You & I (Will Die)

I know it’s supposed to be a melancholy fragrance, but there’s something quietly confident about it. Like knowing the end is inevitable, so enjoy life simply until it stops. This has background movement, not main character energy. You’re met in the first spray with a watery green melange- definitely vegetal but not (yet) earthy. It’s the not-sweet herbs drying out. When it starts moving down into the ground, earthy, truffled, and almost powdery, it’s akin to the contrast of dirty-clean hair vibe Decay of the Angel has. It’s startlingly alive. It’s in the dry down that it reminds of Bruno Fazzolari’s Lampblack, a just-slightly masculine blown out wisp of lamp smoke in a quiet jazz bar. Cade isn’t listed in the notes for You & I, but it’s here that maybe I make the association between all three fragrances I mentioned (as it’s in the other two). Maybe it’s the way vetiver and smoke are used that aligns this one with them. Throughout this downward and upward journey, it’s not overpowering. It’s got incredibly conservative sillage, so it won’t announce itself in a room before you do. It’s incredibly wearable but I wouldn’t call it a safe blind buy. Thoroughly enjoying it.
