Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse

The name of this fragrance is misleading, I’m not saying that I don’t get Tuberose, it’s just that I don’t think I’ve ever been exposed to such massive amounts of Iris/Orris. Last year I ordered some PURE, UNADULTERATED, FRESH and very expensive Orris Butter because I’ve been obsessed with the note of Iris/Orris since I smelled the original Dior Homme years ago and I really wanted to get to the bottom of this whole Iris obsession “I don’t know why there’s a distinction between Orris and Iris when the Iris flower doesn’t even have a smell” Well in its pure state of butter, it looks waxy as if it were white lipstick, its soft, starchy, rooty, vegetal and yes very cosmetic. I realized that one of the only fragrances that actually used real Orris butter “that I know of” was Masque Milano’s “Latessa” and the only other one that I was convinced of was this beauty, Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse. I thought MM Latessa was gonna be my holy grail Orris fragrance but the loads of iso e super/ ambroxin was way too much for my nose to handle and sadly, I can’t spray it on my skin although on clothes it’s okay, but this fragrance..... to my nose, it steals the show with flying colors! Yes! I have found my holy grail Iris!!! I totally adore every stage, from first blast of Iris, to the mid, tame but very supportive Tuberose, to the soft cocoa-musk dry down. Nothing but love here. You must love everything about Iris/Orris to like this fragrance. This was the best blind buy ever and I’m ordering a backup bottle before it totally disappears. Cheers fragrant family.

Beautiful and unique! The more I wear it the more I get the tuberose, but everyone is right about the massive amounts of iris and the tuberose does indeed come and go as it damn well please. It is the tuberose that gives life to the scent so I still think it deserves it's name. At one point the leather and orris seem to blend together and I don't know where one starts or the other ends, and the orris seem to last forever. I find the dryness of this challenging at times, so I have to be in the mood for it. The opening is glorious though, it makes me happy to apply this. The retirement comments made me laugh when I first tried it, because I get it. Still, it does come across as a modern perfume as well. And I would actually like my home to smell like this, it fits perfectly with my old leather couch, my dark walls, heavy velvet curtains and antique wood furniture filled with books. And yes, I've sprayed my room with it too. Call me crazy, but I am not the slightest bit scared that my guest will ascosiate the scent with old folks and a stale enviroment. Now, a shower and massive dose of Tubereuse 1 😁

Oh this is really nice. It opens up that tuberose-peach sweet with some of that makeup-y powdery note and a sliiiiight animal, cozy and warm leathery feeling - but way way less than the one in Tubereuse 3. That dry iris/powder bring a superb contrast to the sweet peach-y tuberose turning it back from the gourmand/sticky sweet, and the tiny touch animalic suede makes it lean more and more unisex. And it is a unisex, despite being floral, powdery, and peachy/tuberose floral sweet. It has that real nice mix of leather jacket, florals, fruity sweetness blended together. While it's not office safe, I think it suits anyone, anytime but summer. It's not a blind buy as, well - makeup powder, floral peachy tuberose, suede. Some might say this is an old lady/pot pourri/old house kind of a smell, but if you enjoy all the notes you need to at least try. Not the best performance, about 6-7 hours and it projects strong for an hour, than goes more moderate, but leaves a nice sillage.

It’s rather strange, but Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse is soft iris/leather scent. My hypothesis about the meaning of the name is, that maybe the Lady Tuberose was so capricious that she did not present... I don’t smell any hint of this wonderful note... (By the same ground for example Une Rose FM could be called Une Geranium - yes, the note is there, but well hidden). Besides the name, Tubereuse 1 reminds me L’AP Skin on Skin - the same leather+iris+saffron combination, however these two fumes are different...Personally I prefer Skin on Skin for its exquisite juiciness reached I guess by using rose, musk and whiskey. The Tubereuse 1 is drier and more herbal. The cacao is bitter and dusty. It’s a pleasant scent and goes to my “like” shelf (not to the “love” unfortunately).

I sometimes forget how much I love suede in perfumes, bet "Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse" has reminded me of that with no doubt. Do not search for tuberose bomb here, it is all about smooth suede, the opening is sensually sweet with a tropical and sweet tuberose playing the lead role together with a one of the best suede i've tried and iris is giving a masterful powderyness and elegance in the background. I also get cacao making the opening/heart almost gourmand for me. Dry down is perfect, extremely feminine suede with hints of powdery flowers. Very feminine, very lovable and a must for a full bottle. Hell, this is so good that I would buy this even for a double price tag.

Wow, this is a magnificent fragrance of great relevance and elegance. The strong note of suede (very beautiful) is softened by a splendid tuberose which at the same time is "illuminated" by the bergamot and ylang that give off "heat" and make the perfume dusty and bright, a night shine, elegant and mysterious is also a "dark" and captivating.... This is a unique perfume, certainly not for everyone. to try! I love it. Sillage: 7.5/10 Longevity: 8.5/10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10

Oh wow, what an interesting fragrance! Very very dry, dusty suede and powdery iris. There's more to it though, something obscure, or perhaps it's just the result of the tuberose and suede combination. The opening is a powerful blast of suede and a chemical/medicinal, almost mothball-like smell, but oddly enough I quite like it. The intense moth-balls and suede soon fade into a powdery iris, coming through large and incharge.

This is such a gorgeous leather-iris scent...I m totally smitten.. not too much tuberose which is good for me! I m already a big fan of Histoires de Parfums.. this one is my favorite of the line along with 1725, stunning long lasting suede iris!

Tubereuse Capricieuse opens with lots of dry suede leather notes, quite a lot of saffron and a bit of bergamot to freshen it all up. Soon tuberose joins the party, it is sweet like candy but never gets sultry due to the dryness of the leather notes. The tuberose gets stronger and pushes the leather to the background, but never gets really loud. The drydown is sweeter than the middle part of the scent, but the leather notes are still there. It stays quite close to the skin. Sillage is soft to moderate, longevity is moderate on my skin. Interesting leather, but bone dry, leading to a strange contrast with the tuberose that has a candy-like feel to it. I don't get any distinct cocoa, ylang or iris, these are all supportive notes. I don't get a distinct rubber note, but I do smell something industrial in there. After testing this one once, I'm not quite sure what to think of this scent, for now I like it enough to keep me busy with using the tester vial more often.

As in Tubereuse 3, this also has notes of tuberose in the top notes, middle and bottom of the perfume. At the opening, the scent of tuberose is the first thing you feel in a few minutes she interacts with the saffron, so getting a nuance earthy and dry, dusty, tuberose is still present, but the tone is more dry and dusty course. My skin appears or bergamot. after about 45 minutes, tuberose is most evident again in a most delicate white floral, slightly more feminine, and accompanied by a sweet light, after more than about 15 minutes start to get a vibe metallized, but still floral. Soon he begins to evolve again, appearing in perfume notes appearing on suede half shy, and cocoa, makes the vibe dusty gain strength again, but this time tuberose and suede is staying in the foreground. In general a good perfume, more versatile than Tubereuse 3 Animale in my opinion, very good projection and fixing too. But what pleased me most Tubereuse 3.

This is such a beautiful iris, wonderful. The king of irises! This iris twinkles with all its possible variations. Sometimes bitter, sometimes dusty, sometimes suede, sometimes carroty, sometimes wet. But overall - quite thick, rich and bright, rather rough and dark. There is very little tuberose in the background, very far away. Compared to Moulin Rouge, they could be from the same series of "Retro Irises". But Moulin Rouge is very feminine, boudoir, dusty, powdery-lipsticky iris, it is like a cocoon. Tubereuse-1 is unisex, much sharper, more bitter, rougher iris and it has nothing to do with boudoirs or cosmetic bags.

Aggressive leather opening quickly turns into most pleasant suede-iris-tuberose combo I could ever imagine - thick leather petals tuberose, oh my! As every other HdP creation, this one is also very evocative; the smell of a high-end cosmetics and leather goods, but not classic, rather contemporary-smelling and effortless. Drydown appears rather quickly (low to medium lasting power I'm afraid) in a candy-like form (similar to Cacharel Eden) which is sorounding this already very pleasant leathery feeling. Very, very nice.

The tuberose here is buried under a huge amount of musky lipsticky suede. Certainly, it's a different take on tuberose, which feels more like an old-school floral leather fragrance than a straight-up white flower bomb (which is very common with tuberose fragrances). Imagine adding a dollop of white flowers to Bottega Veneta Pour Femme, and you will get what I mean. It's not a loud fragrance, but I get wafts throughout the day. Beautiful!

Well, I like it but it didn't last all that long on me. By the time I got to the middle and dry down, which is the pretty part, it was already fading away. It does start out very dusty with iris and suede?, then some tuberose comes in, but I never really smell the other notes that I was hoping to get. A soft scent with minimal longevity and projection.

I got this in a sample pack and it was a pleasant surprise to find out it was a powdery suede-iris scent rather than a white floral (a genre I occasionally love, often hate). Unlike some of the "old lady" comments, I actually find this pretty sweet and girly. Definitely one I'd like to test some more...

Woah - I'm an old librarian smelling cat pee! But the weard part is that I kind of like it. It's not everyday pink and flowery perfume and that's what I have came to relish after the years. I like to be suprised and that perfume suprised me. Thank you for shaking my grounds Histoires de Parfums!

Iris burst. It's like a makeup powder, like a cosmetic powder, a lipstick. The huge doses of iris are quite conquering the scene then it settles into a soft suede with smal dose of iris, then comes the fresh cut tuberose and hints of cacao powder. It's cute tho with that floral burst.

Smooth suede and spicy iris dominate this scent for me, with tuberose and cocoa adding a nuance that bridges the aforementioned top players. these notes make it a bit too lipstick-y and talcum powdery to be truly unisex for me, definitely leans a bit feminine. 7.5/10

As everyone else has stated, this is an iris leather perfume above all else. I honestly dont detect any tuberose and its probably because its adding to the other notes instead of playing a main role. Calling this capricieuse is very fitting however. This smells like a genuine cosmetics product and there are many lipstick leather perfumes out there, but this one comes closest to it. It emits a seductive, dark feminine and almost femme fatale vibe. Its just not wild or heavy enough for it to be considered femme fatale. Another comparison i could draw is diptyque’s iris candle. Instead of being a textural ingredient, it offers a genuine iris note that lasts throughout its whole longevity (which is 8+ hours). Its not a typical alpha isomethyl ionone iris, which i find to smell more like violets. No, its a real vegetal and buttery orris. Now i havent smelled any real orris that has been cured, but i have smelled the roots of the irises i have divided in the past... and it smells extremely similar. I think the cocoa isn’t necessarily chocolate like or hot cocoa like. Its here to add a textural warmth and coziness. If you love the smell of (vintage) makeup and leather, then this is definitely the perfume for you. It doesnt offer you more than that however, and to some that might be disappointing. I like it a lot however and i may love it even more once i get to know it more. 8/10 for now Edit: yeah i love this a lot. Ramped up to 9/10 because its so good and unique. Like i said, lipstick leather perfumes are rather common but this is so much more refined and cozy and beautiful. The cocoa does show up more as it dries down, which made me realize i may need to look more into cocoa perfumes. Its so good and so warm without being neither heavy nor fresh. Its ambient. I layered this with cheirosa 59 and it starts reminding me a lot of byredo’s animalique. And i dont often enjoy layering because most of the time i just smell 2 perfumes at the same time or 1 perfume overpowering the other. Meanwhile this seems to be a perfect base for a lot of brighter perfumes, since its strong and dark but never overwhelming . This also lasted a whole week on my clothes lol

Opens with iris/orris, tons of iris/orris. I finally got to smell this note in isolation. I'm neutral about it. I've definitely smelled it before. This perfume smells like freshly powdered white shirts at the opening. After a few minutes, in steps a fruity ylang. I have no idea if the bergamot already arrived and I just missed it or what, but it's gone now. This smells very vintage to me. It reminds me of old lace dresses, satin, lipstick and powder. Not a scent that thrills me. I agree with whoever said it smells like "pissed on leather". It really smells like a budget retirement home. EDIT: After a year and my tastes changing, I don't find this fragrance as disagreeable as it once was. That said, I'm still not enjoy it. It is interesting and worth sampling if you enjoy vintage lipstick scents. -

Hmmmm, This one is all about Iris, Suede, powder & Cacao on my skin and I like it. Its not sweet, not flowery, not girly - at all. On my skin its unisex with a soft, creamy Iris-Suede-Cacao-powder-mix in a really good way. I think this one is a good one to layer with a sweet or a flowery scent. I guess the Suede turns into the powdery note. Really nice.

Really funky perfume. For the first half hour, all kinds of things came to mind--the cherry cough medicine I hated as a child, thick layers of dust on top of a book in an ancient monastery, plastic dolls from the 60's, crayons in their box, used suede shoes, and a wet dog. Not what I would call pleasant. Except for maybe the plastic dolls. For some inexplicable reason I like that smell a little bit. During the heart phase, while all of the above notes faded, I smelled what I can only describe as rodent urine mixed with cherry syrup. I surmise it's tuberose. Not as bad as it sounds, surprisingly. The base is the most tolerable. Musky suede, a little sweet, still with that whisper of cherry syrup. This perfume was so animalic that I seriously wonder what Tubereuse Animale smells like? I'm not sure I want to find out. Interesting perfume, to say the least. A little too interesting....

Tubereuse 1 to me is the ultimate waxy lipstick scent. It's not a fresh, Chanel lipstick, however, but rather your grandaunt's fancy lipstick that she bought for special occasions 30 years ago and wears once a year. This lipstick hasn't aged well, is what I am trying to say. The retirement comment made by cocofluff in a review below also hit home for me; this actually does smell like my grandparents' retirement home, the stuffy heat of unventilated rooms covering up bodily odors. In other words, I'm not a fan. And yet while I don't necessarily enjoy smelling (like) this, I think this is a really interesting scent, one well worth spending a little time on. There is a lot to unpack here and it is a scent that evokes a lot of thoughts and strong emotions as the other reviews suggest. This makes it worth sampling, in my opinion.

Oh, so suede is what that horrible opening was supposed to smell like. Honestly I don't get this stuff at all. The first hour was this acrid, greenish stuff which gave way to a kind of minty Fracas that lasted about half an hour and then faded away entirely. Four hours after applying, I get only the faintest whiff of Fracas if I put my nose to it. Not a fan.

This was a scrubber for me. I smelled plastic children's toys, artificial grape-flavoured medicine, and hospitals. I couldn't detect bergamot or ylang ylang, which I would usually like. I don't know why, but this perfume just smelled dreadful to me.

I have all 3 of these and this one is my least favorite. It smells like pissed on leather. The other two are way better! They are sweet and floral, unlike this one. :(

Not pleasant for me. Strong leather. Like I am in shoe factory - painted leather smell everywhere. Very synthetic, industrial.

Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse This is extremely dense Iris-suede powdery. It reminds me of 2 Violacerum / Bruma by Maison Trudon. I can absolute link this 1889 Moulin Rouge as I own both. they share the same dense powder accord. Almost like Clay-paste. but minimal Tuberose is enough to make though the dense cloud of powder. Moulin-rogue, using the same Iris-powdery base manage to bring the esthetic of Can-Can ambient better than Tubereuse 1. The Indolic aspect provide enough sophistication for the suede effect is very cleaver manipulation for the fragrance , all in all it is truly ok. As frist impression, I give this 8.5/10 Review on February 27, 2025 I found out that Tubereuse 1 is actually Jasmin-Leather scent. Nothing really new, it is aged old perfumery style. I am not sure, but I can’t find that Rubbery quality Where it shares across the Tuberose I own. Instead it is Bubblegum toberose accord, Salicylate Tuberose. Old - way Tuberose that didn't see much now. There is certain dewness that reminds me of Jasmin Sambac material. I think Tuberose design to fool the nose. Thinking of Tuberose. But It was carnal from Ylang and leather accord instead. The leather in this. It is new way leather. Saffron and Woody Amber kind of Leather. Wildly use in current perfumery. Where I actually pride would be Iris accord The feel waxy and very powdery. Clay-paste texture That it seems blends so well in to amber texture. The far dry down, the woody slightly get stronger. And it is now reminds me of Dior Homme Intense dry down somehow. Still tasty... Either Iris Leather or Jasmine Leather is nothing new. Really from high brand, Indy to vintage. It is one of those combination that cannot go wrong. But Tubereuse one go beyond even further try to merge these accord together. That why Tubereuse 1 is one that be talking about. This might leans slight vintage but it build solely on new material. There is certain fruity nuance but I will wear a few times before do final consideration. Edit Feb 28, 2025 - I will keep this for now. I notice this have soft Chypre underlying quality. Somehow, due to it spiciness that linger from Safforn. I think of Bertrand Duchaufour's work.

Today I am having a completely different experience from the last time when I reviewed this perfume. In fact, I now question the identity of the perfume in my previous sample vial! The Tubéreuse 1 (Capricieuse) on my skin right now came straight from the source: Histoires de Parfum, and it opens all powdery and slightly sweet and not at all green! As the scent dries down, I do begin to notice the "balloon" aspect highlighted by other reviewers. Nonetheless, this is my favorite from the trio, and I am happy that I got my nose on an authentic sample, since if I decide to purchase one of these three perfumes (and I might...), Capricieuse will be it. The style is similar to Le Labo Poudre d'Orient (from the limited edition Anthropologie series), except that instead of violet here we have lots of tuberose. This is a really well-composed perfume with lots of natural essences and a welcome return to niceness chez Histoires de Parfums after what I found to be the disastrous Veni, Vidi, Vici trio.

From the first whiff, this is an interesting and unique scent. It starts out extremely dry, with an acrid, slightly metallic, dusty note combined with a fleeting glimpse of a non-sweet strawberry and something indolic, almost civet-like. After a short time the iris comes through along with the saffron and suede, an overlapping, perfectly harmonized trio of notes. The tuberose is there, too, making for a beautifully balanced composition that I would call more crisp and dry than powdery, at least until late in the drydown when it does take on a slightly powdery vanilla musk feel. The sillage is moderate, and the scent lasts for at least 24 hours on both skin and clothing. I really like the fact that the floral notes are there, but not at all sweet. This is indeed a gorgeous, if offbeat scent.

Histoires de parfums TUBEREUSE 1 seems to me like a greenish tuberose perfume. A strong, declarative, green tuberose very different from the lofty sweet voluptuous whiteness of FRACAS. TUBEREUSE 1 reminds me a bit of Annick Goutal PASSION (the herbal tuberose) but here rather than a tomato-leaf herbal quality, what I find is more like the stems and leaves and roots of the tuberose, similar to TEA ROSE except using tuberose instead of rose. This composition seems a bit sharp to me, and I think that I prefer tuberose creamy rather than green. On to #2... From the notes, I gather that my perception of greenishness is an olfactory illusion caused by...suede, saffron, cocoa, iris? Say what? --------------------------- update: I now believe that this review was based on a decanting error...

This is exactly what I hoped it would be- a smooth iris, suede with a buttery tuberose with no screechiness. I have TF tuberose nue and I think this is better because the tuberose is softer. It is really an iris perfume. It reminds me of those legendary perfumed suede gloves of the past. It is not really a summer perfume, being quite melancholic and autumnal. I detect whisps of cacao, which adds a powdering a sweetness although it isn’t an overly sweet or gourmand perfume. It is unisex, and sillage is close. Probably wouldn’t wear to the office. - more for weekends and long afternoon walks. I get no urine, or old lady vibes (I detest these ageist comments).

Opens with a blast of medicinal bandaid and dusty iris with a rubber note. Interesting pungency that gives way to a very acrid green tuberose. There is very little warmth here in the beginning but as it transitions to the heart there is the softness of saffron and ylang ylang. I love this transition from something austere and a little screechy to something softer and yielding. The iris note is present throughout but with a changing backdrop. I don't really get any cacao unless the dryness and lack of sweetness I get is from the cacao which could also be part of the suede accord.

Balloon party. Dusty and rubbery tuberose with a hint of powdery iris. Someone here said it smells like a balloon, I absolutely agree with that opinion and that makes it somehow interesting, but not enough for me to buy it. You can tell that nose behind this fragrance avoided making tuberose scent as old-ladish and romantic and wanted to make something modern and urban, but in my opinion the final creation didn't bring anything special and new, just the avoidance of usual, known tuberose scent and that is not enough to be good. Take it with 2 aspirins. 1/5

I have to say, this fragrance does have its charm, it's an odd one, but it has its charm. While it's drying down I do feel like it becomes momentarily pretty. The experience is like if you're looking out at a concrete factory, and walking towards it you can smell all the fumes, then as you head to the entrance you catch a whiff of the tuberoses and someone hands you a candy bar. But then you quickly eat the candy bar and pass the flowers and all that's left is the memories. And more fumes.

This is completely unforgettable, as never in my life have I ever smelled something in liquid form that smelled exactly like a balloon. I could even smell the rubber and the powdery stuff they put in bags of balloons to prevent them from sticking together. If you want to smell like a balloon, get this perfume. It's definitely different and fun to try.

This is powdery leather fragrance, it smells like suede to be exact. Anyone who is looking for a bright tuberose fragrance, will not like this. There is a tiny hint of a white floral in this scent, but I smell more iris then tuberose. I love leather fragrance, can't tolerate white floral and this is perfect for me. I like it very much!

This is a strong white floral with dusty, herbal notes underneath that somehow really do combine to smell like fresh, lush tuberose and sueded leather.The suede note never takes over, staying well in the background to the flower. A very interesting scent and well done.

This smells like a used bookshop in Salem, Massachusetts. They captured that musty, moldy smell of books that have been in damp basements for years, not sure how they did it but they sure did! I appreciate this scent but I would personally not want to smell like it.

Remind me of L'attesa by Masque Milano but I like L'attesa much better. Starts very soft powdery, old lipstick or expensive talcum powder which I love but develops into a musky more masculine or unisex fragrance and not really a very good one.

The leather note is excellent but it overrides the tuberose and is too strong for the rest of the composition. I was surprised as all the others from this line have been so well blended, but the suede is just too much for the florals in this.

Rooty, woody iris with sweet candy tuberose perfume over the top. Odd mix, and doesn't really gibe. There is no real harmony between the notes. There are definitely better tuberoses out there.

Almondy, salty tuberouse, with burned rubber. Beautiful saffron that makes out with ylang ylang. Reminds me of tropical nights with suntanning-lotion. Will try it this weekend on the beach :)

Rubber duck baby bath toy,,dolls head and hair,,mixed with iris powder abit of lipstickrose perfume but ylang and bergamot add attractiveness for longer sniffing...

Anyone can list the evolution of notes, they are listed above, I would like to say what this smells like. Chewbacca wearing his mothers expensive lipstick.

By tuberose, they meant iris. Reminds me of a church hymnal, sweet degrading paper and well-worn leather.
