Outrecuidant

Spicy opening for the first 2 to 3 minutes then, smooth cardamom and saffron for the next hour. Outrecuidant is strong, so no need to overspray. For the evening, no more than 3 sprays are needed. It hovers with good arm's length projection for a solid 2 to 3 hours. If you are moving around then expect the oud to rise up faster in the scent pyramid than if you are sitting at a desk. What's most intriguing about this fragrance is that it's moody. It gives you very different and distinct scent profiles as the hours pass and, if you are active you will get an even wider range of notes that come up and through to meet you. Linear this is not! This is not a fragrance that the Sauvage crew will like or wear with any regularity. It's challenging and more to the point, it's extremely sophisticated. This is something that shines in a tuxedo or formal attire- thanks to a glimmering labdanum at the base that is joined by a warm, woody finishing note. Uncharacteristically, it also doubles as a rakish, idgaf, black bomber jacket with black jeans and Doc Marten's final accessory after the fact. How? Recall when I stated that this fragrance is moody? This aspect is most on display if you are dressed for a late night rendezvous- that's what that dirty patchouli is there for afterall. The closer someone gets the less rose/oud/saffron they get and the more dirty patchouli meets glimmering labdanum they get. So if you are openly in search of wild nights and cigarettes after s3x, you've hit the jackpot. Whomever you wake up beside in the morning will be wearing the smell of you long after they've showered- but that's if they even want to in the first place! bon chance

I have a decent amount of this juice, I can smell delicious fresh saffronic pineapple, wood and leather with kind of animalic touch like Oud fruity floral mix in it ” very nice specifically the dry down”, I detect these notes more in smokiness feel yet I can’t consider it a smoky scent , it’s almost dark yet with fresh feel,very nice scent I actually enjoy smelling this one, blended very well, I can see it will be a more nice “sillage” scent in imo, I may testing it more, the bottom line is, its an oriental fruity leathery leaning more masculine, “it has that classic touch” with western twist, may this one the smell of “ Le outrecuidant or the bumptious as translated ” I don’t know, but a very good oriental classy with luxurious masculine feel and fancy imo. Note: I can’t blame Fragrantica about the pyramid notes mixup since HDP did already, I have two 15ml from this line Prolix & Outrecuidant, both when you open the box you find a card, in Prolix card the three perfumes notes pyramid are right and in Outrecuidant card it’s the opposite between Prol. & Outre.... Irrevernt escaped!, printing mistakes may lead to miss lead, praise be to Almighty, it’s not a test results or similar!

I HAVE IT! IT JUST ARRIVED AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! I smelled this at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York late October and have been thinking of it ever since. It came just before Valentine's Day which is the perfect day to wear this with the beautiful masculine Rose heart of the fragrance. It has much in common with my other two masculine Rose/Patchouli favorites: Patchouli Noir also by Histoires de Parfums and As Sawira by Penhaligon's. I see many reviewers use the word mysterious, and that is exactly the vibe I get too. A very classy, mysterious, confident fragrance. All the notes are well-balanced and blended beautifully. I love it!

As others have pointed out, the actual note list is as follows: Top - Grapefruit, Cassis, Pineapple. Mid - Saffron, Cardamom, Orange Blossom. Base - Cedar, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Leather, Labdanum-Ciste. The opening to me is mainly grapefruit and pineapple, with only a hint of the ammoniac cassis for what I would assume to be blending purposes. This brighter (but not overly sweet) fruity overtone blends well with the darker feel of the oud and patchouli, as well as the smokier labdanum and cardamom. It also becomes dustier as one wears it around thanks to the saffron. 7/10

Wearable, mysterious, soapy and subtle. Feeling of privacy and ancient luxury. A little historical. Like a walk down stone streets with spice merchants and temples. Not a big fragrance, but a slow burn. I think it is a good transitional fragrance from winter to spring since it feels lighter and cleaner than its fellow irreverent, which is more resinous, smoky and is great when draped in wool. I can wear a jacket in outrecuidant. My jacket is brocade and goes well with black denim and a t-shirt. Passers-by might notice soap, but my shroud is lush spices and dusty roads.

Someone fix the notes, it's embarrassing. These are the notes of Prolixe. Prolixe has Outrecuidant's notes. P.S. There is actually Oud in this one, it is stated in the ad copy, but not in the notes. And I can perceive it as well.

This is a great scent. Light sweetness, with some dark depth and spice. It doesn’t really remind me of anything in particular. I wish I could be more insightful on this one, but I’m stumped. It is superb.

A great discovery! As the name suggest, this scent is an olfactory delight that does not fear presumptuousness. A niche oudy version of La nuit de l'homme by YSL and definitely in my future buy list.

A powerful opening of fresh and sweet fruits, becoming spiced and dark some minutes later. The HdP smell is discernable from the start. Woods appear gradually - these are deep, powerful, but not at the front. The fruits hand over to florals - deep, dusty and slightly liqueur-ish. This is when the impression of leather begins to form. There are animalistic (more than simply labdanum) and gasoline notes I detect in the dry down, not listed in the official pyramid. By no means unpleasant, but I would say it does make this scent more masculine than not. During the last phase, a civet note becomes prominent after an hour or so. Overall, the leather accord is well done. This is a dark, dry leather, and not as sweet as other HdP leathers. This scent is sensual, almost spiritual, and powerful when it meets the nose during the early phases. Later in the dry down, as the perfume becomes a skin scent, it transforms into something arrogant and aggressive. Performance is average for an EdP, and does not project as long as other HdP scents. I reapplied my sample after 3 hours, as it begins to sit close to the skin. I would say this is a cold weather scent for a confident and powerful man. Definitely not a blind buy, but a must try for curious hobbyists. A great take on leather - if you don't want tobacco or tonka in your leather, check this scent out.

A stunning crowd stopper of a perfume, this one which means arrogant, overconfident, or prideful person is all that and more. It has a bravado very rarely seen in modern perfumery, but remains so utterly wearable. The perfume opens in a spicy smoky cloud of ginger, nutmeg, cardamom and tobacco. As it begins to settle, a heart of olibanum and rose emerges. Finally upon complete settling, a powdery woody base of patchouli and oud remains with the tobacco and spice hovering in the background. Harkens back to the good old vintage days of heavily perfumed suited men smoking their cigars. The fragrance is beautifully blended, and has a very "formal" wearability (it quietens a lot upon settling) even though it has strong sillage, projection and lasts forever. If you like Black Afgano, you are going to fall in love with this dreamy and heady concoction of a fragrance. Be prepared to stop trains though. Enjoy!

The notes on the USA and Europe website are completely different! Fragrantica has notes from the USA website, Parfumo has European, and basenotes has USA. As for the scent, it's pretty good. I feel like I'm getting the notes more inline with what is listed on the European website, not the USA website. This is a rose oud type scent with pineapple, grapefruit, and cassis which is a nice change of pace. Dior Oud Ispahan? Maybe a little but more interesting imo. Not blind buy safe as it can get animalic 7/10 Performance 7/10

Wow! This is veeeery animalic and sour for my nose :)) It does smell bad, but it’s quite soupy and skanky for me too wear (yeah, I know that there are quite the opposite things)), but I can see how some people might enjoy it 😅 It has a very peculiar base as well that smells like coal, leather and an old apothecary. The opening is mostly a sweet & smoky, with labdanum and cardamom. When the opening fades, this leans more unisex for me. The oud is present with a light touch, thankfully it never goes medicinal. Good longevity and workable projection, it won't clear a room but its detectable within a few feet. I bought HDP samples for all three of the new releases. Working my way through them, this is the first I've worn. I like it.

Masculine, smoky animalic pineapple.

Completely blind test, the opening gave me some animalistic funkiness mixed with some floral elements and dark fruit, almost a purple grape juice if it wasn't for the swaying power of the other notes keeping it from turning too cloying and superficial. Let's call it grape juice semi-adjacent. As it dries down I get a bit more incense feeling but the funkiness is most prominent, maybe it's animalistic or just myrrh and oud, no idea. That's the beauty of testing blind. It does feel mature and feminine, you're over 40, have dark eyes, and are known for your strong sensuality. It has something to say, or project, and whatever it is, it's likely late at night, it's moody, and dessert (however you want to interpret that) is on its way. Looking at the notes the leather is not typical, and I don't recognize it as leather, except maybe a luxury soft purse leather somebody used at the spice shop. What i like here is the perfumery, the individual notes are not the fragrance. I would not try to judge this off the notes. Throw a sample into a bag of other misc things and I don't think you'd guess pineapple leather, masculine, etc.. The leather with the saffron, cardamom, etc. brings together a funkiness that is interesting, however, when the sweetness fades (and it does) the leftover is all mellow funkiness, and sides to unpleasant, and no fun. It's a sliding scale, like to dislike.

Kinda chaotic. A very tart, spicy leather. @Pizza_Slut's review made me laugh, there is something a little creepy about this fragrance. I don't find it repulsive, though I don't find it particularly interesting. Leans masculine.

Tested in solid heat. Down below all that is leather, rough and interesting, as Histoires de Parfums knows how to do, but the problem is the body. If the head was supposed to be Pineapple Grapefruit and Blackcurrant...then it all blended into a kind of fresh citrus bubble similar to an air freshener...vintage leather and powder in such a combination that you think of a comtesse from a historical film, alabaster white skin, a wide dress that looks like a cake, the French Civil War is raging outside the window...but you forget about it when she walks past you because this comtesse smells absolutely hellish...urinal directly to your face...not nice not funky animalic but directly do wash yourself lady!

My least favorite of the black line(En aparté), the main notes according to the votes are totally wrong. It opens on a very sour cassis then a big contrast appears between the pineapple head note and the smoky-leathery rose oud base. All in all it gives a chaotique impression of unfinished composition without a specific highlighted note , a sour fruity oud-leather who brings nothing new or barely memorable to this genre. Dislike

Goodness me, HDP - please stop it with the cardamom & leather already don't you have any other notes to play with? That's 2/3 of a fragrance line with these heavy notes; why no pure amber allowing the Oriental light incense of Frankincense to shine? Very odd decision by HDP and I'm not a fan. My rating: 4/10.
