Chevaux d'Or

So...a couple of years ago, I bought Chevaux d’Or and ended up not liking it at all. I did get rid of it and did not try to give it a chance...😑 I even wrote a pretty harsh review which you can read below, but I am here now to say that I am gonna have to eat my words. I was wrong about Chevaux d’Or... Now, has my nose and what it perceives changed over the years? Yes, absolutely. Since that time, I have smelled many many many different sorts of perfumes. But what changed my mind about this particular one is the fact that I can now smell the sweetness underneath the somewhat sharpness of the florals (rose(s) & magnolia). The fruits are there but only on the surface and the beginning of Chevaux d’Or is still a bit of a challenge to my nose. However, after giving it a few minutes, this settles into the most magnificent red florals e v e r ! ! ! And the dry down is so lovely and sweet! I am quite taken by this beauty✨❤️🍓🌹✨ I found a full bottle for less than $100 usd and I am going to enjoy it to my heart’s content 😍

This smells NOTHING like the notes mentioned above (in the Fragrantica lineup), no strawberries or vanilla. It smells more like trampled roses and cheap hairspray (to my nose at least). This, I hate to say, is a complete disaster of a scent. Never mind the gorgeous bottle and exotic name. This scent is not a good blend. Like a hurried up concoction of roses, fruits and something fake or chemical that makes me ill. Needless to say I quickly got rid of it. I bought it directly from House of Sillage, and I have to mention that their customer service is abysmally inept, unfriendly and unhelpful. All in all, a terrible experience and a house I shall not waste my precious time with.

This is a very feminine, sexy, rose-inspired perfume. The rose here is not realistic like the one in Diptyque Eau, not fruity as much and not intense unlike Delina, and is not dark nor oudy. This rose is very simple, slightly synthetic, maybe a bit "wet" and a bit inspired by berries, thanks to the strawberry accord. It's a very nice, simple, forward perfume, without any notable uniqueness or novelty. I personally like it a lot, but I will not be repurchasing it.

Loving it best on the dry-down phase: a delish blend of fresh candied rose with creamy strawberry cake. A sweetness that feels light & soft, but also uplifting & refreshing. I tried Dior Holy Peony, Valentina Pink, Montale Rose Elixir, and Initio Atomic Rose. But none of them has a similar character to this. Still looking for a similar one to HoS Chevaux d’Or, but with a nicer price X'D

smells like strawberry jam! I couldn't stop sniffing my arm while wearing this fragrance. it is lovely and very long lasting fragrance. Love how it smells and the bottle :3

Beautiful fruity floral rose with soft hints of vanilla and tonka. LOVE!

I have quite a few rose fragrances and, to me, this is really similar to Byredo's Young Rose. They are different enough to warrant owning both once they settle in about 10 minutes later. If you like YR, I'd say this is a safe blind buy! Where YR has a tart, fizzy, effervescent lift, Chevaux d'Or is quite a bit more grounded. It has the signature tonka/vanilla base that HoS has in so many of their fragrances and it makes this so delightful! If you don't like the dewy, jammy roses, steer clear of this one. This is not a lipstick rose by any means! I was slightly disappointed, the tartness from the raspberry pretty much disappears almost immediately on my skin. The freshness at first makes it feel kind of summery but I'd call this one a cool weather wear. In a world of rose fragrances, this is beautifully blended. It lasts on my skin about 10 hours and the projection is pretty good too, not a powerhouse like Benevolence but not a skin scent like Cherry Garden.

This is my first review so bear with me. I bought the signature sample set and promptly smelled this fragrance. It smells like a day at the hair salon. I never know what product exudes this fragrance, but I plan to buy it at a steep discount. I want to extend that freshly cared for hair smell a few days after getting it done. I definitely smell roses, but not like Tom Ford Lost Cherry or KayAli Lovefest. I agree with other reviews that it smells synthetic, just like a hair product. With that being said, I am convinced they spelled the fragrance wrong. The literal translation is Golden Horse. Who wants to smell like a horse? If it had been spelled Cheveux d'or, that means Golden Hair. Since this fragrance smells like a hair salon, doesn't that make more sense? IJS.

Chevaux d'Or is lux sweetness and candied money. I think the bottle is supposed to be a jeweled cupcake? The first spritz is salt and strawberries. The second is raspberries and sugar. Then roses. All the roses. Tight buds, sharp and green, then full and sexy and come-hither, and finally sweet and blowsy and soft. Settles down with a sheer layer of vanilla and spicy sweet flowers over the roses. It lasts for a few hours, then fades into nutty powder. A spoiled princess perfume in the most perfect way.

This smells absolutely wonderful, but it fades way too fast for the price of the perfume. I received the first travel-sized atomizer in a signature collection box. I loved the scent, but I didn't want to pay for a full-sized cupcake. There was a fantastic sale on the website, so I purchased a set of the travel-sized sprays first. Then another, an finally a cupcake. It is really too expensive, but I love it and just refresh the scent when needed.

This is a very strong, green rose that lasts long on my skin. I don't get much of the fruitiness at all. I am having a strange like-dislike relationship with this one. Can't figure out how I feel. Perhaps, I have a bad scent memory/association. Will continue to wear & wait for my final verdict.

I'm really trying to like this scent but I'm struggling with it. It feels like some of these notes just don't mesh well together. The rose scent comes through strong and I don't feel it plays well with the fruit notes. The bottle is gorgeous but this is a blind buy I regret.

On me it's straight up rose, I don't get any of the other notes. Nice, pleasant scent if you like rose but ultimately nothing special and not worthy of that price tag.

I smell spiced rose. It’s not my favorite, and I love rose. I much prefer Coach’s wild rose or Nest’s Turkish Rose Perfume Oil. Those are modern rose scents, smell more authentic, and are less expensive. Chevaux d'Or smells a little bit like potpourri. I wish I got more berry jam or strawberry. But instead I just get sweet holiday spice / tonka mixed with rose, perhaps I have to let it oxidize more? This is a mature perfume, I could see an older woman enjoying this. An Australian YouTuber said her husband loved this on her and that it was a soft delicious fragrance. So I had high hopes. I guess it is a cozy fragrance, good for the colder seasons. The bottle is beautiful. Overall it’s a disappointment.

Sometimes I really don’t know if I’m smelling the same things as the reviews on this site. All I am getting is tart strawberries, weak sillage and a very juvenile vibe. Should have not listened to the YouTube influencers and some of these reviews and glad I only purchased the travel size. Is it bad? Absolutely not, just unimpressive to any one over the age of 20.

I mainly pick up on rose & tonka bean. Together, they give off a slight cherry vibe. Overall, the fragrance is more floral than fruity. It needs to be oversprayed to create a scent bubble. Not nearly as projecting as other cupcakes nor as sultry as the bottle would have you think. However, it's a pleasant & delicate scent for the 2 or 3 hours that it lasts.

On early spray, it’s like a spoonful of strawberry preserves and a rose petal simultaneously held up to your nose. As someone newer to the frag world, I think I now understand the term “jammy rose.” It’s pretty and bright, but not photorealistic. I think whether or not someone likes this one will ultimately come down to taste.

If you're into safe rose scents without a lot of character and have money to burn, this may be for you. Too synthetic smelling for my taste, but I can see a classy, mature woman rocking this at the opera or some other upscale evening event. Not blind buy or full bottle worthy to me.

I normally don't like strong florals but I love this perfume. For some reason this just works. Definitely look for sales, full price is a bit much.

The first spray the scent of pure rubbing alchol smell, after the second spray a powerful rubbing alchol smell. After 30 seconds you smell a rose scent. It reminds me of a cheap toilette with a rose scent that is used for the rinse cycle on the washing machine in the 1920's by the wealthy households. This is just a toilette with a rose scent and need to be sold for $20 because of the rose essential oils. Also, you will have to carry the bottle with you every hour to refresh the scent. Elizabeth Taylor Diamond and Rubies toilette is a better quality and longer lasting. One point is the bottle which is very pretty. Goes to show you"Don't judge a fragrance by the look of a bottle." This bottle needs to be sold in drug stores for $20 which will give the House of Sillage a profit, because a price tag of $360 is over charge by $340.
