Rouge Hermès

This masterpiece and discontinued perfume smell amazing. This perfume is a must for any serious collector. I love how the sweet rose, spicy, myrtle, vanilla, and wooden notes are blended perfectly. It lasts a long time. You only need two sprays, which last over 14 hours on my skin. On clothes it lasts days. The rich rose fragrance is the best I have ever smelled, as a perfumista with over 300 bottles of rare perfume. This perfume is classy, positive, and makes me happy. I have two bottles of this rare perfume because it is so good. If you like Guerlain's Chamade perfume, it does have a similar theme. I tried the Chamade perfume and smelt this fragrance in it, which I adore. The sweet, jammy rose smell is luxurious, rich, and has no rough notes. My husband, who rarely comments on my perfume, noticed this and liked it. The perfume is easy to use. The red rectangular bottle is very attractive and is the first formulation. I have had this perfume for over 13 years it still smells fantastic. I wear this perfume in winter, at night and day. If you have a special function, date or wedding, it lingers wonderfully without becoming overpowering. I only spray twice on each wrist more than you are overspraying. I can smell glorious wifts. It is my favourite fragrance because it is a timeless classic. This perfume comes from a time when the quality focus shines. I think that this Hermes perfume is the best this house has ever made. I cherish this perfume and wear it on special occasions. I do not know why this perfume was discontinued because it is exquisite. This perfume is excellent value for money. I think this could be unisex depending on your body chemistry.

Samsara's classier, richer and more spectacular looking younger cousin, whom manages to carry off this whole chypre floral affair, effortlessly; wherever she goes and whatever she does. She' is a masterpiece and she is all woman in red dress that is scented with rose, spices, sandlewood and Ylang-Ylang.. I feel like if I saw her in the flesh, she'd look like Penelope Cruz, or slightly older, or a more mature person like Sophia Loren.. In public she moves in silence. Not drawing attention to herself in a way that screams " im here". Because she is a secure and a validated person in life and she knows who she is.. Complete and resplendent. A completely relatable but delightfully exotic looking vision with long dark, tousled hair, flashing doe eyes and a smidgen of black eyeliner under her eyes. Classically dressed in European fashion as opposed to American with nothing to indicate that she's wearing designer at all. Yet you know by the cut, simplicity and the crispness of her style. She is no follower of fashion but style. She is fashion. She is art and cannot be imitated. As she is as authentic as it gets and her inner beauty radiates far and wide, giving her a natural, brown skinned glow. Harking to her travels throughout the Orient. Her perfume enters the room..Long before she does and when she leaves. Her scent is comforting and zen like. Not brash and not heavy. Demure and understated with an elegance not afforded to the frivolities of youth. This is Hermes Rouge in a nutshell.

like a love child between vintage guerlain nahema extrait and vintage samsara edp, that then grew up to be even bolder than both her parents. maybe even a bit gaudy, but in a charming and appealing way. lovely. if you are a fan of samsara and nahema, you must try this-you will love it. to me, this is a major deviation from hermès’s very recognizable signature style, in keeping with the love child metaphor, it’s like a guerlain that just got adopted by hermès. sure it’s got that vintage feminine hermès sophistication, but its dna is 100% guerlain, and clearly i’m not the only one who feels this way seeing as most of its “smells like” comparisons are guerlains. i have yet to smell chamade, so i can’t comment on any similarities there, but would not find that surprising in the least. also, i’m surprised that some reviewers see this as an “office safe” type of perfume. not that you couldn’t wear it to work (personally i don’t do the whole “office safe” thing anyway, i really don’t care for those types of scents. i wear what i like, just less, if need be) but to me, this is a very, VERY romantic and sensual scent. it makes me think of a romantic night, perhaps in front of the fireplace, getting intimate with your lover. it’s not a first date scent for making an impression, it’s too intimate for that, it’s for being with the one who already shares your heart. but of course you could wear it whenever you like (and i will too), this is just the ideal scenario to wear this, in my mind.

Last year I went in pursuit of Carnation scents, which led me to Hermes Rouge. Is there not Carnation in here somewhere? I was intrigued by the idea of something at once spicy and powdery. I do love spice, Carnation, Cinnamon, cloves. The year before was all about Immortelle, so this is quite a departure. I think before I found this my current favorite was Fragonard's Billet Doux, a complex and somewhat tamed Carnation. I actually reach for this more than any other. Because I am so fond of it, and the many comments on the vintage vs. current, I went in pursuit of the original Parfum D'Hermes. I now have a large bottle of the Parfum and 2 minis, a small round red bottle, and taller 3.3 oz (red) bottle, recent/ vintage? I went into my local Hermes store and tried the current production n the tall clear bottle, and honestly, can not tell the difference. I do not think the vintage is very much different from the current production. When I thought they were discontinuing it I was tempted to stock up (I think I already have). It is something I do not want to ever be without, but I think with over 8 oz. in different vintages, I am probably covered for life. I know I have not said much about the notes, but I find it very well blended and only on occasional am I aware of individual notes. It is what had led me to it, a refined, spicy, powdery scent. Not screaming, moderate silage, great longevity. Very wearable.

First of all I want to use the opportunity to send LT to hell with his post-traumatic syndrome regarding Hermes Rouge. Someone bad in his childhood fed poor Luca by horrible CHEAP(god forbid) chocolate, so outcomes are terrific – now and then olfactory system of this genius gives away and projects the rays of ill sacrasm under mask of humour on some great frags that Turin's brain is reluctant to appreciate coz of those childhood nightmares. Lets not forget poor Must Cartier who suffered from those memories the most. God bless. Back to Rouge Hermes. Apart that it's absolutely stunning magical dusty rose and that sandal reminds me of Samsara a lot, I want to applaud to the review of archivist , who had noticed and nailed the very essence of Rouge - antiquarian occult bookstore. As a big lover of ancient dusted books, manuscrypts and libraries I can see clearly how the drydown reminds her all this very rare moments, the atmosphere of hidden world and symbols, it's excitement and..serenity in one. Saying all that to all people who are not dust-paper addicted – it is the most creamy rich lipsticky rose (on a manner of Miss Dior Originale in heart) I ever had a chance to smell, - bold, posh and yet..very relaxed. So I think that those who love creamy sandal in Samsara, spices in a manner of Caron Sacre and Miss Dior's "lipstick" will be glad to add Rouge Hermes in their collection.

Update: Highly anticipated arrival of my Parfum d'Hermes in the rounded, donut-shaped bottle (aka Hermes Rouge). I am expecting something on the level of Caleche, which I really like a lot. Initial impression: burst of muted aldehydes, warm florals then a smell like rich Raid! bug spray! I will hope that this develops into something much more wonderful than this! Ok, after about 5 minutes or so I am sensing warm spices and sandalwood with lilac, which then appears amber and vanilla. When I inhale the scent deeply and slowly these notes are what I get. This has become more wonderful as time goes on and I say this is a wonderful perfume that suits my body chemistry well. Compared to others, I am not getting much rose, it is there but well blended among the other notes which I sense more prominently. I would even go so far as to say that, at dry down, this is reminiscent of HEMs Church Incense, but in parfum version, made with perfumers alcohol. Very oriental vibe and truly lovely scent. I only sprayed a little near my wrists. I think if this one is over sprayed it can become cloying at first, but will eventually settle down. It is not overpowering, as most parfums can be. I feel it is elegant and composed and a parfum to treasure.

I am reviewing the new version of this and not vintage. Rouge for me reminds me a bit of my bottle of Lorenzo Villoresi Alamut. A beautiful dusty sandalwood rose w/ yellow florals and Iris. The rose for me is stronger in Rouge than in Alamut. When I wear Alamut I get more narcissus. The sandalwood here is so beautiful and strong. This is a very woody fragrance, but it never comes off like pencil shavings. This is the most beautiful silty dusting powder of the finest quality. I get an almost frosty tone here as well, the same that I get w/ Alamut. Alamut for me was like cool water over warm stones. The water gently warms but it smooths the jagged edges of stone. The water and stone become one. In Rouge I get a cool powder that has covered a vase of the deepest red roses and the richest purple iris. The powder looks like snow, and it coats the flowers in a crystal-like frost. This perfume is both warm and cold. Rich but delicate. Sensual and strong yet gentle and tender. Very womanly. This is a perfume for a woman who has seen a bit life, girls need not apply. Beautiful, and alluring Rouge captivates and smolders. Even though I own Alamut I still want a bottle of Rouge. This is gorgeous, it is timeless, a classic.

Reformulated or not, this is passion, plain and simple!! I think the ad, with the woman wrapped in flames yet not being consumed, is quite apropos... For being re-released in 2003, this still smells classic and slightly vintage, though every Hermes I have smelled emanates class and sophistication. No bright citrus opening here...right to the seductive and rich florals that enchant and intrigue me. Ylang, rose and iris: what a cobination! Romantic, rich and powdery it gets your attention right NOW! Floral on its face, it is exotic and oriental in its heart of hearts. Sandal, cedar (lebanese no doubt), vanilla and amber bewitch and beguile. The drydown here has chypricity (is that even a word?!), but has no moss or patchouli; instead it uses myrrh (not myrtle, to my nose) and a melange of spices and some cistus resin to rest on the skin it warm spicy powdery haze. Gorgeous and lovely, great for winter. Excellent for intimacy ;-)... Sillage: good Longevity: very good Overall: 4.5/5 I love chypres, but oriental spicies are more my thing...this is the best of both! Dreamy flowers, heady woods and warm incensy spice with just enough vanilla to smooth it all out! This is spectacular...

Hermes rouge is a masterpiece Most masterpieces are great works of art but are not wearable in modern says for a young adult,hermes rouge IS a classic,old style,but still lovely and wearable but just in the case that you love very rich,heavy powdery florals with thick woods and spicy amber Initial whiff is not my favorite,too heavy and too much of everything.. Just give it some time and it will settle to a super gorgeous rose,tones of powder,powdery iris,rich sweet ylang-ylang,dominant sandalwood,creamy and thick,blended very well with spicy amber and some vanilla,it is truely a floral amber oriental,as it's mentioned on it's tester bottle Hermes rouge is a mature scent,and a unique one,not for faint hearts..but it's mature and confident in a sensual,velvety and deep,soft,warm way..I find it feminine but in past days,in modern days it's wearable even by men,but only who love powdery flora I adore it and I'm crazily happy to own a bottle of this well rounded,unbelievably beautiful blend Though it's spicy,and thick and very powdery and heavy,it's not cloying or overwhelming My bottle is a vintage edt,still sillage and Longevity are great..a sensual powder bomb

I've been wearing this for a couple of days and slowly falling head over heels in love, but thinking to myself, what does this remind me of? Then I read Yohji's stunning review and I thought OMG, this is like a more beautiful, more polished, less harsh, Samsara. How did I ever miss that?? Hermes Rouge, where do I begin? This opens with a beautiful array of woody, spicy, floral accords and sits elegantly on the skin, projecting just enough, to entice those who are lucky enough to get a wiff of it. Floral bursts of loveliness keep exploding from my wrist and arm as this magical juice works wonders on my skin. The drydown is perfect and beautiful. Creamy sandalwood and rose come into play here as this magical fragrance settles down. Hermes are top notch in my book, I adore their perfumes, all of them and Rouge is no exception. If you love a more vintage vibe to your fume and favour that unique French chic, then I implore you to try this stunning creation. Excellent longevity and silage, perfection in my humble opinion.

I totally agree with boruvka44 and monamonib. They have described Rouge perfectly, so I probably cannot add too much here. For years, I have been looking for a scent I could call my own and, I believe, this is it. I have also noticed the strong similarity to Miss Dior (my "other" signature scent), but Miss Dior is more aldehydic and harsher, while Rouge is smoother and creamier. The cholocate covered cherries smell more like raspberries to me, and I can't seem to get enough of them... I also love the incense of myrtle which, being the base note, is a lovely grounding factor. I just have the mini of Rouge, for now, but I'm seriously contemplating splurging on the full size. Yes, this is a masterpiece, and love at first sniff... Longevity: 8+ hours; Sillage: initially 4 inches, then tapers down to a very decent 3.

I'm sorry for all of those whose skin doesn't love Rouge. This is definitely unisex, though. What I get from this fragrance are warm spices and sandalwood, wrapped in vanilla and a faint trace of roses. I also get what seems like a sugary cinnamon (ie. Big Red chewing gum). This isn't the typical pick-me-up citrus/aqua-based "teen spirit" fragrance. This is a warm, mellow, smooth fragrance that I'd label as mature and plush. This is to be worn with warm colors, luxurious/suave attire and enjoyed in a "warm" indoor setting or in cold weather on the way to that "warm" setting. Rouge smells excellent on my skin and I'm glad to have finally checked it out. I totally "get" this fragrance. After receiving and sampling this today, I ordered a bottle (anxious to add this to my growing Hermes collection).

A decadent and heavy old-fashioned powdery powerhouse. Projects opulence and chique, but may be way too loud and rich for some noses. I fell in love with this back in Paris, and the scent opens up especially beautifully in the shrill wet cold of the French autumn-winter days, but didn't want to get a full bottle since it would be way too much given how expansive my perfume collection already is. Finally got myself a 10ml vial and that should be more than enough for years, given how potent Rouge is. I have yet to see how it will fare in my hometown, with winters that are colder yet crisper and not as piercing. On my skin, it becomes a sweet powder wih a hint of something mossy and woody underneath. Very beautiful.

the name is very fitting, rich and warm and red. Love the richness of this fragrance. It does smell of rich woods and beeswax and plush velvet. The florals are soft and elegant and then it dries down to soft powder,smells like an expensive face powder to me, like a great theater actress would wear. I love the sandalwood and resins at the end. I suppose it does smell a little like church, but in a good way, a comforting way. It must the the resins and incense. It lasts a good long time as do most hermes scents. I also agree with Jae that it can be worn by both sexes. It is feminine, in an old world way, but it isn't girly. I love it and think it will make a great fall and winter scent.

Among all the fragrances this is one of the gems from another universe. From the universe of an outstanding perfection... Rouge is the most sophisticated, sensual and enchanting thing I have met. It is seducing my senses the way only few things in the life can do. Rose-woody powder with a hint of incense- so utterly intoxicating on my skin, as in my hair I detect the most heavenly adorable spicy rose. It does become only more enjoyable with time. Rouge only accepts fine lingerie, hair done, high heels and a lipstick to go in her company. Dress up, naturally! I'd describe Rouge as the finest, deepest pleasure to the brain. An exquisite, long term appeal.

Very powerful, rich, glorious classic floral scent. Rich and powerful, velvety, deep, luxurious rose; sweet, rich, fruity yang-ylang, spicy amber, sandalwood and myrtle. Divine and everlastingly strong. Right from the very first powerhouse blast, to the fabulously resinous end, it is a stunning, heavy spicy floral perfume. I love it so much. I wish it would never end. Definitely for resin, spice and rose lovers! That's me!!!! Fabulous fiery-red, elegant, glamorous, classy and powerful-looking bottle, which reflects the power of the perfume to a tee. BEAUTIFUL. It is truly a masterpiece. Definitely.

This is a pre-review of the original (pre-Rouge) version of my blindly bought 'Parfum-d Hermes. This is the round, donut-shaped bottle with a gold piece between the 11 and 1 o'clock position directly below the gold cap). First couple of minutes it smells like just opened bonbonniere, still smelling the waxed paper covering cherries in dark chocolate. Cherry liquor smells through the creamy dark chocolate, not bitter or boozy though. Then comes deep red rose and powder (waxy-soapy myrrh) It`s velvety, creamy, rich, very POWDERY.. On me it smells very similar to Chamade (less bitter, more roses) I have EDT and it lasts about 10 hours on my skin, not bad! Plus beautiful Hermes flacon again, the rectangular one. Tester comes with a cap.

This is a gorgeous, rich spicy/floral fragrance evocative of dewy velvety red rose buds, irises & sandalwood all blended seamlessly by Hermes, I own the original formula in the red oval bottle, although presented as eau de toilette lasting power is surprising and phenomenal at 4 to 5 hours, a shame this is so hard to find now. I use sparingly and for those special occasions, I doubt this will pass my way again, always on the lookout for another bottle. A definite winner from the esteemed house of Hermes!!!!

Referring to the original parfum d'hermes. I have been wearing this perfume for 20 years, always in the late fall season. Few perfumes are so distinctively associated with a season for me. A very classy scent to wear with wool and cashmere. Very unique scent, understandably loved or hated. I don't get compliments on it as I do with Coco Mademoiselle from Chanel but I feel like I am making a statement when I wear it. The grim late Fall becomes a season of celebration thanks to this perfume.

Glorious Rouge!!! Magnificent spicy, rosy, warm, sweet and woody perfume. Beautiful smell! Absolutely divine. Beautifully deep and alluring. Feminine and strong, rich and potent. Deeply romantic. My husband swoons over me!! Delightful! And, it's wonderfully long lasting (12-14 hours!) and stays strong for most of that time! And perfect sillage to bring me heaps (I mean heaps!! Everyone loves it!!) of beautiful compliments. I am definitely in love with Hermes Rouge Hermes!!

This is a beautiful woody floral scent. It's beautifully executed. Don't be put off by its strong opening. It settles down into a deep smooth scent. I love how it smells. Definitely on the feminine side but that doesn't degrade its beauty. To me it's on the formal side but leave it to ladies to decide. I have it and I am happy that it sits in my collection.

It is a very mystic and abstract scent. I sniff no flowers or spices. I sniff only wood and stones. Like in an old church drenched with frankincense, wax, bygone flowers and surprisingly as well fresh slaked lime. Turin was crazy when he smelt chocolate. There are no such a vulgar components in this fragrance.

Dusty dried petals of dark rose, galbanum and iris on a woody peppery incensey base. A unique vintage soapy feel without being dated. Develops finely outside by temperatures under +20C. I didn‘t smell anything like this in chypres before. This lady is an intelligent, stylish and self-possesed seductress!

For my birthday, in early March, I received a giftset with a 50 ml vintage EDT, body creme and 5 ml. mini. EDT in the vintage is more like (today's) PARFUM... Amazing sillage and wonderful longevity!! Thank the perfumed gods that some sites STILL carry original formulations!

Very unusual in the best way, RH combines commonly used notes like rose and ylang ylang in an unexpected way. A little spicy with a tiny hint of floral sweetness, RH is a wonderful oddball, and a delight to wear. Moderate sillage and lasting power, this one's work safe.

This always takes me straight back to my childhood. It smells exactly like one of my great aunts, and every time I wear it, I feel this deep, warm nostalgia. I love how it connects me to those old memories without feeling outdated.

Creamy dark chocolate tempered by red rose and powder. Classy and indulgent, Rouge offers a rich sensory experience evocative of firewood and soft spice. Delicious. If you enjoy refined sandalwood scents, go for it!

Yes, it's powdery. It's also DIVINE. I always get compliments when I wear this. Sensual, rich, comfy, mature. Mind you, I said 'mature,' not 'old.'

Love love love the perfume... Classic-chic-long lasting-for winter and autumn.

The Lady in Red... Rouge by Hermès is an intriguing and complex scent. This is the old, "classic" Hermès, not the "current" Hermès of Jean-Claude Ellena and recent years. This is a perfume which is thirty years old. Having said that, I don't find it old at all... or even mature. To me, this perfume represents a beautiful young lady wearing a red dress. I would call it beautiful and seductive, but in a very "grown-up" way, this isn't for any teenage girls, this is for a young, successful & attractive woman. Someone who is in control, but who still knows she is beautiful. It's a complex fragrance to describe. Essentially it's a combination between Rose, Sandalwood, Ylang-Ylang and powdery Orris, with a touch of spices and Aldehydes. It is almost "dusty" at first, but becomes very smooth later as the Sandalwood and Vanilla take over in the dry-down. I also detect a wonderful note which I love, Myrtle, a fresh, Jasmine-like powdery note which I enjoy smelling... and which gives the fragrance projection. To me, Rouge actually smells similar to Samsara by Guerlain, but this is slightly more formal in my opinion. It's grown-up fragrance for sure, but not "old". The woman who wears this is in control. Beautiful and seductive, but in control of the situation around her. I call this "the lady in the red dress". Beautiful and intelligent, and a little dangerous (in a seductive kind of way). This also smells of luxury, elegance and class (after all, that is what Hermès is known for as a brand). So you would expect a woman who smells like this to have money... A lot of money. Overall, I think Rouge is very in-control and seductive, and would be a great one to wear to formal events (men dressed in dark suits, the women with gold bracelets, pearl necklaces, in a party with caviar and champagne cocktails - remember this was originally created in the 1980's... where "style" was big and elegant)! Because of this, it can be loud and strong (people can notice you)... but if you spray a little, I think it can work in any situation, and it's warm enough to be worn casually, but in small quantities. A warm, spicy, almost aristocratic fragrance, but which also has some surprises (by also being slightly seductive). Maybe not something for a very young woman, but someone with enough experience and intelligence can definitely wear it. Ruby red elegance in a bottle!

It would be difficult to select the most obnoxious entry in The Holey [sic] Book--so many candidates!--but surely in the running is Turin's exhortation to the house of Hermès that they discontinue Rouge. What????? Bear in mind that in the same tome of screed, the author reveals that he himself was a failure during his short-lived tenure at the helm of a niche perfume house. So Hermès, a wildly successful perfume house (and with good reason!), is supposed to heed his advice precisely ... why? Turin's tirade is all the more incomprehensible given the lavish praise bestowed upon Guerlain Chamade, which is clearly the elder half-sister of Rouge. Chamade may have more rose, and Rouge more aldehydes, but the resemblance is undeniable. In fact it reminds me a bit of my Argentinian friend's uncle who for decades denied that he was the father of his former maid's daughter--though their facial features are remarkably similar (and highly distinct)! Rouge is a beautiful perfume--at least I can assert this with confidence about batch O1FM, which must have been produced a while ago (I picked it up at a discounter), since the ingredients list is only this: Alcohol Denat., Parfum, Aqua. As we all know, these days perfume houses list on the box everything under the sun under pressure from the IFRA. It no longer suffices to hide all of the chemical secrets with the catch-all "Parfum". I wanted to make sure that I was not imagining the similarity between Chamade and Rouge, so I am doing a direct side-by-side comparison, and I must insist that these two perfumes are very closely related in composition. If you like one, you'll like the other--unless of course you are the inscrutable and ill-bred author of The Holey [sic] Book.

When your perfume choices are restricted by the fear of smelling dated, you miss so much to insecurity. Years from now, if you continue to go down the rabbit hole of fragrance, you'll crave the subtleties of really well crafted scents and become bored with the aroma chemicals that pervade our choices today. Yes, scent has "decades" but we're wearing what was popular in the early 20th century now. Woody, what we'd call masculine scents were the norm for some incredibly feminine women. Shrug, no amount of telling will make ppl understand until they get bored, lol. This is Samsara but with rose instead of so much ylang. Also, I'd say the Guerlain has better sandalwood, but that's subjective. I've got the newer version but I've smelled the older one and I think they're quite similar even reformulated. The rose in the newer one is a rose I've been chasing in roses of today. Red, rich and spicy. Not a green rose bud, but a fully opened, firm rose. The rest of this scent is so open to interpretation but that rose is rose. I'm incredibly thankful that Hermes has kept this beauty relevant.

Rouge is an intensely spicy scent, at least on me. The first blast smells very strongly of spices and incense, and it stays this way for many hours. The scent eventually does soften (although it does take a while, say 6 hrs or so). I like it best then, when the heavy spice mellows out a bit and gives way to a bit of resiny sweetness. In my mind, this is very similar to Donna Karan Black Cashmere, although I do prefer Rouge as it seems less sharp and abrasive to me. I would expect that fans of Estee Lauder Youth Dew would probably like Rouge as well. This is one intense, long-lasting scent. I could smell it the next day, even though I have extremely dry, perfume-eating skin. I appreciate Rouge, and I much prefer it over both Youth Dew and Black Cashmere. However, it does smell strongly like church incense to me (especially in the first few hours it's on), and I don't know if I want to walk around smelling like a church.

This is very lovely. Very sharp beginning, reminding me of really fresh flowers after just blooming, then the other notes come forward, like an unfurling rose. Spices, woods, amber, vanilla. At this point, I feel like I am tranported to a lavish victorian bedroom with old wooden floors, lush burgandy velvet bedspread on a victorian canopy bed, old tapestries hanging on the walls, rococo furniture covered in deep red satin, and a dressing table with all of the works... sterling silver powder jars, hair receiver ,and swansdown puffs, and a bouquet of red roses in a crystal vase. This is a deep red rose, with face powder nuances. A very lovely classic perfume. Very powdery and rich. Wonderful staying power. Unique. The name and color of the bottle suits it very well, I also love the satin bag it comes with.

Damn this is strong :)Definitely a winter or fall fragance. I think today (warm, summer) isn't a good day to test it but I was dying to try it. So right hand Caleche EDT and left hand Hermes Rouge. They smell pretty alike in the first minutes. Rose is the strongst flower in both. After some minutes Rouge turns into a very dark and smoky scent. A dark and scary forest with witches flying around, this is what comes to my mind. This is a gothic scent, black, just shadows, till now no lights at all. I can still smell Caleche under Rouge but smoke plays the main part in it. In this stage Rouge smells like Madame Rochas, the same smoke note. I miss something here, a bit sweetness to soften it a little bit. Ok one more scent to test in the coming fall... Update wil follow...

Can never work out which I prefer out of this and Parfum d'Hermes as they are quite similar. I re familiarised myself with rouge Hermes yesterday and I have to say I enjoy it's themes. Powdery rose, talcum powder soft musk, and an exotic soft fruity peach/apricot vibe from Ylang and smoothness of sandalwood and orris/iris in the base. There's also a hint of cloves which with the powdery florals creates a subtle effect of carnation to my nose. Dries down quite feminine and although I don't pay that too much attention and only bring it up as there are several Hermes fragrances I'd like ahead of this, which just happen to be a little more masculine leaning. That's my take!

I didn't know Rouge dates back to 1934! It smells old-style but not old. I would have said it was from '80s. It's a very bold and strong fragrance and I like it in small doses, better an EdP, only a squirt is enough! It smells very vanillic and ambery, also woody and just floral at the beginning. It is probably too heavy for many people. I smell only little fruit (not listed) and no citrus! This is maybe the reason why someone may perceive it as "sad". There is no initial citrusy burst, instead there is a powerhouse floral start! I like to wear this red scent. Not much beloved by others anyway.

If you enjoy the complexity of Opium, you may also like and be interested in this deep warm and misterious scent named Rouge. This fragrance is very sophisticated and intense: Spices,Sandalwood and Ylang-Ylang are so well combined. In my personal opinion I find Rouge a beautiful red gem, cuz today's fragrances lacks of personality and complexity. I don't think it's overwhelming cuz is an Eau de Toilette. It's retro but definitely not the old lady tipe. Rouge is a Red Goddess to use in especial events, not an every-day fragrance. Try it!

Hermes Rouge is quite lovely. I get a somewhat similar vibe as Guerlain Chamade, but there are distinct differences to my nose. Rouge is spice, sandalwood, iris and ylang ylang to me. It is powdery, and nicely so. Both fragrances have an abundance of aldehydes, with Rouge having a bit more. Chamade is to me, sweeter, and the Hyacinth is very pronounced, and that is primarily why I find it different from Rouge. Both of these beauties have and will stand the test of time. To me, they are timeless elegance in bottled form.

I agree with nero77's review. This is stunning and would be the perfect accessory for an evening out. Opulent yet restrained, it's like Samsara but with some resins and aldehydes thrown in. Samsara (which I also love) is softer somehow; this is more structured but still retains a warm quality. The comparison that springs to mind is wine based; Samsara is a smooth, big, easy drinking red and Rouge is tannic and has more grip. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it.

I think this is a winter scent. It is rich and smells like incense to me, sort of exotic. I don't smell the roses. A little goes a long way and it lasts all day on me. I find it to be a cozy smell but not one for spring days or sunshine, more dark days by the fire with a book or going to an elegant evening out. I agree it could be unisex, great for the man who likes Aramis or other spicy heavy scents.

Hermes Rouge EDT is a beautiful, feminine, creamy, warm, intense, strong spicy floral. It lasts forever when sprayed in my hair. On my skin, it lasts a good 12 hours or more, wearing closer to skin as time passes. I LOVE the incense blended spices that stay, all the way through the drydown. If you like YSL Opium, or Guerlain Samsara, you really should try Hermes Rouge.

Yes, pretty much a red scent but I find it also find it marbled with kind of a deep tan, a rich golden brown, not quite amber, just a rich warm brown. On a less synesthesic note, is the rectangular bottle in the picture the current one? Mine are the round ones which I believed to be vintage, could it be the other way around?

this opens with rose, sandalwood, iris and ylang ylang. it reminds me of samsara with a heavy dose of a pink rose. the sandalwood and ylang ylang create a creamy background for the rose. iris adds a sheer backdrop as well. i think the vanilla and amber are background notes. overall a really nice floral-sandalwood.

Clasic perfume, rich and elegant, but too powdery. It has a soapy twist on my skin and it reminds me a lot of Caleche and White Linen. It's not very modern, but it's beautiful, it reminds me the perfumerie of the past. I like to smell it but I don't know if I want to smell like this.

An atmosphere of chypre-laden floral shimmer wafting up into my olfactory orbit in a translucent, glamorous veil. An hour later it reminds me of a smoothed-out Nahema, but until then the floral vibe is ylang-ylang and Iris dominant with a sandalwood foundation. Classic perfumery.

It is powdery rosy smell with cedar, ylang-ylang and spices. I love chypres and this is good, not charp but smooth, with wonderful sillage. A classic, sophisticated scent, elegant and uplifting the same time.
