Should we reimagine Eden (Eaden) as a tropical locale closer to the equator than a locale nearer to the Middle East? The latter is assumed based upon what can be historically (and very dubiously) gleaned from the Torah and/or the Bible. Eliam Puente seems to think the tropical locale is preferable, and I would also prefer to think so. If I were to be suddenly brought to life upon an Earth barren of other human beings I would want it to be somewhere tropical, beautiful and full of fruit and life, as opposed to an oppressively dry desert-type area. And, no less because that would help make more tolerable the fact that I would be accompanied by a woman very ill-tempered and peevish due to her existence being owed to the OG omnipotent and omnipresent Patriarchy. Let’s share a mango, not a pomegranate, and sing our praises. Sharp aldehydes greet us like a blinding flash of light, and very briefly. There is no mandarin note I can detect per the pyramid, but there is plenty of creamy orange blossom and jasmine, with just a touch of neroli for a slight metallic edge. The whole of the opening and the heart is very jasmine forward with its honeyed, heady, white floral characteristics but that is as maybe; the lines between the jasmine and orange blossom are quite blurry. There is some banana-sweet-starchy ylang-ylang but no custard type note/texture as is typical of ylang-ylang, however, the powdery aspect of ylang-ylang is definitely present in the top notes, and is helping the sweet starchiness along. Puente very nearly achieves an abstract floral conception, but that is not the intention evidenced by a strong mango accord rushing to the scene as the top starts to cool down. A bit of an allspice impression appears further into the dry down, but the mango still holds strong. It continues in this vein to a sweet, fruity, amber skin scent focused on the mango. Not appropriate for a religious gathering or something of that nature - I’m guessing - but I would definitely want to wear this during the summer at a pool party. It might be a bit heavy for summer, but it would make a statement then, whilst being quite light for a fruity amber, breathable, fun, diffusive, and definitely powerful for the first half of its life. Eliam Puente is a very talented perfumer with a very keen nose for great materials. When you will be able to sample his wares, or even buy them and have some confidence as to what sort of state they will be in, is a whole other story. It seems to be as unpredictable as the next set of winning lottery numbers. But if you’re in the mood for a joyful, pretty, light weight, fruity amber that is summer fun in a bottle, this one is well worth your time.
