicer blended Montabacco Intensivo personally...though don't tear me apart for that comparison, they are different frags just have some overlap with a fresh airy feel but with touches of tobacco and leather. Excellent gentlemanly fragrance and not out of date with the times.

J’ai réussi à avoir celui ci à un prix cassé par chance l odeur fait penser à un melange de John varvatos vintage et la nuit de l hommes en plus mature j’aime beaucoup ce parfum mais le prix et la qualité du parfum c’est de l escroquerie pure j’ai essayé tout leurs parfums avenue Montaigne à paris c’est beaucoup de parfum connu qui reformule donc c’est vraiment du marketing pure je m’attendais à des parfums d une élégance et d une qualité exceptionnelle j’ai vraiment était déçu entre 150€ et 300€ pour les huiles serait leurs vrais prix appart le prix sa reste un très bon parfum

RSE is a well refined fougere fragrance, it's like a breath of fresh air, particularly after the mundanity with its freshness, spiciness, and earthiness. The leathery, woody, and ambery notes are well blended and beautifully kissed by tobacco. A reminiscent of old classic of high quality old-school scent profile with a modern twist. However, the peppery note is more pronounced to my nose from the mid to the drydown than the opening while the opening is more citrusy. RSE is a tasteful and well refined fragrance, which describes the identity of a high powerful-gentle man!

Maybe the best thing I've ever put my nose on. Opulence in a bottle. I just got a bottle from harrods. Will give a full review after a full wear Update: still one of my top 3 scents in my collection, I have stopped wearing it so much because I'm running out and it's very expensive. But it's everything I like about niche fragrance. It's unique, obviously uses high end ingredients, and it smells amazing. It's sweet and spicy without being cloying. Has a toned down low key leather vibe. Think what an uber rich polo player in a new saddle would smell like. Mmmmm so good!

Testing RSE and closest current perfume available is Italian Cypress by Tom Ford. It is a fougere, green, peppery. Very masculine, aftershave like but i cant call this a masterpiece. Until recent time i enjoyed IC but i am over it. Additionally, i feel that there is a friendly competition between RSE and Soudain, and out of the 2 Soudain is a clear winner to me. Finally, for the price that is being asked, get yourself Italian Cypress or BdJ and enjoy all the perks for a fraction.

This thing is very elegant that is for a gentleman or a high powered business man. This isn't something to get for compliments, this is a thing that demands respect. As it dries down, it has that barbershop feel that is subtle and enjoyable. Definitely for the colder times, so fall/winter fit perfectly and, try to sample before buying ( because of it's price ) but, if you wanted a mature, serious, barbershop fragrance, this is the one.

A beautiful fougere. Along the lines of Rive Gauche pour homme, I'd say in the same family, but dare I say better. This is a love for me, but I’m kinda biased, as I usually wear fougeres. I’ve worn them since the 80’s, and probably will for the rest of my life. All in all a great fragrance.
