1905 Madame Butterfly Puccini

To begin with, I have to say this is my first fragrance review. I hope I can describe a “fragrance” since I believe each component or essence in a perfume evoke different senses and recall different things in mind. Also each fragrance has its own distinctive personality which develops a unique scent on each wearer. Below is what you will find when you enter the Histoires de Parfums website: “Opera and perfume exalt women... The title roles of five great operas inspired Histoires de Parfum's five sublime fragrances, portraits of five divas. Drawn from 1930s collections, the Art Deco perfume bottles come alive as they nestle in the heart of a music box playing the opera's aria. From composition to final performance, this collection plays to all of the senses Some scents like some melodies still lead in the air, intangible and yet unforgettable. Music and perfume operate with the same dazzling dynamic, they travel their notes in an ephemeral and intangible space. Created in the tradition of the greatest classics of perfumery, reinterpreting the large olfactory families, fragrances are contained in exceptional bottles made by a master glassmaker, locked in a music box, all accompanied by an illustrated booklet.” So the perfume “1904”, i.e. the Madame Butterfly is described as both a floral and a powdery (musky and creamy) fragrance which is also a true description for me. Here is the notes: Top Note : Italian Mandarin essence, Néroli Heart Note : Absolu Orris of Florence, Heliotrope Base Note : Cedar essence, Sandal, Musk "With complete elegance, this powdery floral scent embraces Madame Butterfly’s delicate femininity. Iris with its complex design radiates through its communion with Mandarin and Neroli, while Cedar and Musk impart a sensuality attributed to the Levant.” The reason why I want to write a review about this fragrance is not only because I adopt this as my signature fragrance but there aren’t many reviews on Fragrantica. First time I smelled it, I was in “La Basilica Galería”, Barcelona which is a jewelry store with artful displays set among crystal and also a perfume shop – to me, like an embodiment of Fragrantica (mostly niche)! Having smelled, I said, “Yes! I finally found my signature fragrance!”. To me, finding a signature fragrance is such a hard thing which can become a life-long searching. This fragrance inspired by Puccini's Madame Butterfly Opera is a complete example of elegance. It has a unique powdery and flowery structure which is blended in a gourmate way and feels to my nose really creamy. Due to its iris note, it smells like a luxurious make-up product – which would be amazing for anyone who is a make-up junkie like me :) To mention its performance and projection, I’d like to say that the sillage is literally poor on me as I have very very dry skin (has better performance on my skin when moisturized with unscented cream or vaseline) and my skin eats up the fragrance and doesn’t let it to dance freely but only allows people who come closer to you. I guess that’s why my boyfriend loves it :) However, the longevity is approximately 12 - 15 hours on clean skin and clothes, of course. As long as it develops, its perfect buttery/creamy orris base gets more idyllic yet seductive. Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 9/10 Scent: 10/10 Bottle/Design: 10/10 Unique: 10/10

Un bellissimo classico iris polveroso, delicato e non invasivo. Appena rinfrescato da qualche goccia di mandarino e sorretto da sandalo e muschi. Iris etereo, lieve, sottile, di un'eleganza composta. La proiezione è moderata, non supera il metro. Il fiore diventa sempre più diafano e trasparente, diventando discretissimo e sommesso skinscent. Non avrebbe mai raggiunto il lontanissimo ten. Pinkerton, lo ha sedotto solo alla breve distanza. Comunque un fiorito incantevole, purtroppo brevemente fruibile... Confermo la correzione della data, 1904 e non 1905, poichè la prima rappresentazione dell'opera avvenne nel 1904, al Teatro alla Scala, Milano.
