Tadzio

I longed to find a fragrance to transport me to the beautiful city of Venice, my favorite city on Earth and I managed to find a fragrance that definitely takes me there... The city of Venice has always fascinated me, long before I ever set foot on it. I will never forget the moment I stepped out of the train station and caught the first glimpse of Venice and stared in amazement at its beauty. I have so far been to Venice six times and If I had to live there I would do so at the drop of a hat. No other city has yet managed to enchant me as much as Venice has. A magical place with more than 100 islands to explore. The fragrance TADZIO by the house of Homo-Elegans is inspired by the famous Italian director Luchino Visconti’s film Death in Venice which is based on the book by the German writer Thomas Mann. The perfumer Michele Marin has in my opinion managed to create not only an inspiration from the film but so much more. If you have ever walked on the beautiful islands of Sant’Erasmo, Torcello, Murano and Burano or just sat on the sand staring at the sea on the Venetian Lido you will understand even more how beautiful and deep the fragrance TADZIO is. TADZIO feels like a walk in the warm spring sun on the island of Torcello, as you step inside a place where Ernest Hemingway stayed while writing "Across the River and into the Trees' It is the smell of the sun on your skin and the smell of the citrus trees in the garden where you are sipping a Spritz cocktail. It is the quiet and serene walk on the island of Sant'Erasmo filled with the fresh air from all the vegetation that surrounds you until you reach the end of the island and smell the air of the sea. The smell of Opoponax (sweet myrrh) instantly reminds you of the many churches in Venice as well as the smells that surround the Venetian Arsenal. The smell of the ropes that tie the many gondolas and the sea water dried on them create an atmosphere that seems to take you centuries back in time. It is the smell of Venice's enigmatic canals and passages that glow during the day yet still mesmerize even during the night. It is also the smell of a bouquet of immortelle flowers from the tiny flower shop that stands in the corner blooming with smell and colors. TADZIO is all this and more. It’s a truly passionate fragrance that I have never ever encountered before until now. Until I visit again Tadzio will serve me well as a beautiful alternative to transport me in the heart of Bella Venezia.

Finally decided to pull the trigger on this beauty, after re-discovering a sample in my drawer. This is sheer poetry to me, spring like, young and fresh. Both fragrances from Homoelegans are really true to their inspirational backgrounds and feel very coherent as a concept. To me this turned out to be a scent I needed time to warm to, one that stayed in my memory until it finally clicked when re-applying my sample. Named after and inspired by Tadzio, the young boy, object of affection of the elderly composer in Visconti's beautiful movie Death in Venice, the fragrance conveys a feeling of lost youth, summers gone and love for the sea. In fact I would love it if Homoelegans would create Tadzio's counterpart; the aged artist who longs for youth, vitality and beauty. As with Quality of Flesh Tadzio tells a story, it's niche perfumery on a sublime level. Tadzio will probably be among my favorite spring fragrances this year. I get immortelle, cucumber and sea notes, and the scent stays for a long time, sillage is moderate. I look forward to HE's third scent which I have pre-ordered already, it will be released at Esxence in Milan this week, and I will be there!!!

Yhis is the second homoelegans perfume i try after paloma y raíces and both share a similar resinous, smoky and balsámic background. The differences is that this one, tadzio, is much fresher and aquatic. The opening is very nice and different yo other aquatic perfumes with the mix of Cucumber and immortelle. The dry down is more resinous. The longevity is high while the projection is just moderate. Nice for warm weather for a daily use. It is an easywearing fragance. This is the fourth Homoelegans fragrance I’m trying out and this is the most modest one. I smell melon, cocoa and something watery. Ah! I read I should have smelled cucumber. That probably explains the melon and the watery stuff. Do I smell something citruslike as well? Tadzio to me is taking a dive in the pool on a summer's day. I surface again and take in the summer air. Needless to say: I love this scent.

A fresh and young scent, a bit salty and intriguing. It is interesting,very versatile and perfectly unisex. The oceanic notes are immediately felt, give the scent that marine and salty touch sweetened even by cucumber and orange. I like it, it's a sensitive and evocative fragrance. Sillage: 7./10 Longevity: 8./10 Scent: 8./10 Overall: 8./10
