Iris des Champs

Out of the blue, I decided to spray this on today. I'm giving away some of my rarely used fragrances, ones I either dislike or am ambivalent about. The fragrance did nothing for me when I blind bought it a couple years ago. It literally smelled like paper to me and not much else, but the bottle and packaging are so pretty I couldn't bear to part with it. At the time, I was a relative novice to the many facets of this beautiful note. I already had a few iris scents in my collection, including the ubiquitous Prada Infusion d'Iris, but I wanted more and began purchasing several other frags centering around the note. This challenged me. Now I don't know if it's a matter of having plenty of time to settle, if my nose has become more refined, or, quite likely, the fact that I no longer smoke that made the difference, but today I am completely smitten! I actually think this performs really well in cool weather. The projection is much better, and I suspect the longevity has improved as well. But most importantly, I no longer experience this as a flat, unappealing soliflore, but as a more complex, sophisticated multi layered perfume. The iris is constant, displaying it's many aspects - rooty, papery, carroty, powdery, violety, and occasionally there is a hairspray effect which I just learned is indeed a characteristic of iris. I also get hits of lily of the valley, some pink pepper adding some spice and rosiness, and sandalwood. I don't specifically smell the musk, but I suspect it cleans things up a bit. It is NOT an animalic musk at all. I can't stop sniffing my wrist, though I really don't need to, as it seems to float around me. Iris des Champs went from an at best ambivalent fragrance for me to a love in a single day - plus a couple of years. This is the art of old school French perfumery and I am so happy to have rediscover it.

FULL BOTTLE WORTHY. Continuing my way through my collection of iris samples. I must have smelled a dozen or more - but this one’s got me delighted and excited. It has become my #1 iris frag. League-of-its-own unique. Characteristically iris, yes: it’s powdery, and lipsticky - BUT MAN is it a match made in heaven here with the lily of the valley. I get those two notes most prominently on my skin. To then take such a genius pairing and top it with ylang ylang, pear, vanilla, and sandalwood was some divine intervention. This is sheer magnificence. Interesting and addicting. Multifaceted, ever-evolving. Voluptuous and warm, yet peppy and bright. Perfectly powdery, soft, creamy, and a hint woody. There’s a tart, musky, clean that’s remiscent of Narcisco Rodriguez For Her. Smells different on clothes than skin, and I enjoy the combination of the two. Iris des Champs is so sublime. I was looking for an "old" scent that I can wear everyday and Iris des Champs Houbigant is just the right one for me. It is a very complex scent with no overpoweringly predominant notes, but everything here is well blended, it makes me feel vintagely elegant yet youthful at the same time. The price point was also within my budget range, hence IdC is one of my all-time favorite scents because it's so beautifully balanced and pleasant. I love the way it starts out with the zesty bergamot, mouth watering pear and hypnotic mugue, which all associate so cleverly with following mid notes of tuberose, iris and jasmine, the scent that just gets better as the day goes on with a subtle touch of rose which comnects all the adjacent elements so well together, and the final spicey hint of pink pepper makes it all invigorating and vivid. As someone who has been collecting perfume for over 10 years, I can tell you that this is one that you should definitely have in your private collection.

One word that encapsulates this fragrance is "shy". The scent itself is delicate and feminine and it reveals itself to you very slowly with the dry down. The opening is very papery and faint and as the fragrance warms on the skin, it really blooms. I didn't get to the full experience of this perfume until about the 45 minute mark when it finally becomes rich and nuanced. It's like a flower that blooms only in perfect conditions. I urge anyone who gets their nose on this that testing on your skin is an absolute must and holding off on your verdict until you give the fragrance a good hour to bloom; Then you will know the beauty of Iris des Champs. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 7/10 (with liberal application and perhaps some ambroxan or iso e super to support the projection.)

Subtly green with a clean musk, an interesting take on iris. Husband walked into the room I sprayed and went “wow, that’s strong!”, which surprised me because I thought this perfume wasn’t projecting. So go light on the trigger. Dry down brings a smooth vanilla into play, which was quite surprising. The mix of different notes on paper doesn’t look possible: pear, Jasmine and a amber accord are somewhere in the composition, but the notes don’t stand out. I think that’s a sign that this is blended well. I love iris in perfumes, and this is similar to Infusion d’iris (the original formula, a favorite) but it’s significantly different: Prada’s iris is more bright and sunny, Houbigant’s is more retro but not in a powdery way. Timeless is a better descriptor. I really like it.

This fragance is elegant, subtle and classic. I cannfeel the iris overall with a high presence of musk and muget. The dry down is very soapy. It remember me a lot to other perfumes like infusión diris by Prada, but iris des champs makes me think more of the country vibe. The performance is not bad but is very moderate, even soft; while the quality of the ingredients goes Accord with other houbigants and is very high. I think is a oerfect perfume for a daily use, maybe for work, when Simeone doesnt want to have lot if attention on himaelf. If you are seeking an Iris/Orris dominant fragrance, cool and root-y, look elsewhere. But if you desire a truly beautiful mixed floral bouquet with a very nice Iris note, and a touch of fruit... do try Iris Des Champs. This is quite a feminine scent to me. I get a good bit of sweet Ylang-Ylang and Pear, but nothing 'sugary'. There is some nice wood (Sandalwood) to keep it grounded. I think Iris Des Champs can be worn in any season. It is not a casual scent, way too pretty, and I see it best worn with a charming dress and heels. It really doesn't remind me of any other scent. Unique and just darn smells great!

Creamy Iris This perfume is so fragile and noble. For me it's the iris flower with its leaves and the morning dew. The iris was really highlighted in this perfume, we smelled the flower, the leaves and the root. At the beginning we have a green iris which will metamorphose little by little to become a milky, creamy and very cocooning iris. It is delicate but with character at the same time. Be careful not to add too much perfume because despite its inocence it is a perfume that lasts a long time.

Unlike many iris scents that come across as leaden and melancholy, Iris des Champs radiates warmth, light and joy. I wear this day or night year round for my ultimate iris fix. The smell is so comforting, a great heaping dose of orris mixed with plush musk and light floral notes, most notably Lily of the Valley. The dry down is spectacular as the iris begins to meld with a warm sandalwood that lingers on the skin for hours. The closest I have to a signature scent. This is a love.

Utter magic. Technicolor blues and greens. This is the kind of fragrance that I would wear on a forest walk, as it would actually complement the woods in a rare manner. It is austere, almost monastic, not merely a fragrance for vanity and compliments. Using both orris butter and orris absolute, the iris note is supple, round, and nuanced. This is not merely a make up bag iris; it is in my humble opinion, the apotheosis of nature encapsulated. Without hesitation, unisex. A+.

Such a gorgeous and special fragrance. The presentation is so beautiful, you expect a lot and Iris des Champs does not disappoint. Chemistry is different as are noses but I get a LOT of rooty iris. There is clearly lily of the valley which can sometimes make a me run in the other direction but not here, it's beautiful. A very regal fragrance fit for a queen or princess. Ladylike....very prim and proper but not too cold and stuffy. Charming, magical beauty.

Feminine, elegant, well-layered, noble, "old money" vibe. -Feathery fluffy pleasant musk (which I`m usually not a fan of) -Feminine light lily-of the-valley and ylang-ylang -Subtle creamy orris root -Faint woody and peppery notes -Clean soapy vibe Everything about it is "light", but together these notes are making up a beautiful symphony. Powdery, musky, floral, elegant, very feminine.

What a pleasant surprise! This immediately transported me to what I imagine late 1880s would have been - other than this fragrance, only Jicky can do that! There is something authentic about it, belonging to an era when scents were part of a daily routine rather than an identity statement. I admit I bought it because of the bottle but now I'm in love. I hope Houbigant keeps making it.

Simply put, this is a gorgeous, powdery iris. There's enough greenery to keep it interesting and not too sweet. The longevity is good - at least 8 hours on me. Sillage is moderate, even with one spritz. I can see this being a sillage monster with more than one spray. Definitely one of my new faves.

Something between Dia by Amouage and Oxygene by Lanvin on the dry down . Beautiful ,inoffensive ,aromatic and so very feminin and sophisticated. Great longevity, not so much sillage Gem

My favourite iris fragrance, does go in the slightly makeup direction. Beautiful from the start till the drydown. Very much signature scent worthy can wear all year.

my iris des champs just arrived this morning direct from houbigant paris, and i am one happy soul ! iris des champs is gorgeous - my new fave !

Houbigant are never less than high-class; so as expected, this is a haute (but not haughty), nuanced, deftly-handled feminine floral which never gets blowsy enough to alienate. Its first delicate blush of authentic orris-purple even made me hope (yet again) for that impossible unicorn of an affordable, usable Iris Silver Mist substitute - but no, this one is not that creature - though still beautiful on its own terms. Soon swerves, as the name implies, in another direction entirely, away from the grey-gloomy earthy-rooty-carroty iris melancholia area I love, and into a far brighter, sunnier, dewier meadow-space with other flowers joining the chorus. Gorgeously fresh and never too sweet; yet for my nose, far nearer to the colder, 'wet iris' spring-to-summer feel of Hermes Hiris or Iris Ukiyoe than anywhere else, and with nothing of the thick swaddling mist of real heavy orris powder/butter that I crave. Thank goodness, though, no violets, and even that prim little missy lily-of-the-valley stays discreet; iris is still indeed the main player. Pretty sheer and delicate, with an airy light sillage and no bombastic lasting power. But absolutely reasonably priced for its quality, and definitely worth a try for any iris-hunter. Didn't quite make the cut for me, because the miserable cold and wet of the place I live don't let this one shine to its fullest; but if you can count on sundress weather and love to smell clean, classy and upscale, this may be the beauty you seek.

I have amassed a collection of samples as part of my quest to find the perfect iris scent, Iris des Champs being one. It is only the second Houbigant scent I've tried, after the much more well-known Quelques Fleurs, but both are underwhelming in my opinion. IdC is not the iris-dominant scent I expected - instead it is an inoffensive, unmemorable soapy floral with a musky base. IdC has a lightweight, ozonic fruity opening. Citrus adds brightness from initial spray, but pear is most prominent in my opinion. However, it is quite synthetic, with a grey, musky undertone. Lily-of-the-valley follows, soapy and cleanly musky. As it develops, the iris slowly emerges, subtle but nicely powdery. Given the name, I expected it to be the dominant note, and this is not the case - it subsides fairly quickly. Ylang ylang takes over, its sweet smoothness melding with the vanilla in the base. Dry woods ground things in the base, but it remains lightweight and soapy, with the dry ozonic musky texture remaining. It fades to a musky skin scent, sheer and dry until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a feminine-leaning spring/summer scent for daytime. A soft, soapy/musky floral scent, IdC is very difficult from the scent I expected, but I am surprised by how much I liked it anyway, despite it not being typically my thing. 3/5.

Really disappointed in the performance. And I say that because I liked the scent and I wanted it to have more projection and last longer. Sigh. So, this is a different kind of floral than the other's I've tried, even those with similar notes. It's pretty and gentle. There's a slightly perfume-y smell to it, which I usually dislike, but in this, it's actually not bothersome. Okay, and actually, there's a quality to the LOTV that turns into cat pee a bit. (Does anybody else get this with the newer LOTVs?) Overall, I liked the first half hour, but then it softened into a sort of generic gentle musk. So, then I tried over applying - like WAY too many sprays, and when I did that I got amber, and the amber was quite nice. But seriously. How many sprays do you do before you get terrified that you've just gone nose blind and people can smell you a mile away? Overall, this scent is kind of frustrating for me because there are so many things I like about it, but I feel like it could have been spectacular, and instead it just falls short in pretty much every category. Hmph.

i went through 5 mL of this in 3 days, which is crazy for me bc i own a lot and i am a light wearer (2-3 sprays). my first impression was an iris+violet-scented thick body/face cream that's white and dense, now i don't know if there's actually something in this that reminds me of a cream scent or if the lotions i have used in the past contained iris and i'm being fooled. after a few days, i started picking up on this ultra clean white musk, that's kind of powdery soapy in nature, but extremely uplifting and classic, like chanel N°5 with artistic floral touches in the background. yes, this is overall a very classy scent with vintage vibes from 90s. i personally don't pick up on the vanilla, woods, or the specific flowers/fruits used, but there's a watery floral/fruity background. decent lasting power, and good projection for a clean scent that this is.

Just bought a FB of this. It was essentially between this and Quelque Fleurs Jardin Secret. The reason Iris des Champ won me over was because I was a little partial to iris. The opening is a peppery blast which gradually makes way for the iris to surface half an hour later. Don’t get much ylang ylang or jasmine mind you. It’s lovely as an everyday casual scent for me. Dry down is gorgeous as well when the iris bids farewell and I am left with a lovely bit of woody amber and only a touch of sweet vanilla. However this is overall not too sweet a scent to me which is why I chose this instead of Jardin Secret, which dries down leaving a lovely sweet musky trail (love it as well). I may consider Jardin perhaps later as well. Both gorgeous.

This is a fragrance of iris roots, no doubt. What surprises me is that this has a soapy pear background. I know iris scents have a clean smell about them. What I mean is that there is a smell of pear scented soap to it. I actually like it. I smell the lily of the valley and other flowers. It does not come off as sweet, even with the fruit note there. The ylang ylang and rose notes hover in the background. I really like this. It is different from any other fragrance I have smelled. A refreshing change in an iris scent. Will go great in the spring/summer months.

A very pleasant surprise. I didn’t know what to expect, having read about the soapiness of the scent. And soapy it is - for about five minutes, and then quite a nice, reassuringly clean (rather than harsh) soap. And then it unfolds, from woody cool to warm, intriguing, elegant sweetness that is endlessly comfortable. That heart has real duration on me. This perfume is like a classic tweed suit with an understated, elegant cut and a jewel-coloured, 100% silk crepe-backed satin lining that only you and your loved ones ever get to know about.

this starts with a papery and peppery iris-it is not sweet or powdery at all to begin with. after a couple minutes i get the lily of the valley which sweetens things up a bit, then later it gets quite woody, then an hour or more later it has become a soft powdery iris with woody and peppery nuances, along with rose and lily and a bit of greenness. it has many facets and i seem to notice different facets each time i smell my wrist.

This is an absolutely feminine powdery iris. I ordered samples from Houbigant and unfortunately I did not like Quelques Fleurs Original, Royal, Garden Secret. I liked the least Orangers en Fleurs (I believe nutmeg gives rancid note). Iris de Champs is fresh, but dry, like a real powder. It is also very musky, but not as intense as Chanel 1957. I never had powdery scents. I will consider buying it.

The initial spray hits me with a strong scent of pencil shavings. As it settles, it becomes dry, powdery, green, and cold, with no detectable sweetness. If you're looking for a slightly sweetened version but still true to the elegance of iris, Boucheron Iris de Syracuse does an excellent job with its candied iris scent—it’s sweet but still elegant and never ventures into gourmand territory.

The soap is too strong in this one. It's a like, but not a love. There's something a bit harsh and slightly scratchy about it. It's a clean iris, very musky, and projection is on the stronger side. I think it would be better suited for a man actually. The bottle and presentation are beautiful. I never get tired of looking at it. Overall a 7/10. I don't reach for it very often.

Lovely, a fresh iris, almost bracing. This does not have huge sillage or good longevity based on the first time I wore it, but I will give it another shot in the next few days and report back. If you’re having a similar experience, might be worth a revisit before abandonment.

Just hovering on nice for me, though I realize how this might be a love for many. It is a very gentle and non-offensive iris. Powdery soap. Chiffon bow wrapped napkins in the ladies' room. I like it but couldn't see myself loving it.

Smells exactly the way you would expect upon seeing the notes. It is sophisticated, traditional and ladylike. If the word decorum had a scent, it would be this.

It’s a great natural I reset. It smells very nice. No regrets!

7/10- Delicate Iris bouquet. I smell fizzy and crunchy pear opening with lots of green facets that we get from an Iris bouquet. The fizziness airs out to smooth and creamy lily of the valley and vanilla. Musk binds the scent together. Powdery scents often get cloying on my skin but this one is very gentle, very airy. I get no Iris when sniffing up close on the skin but taking a step back, I smell beautiful whiffs of iris in the sillage. Projection: Nil Sillage: Soft Longevity: Acceptable 6hrs, pushes to an 8. Gender: Unisex IMO, after all, I wish I get an aftershave of this scent.

I have a decant of this and it is alright. The initial spray is very citrusy and gives off a cleaning product type smell. That quickly goes away to reveal an Iris that is soapy and very light, a skin scent is what this is. It smells like clean skin after a shower. The Iris doesnt stay long and is replaced with vanilla and vetiver which last a little longer. Nice but too simple for my taste, doesnt last to long on my skin though that could be because of the heat of summer, it might do better in the cold.

I can give this bottle for swap or sell it, I got 100 ml, 3.4 fl oz for $200 at Neiman Marcus in April, have a receipt. Used like 2 times. As for a scent, it’s ridiculous, but reminds me of Moscow subway, which I love it, it’s some chemicals they use to soak the wood tracks. It’s a wet, slightly sticky scent, very powerful and powdery, definitely lots of iris, but it’s too floral and feminine. Stays on for quite a while, I like it, but I can’t wear it.

Its a beautiful pretty fresh scent. Though my skin pulls a lot of citrus and I am quite surprised it’s not mentioned by anyone else (official sample vial). Too my nose its mainly citrusy Iris. More Iris in air, more citrus closer to skin. But a very wearable ‘I smell clean and pretty’ smell. Initially wasn’t too impressed but slowly growing to love this. Maybe will go for a full bottle as it’s a no brainer summer fresh pretty scent.

Soapy floral with a creamy, musky, ambery dry down. The floral is pretty ambiguous and would just categorize it is "floral" and not white or rose or yellow. You mostly get the Irs/Violet here with a support of other floral materials probably something like cyclamen aldehydes or rosy materials like citronellol and PEA. Not bad, but kind of generic for my taste.

On my skin IdC opens with damp greenery, not quite the scent of cut grass, more the smell on your hands after cutting flowers in the garden; chlorophyll that is bruised rather than sharp,, wet rather than crisp, and the opening accord has quite a bit of pepper (black pepper to my nose, rather than the rose scent of pink pepper). Wood is present, again, quite soft and damp. The overall feel is of a muggy morning, lacking freshness. It is a natural scent, but I wasn't sure that I found it pleasant. Throughout this phase I continued to sniff my wrists, intrigued, although uncertain. In the heart, the white musk is forward, and the scent is distinctly soapy. Drier than the opening, with just a touch of the LoV, perhaps a hint of rose? And ylang ylang is sweetly present. While more pleasant than the opening accord, this phase is far less interesting, and bears a striking resemblance to Dove soap. The dry down brings forth the jasmine and rose. The scent has continued to lighten in tone. There is an undercurrent that I can only describe as foggy purple- not deep, not dark, a midtone that is undefined, but quite "perfumey". I don't detect any orris root (iris butter), which is one of my favorite notes. To me, this smells like an artificial, floral, iris equivalent. Given the price per flacon I find this very disappointing. Vanilla is apparent in this stage, lightly present. White musk is still front and center. I find IdC to be a safe work wear scent, good longevity, demure but noticeable sillage. Because of the strong soapy scent, this is definitely unisex. I obtained 3 sample vials, and will not purchase a full bottle. I doubt that I will use all 3 samples. I can see applying it again to experience the opening accord, or to freshen up in an emergency. But overall this scent lacks personality. I expected more from Houbigant, particularly at these prices! Please do not blind buy the FB. TEST first!

SirCharles is right: The quality of Houbigant is superb! I wanted to love Iris, the loveliest of Houbigant's bottles with the most gorgeous art nouveau iris depicted on the front. The opening of this fragrance is MAGIC... Unfortunately, Iris did not love me. The reaction with my skin was foul. In stead of pink pepper, I get a strong cumin scent that simply ruins the fragrance for me. I had to return it. Do not let my personal experience dissuade you from trying this and other Houbigant fragrances. This house knows how to make fine perfumery... They could really teach many others something about quality.

I do notice the muguet note (lotv) which makes the interpretation come off soapy. I get no vanilla as someone stated. It's floral, subtly woody, slightly spicy (whether that's from the rose or the pepper I don't know) and softly sweet. I don't care for the soapiness of it.

I recently went on an iris search, and Houbigant's Iris des Champs was among the scents I tried. I adore Acqua di Parma's Iris Nobile and was hoping to discover whether I would similarly love other iris formulations. Unfortunately, while I love Orangers en Fleurs by Houbigant, I deeply dislike their take on iris. There are some interesting notes for the first five or so minutes, but this quickly dries down to a soapy (yet with something unclean underneath it) mess for me. For the record, I don't necessarily mind soapy scents, but this one is like someone tried to wash off some enduring stink but succeeded only in covering it up. I really, really dislike this.

As an iris lover I was eager to try this perfume given the huge number of positive reviews and how I was disappointed!! This perfume smells like naphtalene or mothballs to me. I have skin tried it many times but its a linear mothball smell from the initial spray till the drydown! I read all the reviews to check whether any one experienced the same smell as me but all the reviews describe it as powdery, fluffy and floral which is very strange!

Yesterday October 11th I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time with Michal Gizinski and Hilary Randal at the Houbigant launch at Neiman Marcus San Francisco of the gorgeous new scent Iris des Champ. The presentation of the eau de perfume and the essential Parfum was beautifully arranged with Iris and the stunning bottles and boxes. The royal blue and yellow are the colors and on the inside of the wonderful box and along the inside purple and yellow irises are the theme of the design. I did get to sample the eau de perfume at the San Francisco Perfume Salon dinner last week and it was wonderful to smell it again yesterday as Michal and Hilary took be through the journey of the Iris. Iris is one of the most expensive ingredients in perfume because it is so difficult to extract the scent from the flower. Well in truth the fragrance is extracted from the root of the flower called rhizomes, not the flower itself. At harvesting there is barely any scent at all from the rhizomes. They are carefully unearthed cleaned and cut by hand, then dried in the sun. After this first drying process they are placed in cloth bags for further drying and aging. This stage takes three years after which they are distilled into a butter like form called beurre d’iris. Only then does the wonderful note of Iris emerge to enchant and captivate the nose. The entire process takes up to 5 years to complete from planting to the creation of the beurre. Now we move on to the creation of the perfume which in and of itself is a very time consuming process. Iris des Champ opens with a hint of bergamot, a light rose, accompanied by muted notes of lily of the valley that ring softly and lovely in the background as they are joined by a few shakes of pink pepper. This is all very brief and subtle like a flourish of muted French horns announcing the arrival of Le Roi Iris étincelant. The king Iris enters from the very beginning of the perfume and with his court of beauties in attendance, Jasmine and ylang ylang. He shines from a throne of sandalwood and amber, as he holds court over the skin in magisterial beauty. In the later part of his reign, the dry down is a beautiful blend of vanilla that creams the sandalwood and amber and mellows into a sleepy slumber on a woody bed laid over with a soft duvet of musk. Iris is a magnificent note that is often found in women’s perfumes but always to me gives them a cool austere masculine strength. And lately it has made an appearance in men’s fragrance such as Dior Homme. This note like the blue fire from the moon in “She” burns cold and does not consume but rather gives an immortal grandeur and life to a perfume. It is often called the powedery cool blonde of the perfume world when the note is included in a perfume of a feminine bent. In point of fact Hilary found in her encounter with Iris des Champs and scent image of the inside of Grace Kelly’s Hermes bag that she carried on the day she steamed into the harbor of Monaco to marry Prince Rainier. Yes I too see that, a hint of leather that one often gets from Iris. It gives this perfume strength and authority with out overpowering its beauty. Yes there is a powdery aspect to it but gentleman isn’t it time to embrace the powder. It is after all a staple of the barbershop experience. Iris des Champs, which translates to filed of iris is the perfect perfume for any woman of elegant sophistication who posses an air of grace and élan. Or any young lady who aspires to project those attributes. And for men? The baritone beauty of Johnny Hartman singing “Unforgettable” comes to mind when I smell this perfume and in that song I find one last image. Kelly Lord and Daniel Taggart are floating across a moonlit terrace in the South of France in an effortless foxtrot that leads to a kiss under the stars. In their search for the lost city of Mjal Eeyrys they found an unexpected match in each other. And in the iris blue morning while she sleeps, he finds her bottle of Iris des Champ and smiles. As he sprays it on his sunburned chest, he too becomes, unforgettable. I went from white Hawaiian florals like tuberose to becoming a straight up junky for iris. It was Glossier who helped me figure that out. Unfortunately Glossier’s new formula took a giant shit and ever since I’ve been on the hunt for a great replacement. I’ve been smelling any iris I could get my hands on. This one is very good. It smells like paper mache and reminds me of doing crafts as a child. I love this. The iris combined with Lilly of the valley is such a distinct floral scent that is so unique. Of course my bottle is the one with the blue label, not the yellow. The version with the yellow iris on the bottle is going to cost you over $600. I do not too much warmth, maybe a whisper of a soft vanilla... there is nothing gourmand that sticks out. What other notes that exist are only there to support the Lilly of the valley and iris. If you want a warmer iris scent then go for La Perla White Iris, Trussardi Aperitivo Milanese, or L’ange Noir. Someone below mentioned that this was not a “leaden and melancholy” iris. I agree. What sets this iris apart from all the other melancholy iris’s is that it lacks a spike of patchouli nor does it have a noticeably strong citrus at the beginning. Too many iris’s are ruined by an addition of patchouli. Houbigant is so clean, elegant... a scent made for a classy woman. She is the young gorgeous teacher you had in elementary school. If you are like me and you are searching for Glossier like iris scents... then it won’t hurt to have this in your collection regardless of the fact that it’s not a dupe. Nevermind Prada’s Infusion D’iris, as it was a HUGE disappointment for me. However Houbigant’s Iris is very long lasting and an iris lover should not pass this one up. I love to pair this with an amber oil (like nemats)

Iris of the Fields is a fragrance of lily of the valley and iris getting along in a verdant lush field and park where you take a leisurely stroll and have time to smell the flowers. The fragrance line Houbigant is notorious for it's flower power scents and they're Quelques Fleurs will always be their most popular and successful product. This one is a lovely iris so if you like iris as well as lily of the valley this will please you. The opening to this fragrance is both fruity fresh and peppery. A bergamot and lime scent begins the fragrance and then it quickly becomes spicy with pepper something like grass and tarragon, very evocative of a chypre. The lily of the valley begins to bloom as the fragrance enters it's middle note phase. Other florals appear and make cameos like jasmine and ylangylang. The fragrance is a green floral very pretty never powdery just more on the Diorissimo lily of the valley green scent kind of frag. It's clearly a fragrance that heralds the spring. I don 't detect any musk although everyone says this is musky towars the end to me it's mostly woodsy and sandalwood and amber. The real big note at the end is vanilla. A sweet vanilla that came out of nowhere. Gorgeous fragrance.

Really lovely subtle fragrance. Strong dry, dusty, woody iris note initially is balanced out during the dry down, but not overwhelmed, by sweetness and powdery musk. This is a skin scent on me for sure but I'm a cubicle worker and I prefer these types of scents for the office. I don't want sillage for days in every perfume I own. I think I might like this 2nd best out of the iris perfumes I've tried (over Prada Infusion d'Iris, Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle, and Van Cleef and Arpels Bois d'Iris). My favorite iris is still 1889 Moulin Rouge - there is just something extra special to me in that one which is a much more rubbery iris. Honestly, I generally prefer other florals over iris (jasmine, rose, neroli, etc.), however, this perfume is really growing on me and I think it could be a good year round sort of floral for me. It's really shining in the early spring weather right now - we're somewhere between winter and spring. P.S. I really like @SumoTigerCat review below. The outfit I'd pair with this fragrance is a professional "office" type of long sleeved, knee length, wrap dress in a muted color (maybe a purple/gray) and some patent nude pumps with delicate/subtle silver jewelry.

I have to mention that iris has become one of my favorite notes since I have dived into my fragrance collecting and this is an elegant combination of notes. Right off the bat I smell the almost cool woodiness of the roots, maybe with a bit of dirt left on them- it's very dry. I am surprised I don't smell the spiciness of the pink pepper, the floral notes of the rose and lily of the valley or the fruitiness of the pear, it's just dry root. In the heart the combination of the ylang-ylang and jasmine (which thankfully is not overpowering) give the iris a creaminess, it brings to mind the colors of the sky when nighttime is ending and the sun is just starting to come up, shades of blue and purple and gold-tone. the base to me is heaven, I get both the vanilla and sandalwood and the iris is sticking around to, it's not cloying or to sweet- possibly the wood keeps it from going in that direction. I current have a 10 ml travel spray of this fragrance, but I would not be surprised if at some point I add a full bottle of this to my collection- it is lovely and very wearable, if you like iris pick this up!

I’ve never felt anything this beautiful in a perfume before... in nature, countless times, yes. I couldn’t pull myself away from my wrist for a good half hour, and in the first few minutes I burst into tears :-))) The true scent of iris — stem, leaves, the entire field... morning dew, a spring breeze. Then more flowers begin to bloom; the only one I could clearly identify was lily of the valley, not because it stands out, it melts seamlessly into the whole. The iris remains present for a long time, dusty, creamy, and utterly real. This scent is real and yet ethereal, like the Prada irises, but in a different way. They are not similar, it is not what I mean. It follows a similar path to La Pausa, but with lily of the valley instead of violet — and with the whole field... so, so much more delicate. The drydown is a lipstick-like, balsamic powder that gradually becomes more woody. It builds beautifully, true niche level. I wish the opening could last forever... 🍃🌿🌬️

I think I have a love-hate relationship with this fragrance. On first sniff, it was love. It’s light, airy, clean and fresh, but has that powdery Iris note I was looking for. Like a lovely, expensive Iris-scented laundry detergent or body lotion, in a good way. The (tiny) scent bubble this creates is delicious, and I love it on paper or my clothes. On my skin, however, it pulls much sharper and warmer, more screechy. I guess most people wouldn’t stick their nose up against my skin to smell it, so it’s ok, but I wish the fragrance smelled the same way it does on skin as it does on my sweater. If I ever come across an inexpensive bottle of this somewhere, I’ll snap it up in a heartbeat to use as a linen spray. Breathing this scent in on my pillow at bedtime? Divine.

This is what I thought Hiris would be, after reading many Iris reviews. It really does have a good rooty iris opening that fades quickly as all the premium Irises do. It's quite enchanting, like Tinkerbell and Fairy Dust, scaled down, not oversized. I get jaded with huge perfumes quite frequently and I retreat to Iris based perfumes such as Pierre de Lune, Hiris, No 19 Poudre and Yardley Iris. There's a purity to this lovely fragrance that I find quite restorative, but I'm in the early days yet, so I will update it. Gorgeous bottle and the box alone is worth keeping. I will pick up on the nuances of this fragrance, of which there will be many, requiring concentration and a little serendipity.
