Fourteen Carrots

I enjoyed this on its own, but over the course of a week or two this has become one of my all-time favorites for its versatility. On its own, it opens with a crisp, true-carrot note that melts into something spicy and subtly sweet. It felt a bit like going to a greenhouse and pulling carrots, washing them, shredding them and preparing the elements for a carrot cake, but not as far as baking it. It doesn't slip into gourmand territory, but slides between green and spice, with a soft, warm base. While I love wearing it on its own, it really works for layering my collection. It tends to slide under other scents and emphasize different elements in a way that makes something unique from wearing either scent alone. I've paired it with other Heretic scents in my collection including Black Salt, Nosferatu, and Pistil Whip. I also paired it with Beekeeper (although this fragrance was not my favorite), which worked well to bring out the sweetness and I imagine this could pair well with other, similar fragrances.

I got the Rhubarb Thief sample box from Heretic, and I was so pleasantly surprised by this one. Oud always scares me a little, and while Heretic is known for their "dirty" scents, this one felt very wearable. It reminded me of being on a farm in the summer. I enjoyed that this felt cleaner than their other scents. I have yet to properly wear it out to test how it reacts to my skin chemistry. I may update this later!

It starts with the most perfect buttery orris/ iris profile. Fourteen Carrots rounds out, radiating a subtle vegetal sweetness (sweet like fruit, not sugar) and a grounded creaminess (maybe the oud, cetalox, ambrettolide combination). I get the carrot cake comparison, but Fourteen Carrots is cake without frosting or like melmentomori says "the elements of carrot cake, but not as far as baking it."

This fragrance is so fun! Carrot seed is such a lovely rooty note. It keeps the perfume from being too sweet and it reminds me of having a picnic in the dirt.

I blind bought a 15ml bottle in anticipation of the Passover/Easter holidays this week. I also bought their new Beekeeper perfume which I plan to wear tomorrow. What I get from this fragrance is surprisingly straightforward from Hectic because it smells like a fresh glass of carrot juice with a bit of ginger and a strong oud base underneath. Right from the opening, the carrot seed and carrot absolute hit me in a way that feels more like juice than a raw vegetable. It’s slightly sweet, a little earthy, and has that pulpy, almost drinkable quality. The touch of orange peel adds just enough brightness to make it feel fresh and liquid, rather than dry or overly aromatic. Even though there’s no ginger listed, I clearly perceive it. The combination of warm clove and cool eucalyptus creates that familiar spicy-fresh contrast, and my brain reads it as ginger. It gives the scent a subtle kick, like that sharp bite you get in a juice blend. I often add ginger root to my juices to counterbalance acidity on my stomach. As it develops, the patchouli and vetiver bring in a grounded, earthy depth that reinforces the “root” quality. It starts to feel like unfiltered carrot juice, something with body and texture rather than something clean or transparent. In the drydown, the musks and woods smooth everything out. The ambrettolide and cetalox give it a soft, almost fluid texture that keeps that juice-like impression going, while the oud sits quietly in the background, adding a subtle woody, slightly resinous base.
