Hermessence Oud Alezan

Oud Alezan demonstrates to the rest of the market what a western Rose-oud combo should be. Most rose ouds are sadly a weird and unbearable mix of heavy synths that satisfy the common misconceptions that performance = price and smells foreign= luxurious. Instead Christine Nagel has chosen to focus on creating a scent where the notes work in unison instead of having a screaming match with each other. The rose note is well done and the use of rose water gives it a layer delicacy that is rare in this genre while the oud is just the right balance of animalic and dry woody. Thankfully there is very little if any of that fake unconvincing arabian vibe that so many western brands try to put in their ouds in an attempt to be exotic. Overall probably one of the best western rose ouds out there along side Nicolais Rose Oud

Oud rose perfume. You know what it smells like, it isn't going to surprise you. By the deep dry down this is all sweet roses. If you compare this with the goat of oud rose frags (ombre nomad) this is a much lighter, sweeter scent that's in the same ballpark. Honestly I prefer it, LV ON is too much for me. I actually like that this one doesn't last till the heat death of the universe. You get about 2 hours of oud/rose projection and then a much closer sweet rose. My least favourite thing about this is that during the opening I get a strange damp wood / damp garage note. Projection: 7/10 Longevity: 6/10 Quality: 8/10

So short notes breakdown, so powerfull and captivating. I tested it today and fell in love. On the test strips the rose is strong and dominant while on the skin (mine at least) it kinda steps back and the oud kicks in. It is not the kind of oud most ppl don't like. It's opulent, it's sexy and definitely unlike other rose oud accords. Very expensive but I see why this price tag is so steep although part of it is of course down to the name.

At this point people should realize that oud/rose isn't going anywhere. Instead, think of it as another category (i.e. white floral, leather, aquatic, rose-oud). This one is really nice, but not long lasting, I don't mind it though because the opening is so delicious, so you can spray again later on and it can be worn in warm weather. Perfect combo of the two ingredients; the rose is truly floral/botanical, must be the rose water.

Criminally underrated! I have many rose/oud fragrances in my collection and this is my favorite. I usually tire of this type of scent because the rose is too punchy or the oud is too fecal. This has a smooth Oud and a soft rose. It doesn’t try to do “too much”. This is a compliment magnet.

One of the best interpretations of the oud + rose combo type of fragrance. It is not abrasive or harsh like most oud rose fragrances I've smelt. It's a very good lovely scent. It has this sweet, juicy, jammy, and effervescent rose which is very well complemented by the intense oud.

Just got it after teething with the tester, As an aficionado with more than 100 titles I can confidently say this will surprise you pleasantly. Tasteful, Lasting Subtle.. you will know where your money went, so will others.

Oh my god this smells so seductive and intoxicating. I usually hate the combo of oud and rose and usually dislike most oud. But I smelled this today and fell in love. It’s such a unique smelling oud, I need this.

Elegant rose oud for the introvert. Great scent yet so intimate that it is an outlier for the scent profile. Rose oud for the agoraphobic. Scent 9/10 Extreme finesse. Sillage 4/10 Disappointment. Value 3/10.

It is impossible for me to be objective with this review as this is my single favourite fragrance. Oud and rose done absolutely perfectly, there is not a single this I would personally change in this.

For the first edp from Hermes, it’s really good ! Oud & roses. It’s unique ? Idk. Old fashioned ? Maybe. Try yourself Edit : the dry down is really perfect

Beautiful Rose fragrance with soft leather accord, but no oud there. Much longer longevity comparing to other perfumes from the same line.

Oud Alezan is a sweet-woody mysterious fragrance. It's very rosewater-forward on me, but with a restrained element one would expect. It's heady, but not overbearing. The smell makes me think of something festive and joyous, like a dinner party amongst friends. Oud Alezan definitely has presence. You can tell this one is an EDP versus and EDT as it lasts significantly longer than most of the Hermessences. While still intimate, the sillage is also a little bit broader than some of the others; people smell this one on me much more often than the EDTs. I (male) find this to be slightly feminine-leaning and sweet, but still unisex (and I wear it). This is also one where the cap color isn't a great representation of the scent, which I would put at more of a blushy pinky tan color. If you want a mature, smart kind of sweet scent with some lasting power, this one is worth checking out. Note that as an EDP, it's a bit more expensive than the others in the line.

I like this one a lot. Yes, it quite rosy but that’s ok. I love how big and bright the rose water/oud combo opens the perfume. The oud here is more subtle than other oud perfumes but to my nose the oud quality is much higher. Oud oils aren’t naturally loud anyway so this tells me there is at least some of the real thing in Oud Alezan. Projection is decent for about an hour or 2 then it softens considerably. On me it lasts about 4 to 6 hours before it becomes mostly a faint skin scent. Still very beautiful though and kudos to Nagel.

In the Philippines, where most rose-oud fragrances can be overwhelming, this is probably your best bet. Calm, balanced, and confident, it never tries to compete for attention or do too much. That’s not to say it’s weak. Four hours in, it still smells like a fresh spray, though it stays closer to the skin. Criminally underrated. If you love rose-oud, this is a must. If you’re just curious and want to dip a toe in, this might be the only one you need. 8/10 ✨

There’s a lot more oud in this than what I was expecting from both the Hermessence line as well as the early comments here. The oud here is of a higher quality than the oud in the LV line of Sables Roses & Ombre Nomad (as would be expected from Hermes compared to LV products). There is however a very strong similarity between them. This is a feminine release.

A light, airy, green and watery rose backed by a clean and subtle oud with no hints of daring and animalic facets. Doesn’t add anything particularly new to the genre, but good for those who want a quiet and non-cloying rose/oud done in a classy and elegant Hermes style

Smells like the typical rose/oud/vanilla/Patchouli combo That was done over and over and over again. But to be honest, it's lovely to smell. Performs nicely Cheers

Oud Alezan surprised me by being... polite. No barnyard, no medicinal sting, no mystery of rotting wood. Instead, it unfolds with a steady inhale of agarwood’s resinous warmth, dry yet rounded, thankfully none of that expected swampy drift. The rose drapes itself over the oud like turkish petals, soft and velvety, lending just enough phenylethyl lift to keep the resin from turning flat. Yet here’s the truth in all its... unglory: I’m not an oud convert. I admire the craftsmanship—the way guaiac-rich heartwood smoke entwines with that elegant rosedew—yet on my skin it always feels kinda insistent for my liking. That backbone of wood oil presses close, a leathery whisper that never quite lets the florals breathe. Hmm. It’s not offensive. Far from it. There’s elegance in its ambery depths, a calm dignity in its ambery oud accord. But I don’t love it. I feel it more than I wear it, this gentle weight on the pulse a reminder that oud and I have different languages. Still, if you seek a rose-oud duet that avoids theatrics, well, I’ll leave the oud chapters to someone else’s story.

Oud Alezan Hermessence (Store test) I am testing Cedre Sambac at this moment. And its unique composition make me wanna buy one. My another passionate olfactive is Rose & Oud. I wonder how Negel interpreted my favorite combo. I except a bit much more or unique twist But Oud Alezan.. just interpreted this combo Back to 2016, YSL Majestic Rose, I still own it; or even, another work from JML, velvet rose & oud. Oud Alezan is candier (mortal), less woody. At least I am happy that some house carried on this certain type of Oud-Rose combo And consider Hermessence, this might be perfect for audiance. It is ok to own, truly ok. The classic oud-rose. My local veteran fragrance venturers said that when it comes to Oud-Rose how far can you twist?, it might be true and I will pick it when I found a good deal but.. LVMH seems to push Oud Note recently. Guerlain with 3 Ouds and Oud Alezan. I can’t think other way except I think it is a bit rush. 7/10

Just because Hermès almost missed the train of oud trend releasing Oud Alezan years after everyone, I wasn't sure. When I asked in Hermès boutique: what took Hermès so long to offer an oud creation? I've been told it took them time to find the best roses provider, it's a family run business making exclusive rose essence, blah blah... it may be perfection for some but I can't help thinking that Rose/Oud combo is so basic that it reminds me cheap Indian or middle east oil roll-ons, and those are at least long lasting, unlike Alezan. Gonna stick to my beloved Acqua di Parma Oud and Oud Sharqia.

Familiar, but elegantly blended rose-oud. Oud Alezan opens with a sweetened rose, that is fresh and almost transparent in texture with a metallic edge. The oud is present from the opening and can be described as oily-medicinal. Most likely a combination of actual oud and an oud accord. As the fragrance progresses the rose note moves to the background to reveal a darker, woodier base with a consistent underlying sharpness. The blending is marvelous, quality is there, it's just a bit too sweet and sharp for me.

Not jammy or synthetic at all if that is your concern. Basically rose water. I personally do not care for rose, I was only wanting to try the Hermessence line so I am indifferent to this.

I only got a mini of this one in a set with Osmanthe Yunnan, Épice Marine, and Agar Ebène and regret every one of them. So Oud Alézan: It starts well, nothing too special, just a woody oud with some rosewater. After about an hour the rose and rosewater predominate. Still some woody notes, but very weak. The rose note is between the sweet honey rose of Guerlain's Rose Centifolia and the acidic (I dunno how else to describe it) Forte Rosa Rossa. Sillage moderate, longevity moderate if you are an oily-skinned person. The oud sucks but the rose is decent. I'll say get this for the rose rather than the oud. I'll be letting my coworker who likes rose scents try this and she can keep it if she likes it. Leans warm. Autumn and winter.

This is an odd one. I'm smelling a lot of white soap flakes & super "clean" musks under the first flush of roses and oud. This doesn't have the dark, magnetic quality I usually associate with the rosey oud fragrances. Not a scrubber exactly, but also not one I feel like I would ever wear.

Hermes should either start respecting oud and using it the proper way or stop playing with these fake woody notes and keep calling them OUD Their first disaster was agar ebene and what a disaster it was This one is just as bad with adding rose accord and asking a price of an arm and a leg Oh the first edp of the collection Oh it’s named after a horse What kind of marketing is this Overall a disaster not because the scent is mediocre but because it was overhyped for no reason

Perfect addition to the wonderful and very chic Hermessence line. These fragrances are about the interplay of (seemingly) few ingredients that bring out the best in eachother. Oud Alezan is no exception. True, this rose & oud combo brings nothing new, but wow, it's so well done, and it smells incredibly sophisticated. It highlights the multifaceted beauty of oud with all its bold, medicinal, animalic, minty and woody nuances against a floral, warm backdrop of rose. But Hermes style! So perfectly orchestrated, nothing out of tune, nothing offensive, yet assertive enough. Sprayed lightly it makes for a wonderful all season day scent, while delivering opulence and richness in the evening when applied with a slightly heavier hand. Needless to say: I love it!

Oud Alezan is a highly sophisticated and clean fragrance. It blends light, natural oud with delicate rose notes, and I believe there is something extra that makes this an oud scent that appeals to individuals from east to west. This is a testament to the perfumer's ability to create the ideal blend that will attract many. The aroma evokes a sense of dignity and grandeur. This perfume exudes classicism, and I was so satisfied that I purchased a refill after finishing it. The weird thing is, you never get bored of it. It's an absolutely lovely smell. This fragrance is calling out to those who enjoy light oud with a regal touch, saying, "I am here!" Overall 10/10

I semelled it and tried it on skin without knowing it was an Hermèssence. To me, it smells rose/ patchouli and a bit Chypre. The rose aspect is quite dry and not juicy or fruity praline. Then the woody part is well balanced. I just do not detect any oud part in that fragrance. That said, it smells very nice but not original at all. I feel like I smelled it 10 times before (maybe at Francis Kurkdjian or Armani privé rose..., a Narciso for her limited edition for the Middle East, maybe?... cannot remember...)

It’s quite nice. Nothing groundbreaking because we’ve obviously smelled a lot of rose and Oudh scent profiles before. This is quite simplistic, more rose than Oudh. There’s no barnyard animalic tones here. It’s fresh, clean, polished. It is airy and expansive which is sometimes difficult to execute with agarwood as a prime note. It is a very wearable and inoffensive rendition of this combination making it perfect for an every day scent or signature. It is Oudh and rose in watercolour.

I agree with @Garion. We know what an oud/rose combo smells like and it won't surprise you. But gosh, it's still gorgeous. What I like about this one is the rose accord. It's modern and fresh, thanks to what seems like an overdose of rose oxide. Rose Oxide has a metallic effect. Very green, sharp, and vibrant. This combined with a refined—albeit cleaned up—oud note makes this perfume lighter and fresher than the usual rose/oud fanfare. I enjoyed it.

Is it good fragrance? Yes it is Do we need another classical rose oud? No Same DNA as rose d arabie, rose omeyade, radical rose, oud silk mood. I was expecting something revolutionary in parfumery. Thats where my disappointment is. But still it smells amazing

Galop d'hermes with more jammy scent and oud scent. I feel saffron from its ozonic (or I can say it is medicinal) and patchouli. a discreet touch of oud. Somewhat it reminds me of Noir de Noir or Tuscan Leather, and Cafe Rose (the renewed bottle) by Tom Ford

Very nice smelling rose water. But gone in 30 minutes. I don't expect beast mode at all. But eau fraiche performance is not what i expected. Shameful performance.

Transparent, bold oud with sour, rosy, ozonic, metallic elements. On skin Oud Alezan has similarities with Agar Ebene (the oud note).

If this smells anything like Henry Jacques Correspondence I’m gonna be SO happy!!! Will give my opinion once I get my nose on this.

The opening is about strong, medicinal and animalic oud/rose/leather combo. The dry down reminds me of Vuitton's Ombre Nomade.

A polite oud note with jammy dark roses. Nothing exceeds in here: Balance and nobless.

Oud rose again? You guys know there's more materials to work with, right?
