Mexican Cactus

The name Mexican Cactus immediately conjures images of arid landscapes, spiny desert plants, and dry, sun-baked air. Rather than a rugged desert trek, it's more like stepping into a dreamy Mexican resort, where vibrant fruits and soft breezes create an intoxicating escape. While the milk and metallic notes promised in the pyramid didn’t register for me, they may play a quiet supporting role, subtly smoothing and cooling the composition. In the heart, a delicate floral veil of jasmine dances with green nuances and the unique, watery crispness of cactus. This blend is far from heady or overpowering; it’s airy and light, like catching a whiff of blooming flowers on a gentle breeze. #663 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a sample sprayette. After trying out a number of mediocre fragrances, when you encounter one that you immediately think, "Damn! I gotta get me some of this!" It's really exciting. I haven't gotten around to trying out Byredo Pulp or Malle Synthetic Jungle, so I can neither confirm nor deny the similarities. There are a number of scents with this sort of vibe I have really liked. JPG Le Beau Le Parfum (also a scent I love), Xeryus Rouge (unfortunately never became an EDP), Bvlgari Man Extreme (sadly discontinued), or even grandad juice Aramis (which I occasionally still wear but would never tell anyone if they asked). And I love this fragrance. I really got the cactus note right off. I haven't camped in the desert since my days in the Army, and shame on me for that, because it's a magical and spiritual place, especially from sundown to sunrise. This stuff took me back there like a time machine. I am ordering a bottle of History's Spanish Carnation and I am ordering a bottle of this and am putting the rest of their line on the list for trial. They apparently have something going on there. I think this is carpool, elevator and small area safe if you don't overdo it, and you can use this for business or pleasure. Excellent longevity (lasts all day), excellent sillage fades to "intimate" in about 6 hours. Slightly masculine leaning but a woman can certainly wear it.

This is definitely in the same space as Byredo Pulp. However, if Pulp is rotting fruit, this is more like super ripe just before it's about to start rotting. In fact, if Fragrantica listed 'The Elemental Fragrances', I believe their 'Casual Sex', which is a fig/plum fragrance, would be a closer match. This is a mostly aromatic ripe fruit, slightly tart and mashed. Like a Fig spread. Green notes are here in a light green way. Behind this is watery cactus, and at times it reminds me of cactus flowers where other times cactus fruit. I can detect powdery and milky notes at times however it's definitely more powdery than milky. The far drydown I get a nice slightly earthy Vetiver. The fruit/cactus combo lasts in this. Overall this is a very solid fragrance when it comes to performance, 8+ hours. It's very specific in what it does so for me it's not an everyday pick. But it has specificity, personality , and that's true Niche to me. It works for when I need it. I would definitely recommend this one.

The tragedy is that I dropped my sample of this fragrance on my closet floor, which means I'll need to order another sample to smell it on my skin. The comedy is that it smells AMAZING- so fruity, so green, so milky, but not overwhelming, even in a high dose. So good I'll be ordering a much bigger bottle.

This has so much potential, but it definitely needs better balance. Starts off with the "tropical fruits" accord which I find to be overly sweet. It would have been nice if it had a bit of freshness or lactonic warmth from the bergamot and milk notes listed, but I didn't pick up on either of those. I did, however, very quickly start to detect the metallic notes, which I love. They give the fragrance a dry, earthy smell that I associate with the desert, which was one of the things I was hoping for with this. Unfortunately, I don't really get any cactus, which was the entire reason I picked up the discovery set. And even more unfortunately, my sample vial only had 7 sprays in it, so there wasn't enough left to let it macerate and try again in the future.
