Jake's House

This one was my gateway perfume! It lead me into the world of fragrance and niche perfumery - darnit Henry Rose, my bank account is suffering :) It is something I did not expect to like, as at that time, I thought I only liked vanilla-esque perfumes. This fragrance is quite simple. It smells like fresh water and freshly bloomed orange blossoms. I happened to take a trip to California right after I received a sample of this so was able to compare to the real blossoms on citrus trees. Wow, very realistic. This smells expensive and of quality. It smells casual and classy (the reviewer mentioning jeans & T shirt was bang on), like what I want to wear if I ever went on a sailing trip. Longevity is moderate, I get 6 hours of wear.

After owning test viles of all eight Henry Rose scents, my nose continues to return to Jake's House over and over again. It sits so beautifully on the skin and absolutely evokes happy, cheerful thoughts. It's the perfect balance of sweet and musky. I can see why it's the bestselling of all eight. I don't think there is a bad scent at all in the Henry Rose lineup. For those who suffer from allergies, you don't have to worry about a single thing! No headaches or migraines. I do wish they offered a 3.3-4 oz option at the current price of $120. Then a 1.7 oz option for half that. I do know they are offering small 8 ml spray viles soon! This is my favorite perfume, along with Smyth by the same company! Both are beautiful!! Jake’s House is made of all my favorite things, like jasmine, orange blossom, musk and aquatic notes. Wonderful purity and quality :) In some ways, the Henry Rose perfumes remind me of scents that were popular during my childhood in the 90’s (perfumes were formulated a little cleaner then I believe, or so it seemed), but at the same time, they’re really modern. The brand was also created with health in mind, which means a lot to me, especially for daily use. As with any truly clean fragrance, I do reapply from time to time.

Here’s why I LOVE this scent: After the initial burst of water-stone, Jake’s House gives the cleanest shower-fresh white floral vibes. AND IT DOESN’T GET TOO SWEET. It also doesn’t get too ... cloying or annoying. It stays fresh fresh fresh. I had this last Spring/Summer and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on another bottle. It makes me feel like I’m sitting in a dappled English Garden - and that Elizabeth & Darcy will walk by at any moment. Very Austen. Highly recommend.

Jake's House is like an Herbal Essence scent from the vintage (good) shampoo bottle. That is the highest compliment because I loved that scent. At once, green grass and oranges, but not sweet, just True. In fact, one of the rare green-based scents Ive found NOT sweet. It is Divinely refreshing and playfully light. Any musk is tempered by the fresh water element in it also, which keeps this one light, airy. I will buy a bottle of this.

I tried all of the Henry Rose perfumes and felt like they were all too "perfumey". Don't know the technical term for this, but they smelled just like every other standard perfume. But this one stood out. It makes me nostalgic for a smell in my childhood. Maybe ladybluelady is right- its a familiar smell from an old shampoo? No clue, but I went from dismissing all of the HR perfumes, to actually putting this on my list of favorites.

Easily my favorite of all the HR frags, and probably my favorite fragrance of all time. It's seriously smooth and musky; and a stunning interpretation of an aquatic orange blossom. I'm surprised it took me so long to start writing reviews. I've been collecting for over 30 years. I love HR and appreciate the ingredient transparency. This is an iconic fragrance, worthy of cult status. Perfection!

This is BEAUTIFUL! I am a woman who loves Mugler Cologne and this is what I have been looking for ever since I discovered Mugler years ago. I have BEEN searching for another scent that smells like Mugler but has better longevity. This is the one! It not only smells like Mugler, but it is a tad sweet too. This may even replace my refills of Mugler moving forward. A real beauty. Highly recommend!

Such a gorgeous marine scent. Salty and a little floral thanks to the neroli. Perfect for splashing around in during the summer. If I didn’t live in Colorado (landlocked and arid), or rather, if I lived on the coast, I would wear this all summer long. For now, I’ll reserve this for coastal summer vacations. It’s not groundbreaking but it’s doing what it does beautifully.

I have to say this is a very fancy fragrance. If John Varvatos Artisan is middle class, then Jake's House is the elite (upper class) fragrance. They do smell similar and I've always wanted a longer lasting John Varv. Artisan and found this gem. Thank you Henry Rose! Y'all stay smelling clean and expensive. This is office-friendly and a pleasant one to smell everywhere.

This is my favorite out of the sample Henry Rose sample set. It is a beautiful balanced blend of sweetness, flowers, with some aquatic notes. It is not too sweet or too flowery. It is noticeable, yet subtle. It is something that can be worn almost anywhere throughout the year, unlike some of the other fragrances in this line.

I wore this for the first time yesterday and received a compliment. It had nice longevity compared to the other Henry Rose fragrances. It is a nice fresh and aquatic scent for spring/summer in the daytime. I wore it to work in a medical office setting.

This is a beautiful sweat neroli. Clean, fresh, classic, relaxed. Longer lasting then all the others in this category that I own. Great for vacation and work, none offensive. Jeans, white t and this, are perfect.

Ok now this is just lovellyyyyy. GOD this is like if you took the entire Celine line and made it into something I like. Perfect for summer. I think this and miss Dave are my fave

This is a bright, clean, musky fragrance with a light floral and honey note. This is gender neutral so both sexes can pull this off as a signature scent. I love it! Instantly!

Not for me, but extremely pleasant. I feel like this would be a hit with masc lesbians who want to embody the energy of "the coolest boy in high school at a pool party"

I love this. It's an aquatic without the calone and ambergris accords. It even has the metallic chlorine smell. Longevity and sillage could be better.

This fragrance is absolutely beautiful. Truly unisex in my opinion. Very fresh, clean, and captivating. Could be worn any day or night. Love.

This is probably the poster product for Henry rose, and is commonly flaunted as it’s most popular on the website and in the promotional emails. Now having given it 2 full wearings I totally can see why. This is a bit of a neroli bomb, so if you don’t like neroli you won’t like this. It’s a very clean and uplifting neroli, but still neroli. It starts off with this beautiful mix between this clean neroli and a freshwater aquatic accord. The aquatic being the main love part of the scent for me as it really does remind me of like a clean freshwater river or shower. Then as this fragrance dries down the aquatic notes start to drift away as it predominantly becomes a clean and musky neroli that’s just really refreshing. It’s dry down is not groundbreaking, but I don’t think we’re trying to be. I do get a hint of sweetness throughout the dry down but I would label it honey in any way, just making the neroli and musk a little brighter and sweeter. This is a good fragrance, one that pretty much everyone will enjoy. It’s so clean it leans ALMOST soapy to me in the very beginning, but as it dries it becomes much more just basic fresh. Unisex fragrance all the way, but I can see how the advertising would sway people otherwise. Leans more towards spring and summer day time, but I can totally see this being anyone’s go to scent. Stick to my skin about 5-6 hours with the first 3 have moderate projection. Not a bad time at all, especially considering fresh scents don’t typically last as long as heavier/darker scents do. Overall thoughts? Good scent and great brand to get started in when first starting your perfume journey, or a great gift for someone looking for a crowd pleasing clean scent.

Jake's House is an aquatic floral scent, simple but nicely-composed. I don't gravitate towards this scent profile in general, but this is a really good example of the genre. The neroli is fresh and realistic, sweetened by the honey note, while the aquatic accord adds balance. JH opens with neroli, green-tinged and orangy, evocative of summer. The honey is evident up top, adding rich yet muted sweetness. It is an inspired addition, adding a nectar-like quality to the neroli, making it lush and photorealistic. The honey note sets this scent apart from other aquatic florals. As it develops, the aquatic undertone comes to the fore, fresh and chlorine-like, reminiscent of a swimming pool. I don't enjoy aquatic notes in general, and I get a slight chemical window-cleaner edge - a common pitfall of aquatic florals. However, this can be forgiven here by the quality of the overall scent and how it contributes to the theme. The honeyed neroli lingers, becoming cleanly musky as it dries down. The aquatic notes remain until final fade. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. It is a unisex scent for hot summer days. JH is a simple, linear scent, but is made with high-quality ingredients and is nicely put-together. Evocative of hot summer days by an outdoor pool. One of the best aquatic florals I have smelled, even if this is not typically my thing. 4/5.

I ordered the "Rich" set from Henry Rose to find a sophisticated "clean" and phalate-free perfume. I sprayed this on a card and my skin. This IMMEDIATELY reminded me of Wild Bluebell from Jo Malone with a whisper of the top notes in Wood Sage and Sea Salt (I own and wear both and tested them side by side). I was shocked at how brazen and forward the influence of Wild Bluebell was in this scent. It's fresh, floral, and powdery white musky/talcy. It's a clean perfume that I kept on smelling, however, I like a little bit of sensuality to my perfumes after being exclusively into water/green/fresh perfumes for years and it's such a dupe for Wild Bluebell, I wouldn't want to purchase until my bottle is gone. I'm interested in seeing what else this brand does in the future- thank god we finally have non-endocrine disrupting options that are complex and sophisticated!

Kind of an attempt at being an Olympia knock off, with the heavy, slick salty smell at first spray. It isn't very pleasant and is unidentifiable as a fragrance, more like an "odor," not gross, but certainly not pleasant. Like the old Aunt's house that smelled stale, musty and of various other unidentifiable odors. If you spent the night or stayed too long, the odor would get in your clothes and hair, leaving you to feel you needed to go home and shower before going anywhere else, because you really don't want the smell trailing you. Not to worry, like all Henry Rose fragrances..., you won't have to suffer long. There'll be no need to shower or scrub it off, because it will be completely gone within an hour, with no trace.

Very pleasant mellow “clean” Neroli scent. It is my second day wearing this. After four sprays between me and my outfit I am getting about 2-3 hours of light performance on clothes, less on skin. The blend is more like a body spray, which I find welcome in current summer heat. Hard not to like, but it is perhaps a bit simple after ten minutes. I am also leaning in on aquatic fragrances currently after not reaching for this type of scent for years. Additional thoughts... Reminds me slightly of jasmine Yucatan, but lighter and sweeter I am curious if this would work alongside Megamare, and will experiment when I have time outside If you enjoy a scent like diptyque do son you may want to sample this

I ordered the discovery set and when sprayed on paper, I thought this was my least favourite. And then I sprayed it on my skin and immediately ordered a bottle. I didn't realize how much I loved neroli until I smelled this. The opening is incredibly sharp, crisp and refreshing and then it settles and lingers on my skin for hours. This one is a mood booster for me and transports me to places I can't currently travel to. I imagine myself on a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea (feeling fancy in a Missoni dress, sunglasses and a head scarf), close enough to the coast to catch the smell of bitter orange trees wafting in the wind on a bright and slightly breezy summer day...

Jake’s House skews the most unisex of the five frag Henry Rose line. Lake house. Summer evening’s crispness has set in. Boyfriend’s tattered Maine sweatshirt. Wet hair. The sweet aquatic musk of Jake’s House like a second skin. The bright top note steals your attention before the fragrance, like the evening, settles into honeyed smoothness. Pairs nicely with the citrus-floral patch of Last Light: a sensual duet. Postscript March 1: Last Light seems to make my eyes water so I no longer go to it. And it falls a little flat on my skin. Jake’s House lightens the muskiness of Fog. Verdict: The honeyed floral Jake’s House is my favorite of Ms. Pfeiffer’s scents from 2019.

Firstly, I am not a fan of neroli. On initial spray, this did not smell like neroli to me, but it assaulted my nostrils. But I have to say shortly after, it turned into something very nice. I can smell the neroli, but it's the nicest neroli I've ever smelled. I don't think I'd buy a FB but I will definitely finish my sample of this. When I smell this I envision a mom living somewhere Coastal in California with a nice home, an orange tree outside, a pool. She has a linen blouse on, light blue jeans, hair pulled back, but looks classy and put together. She's busy and has a schedule full of kid's activities, and school involvement. Clean, fresh, elegant.

As some have mentioned, this is laundry detergent. Yet, an inoffensive and non-sharply smelling detergent on clean clothes freshly dried on a summer clothesline. It reminds me of a BBW body spray from the late 90s/early 2000s—fresh linen or clean cotton. Normally, this would be an automatic no, but due to its softer delivery, I’m not feeling the dislike. I’m not sure I enjoy wearing it on its own as much as I like layering it with HR’s headier fragrances. It’s become my favorite way to give some bright levity to Dark is Night and Char. Two fragrances that can be a bit overwhelming to me on their own.

There may not be anything exciting or groundbreaking about this fragrance, but it's one of the few neroli-dominant fragrances, aside from Neroli Portofino, that seem to work on me, as neroli tends to turn "stinky" (for lack of a better word) on me, like in Sintra or Nobile 1942 Perdizione. Reminds me a lot of Sylvaine Delacourte Oranzo. It's a clean, refreshing, easy-reach fragrance, and one of my favorites from Henry Rose's discovery set. Perfect for running mundane errands or lounging around, especially on a hot day like today. It is also one of the better-performing offerings of the bunch.

A gentle neroli scent, with the addition of watery notes and especially honey making it smooth, seamless, and very chilled out in feel. The base is musk which is apparent from the start but gets stronger as the fragrance ages on the skin. Eventually the musk becomes the dominant note as the neroli and honey fade into the background. This one has no sharp or soapy edges, it’s very lush and lovely and easy to wear. Lasts 4-5 hours on skin. It’s unisex. Something about this seems more typically feminine to me, but I think this would actually be better on a man. Very sexy for summer.

A description I can provide for this scent is a fresh tomato leaf with citrus and lightly powdered flowers. Although I’m certain tomato leaf isn’t anywhere in this fragrance it really stands out in the initial spray. This fragrance dries down to. A refreshing summer citrus forward. If you want to smell nice and clean this should be your contender. Although I love Henry Rose, it should be stated that I bought this fragrance at a heavy discount, msrp is not a price I would pay for this scent.

So interesting to see what other people smell because I just do not smell the neroli and I'm wondering if it's because I have the same size. I get an almost Johnson's Shampoo, baby-clean smell that I love and so far, I like this scent and Torn the best for different reasons. I think I would bring this on a beach vacation as it's a good, sexy scent to spray on after a day in the sun. I get why people think it's an office scent because it's so pleasant, but I do think it's sexy.

I have a love/hate relationship with this scent. In fact I keep deleting and rewriting my review... It reminds me of freshly cleaned hotel linens and towels, pool chemicals evaporating in the sun, with the occasional fresh breeze of white florals and neroli. Sometimes I do want to smell like it. But there are days I wear it and I want it off me. Just has to be the right day. Edit: Forgot to note, on skin it becomes more natural/musky, on clothes it stays very chemical/clean

Imagine that you are in a tropical hotel surrounded by shadowy trees. It’s hot and humid around but somehow you can smell that there is a pool with cold water. For me this is that scent of water. It gives refreshing feeling (during several first sniffs), but it’s quite monotonous and after second hour you simply can get bored from it. PS- among all samplers of Henry Rose I had I used this one most often.

A nice recreation of the scents of an orange grove clustered around a California outdoor swimming pool, with the neroli combining with the aquatic notes and the musk to suggest even the hint of chlorine. Neroli is a love-it-or-leave-it scent, but though this fragrance is heavy with it, this accord is very amenable to people like me who sometimes find it too austere as a floral.

this fragrance is really beautiful and interesting and I keep reapplying it just to smell it on myself. To me it smells like a white lilac bush by a lake full of lily pads. the bush is young and you can smell the freshness of the green leaves by the flowers. I normally don't like such fresh scents but this is very noteworthy to me.

Fresh out of the shower scent. This is very light and clean. A perfume for when you want a "perfume detox" day. the notes are very well blended. This smells like clean, clear water with a hint of flowers and grass.

the first spray has a very strong alcohol scent, kinda like hand sanitizer, but that seems to be a trend with HR fragrances. very lovely when it dries down, though. wish it was a bit stronger.

Very summer-by-the-water for me. Wet hair and a crisp white shirt. I’m getting a Bobbi Brown Beach vibe, but softer. Really liking the idea of wearing this for summer.

Neroli, delicately sweet and green, coupled with soft powdery musk. Wet skin, fresh out of the shower, wrapped in a warm towel. Light, comforting, beautiful.

The neroli here is tamed, sweet and mild. Matched evenly with the aquatic note. All fresh and clean. A nice fragrance for summer.

For me the opening smells like green bell peppers. Makes me think I’m at Jake’s house in the kitchen chopping peppers

Whoa. The best thing I can say about this scent, so far my least favorite of the fabulous Henry Rose 20-EDP sample set, is that it wears off fairly quickly. Longevity hasn't really been a trait of any of the Henry Rose EDPs that I have sampled so far--and I think I have tried them all by now--but this one definitely becomes a skin scent within an hour or so. I can't say I enjoy it enough to want to wear it, though. Initial projection involves a sharp new-plastic-pool smell, mixed with the smell of a new Band-Aid, but probably a knockoff brand from some cut-rate pharmacy. Or maybe it smells like a summer-camp infirmary. There is also some other smell that emerges pretty quickly, a sort of piney, juniper fragrance. Maybe even vaguely menthol. It made me think of Tiger Balm cut with woodsmoke and toasted tobacco. This Jake guy. What's he like? Wouldn't I need to have a pretty good idea of this before I consent to smell like his house? Here's what I picture: man-bun, turmeric-stained fingers, vegan hiker, yoga devotee, hygiene maybe not 100% acceptable. A sharp, pungent sweat smell coming through: not entirely pleasant. I'm not really sure what to make of this scent, but I don't think I like it much so far. Whereas the faintly medicinal odor of Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue is rapturously, endlessly seductive to me, Jake's House has a sad stink to it: an exhausted old workhorse coated in liniment. Unless I'm imagining things, vanilla, the most reliable Henry Rose staple and, in my view, the component that sends the brand veering into Body Shop territory sometimes, emerges in the late-bloom time of Jake's House. There's almost a soft Johnson's Baby Powder note that lingers, verging on insipid, infantile. I'll try this again sometime when I'm feeling more charitable. On first exposure, it's a no from me.

I tried this on in the store the same day I tested a ton of other fragrances and I really liked it. I waited months to get a bottle and now I’m not so sure. I remember thinking it smelled like this addictive musky chlorine but now I’m worried I wasn’t getting a full read since I was testing so many things. It’s less unique than I thought, I feel like I’ve smelled tons of fragrances very similar at much more affordable prices, and it reads a lot more masculine which doesn’t align with my preferences. Over time the sharpness fades and I do get that addictive quality on the dry down which from reading the notes I think is coming from the honey, but it takes far too long to get to that point. This is a very happy and uplifting fragrance but I don’t like it enough to own a full bottle.
