Hollister Wave For Him

This afternoon, as I was sniffing different perfumes at my local mall, this fragrance immediately caught my attention. Somehow the bottle of Hollister Wave reminded me of Nautica's Voyage. So I thought, yeah why not smell it. I sprayed once in my forearm, and BAM! I fell in love with the scent! As the other reviewers said, this scent will hit you with an blast of yuzu at the opening. But blended in a really smoooooth way. After 20-30 minutes, I sniffed this fragrance again. And I immediately thought "gosh! this fragrance somehow smells like Dylan Blue (the fragrance that I was dying to have!), only brighter". I'm sure it is because I've been sniffing Dylan Blue for sometime now and i can't afford it yet. It is pretty expensive here in my country. I was soooo disappointed that I have not found this frag earlier! I would've not bought Montblanc Legend Spirit (which is still a very nice fragrance)! Overall: Initial thoughts as I do not own the fragrance yet. But would be getting this gem SOON. Scent: A bomb of Yuzu in the opening. Citrusy, Aquatic and somewhat fresh on my skin. Really good for Spring and Summer. But on my country, It can be worn anytime of the year! And yes, It is generic but done in a really nice way. It is one of the typical "freshie" scents in the market so it is nothing ground breaking. I also believe, just like Dylan Blue, ladies would love this scent! I know this because my girlfriend gave a huge nod and said that Dylan Blue is a sexy beast of a fragrance. Projection: 1-2 hours of projection with an arms length. I only made 1 spray on my forearm. So think it is pretty good! Longevity: The scent is sitting on my skin for 5 hours now. It has became a skin scents. But sometimes I get a whiff of the scent as I move my hand around. I think this will keep going for an hour or two. Age Group: As I've said, for me this smells like Dylan Blue but on the brighter side. More like a younger Dylan Blue. So I can see this fragrance worn by Teenagers to Adults in their 30's Price: Bang for the buck! Highly recommended!

This is a very good frag! It's fresh, zesty, vibrant and coastal but not juvenile. It has just enough depth and complexity to make it a worthy frag without going too complex. It's an easy wearing EDT that's perfect for summer and all that entails. This fragrance is perfect for in-formal, everyday wear or for smart casual events, day or night. It's not what you'd call a seductive scent, but it's a scent that does draw compliments from both men and women. Top notes: Grapefruit, Yuzu, with very slight Bamboo Leaf Mid Notes: Lavender, Cypress and Neroli Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Driftwood, Sea Salt with an underlying Musk sweetness. With a moderate longevity, expect this one to last about 3-4 hours The sillage is also in the moderate range which means it's a subtle, pleasant , non-intrusive scent for those around you (that's not a suggestion to unload the whole bottle on yourself in one go, don't be that guy haha!) This is one I'll always make sure I have. Perfect for the Aussie Summer! I score this one 8/10. -Rhys

I am in love with this scent these days. Accidentally, I tried it in a perfume shop and I was hooked immediately. I was mesmerised by it. To me it's just works so great. Cannot really say it is a summer beach perfume, for me it's even more. I can see see wearing this spring and autumn as well and not necessarily on the seaside. I totally get the woody part moreover - and I don't know why - I even smell a very-very dry tobacco leaf as well. I cannot explain but it has this pleasant creamy tobacco feeling in the dry down. Truly gorgeous to me! On the negative side though the longevity and projection is super bad. After 1 hour I don't smell anything. I have to apply 4-5 times per day in order to smell it. Well, as it's being a cheapie I can do that so even if I run out of it I can pick up another bottle for 20 euro. Overall, It was a huge surprise for me and I definitely, 100% recommend it!!

A very subtle blue-aquatic. Not the most recent, but the most elegant. The elements are in perfect harmony. Not like Nautica Voyage, much, much better. Pure blue serenity. Airy and breezy. The best aquatic for me. Smell: 9/10 Strength: 7/10 Good stuff, Hollister! EDIT 2026: I’ve had mine for 4–5 years now; I only use it in the summer, and I still have nothing but praise for it. A smooth, velvety blue dream. No harsh dihydromircenol or ISO E Super, or whatever the hell that is... (Which is such a pain in the ass in some Lattafa fragrances!) I still love this blue stuff!

I find this fragrance to be really enjoyable.I'm finding I far prefer the blue frags without powder and ozonic properties. Although those are good too, I find blues without those properties are similar to a brown fragrance but lighter and less spicy which I enjoy much more. Oh and soapiness, another aspect of what seems like all blue fragrances, this one has none that I detect. I was starting to avoid blues and this blue has encouraged me to try more and not write them all off as soapy powdery blahsville. Recommended and blind buy safe.

I got it as a gift in Paris and even though didn't like it initially even without spraying, casual trying out at home proved to be exciting. then I wore it to office and the citrus effect that comes with fresh spicy mix totally rejuvenated me and kind of I started a liking. this reminds me of Issey Miyaki, Aqua di Gio, Cool water and Sauvage by CD. A safe perfume to wear to office without harsh notes and it has longevity for about 4-5 hours in humid conditions. I like this too.

The first spray is just a 10 out of 10 it smells so fresh and delightful, but the sad truth is that it only lasts a couple minutes from there the scent is more 5 out of 10, the drydown tho is not bad at all and brings my final score to a 7 out of 10, worth a try if you like fresh summer scents. I have to mention that it lasts about 5 hours tops on skin and projects very little tho.

Definitely summer perfume for me. Not a projection monster but if people around you gets too close, surely you will receive compliments. Smells really fresh and i totally love the dry down. Cheap and a definitely good blind buy. lasts 3 to 6 hrs easily. 7/10

Now this surprised me. Immediately the Fahrenheit DNA appears, but with a modern freshness. Useable all year, and performance is great for an affordable EdT. Very masculine. 100 ml for $30 is a steal.

Well well, a very nice clean and fresh frag for a summers day out. Thats pretty much the whole thing in a nut shell without going any deeper. However, we are gonna talk a little about it. It opens up with a bit of the normal synthetic soapy smell but in a super good way. It has a slighly zesty, soapy opening thats fresh and free and starts its dry down with more of a floral feel while the base notes start to peak through the a sweet woody scent. later into the dry down it still maintains its freshness and overall lasts about 5 to 6 hours for me and the scent stays on your cloths for even longer. If you can find this, it is a good cheap frag that i advise picking up and does well in the spring/ summer months. I feel that this is another one of those white T-shirt and shorts while walking on the beach or riding around town kinda scents. when i smell this i can imagine myself eating at a boardwalk pizza parlor on a mild summer day early afternoon. Sorry for not posting all the ingredients in this frag and their exact break down. i hadn't actually looked at it and i am going solely based off of what i have experienced with this fragrance and when i smell during it's lifespan. I have horrible grammar and jump back and forth a little during some of these reviews but i like to try to give expectations and go a little further in with the images and situations i see these really shining. overall ill give this a 6.5/10. If it was a little more original or utilized something i love such as sage it would be an easy 7/10.

Smells a lot like Adidas Pure Game, which I'm struggling to finish. Although this smells a bit refined and more complex. I was a bit worried since I thought the tube inside was cut short but I was mistaken coz once the juice fills the tube, you could barely see the tube inside the bottle. Cool effect and also a great bottle. This is a blind buy. Thankfully this is just about the same price as I got my Pure Game. $8 for a 3.4 oz. If you already have Pure Game, it would be redundant to get this. Update 1/17/2017: Okay, after a full wear, I can now notice the differences of Hollister Wave with Pure Game. They are still in the same category, citrus, fresh, spicy/woody. But at drydown they both go in different directions. Whereas, Pure Game stays mostly linear throughout, Wave becomes less citrusy and instead becomes greener. Maybe because of the bamboo leaf which makes a difference. I can definitely smell the tonka bean at drydown and some salt but not much. This certainly gives an impression of being in a beach on a sunny day(sea, sand, surf, starfishes) while Pure Game makes me think of, well, grapefruits. :-) It's starting to grow on me.

This frag is screaming "Summer", "beach" and "swimming pool"- the moment it jumps your neck and slaps your face a couple of times with its aquatic hands. This is for the really, really hot days when you are in dire need for refreshment. I've only had two testers of 2ml, and one is still full because, well- the german summer sucked. But when i went to the pool, this was my stuff. It seemed the water never dried on my skin. It took me some hours to recognize, but the water from the swimming pool wouldnt wash the scent away. often i laid calmly in the sun, and it came to as the wave it is named after. I am really into buying this Perfume, but sadly, summer's gone and the cold days are marching in, leaving me in want for some cuddly warmth. But next year, for sure. :)

Mmmm mmmm. Sooooo nice. Maybe I’m overly pleased with this because the last fragrance I wore, Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme, was such a disappointment, but either way, this is great. For the price that you pay for this I wouldn’t expect something so well blended and just all round excellent. It’s a lovely aquatic summery fresh scent, with just the tiniest touch of spice, just enough to make it stand out. It has a synthetic quality to it, it doesn’t smell especially natural or anything but it’s far from offensive to the nose the way a lot of other synthetic scents are. This is my first interaction with Hollister fragrances and I’m impressed. Long lasting, cheap (but not cheap smelling) and a aesthetically pleasing bottle. I really dig it.

IMO, Hollister Wave has a nice scent, though more floral than some other reviews had suggested. Based on this list, this fragrance has multiple floral notes. I'd describe it more as a "Citrus Floral" than as a "Woody Aromatic".

Hmmm. Not bad so far. This was blind buy at Marshall's today for $19.99. (I'm a sucker for almost anything with a beach/ocean/surf theme.) I have to say this is much better so far than what I expected. I expected it to be non-offensive (which it is), but given its release date, I assumed Wave would have a D&G Light Blue or Versace Au Fraiche vibe to it. Not at all the case. It does start with a typical blast of citrus, but the bamboo leaf jumps in and stays right up front. It dries down to a salty driftwood to some extent but there's a semi-sweetness and a little spice that gives it some identity. More complex than Hollister's SoCal or Jake, and certainly more interesting. I like it!

This is a very nice and fresh fragrance. No sharp citrus, it's very smooth and relaxing. In the same vein as Versace Pour Homme, but to be honest I think this one just smells better overall. It seems to project well, and longevity is amazing. I could smell it on my skin after 24 hours, even after taking a shower. That kind of longevity for a fresh fragrance is rare (any fragrance for that matter). It didn't have that generic musky drydown either. I could smell those nice topnotes all through the life of the fragrance, and that keeps it fresh throughout. A great find for me, and be sure to try it if you like fresh fragrances with a (perfect) hint of sweetness.

Picked this one up for the spring/ summer period and it's actually very nice. You can smell the driftwood and sea salt in it, definitely the most aquatic juice I've owned so far. One thing I love about the dry down is the engrained sea air smell you get, the one after you've spent all day at the beach or walking a coastal path. Performance is average as you would expect from a cheaper cologne although I'd imagine it would glow more in the warmer temps, I got 100ml for £30 so can't go wrong. This is my daily causal home wear fragrance, but would really shine when the sun is out. 7.2/10

Very nice scent. Starts with the bamboo, then a pleasant soapy dry down with citrusses and neroli. Pretty long lasting with a decent silage too with a good quality bottle and top. Perfect Summer fragrance and, as someone said below, you can't go wrong with this one. I like Wave a lot. To add....wait for the dry down after about 30 minutes - it's refreshing and I think I detect violet

Good scent, lasts 5-7 hours, the bamboo and citrus opening are pleasant and a bit sweet and the dry-down is a nice musk, not too soapy. Clean, office safe, young and leans more male. Pretty generic smell but it's decently cheap and has alright longevity and sillage...so I can't complain! People are always surprised when I say it's hollister..and I was surprised to enjoy it too!

Nothing groundbreaking about this frag. It starts with a blast of grapefruit and smells like most of the showergels today. BUT, it gets better! It transforms into a lovely fresh and durable fragrance. It has nothing to do with Versace Pour Homme (which by the way is one of my favourites). It's a safe choice for the summer and i hope the girls will like it....

Blind pick and perfect for teenagers. Blue scent but still interesting. I throw it on to the grocery store or just if I want to blend in and smell acceptable while running errands. I like the smell, it’s masculine and playful. If you come across a cheap bottle: just try it, and if you don’t like it: pass it on to one of your friends or nephews.

Powerful, fresh and masculine. Dries down nicely, the lavender comes out but not to strong. Just right. It reminds me of M.Kors Extreme Blue but has a sweeter dry down, whereas the Extreme Blue stays with citrus. Grabbed this at Burlington for $20, not disappointed at all. This one's going to get some use when it warms up.

Nice basic scent to carry for a quick freshening, I keep a little one in my gym bag that caps a session and swim nicely. I find the tones all agreeable, and can be confident I smell alright. It's no masterpiece, but it's nice enough for regular use and a fair price to have some on you most of the time. 3.5/5

Classier and overall much better than Nautica Voyage. It's fresh, aquatic and a little green. Perfect for summer. The epitome of sea in a bottle is Tommy Bahama St Bart's but this is not that. This is refined and complex enough to wear out on the town after being at the beach all day. Great stuff.

Quite impressed by this, inexpensive and fairly durable. The opening is wonderfully fresh and citrus, a smooth grapefruit, not harsh or sharp. In the drydown I get the bamboo, which is almost creamy. Lovely for Summer, this is a cracking fragrance.

A very fun fragrance that's good for going out in the sunny weather. Smelling woody, citrusy, and overall just very fresh, I really do like Hollister Wave. I would definitely recommend this perfume, especially when it only costs about 30 euros.

I preferred MB stargazer over this one for a long time, but as of recently, I've switched sides. This has more depth and I think this may have gotten better as it sat in my dark dresser drawer for a while. Just a solid fragrance overall.

Overall this smells like 7-up tastes, but I also pick up some lavender and wood mixed in. I would characterize this scent as aquatic yet earthy. It doesn't last very long unfortunately, otherwise it's quite nice.

It will not blow you away, but this is actually a very good summer scent. Really crowd pleasing. Has some "Invictus Acqua", "Rasasi Hawas" and "Nautica Voyage" in it. You can't go wrong with this one. 7/10.

This is my first perfume I ever got and got quite a lot of compliments back then. Its a easy smell to wear if its the gym the beach or just day to day you cant go wrong in de spring or summer.

Dark woody citrus scent, kinda smells like a warm orange... Excellent for the summer months Sillage and longevity are excellent for such a cheapy

Just a regular clean pour homme. Nice gym spray, but nothing special. Tiktok dropshippers love to hype this one up, but it is actually the least interesting in Hollister's Wave line funny enough. The citrus is pretty mute but the salt and musk come through. I appreciate the bamboo leaf note, it just does not do a whole lot here. Performance for this fragrance in general in average. Lasts about 4-5 hours, does not radiate past your skin very much. Honestly if you are thinking of getting this, get Free Wave instead. Or Wave 2. or Wave X. Or even anything in the canyon line. This is just almost boring. Longevity: 5/10 - Projection: 4/10 - Overall: 4.5/10

this is yet another scent that smells like an amalgamation of scents you smell as you're entering the mall or especially when nearing the macy's perfume dept. ... you get the citrus, lavender, and musk right away and lingers for a while ... this fragrance leans a lil feminine to me, this is what a bunch of young teenage girls would wear on a summer day at the mall ... it doesn't smell bad at all, but as a grown man, this cologne might be too young smelling and feminine ... i bought and wore it because i heard and read good reviews on the scent ... i'll wear it a few more times and update this review.

Well it's a synthetic but in kinda pleasing way. It's not an offense for other nostrils. Blue-ish frag but not blue all the way. More for teenagers imho. It was dirty cheap like 10€ for a bottle of this. Will use this as a local caffe bar scent or "to the grocery store" scent for summer vacation at Adriatic. Purchase again? Doubt it. It's a fire & forget scent.

i cant hate this fragrance no matter what as this started it all, a musky salty citrus based fragrance it got me some compliments and did the job.

La primera impresión de este perfume se siente muy básico como cuando te bañas y luego te echas un desodorante barato, el tono de bambú amaderado con cítrico y un poco de lavanda es poco original con respecto a otros perfumes para verano, con ese precio puedes aprovechar ofertas increíbles tanto como en rebajas de perfumes también como para una otra opción que podría ser asad la fata para invierno que es muy rica dura mucho tiempo y al principio se siente como un alcohol cualquiera pero luego cuando se pone picante la pimienta se enloquece, en conclusión este perfume no lo recomendaría además que con el precio puedes comprarte ropa perfumes tanto árabes como por ejemplo el hawas ice y no un perfume que parece colonia Y además que huele a desodorante barato con olor a mar y como limpio, este es mi opinión sobre el perfume además que yo he probado otros para verano que son más ricos que ese y son marcas extrañas que venden en el chino, me decepcionó este perfume.

Picked up blindly mainly because of bamboo note [ref being Starwalker, which I love. Just doesn't last] and hoping this would have same vibe. Sadly, it doesn't. Don't really pick up bamboo at all, It smells, slightly floral sweet. Kinda feminine if I'm being honest. After initial blast settles down, quickly dwindles down to a skin scent (need to be within ~2-3" to pick anything up). I wouldn't waste another $20 on any Hollister based off this purchase. Hope I can return it... Update - Burlingtons wouldn't take the return so I had them toss the bottle in the trash at the store. That's how much I disliked it

I had fairly good expectations blind buying this cologne as I own two other Hollister colognes that I thoroughly enjoy. Given the name and certain notes I figured this to be a safe cheap summer scent. Well just a heads up for anyone else thinking of blind buying this I could not have been more wrong. This entire fragrance is a complete mess from top notes to the bottom notes. The only pleasant thing about it was it virtually disappears not long after applying it so I didn’t have to smell the complete mess long. I own Hollister’s Festival Nite and Festival Vibe and they are very pleasant for the price but this Wave had no business being released.

This has never happened before, but first sniff on skin from a tester was really good. Like 9.5/10 level good. Salty airy sea breeze. Unique and amazing for a designer, I thought. 10 minutes later, an odd scent started to appear. Like something green and rotten in a disturbing way. It became stronger an stronger, until I literally gagged and felt physically ill. A fragrance has never made me feel sick before. A dirty toilet growing mold and this fragrance after the opening are equally repulsive to my nose. No clue why.

On a whim, I just tried Hollister Wave. People are always hyping it up—“underrated,” “smells great,” yadda yadda. My humble opinion? It’s horrific. The type of scent that makes me want to shower with steel wool. I wish you could see my face right now—I look like someone just handed me sour milk on a hot day. I haven’t smelled Joop! in years, but this took me right back. Either way, sorry if I’m offending anyone’s favorite, but to my nose this is straight-up ass in a bottle. Sorry I had to say that.

This smells like a very cheap deodorant. Rubish & complete waste of money, even at this price point.

Imagine seagulls, cotton candy stand by the pier and the whiff drifts to you, early evening foamcrest, a bonfire by the shore. Murmurs rise from a group of beautiful people beneath a string of battery powered LED lights they brought from home, glowing at the start of dusk. You want the euphoria to last forever but the evening autumn breeze carrying the orchard’s air gives a dusk chill. Jasmine and cardamom. Imagine a sweet unisex inclined American interpretation of La Nuit with Paradise Garden. If you want everyone to chase you saying you smell good wear this. I wasn’t expecting much from another heterosexual blue surfer boy fragrance but this one took me by surprise. I get an opening of strong cardamom and cotton candy, very reminiscent of a sweet YSL La Nuit. Cardamom as a top note, a soft touch of coconut that is totally underwhelming in a good way and not shampooish or lotion-like, white sugar which makes it trendy sweet and separates it from Y2K blue aquatic frags, and a bowl of fruit-flavored candy. I don’t know why cardamom isn’t listed. This is beautifullll. It’s quite cheap and doesn’t radiate too far and being so sheer and pleasant, you can spray heavily. I’d market it in a bright yellowish juice, not bright blue at all, and call it “Rebellion Surf” or “Pacific Magnetism” because Wave sounds a bit simplistic for what this offers. It DOES have that classic Hollister DNA that feels like olives and honey in the background. I think the notes listed are a joke. But not taking the listing seriously is part of Hollister’s charm. They’re an American youth living for the moment. Personally though NOT a fan of the sweet trend, the sugar and candies along with the cardamom opening here blend euphorically. If you want everyone to chase you and say wow you smell good! but at the same time you don’t wanna smell like everyone else, that’s the go-to. I went on a wild unisex freshies spree this summer: Chez Bond, Givenchy Insensé Ultramarine, Pacific Rock Moss, Benetton Cold, JPG Paradise Garden. This is by far the most euphoric exquisite fine well-blended and relevant one. It’s close to Paradise Garden but believe it or not I think it’s a better quality. This is the Paradise Garden in the California way. It will go under the radar worldwide because Hollister are an underrated brand. The only thing in this frag I disagree with is the blue color and simplic bottle. The bottle of Free Wave or Wave 2 would fit this way better. Don't let the barbershop design fool you! It's a sweet one rather than aquatic. I want it in a bright yellow juice carrying the name “Cygnus” and being heavily marketed in Europe. It’s not gonna happen but that’s why we have Fragrantica.com for. 🐦🐦🍭🌸🌊🏄🍏🥥✈️🌊🐦🍬🍭

My new bottle is a shocking synth bomb. I was morbidly curious enough to buy it, because I’m a sucker for the “eau de stade” genre. Cool Water (OG) is elegance in comparison. Wave hasn’t really settled down with some oxygen in the bottle. That’s not a criticism. Hollister clearly wanted an impact on the level of 2002 Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch. Wave is young, sporty, and intensely aromatic to the point of impudence. Right now, it takes several hours on skin for the high-pitched blast to calm down enough to show that all the razzmatazz radiates on a comforting barbershop base. Application tip: wear it low on the body. That reins in the intensity for everyone else and actually increases my enjoyment. This trick turns Wave from “blaring stadium PA” into “my personal locker-room halo.”

Opening is not great at all, but once you get into drydown it's very similar to Montblanc Starwalker. The "Bamboo + Exotic Citrus" is the DNA link. Hollister Wave opens with Bamboo Leaf and Yuzu (Japanese Grapefruit). Montblanc Starwalker opens with Bamboo and Bergamot/Mandarin. Both fragrances use bamboo to create a "green, airy" freshness that is very different from the typical "lemon/blue water" smell found in most men's colognes. It's subtle, you cannot overspray. This is an under $20 bottle for 100ml that smells sufficiently different from the crowd, not cheap or trendy, work safe, and smells nice - dumb reach easy winner of any occasion.

Ok, maybe I'll write a proper review later but please, for the love of all that is holy, scroll back up and take a look at the "People who like this also like" carousel! It's basically a Who's-who of every top designer! Really? So, if I like this I might also like Terre d'Hermes? Sauvage? Dylan Blue? Nautica Voyage? None of these have anything in common. You might also like the smell of fresh asphalt or burned hair! Or perhaps you're a fan of The jizzy tinge of Bradford Pear! Listen, I'm not saying really anything about this scent but that suggestion list has to be changed! Do better.

At this point I feel almost ridiculous for submitting a review when there are so many experts letting us all know what trash this is Except it isn't, as far as fragrances go this is decent and the price is a deal for men to wear in the summer. And I say men because boys couldn't not pull this off with the cypress and neroli, it is as mature as anything Hollister could hope to be. It's not a high dollar fragrance but performs well for the office and casual day wear. Not evening preferable but certainly not out of the question depending on the setting and climate. Buy it or don't.
