Monochrome

A review of a retro chypre perfume in a modern sweaty embrace. This perfume opens somewhat cold, fresh, and citrusy at first. There is a very, very small dose of sharpness, but it quickly disappears. Green notes and citruses begin to play while vetiver, labdanum, and musk wait in the background for their turn. An interesting two-dimensional perfume that evokes nostalgia. A very clear introduction from the brand itself that we can expect something retro here, and it's true. However, it also has modern elements, so I would call this perfume a modern chypre. The cannabis is almost imperceptible here; what I get is wet vetiver, mild citruses later when they settle (I would say the acidity mellows), and this perfume transitions into a soft, fresh chypre dimension. A truly unisex perfume in every sense of the word. After an hour or two, when the perfume has rested on the skin for a while, we get the essence of the greenery through vetiver and musk. One association is true, and that’s the note of sweat, which can evoke such a real comparison, but it’s pleasant sweat. Yet another complexity in Mark Buxton's work, and this perfume definitely deserves a bit more spotlight. Solid.
